Self-catering in Umhlanga is an inexpensive, budget-friendly means of travelling. Beautiful space where we may take long walks on the beach and we additionally accommodation in umhlanga rocks walked to nearby outlets. Day 43 – C U later

S and J woke up early this morning to celebrate their anniversary and mourn C’s departure. S donned his normal lobster swim trunks. Exasperated that S had worn the same swim trunks since we’d arrived in St Lucia, J asked him to wear his turquoise ones. Since today is our anniversary, S begrudgingly agreed. The lobster trunks will be back tomorrow.

Today was C’s last day with us before heading back to rainy old Scotland with a long layover in Gatwick. We are both very sad to see her go. S definitely shed a tear or two.

Sadly, our day at the pool was a washout… literally, as it pretty much rained as soon as C finished applying her sunscreen. C had a blueberry crêpe for breakfast while J toddled off to the gift shop to get gifts for our parents (t-shirts and a pack of rum balls for S’ dad). S is disgusted that our parents want gifts. They are obviously very materialistic and S, as a millennial woke, on a six-month around-the-world trip finds this very offensive. He thinks gracing our parents with his presence in Florida is sufficient.

Once the rain came, we headed to one of the umbrella-covered outdoor tables to get some pizza and wait out the rain. The manager was very friendly and told S he looked like he was having a good day. This may be because he decided to wear the New Year’s Eve black party beads with his turquoise swim trunks. After finishing our pizza and polishing off one more glass of sparkling wine waiting for the rain to abate, we agreed it wasn’t going to happen in the near term. We decided to head back to our room.

While C was getting cleaned up for her departure, J had to negotiate with the Sandals staff to get another bottle of sparkling wine delivered to our room. Despite us thinking it was included in the all-inclusive room package, we are now being told it is only provided for special occasions. We informed them that it is our anniversary today and now have 2 bottles.

We finished our Estimation game. S and J conceded defeat as C was so far ahead she couldn’t lose. We then played a Saturday NYT crossword puzzle watching the rain bucket down outside of our window. Eventually, we took C to the lobby to catch the shuttle to the airport. We suppose the pouring rain was a nice transition for her as she heads back to Scotland. While we were in the lobby, Marsha introduced us to the general manager of all the Sandals in St Lucia, Winston. S said he’d heard Winston was the best cricket player in St Lucia. S and Winston then talked cricket. Apparently Winston played with Courtney Walsh and Michael Holding.

We then decided today was the day we’d go to the hot tub at night before dinner. We met some great couples – Jason and Ginger from North Carolina and Nadia and Chris from Ealing, London. Jason was an orthopaedic surgeon, Nadia is a musical event planner and Chris is a DJ. Nadia is half Trinidadian and half Mauritian and has close ties to the Caribbean community, which she is able to use to promote Caribbean music and culture in London. She said usually at this time of the year, she would be working on sourcing costumes and planning for the annual Caribbean Carnival in Notting Hill. However, the Carnival is not going forward this year because of COVID. She is now considering moving to Barbados or St Lucia, where musical events are still happening. They got away during the most recent lockdown and we are sad that we will not have more time to get to know them while we are here as they seem to be a lot of fun.

When we got back to our room, Marsha called us to let us know that the French restaurant was closed today. She asked what we wanted to do. We said our next choice was Soy, the sushi restaurant. She said she’d call and get us a reservation even though they don’t do reservations. Marsha worked her magic and got us a reservation so we wouldn’t have to wait at Soy.

When we arrived, Lito the host said Happy Anniversary and we were led to our table, which was decorated with flower petals and glass beads. The server, Hetra, said Happy Anniversary and told us she’d prepared our table for us. We had the usual plus a veggie tempura for S.

We went back to the billiards room for a last round of pool, which as usual J won handily. We then went back to our room for some alone time. We were surprised to see a spread had been laid out thanks to Marsha. There was a heart-shaped towel on our bed with white lilies and then more lilies, chocolate cake, chocolates, strawberries and champagne on our table. It was very thoughtful and we’ve agreed that Sandals came through in the end, thanks to Marsha. S has begrudgingly agreed to give them a 5 on Tripadvisor and admits he is willing to come back for one of his daughter’s weddings. After all, Sandals gives you a free wedding if you stay for 3 nights and S does appreciate free stuff.

This post is my honest review of our stay at Sandals Negril Beach Resort and Spa – a luxury, all-inclusive, adults-only resort in Jamaica.

Now all-inclusive, relaxing and beachside are words that are not normally used to describe the kind of vacations my husband and I embark on. We’re usually more of the scaling mountains, jumping out of airplanes, in need of at least 3 days of sleep after our vacation sort of people.

So… would you believe me if I told you the reason my husband and I got our first passport 10 years ago was to stay at a Sandals Resort in St. Lucia? Because it’s actually the truth! Our first international journey together was to St. Lucia to stay at the Sandals Regency La Toc with my husband’s coworkers (and our now good friends)!

When the opportunity to visit a Sandals Resort in Jamaica for a Press Trip* (a.k.a. FAM Trip) presented itself this fall – I was intrigued. (I’ll explain what the heck that means at the end of the post.) This is not only because Sandals Resorts kick-started my international traveling, but also because after the last 6 years of nearly nonstop traveling, my husband and I are frankly getting a little tired. The idea of enjoying a beach for a little while didn’t sound too bad at all!

So, I dug out my sun hat, ordered a new swimsuit and headed off to tropical Jamaica to check out Sandals Negril and also Sandals Montego Bay. For this post, I’m only focusing on Sandals Negril. (More on their Montego Bay Resort coming soon!)

My Experience Stay at Sandals Negril

I’ll go into great detail about every aspect of this stay below. However, as my husband likes to say… “if you would rather just have the baby and not the labor pains” then scroll to the end of this post for my overall opinion of our stay at Sandals Negril.

Airport Arrival

After we made our way through customs in Montego Bay and grabbed our bag, we went over to the Sandals desk to see how our transfer worked.

We checked in with the people in charge of transfers and were then sent to a very nice lounge that had snacks and refreshments for us while we waited for the shuttle bus. (For the life of me, I can’t remember what they’re called but the rum-soaked, Twinkie-looking desserts they had were SO good.)

Then, our transfer was called and our bag was wheeled to the bus. Here is where I was a little annoyed, though. The person who transferred our bag was not actually a Sandals employee. Therefore, he wanted a tip for wheeling our bag from the airport to the shuttle bus.

I know that’s really not a big deal, but I was in the mindset of, “I don’t have to tip anybody for this trip! It’s all already paid for.” (Sandals has a no-tipping policy – it’s all included in your the price you pay for your vacation!) So, when one of my first interactions was with someone demanding a tip for wheeling a bag that I could have easily have wheeled myself, I was irritated. (I also was in need of a proper lunch – so, I was super hangry too!)

The transfer from the Montego Bay airport to Sandals Negril is supposed to take around 40 minutes. However, for some reason, traffic was REALLY bad that afternoon (around 2 pm), and it took us nearly 2 hours to get to the resort!

Which, that’s not Sandals’ fault! You can’t control the traffic. It was also not a bad drive. I enjoyed seeing how many goats I could spot. They were everywhere! Our bus driver called them “Jamaican reindeer.” Maybe it’s because I was sleep-deprived…but I found that super funny.

Checkin

Once we got to the resort, the check-in process was very nice! We were taken to a comfortable room and promptly given some sort of yummy rum cocktail while we waited to be escorted to our room. I also thought it was very nice because the gentleman who had brought us the cocktails was able to whip up a nonalcoholic cocktail for my husband in no time at all and didn’t bat an eye about him requesting one without any alcohol. (My husband doesn’t drink alcohol.)

This room was perfectly nice and comfortable. However, for me, its selling point was being right on top of the beach! Check out that view from our patio, below.

I liked being super close to the beach. However, this also meant that there is quite a bit of foot traffic outside your patio door. Not that it was ever a problem for us, it’s just something to be aware of.

I also liked that this room came with the option of room service. By the time we got to the resort I was beyond hangry and could hardly form words, I was getting so hungry! I also needed to get cleaned up for a welcome cocktail hour/dinner that evening. So, ordering room service was really convenient.

Sorry, I have no photos of the room service food as I inhaled it faster than you can blink – but I can promise you it was really good and took just over a half-hour to get to our room.

Restaurants

We were only at Sandals Negril for one night, so we didn’t get the chance to dine at every restaurant on the resort. However, I was very happy with the large selection of breakfast food at the morning buffet. I’m also REALLY picky about my coffee, but Sandals Negril did not disappoint in the coffee department and even gives you your own personal thermos of coffee for your breakfast table. (So, if you’re like me and drink an entire pot of coffee by yourself…you don’t have to go on in search of refills!)

We had our cocktail hour at their beachside Piano Bar. It was really a nice atmosphere and watching the sunset over the ocean was breathtaking.

Did not adjust the color at all! The sunset here was unreal!

Private Beach Dinners

I didn’t actually have a private beach dinner. However, I could not stop photographing the ones that were set up! They looked so romantic. I loved that they had flower petals leading up to the table!

Dinner at Sundowner

Our dinner took place at Sundowner. This is a restaurant that offers some great Carribean dishes with a relaxed, but classy atmosphere. I had the chicken that night, which was quite good… but I really screwed up. Sundowner’s coffee-rubbed sirloin is some of the best steaks my husband and some of the other folks we were with had ever had! Be sure to try it when you eat here.

Because we were here on a press trip*, we were also lucky enough to dine in a small group with the resort’s general manager – David Latchimy! Honestly, I would come back to Sandals Negril simply for the fact that it is run by David. He is such a kind and intelligent person, and he truly cares about his employees. He answered all of our questions openly and honestly and was also genuinely interested in our lives. I should have asked to take a photo with him, but I always feel so weird about doing that! The Staff

Given that we didn’t get to stay at the resort for too long, we didn’t get to know the staff as well here as we did at Sandals Montego Bay. However, I can say that the staff we interacted with all seemed very happy to be working here and they all went out of their way to make sure we were having a nice time!

Final Verdict – Would I Stay at Sandals Negril Again?

Absolutely! I would love to get to experience this resort more…even if it’s just to try out one of those amazing-looking beachfront dinners!

Sandals Negril has a very relaxed and intimate feeling compared to the other resorts I’ve experienced. I can see how Sandals Negril is a great destination for a wedding because of this. (Our friends were actually married here too! They had a fantastic experience!)

The only thing I can think of that would be a negative for some people is that the beachfront rooms will have quite a bit of foot traffic near them – as they are literally right on top of the beach. We weren’t there during the busy season, we were here in October, so it wasn’t overly busy at this time and never bothered us. I can see how during the busy season, though, this might bother some people. Just worth noting!

Overall, though, I really enjoyed the staff, the food, the drinks and the atmosphere at Sandals Negril. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Trip to Italy 🇮🇹 #1

Hello tumblrers,

I’d like to share my trip to Italy 🇮🇹. I’ll post photos and put information so maybe someone can find it useful for his/her next trip.

My trip was on March 2019 I traveled solo for total of 8 nights 9 days with more than 7 destinations. Mainly i traveled from Milan, Florence and Roma where i took these cities as my starting point to other destinations.

Generally Italy doesn’t consider as an expensive country, there are many good hostels or cheap apartments you can find on Airbnb. I stayed in 3 stars hotel such as ibis costs $95/night. Also, the food is great and affordable you can have a delicious handmade pizza only with $7.

It is better to book all your trips, guided tour, train tickets and all kinds of activities in advance so availability and cheap prices guaranteed. I recommend to use Viator.com and Musement.com for trip bookings and the official website for the trains services trenitalia.com .

Day 1: Milan

I landed in Milan airport (MXP) then took the airport shuttle to Milan centeral station. The duration is 1:15hr and costs only 8 EUR. While the taxi costs +80 EUR with the same duration.

Duomo di Millano:

The famous gothic cathedral in Milan located in the heart of the city where many shops and restaurants nearby.

Get your ticket to go inside and dicover the ancient architecture. Also, you can get your way to rooftop to have a great view of the whole city.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele

Beside the Duomo you will manage to get your way to the awesome shopping center and many restaurants located around.

At the other end of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele you can spot the ticket corner for the Da venicci museum which is located at the first floor. There you will have the chance to learn about the awesome Leonardo and to have the experience to play with some of his inventions.

Sempione Park

A great place to escape the city’s noise and to have a quit coffee break. Also to discover the ancient castle called Sforzesco Castle

Milan natural history museum

If you have kids, there is a good museum to go to spend 1 or 2hr. The museum is full of animal species and lots of fun information.

Milan is a big city and i spent only 1 full day there which i cant give a detailed descriptions of this wonderful city. You can have a look of the fashion district “quadrilatero della moda”

Day 2: Venice

I took the fast train from Milano Centrale station to Venezia San Lucia station the journey was 2:30hr. I booked my ticket from Trenitalia.com

Although everyone says that Venice is a romantic city, i totally disagree with them. Venice is a sad place it suffers from the tons of tourists which they are causing damages to environment. Also the people of Venice were abandoned their city because the price going high because of the tourists companies.

In Venice there are no cars only taxi boat and the famous Gondola (which costs 80EUR for 30min) . I highly recommend to get lost in venice, wander everywhere and feel the sadness of it’s tiny avenues.

Anyways, I’ll mention some of the popular places I’ve visited.

Rialto Bridge

The famous view point in Venice and many shops and cafes located around.

St. Marks Square

A beautiful sequare and wonderful sceneries , there is a St. Marks Basilica you can buy a ticket and get inside to see a brief history of vince also there is a palace you can vist called Doges Palace.

I’ll stop here for the first part of the trip and I’ll continue the in new posts.
