the dream was smth like first activating some kind of transformation into latias, the other one recieved damage, we fused together into loss fueled missile that needed to blow uo a plane and for some reason there was a plane landing on a residential street but it twisted out of our way and it would've been too slow to turn around. the lossfuek ran out and ????? I was running around the highway with a paper bag with a cartoony black powder bomb in it trying to find where I was supposed to put it to detinatr witvout hurting anykneby. exit 4 under the overpass...there were people around waiting and watching me.

there was a haunted house of some kind. kallego iruma was there, as well as a group of other people. he looked a bit different and he was some kind of warlock. he knew more about thebspirite inhabiting this place than I did and would frequently cast increasingly high level spells to distract them. he cast "warlock cross" and told us to run, and we did, and we got outside (which was looking gloomy and haunted and dead ad well like terraria graveyard) & we saw a giant neon green cross of light burwt through the roof and windows of wherever we'd been and spirits flying ibtothe light like moths to get zapped.

everyone who was gathered then participated in a live reddit poll about which limbus character was the best. the emo and lanky guy from sss gridman was there which is so crazy bc I never watched that show I only read somebody's reviews of it the year it came out. how did he get there???? did kallego turn into him? anyway I cheated in the poll to make don Quixote win over outis but then tried to hide my cheating from my friends who were checkig my data and managed to civer it uo sibce idfaked the stats i was putting in and nir the fibal result .

I woke up in a rainforest, or maybe just forest like area in like a top down rpgmaker zone. I was helping the tree people with something. they were all fairly nice, through I was hesitant to go further into their camp. I knew the types of fusion they'd done and sure enough when walking down with another guy to grab something there were like bodies with no heads, sets of legs fused together, just piles of leftover human meat made into a moving creature that hesrd us and wanted my bits. or thats how I felt you needed to have a special pheromine to deal with them or else they go jnsanw. sonw people were born with thwt special pheromone and were all forced to be the evil scientists thatcreate these eguysm anywsbaftee heloing out I left .

to the left was the blue witch's house. to the right was the tree people (druids ?? florans ?? elves ?? idk) zone. if I went south there were a few 3-4 dudes camping. they seemed aggro so I left them alone & went north, which was a scenic trail around the area that culminated in an overlook on a separate cliff above the dudes camping.

as I was standing there looking over, 2 dudes were chillin and the 3rd one staggered back with blood on him like RHEY KILLED DALE WE HSVE TO GO THROW ROCKS and I checked the minimap - there was a skull dynbol in rhr middle of the path to show a dead body. it looked like he'd antagonized the leaf people, who I had some rapport with. I jumped off the cliff in between the literal army of leaf people and the 2 dudes (bloody guy had collapsed at camp) hoping to mediate, but both sides ignored me & i was like ok this is not a great placw to ve & managed to squeeze out. one of the dudes went down but the other was actually a prolific fighter and was doing quite a number on the people - at least until I saw from my out of the way position in the leaf kingdom doorframe some huge hulking mud trolls (?) come down the road from the north and it was all over for the fourth guy. I had a flashback to abother dream where 2 kids one I red and one in yellow were antagobizung some cat outside the blue witchs house & vandalizing her shit, and realized these two most dead guys were the same kids. no great loss.

I remembered that the tree person queen said she'd found something nice after the recent fight, and i just saw her when goinf to checj our the bkue witcg (the dokr ws crsvked abd there were blue cats un the yard) - thats righr. ningguang genshin peeked out of the open door of the tree people area to survey the carnage. she wasn't looking great she was in pretty bad shape - I guessed after fighting osial and bloeing up her castle, she herself had landed o here in the kwoods.

he blue witch's profile pic looked like an edited photo of some real life person with a flat bangs cut, with a crappy blue filter put iver. she spoke very strangely, and told her cats to drink the blood of the tree elves and get strong, and I realized she wasn't anywhere near as powerful as I'd heard. she was under constant siege by the annoying and those two bratty guys that got killed, so she needed the blood.

I ended up getting her to trust me (the tree people area had been like deserted) and we went over and talked to ningusng and teame to with her. we found a room full of pillsged alcohol from the three people's collection. we stole a few of the most expensive bottkes of alcohol - the best one was a welcome to our conference type thing, butnwitb a specific serial number thwt showed that it was still really good. we made plans to exchsbge their bottle for real money then I woke up

akane shinjo was not a victim, she was a tool ( ignorance is not innocence)

Last minute forced kaiju transformation with her breaking down emotionally/ confliction was a poor attempt to emotionally manipulate the audience into thinking she was a victim.

And how cowardly was it to make some ghoulish looking villain archetype in the computer the “real” bad guy instead of committing to Akane being the problem,.

COP OUT.

Ofc the pretty girl was the real victim and the tall, lanky mf is the REAL bad guy. Trash, weak, lame, safe.

 Akame Ga Kill is mediocre too but i will give it this:

They didn’t let the fact that the murderer was cute get in the way of justice. She didn’t get to log out scottfree and move on with her life. 

That bitch got cut open. Respect.

So nope, she can pose in her bikini all she want, not enough to wipe away all the shit she did, couldn’t stand her or the awkward fanservice/blatant creepy eroticism writers kept forcing on her either. 

Don’t care if she’s got glasses on, or if she’s hugging on a body sized pillow, trying to be cute and shit.

Or putting her funky feet in the camera- all the classic, creepy as shit (because someone animated that and said: “YEP”) soft kink baity tricks these studios use to pander to the males/audience- to MANUFACTURE   attachment to a character through sex appeal when they’re too lazy to give her an actual identity or purpose.

Akane really should’ve been the focus, and Gridman was presented as the bad guy through her eyes throughout the Anime. If they wanted to go there and make it actually interesting.

She’s a manipulative little snot, petty, evil and she didn’t suffer enough. Period.

She needed to die, or be written to have an actual redemption arc, fix her goddamn mess.

Not a last minute feels fest after a bunch of soft spoken attempts at character depth through pretty colors, quiet moments, girl x girl bonding and vague presumptions of what the fuck her issue is. 

Like her cracked glasses supposedly being a reference to nemesis prime or her “shattered” self? 

Lmfao, okay? Put that kind of effort into her character arc instead of “THEMES” surrounding her and then we’re cooking with grease.

And then to find out [SPOILERS]: She’s just some Japanese high schoolgirl IRL, aka first world problems. 

Not a disgruntled abuse victim, not a rape victim, not someone being seriously mistreated (or that we see, not told); Something that would reasonably filter as malignant intent if they suddenly had the role of “god” essentially.

Something worth exploring instead of her body, her being a minor btw. 

The kaiju references were one of the best things about the show, but that had nothing to do with her character. 

Point being:

Take away that modern Baby Doll Anime appearance and instead she was looking plain jane like Anan from Turn A Gundam; Or actually ugly.

She’d get nowhere near as many people willing to just settle with her walking away from her mess. Or thinking she’s deep lmfao.

Which is where 90% of this leeway is coming from, thirst and sex appeal.

No amount of fanservice & cutesie waifu bait scenes will alleviate her of her actions or paint her as some victim that someone used for their ends-

Even as that is the case, she gets to log out despite still choosing to do what she did? She wouldn’t get that excuse if she were a creepy fat looking dude character with a heart of gold. Fact.

Alebit reluctantly, Imma watch SSS-Gridman again at some point anyway for refreshed context, so i’m not just talking out my bum (which i'm not either way because I actually watched the show) . Just to observe her character specifically & the writing surrounding her coming to terms with her deeds.

Otherwise, It’s only symbolic that while in her crib, the character always surrounded by literal TRASH-

SSSS Gridman: At what point should you make a series self-contained?

I just binged the whole I SSSS Gridman series in 2 days and loved it despite not being a fan of that general genre! The ending, however, is interesting for multiple reasons and so I wanted to talk about it. There are some things I think are bad and some things I think are up for interpretation so spoilers ahead!

First I think we need to catch everyone up on the “official ending” aka what the production team was really going for. As a few people have pointed out, its not so much a dream sequence as it is Akane meeting a very real Alexis and then building a world in the Computer World. This is basically because the whole thing takes place in the world of the original Gridman show. In this world of her own creation, Akane creates herself to be perfect and then creates Rikka as a copy of herself in real life. Akane’s intention is to get Yuta to fall in love with her but instead he falls for Rikka aka the real Akane.

So this is obviously a very good twist and completely re-contextualizes the final battle. Alexis being an immortal and perfect being is defeated by Gridman a finite and fragile being just as the perfect Rikka is defeated by the real Rikka. What was a pretty lame and cliche speech from Gridman now has an added layer that makes it actually good. 

But here’s where the problem comes in, and I think this is the only actual problem with the ending. We as an audience were only presented the evidence for the Rikka vs Akane copy thing at the very end of the show, yet the emotional climax which relied on that information to elevate itself into being actually good came before that. We needed a bit of dialogue from Akane before the battle so she could spill the beans a bit. It doesn’t have to reveal they’re in the Computer World, but it does have to reveal that Akane based Rikka off herself and that Yuta fell for her. 

As for the part where we suddenly jump to live-action, this is a good stylistic choice to, for one show visually that Akane was a literal higher dimensional being inside her own world, but also to show that she has now returned to the literal “real world” as opposed to her own world which was a “dream” in that it was perfect. This was set up in the episode Dream where the main cast tells her she needs to wake up and return to reality. Of course its highly likely that when they say “dream” it just means an idealistic world not a literal “it was all a dream” ending. The problem is that without the context of the original Girdman TV show, it very much seems like that is how they ended it.

So the final question, which is the most interesting in my opinion, is whether or not shows should require outside information in order for you to get the full emotional impact. Because if it was just a dream, Akane only subconsciously created that whole world and Rikka and Yuta which I think ruins the emotion behind that story line as Akane didn’t actually have any agency as a character. The ending without context is bad and the ending with context is good. Does that mean the show has a duty to provide the context in a way that’s easily accessible to the audience? Alternatively, is it better to let the audience explore the subject matter on their own and in doing so find the “true ending”? One leans more towards author autonomy and the other leads more towards audience autonomy. 

What do you guys think? Should an piece of media be obligated to give you all the information needed in the pack it comes in or is it more engaging for the audience to discover information on their own?
