Legends Never Die

It has been 6 years since I started playing League of Legends (LoL). I have witnessed how South Korean Telecommunications (SKT) performed through the years. Two players inspired me to play more dedicated because of their HIStory. He is Lee Sang-hyeok and Kim Jeong-gyun, also known as “Faker” and “KkOma”.

Meanwhile, there was this team who fought with more commitment than SKT and that is Samsung Galaxy (SSG). SSG is the top rival of SKT in LoL. Last November 3, these top two teams fought for the championship title in Beijing. It is a rematch between the two teams.

Despite the slow start of SSG in Worlds 2017, they surprised the fans after removing the tournament favorite, LongZhu gaming. They easily doffed the remaining team on their way to the finals.

Samsung Galaxy had a dominating Game 1 as they slay the unkillable demon king (Faker) scoring 7-0, only giving up one torrent to end an almost perfect game.

In the start of Game 2, Huni drafted his pocket pick Yasuo with the crowd roaring the stage in reply to Cuvee’s Gnar. SKT was in the lead in the early game with the synergy of mid and jungle to power up the rest of the map. But one team fight turns the tide, Bang flashing with ultimate resulting in his death that cost a team wipeout for Samsung Galaxy, SSG capitalizing the error and taking baron to destroy the nexus of SKT.

SKT coming back to the stage renewed facing a do or die Game 3 match, with Blank replacing Peanut in the jungle to help the team to fire up once more, SKT finally found their synergy as a team and played like a champion but Samsung galaxy will not let the title pass their sight with 1 game away to lift the Summoner’s Cup, holding on SSG stole the momentum with Cuvee picking off Bang and securing baron. SSG forced SKT to commit a mistake in the mid lane with Ruller flashing-ult with Varus that caught the 2 cores of SKT, with Faker dying instantly SSG picked up the heart and soul of the team. With Faker and Wolf gone, SSG opened the curtain for themselves marching to the mid lane killing the last members of SKT to win the Summoner’s Cup and leaving the crowd stunned.

No one expected a 3-0 sweep will happen, it was beyond the expectations of many to witness so much edge-of-the-seat moments throughout the journey of Worlds 2017. Phreak, a shoutcaster (commentator) of LoL said, “the South Korean Telecommunications dynasty is over, all hail the kings! Samsung Galaxy, your 2017 Worlds Champions!”

SSG really showed a wonderful match defeating SKT with a 3-0 standing. I commend their persistence to win the Summoner’s Cup but even though SKT lost, I am still inspired. There has been a lot of changes in terms of attitude towards the game and life, I know that they will come back stronger because legends never die.

Finals Predictions

Ladies and Gents, the match we’ve all been waiting for. The rematch between SK Telecom T1, and Samsung Galaxy. I’m going to break down each lane, and each match up to predict who will be the winner of worlds 2017.

Top lane: Huni vs. Cuvee

Huni throughout his career has been known for having huge success on carry top laners. Unfortunately for him, carry top laners are not the name of the game right now. It’s all about being an insane front line for your team, while still dishing out a colossal amount of damage. Cuvee definitely has the upper hand in this head to head because of his champion pool, and his performance. Throughout the tournament Cuvee has just looked a lot better than Huni, and if SKT hope to carry on their dynasty they need a big performance out of Huni.

Jungle: Peanut and Blank vs. Ambition

In my eyes there is no winning this match up for SK Telecom. Both Blank, and Peanut have played poorly at worlds, while Ambition literally carried his team through the Korean regional qualifier, and throughout the tournament. He has looked so good, and is the key to Samsung’s fantastic worlds run. Whenever his opponent goes for a gank, its incredibly risky because as soon as he has vision of you, he immediately counter-jungles your camps, and if the gank is a failure you’ve wasted time, and money. Playing against Ambition is no easy task, and i’m curious as to who SKT stick in the ring for him to fight.

Mid lane: Faker vs. Crown

Ten times out of ten i’m going to choose Faker over any opposing mid laner. It’s nothing against them, it’s just I’ve seen Faker turn around so many games by himself, there’s not a doubt in my mind that he’s the greatest to ever play the game. Crown won;t get stomped in lane, but overall Faker is going to have more pressure due to his Taliyah pick, and his Corki. Both have great play making capabilities, and can get around the map quickly with their “global” abilities,

Bot lane: Bang and Wolf vs. Ruler and CoreJJ

This should be a pretty even laning phase, but is favored Samsung’s way. Bang and Wolf have both looked quite shaky during their run at worlds, while it’s been the complete opposite for Ruler and CoreJJ. These two have been on fire since they hit the rift in group stages, and have not looked back since. Ruler’s positioning has been exquisite, and he’s been dishing out a lot of damage in extended team fights. I would love to see his Varus come out. When he plays that champion all of his movements are so graceful,and strategic. 

Overall the match is favored Samsung Galaxy’s way, but never count out SKT, Their ability to show up in the clutch moments can never be understated. I’m going to take Samsung, it’s going to be real close though. SSG 3-2

第9名：Meiko LPL / EDG / 輔助

EDG 一直是中國最受歡迎和表現最好的團隊之一，隨著 2017 LPL 夏季賽的勝利，他們已經贏得了五次 LPL 冠軍、連續五次的德瑪西亞杯冠軍，並三度進入世界賽八強，「陣中資深選手 Meiko 今年的表現十分穩定，許多對上 EDG 的隊伍常常得針對他來禁用好幾位英雄，他真的沒有什麼缺點可以挑剔，相信 Meiko 將會帶領中國第一種子到達更高的境界。」PapaSmithy指出。
