England captain Ben Stokes helped off field with possible hamstring injury ahead of Sri Lanka series
England captain Ben Stokes had to be helped off the field after suffering an injury while playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred domestic cricket competition on Sunday, raising concerns he could miss the upcoming test series against Sri Lanka. The 33-year-old Stokes pulled up while running between the wickets as the Superchargers chased a victory target of 153 against Manchester…

Thoughts on our win :
1. Finally God finally after so much waiting crying and desperately hoping we won an ICC event. Finally our players will be bringing a trophy home 💙
2. Virat, Rohit and Jadeja retired ....yes it's sad but you know what? Good for them. I think retiring at the peak of your career with a trophy by your side is much better than being dropped from series then formats and then basically being forgotten. Take the example of bhuvi, Rahane, Pujara shikhar, etc. Even today their fans wish for a last match but we all know that's not going to happen. So before some rando selectors drop them and insult them... They decided to leave first. I applaud their decision.
3. Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel and Nitish Reddy are debuting in 3 days for our series in Zimbabwe. Shubhman Gill will be captain. I do not like that decision. I think Sanju or maybe even Ruturaj should have been given captaincy. But it's the decision of selectors and coach...and ultimately gill is an Indian player and I will always support our players and team.
4. I am desperately waiting for the matches for Ranjhi Trophy 2024 - 2025 to start just to see Ishan play and re-enter the race. I will never blame him for leaving but God I wish he hadn't left.
5. If they don't make Gautam Gambhir our next coach in the Sri Lanka series I WILL THROW HANDS.
6. I bow down for the Afghanistan players and their dedication. Without their victory against Australia and Bangladesh we wouldn't be able to kick Australia out of the world cup. And their entry into the semi finals proves that they are the best cricket team in Asia after India.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) is fond of responding to his detractors with a bit of advice: “Let your haters be your waiters when you sit down at the table of success.”
The Department of Justice now seems to have a few things to say about Adams’ success. In a 57-page, five-count indictment unsealed Thursday, federal prosecutors accused him of taking bribes from foreign nationals and doling out favors over a span of nearly a decade.
Others in his orbit have also been investigated by federal authorities, leading to several high-profile resignations this month — among them police commissioner Edward Caban and mayoral legal adviser Lisa Zornberg.
Adams said the charges were “entirely false” and “based on lies,” adding that he looks forward to defending himself.
“I will fight these injustices with every ounce of my strength and my spirit,” he said.
Adams, a former captain with the New York Police Department, was elected mayor of the country’s largest city in 2021 on a pro-NYPD platform, and is seeking reelection in 2025.
The indictment paints a picture of a man who is comfortable accepting luxuries either for free or little cost, allegedly using fake paper trails and cash to conceal them, and performing various favors in return. It also accuses him of using a donation-matching program aimed at giving New Yorkers a stronger voice in local elections to steal some $10 million in public funds.
Here’s what we learned about the accusations:
Adams allegedly took a lot of money from Turkish nationals who believed he could be president someday.
Prosecutors say foreign nationals seeking favors from Adams funneled cash to his campaign through American citizens in a “straw man” setup.
A text exchange between a Turkish businessman and an aide to Adams provided insight into the deals:
“Fund Raising in Turkey is not legal, but I think I can raise money for your campaign off the record,” the businessman wrote. Asked how Adams would formally declare the funds as a campaign donation to comply with the law, the businessman responded: “He won’t declare it ... Or ... We’ll make the donation through an American citizen in the U.S .... A Turk ... I’ll give cash to him in Turkey ... Or I’ll send it to an American ... He will make a donation to you.”
The aide said Adams “wouldn’t get involved in such games” because it “might cause a big stink later on,” but promised to talk to Adams about it.
Adams’ texted his feelings about a different but similar proposal from another Turkish national.
“I don’t want his willing to help be waisted [sic],” Adams allegedly wrote.
At least one of the Turkish nationals believed Adams might be president of the United States one day, according to the indictment.
He was a frequent flier on a Turkish airline.
Adams either flew for free or for a heavily discounted rate on a Turkish airline owned in large part by the Turkish government, according to the indictment, which noted destinations included “France, China, Sri Lanka, India, Hungary and Turkey itself.” He allegedly did so even when it was less convenient than other options, like transferring through Istanbul to get to France.
Prosecutors say the business class flights to India, taken with his partner in 2016, would have cost $15,000, but the couple paid less than $3,000 and accepted free upgrades. Another trip taken in 2017 with several companions would have cost $35,000 regularly.
An Adams staffer arranging flights for him in June 2021 told an employee of the airline to charge a price that was “somewhat real” because “we don’t want [the media] to say he is flying for free.”
Turkish nationals “further arranged for Adams and his companions to receive, among other things, free rooms at opulent hotels, free meals at high-end restaurants, and free luxurious entertainment while in Turkey,” the indictment stated.
Adams tried hiding his antics, but incriminating texts remained.
One exchange between Adams and a staffer stood out in the indictment. The pair were texting about another possible trip to Turkey in 2019.
“To be o[n the] safe side Please Delete all messages you send me,” the staffer texted Adams.
He texted back, “Always do.”
A staffer deleted texts during her FBI interview.
In November 2023, an Adams staffer submitted to a voluntary interview with the FBI. At one point, the indictment said, she “excused herself to a bathroom and, while there, deleted the encrypted messaging applications she had used to communicate” with Adams and his Turkish contacts.
Adams helped open a costly new skyscraper despite flaws.
Adams allegedly ensured that a 36-floor building that would serve as the new home of the Turkish consulate could open quickly, in time for a visit by the Turkish president in September 2021.
The New York Fire Department was concerned about dozens of defects with the building. But a top NYFD official wrote a “conditional letter of no objection” to the building, which he had never done before, and it opened in time.
He allegedly made other construction problems go away.
One of the straw donors, who was not a member of the city’s Turkish community, later texted Adams about a problem with the city’s Department of Buildings.
Tumblr media
He is famous in Turkey, apparently.
One of the straw donors was a Turkish entrepreneur referred to in the indictment as “the Promoter,” who arranges events for wealthy and powerful people to meet one another. The indictment states that he was “hoping to leverage Adams’ considerable fame in Turkey to benefit the Promoter’s clients.”
Right after Adams won the 2021 mayoral election, the man suggested in a text message to another Turkish national that he intended “to go and talk to our elders in Ankara about how we can turn this into an advantage for our country’s lobby.”
According to prosecutors, Adams was living it up on his visits to the country. One trip included a stay at the Four Seasons, a yacht tour, a stay at a luxury beach resort, and a car and driver. He paid $720.
He ignored the Armenian genocide on its remembrance day.
As mayor, Adams did not make a statement on the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day in 2022, allegedly on request from his Turkish contacts. Turkish nationalists continue to deny the systematic massacre that began in 1915.
A secretive 2025 Adams campaign event was allegedly filled with foreign nationals.
Prosecutors say Adams welcomed wealthy foreigners to a fundraising event in a Manhattan hotel which was billed as a climate-related event. A PowerPoint presentation was allegedly created to help hide the true purpose of the event, saying it was hosted by “International Sustainability Leaders” and had a ticket price of $5,000.
He told the FBI he forgot his phone password.
When the FBI executed a search warrant for Adams’ devices in November, they found his mobile phone to be locked. Adams claimed he’d recently changed the password from a four-digit number to a six-digit number — and forgotten it.

My thoughts on the ODI Squad even though no one asked. Do I look like I care? Nah
Rohit Captaining again..it's fine. I don't have a problem even though I want youngsters to take over. But this is not bad. We have got experience here.
Gill as Vice Captain. Not a hater but we do have Rahul and Kohli in squad. And well I think Gill is an exceptional player but doesn't feels threat to his position that much which will harm later. But I am proud and happy that my baby got this big responsibility. Best of luckkk!!
Kohli is GREATT. He deserves every bit of his position and more. I am excited for his innings cuz afterall he has the "saving team's ass in clutch moments" quota.
Rahul and Pant. I said it once and I'll say it again. Where's the rule for playing domestic and practicing. Go around the world then walking in team. I AM HAPPY THAT PANT MADE A COMEBACK AND BOUNCED BACK but honestly can u please prove urself in domestic first babbyy. I am even fine with Rahul.
Iyer. We saw it coming from a mile away when the coach changed and honestly he deserves it so badly. He's an awesome player and always has been.
I see no Bumrah and Hardik in the bowling line up and we're playing against Sri Lanka known for its bowling calibre. Bhagwaan hi bachaaye clutch overs mein hume although I trust Kullu and Siraj too.
Axar, Arshdeep, Rana Ji and Khaleel. Not bad actually a good choice and best choice( first 2)
Let's acknowledge the elephant in the room. Riyan Parag. I don't know what Gambhir was thinking cuz I saw Rutu in the same series as him performing better.
Gautam Gambhir as Head Coach let's see what magic he does .

nashuri cosmic horror | 3/3 | 12.0k words | ao3
“Y’called Captain?”
“It’s unfortunate but Miss Shuri has left us no choice. We must free her from that creature’s influence.”
“...aye, Captain.”
“May she find some comfort that her final resting place will be in the sea.”
As the fog rolls through on this somber night, Professor Shuri Udaku tip-toes her way to the bow of the fishing vessel. Heart pounding loudly, she peered over the edge of the railing to stare into the endless dark of the ocean. The flickering light of the moon on the water made it seem like the whole cosmos was dancing upon the calm waves. A trick of the light perhaps but Shuri knew that there was something to it—something enigmatic.
“Namor…” She murmurs quietly, wrapping her arms around her waist, “Where are you?”
El niño sin amor.
Her memory flickers to the first time she heard that wretched name, given to the legendary creature that haunted these waters. It was on a night like this one—somber and cold. The crew was already half drunk, sipping on canisters of bitter alcohol to keep chill away from their toes and fingers. Shuri sat further away, maintaining a cordial distance to the group with her own cup of warm tea. No alcohol for her. She has seen the dark glint in some of these men’s eyes—she would keep her wits about her.
The fishermen were already not happy about having a woman on board but she was wealthy enough to shut them up. Even with their misogyny, men cannot resist their endless greed for wealth. She remembers the hunger in the crew gaze as she pulled out large stacks of bills. So little is known about the marine life in the area that she was willing to pay exorbitant prices to have a spot upon one of the few vessels that dared to sail these waters. This patch of sea is her only option left. She was running out of time.
Shuri is the youngest distinguished professor at Oxford—an achievement that came from her groundbreaking research exploring the greatest mystery of their time: the ocean. The new species of coelacanth she discovered off the coast of Sri Lanka led to a breakthrough in cancer research due to their unusually high healing factor. As a reward, her face was plastered upon many prestigious scientific magazines and she was lauded as one of the greatest minds of their time. A short-lived fame however. People’s memories are short and that discovery was seven years ago. Nothing she has discovered recently has ever matched up to it and there was pressure in her department to publish something substantial or risk having their funding cut.
So, she struck a deal with a fairly dubious captain and his crew. She would be left alone to conduct her scientific inquiries and in return, she agreed to not to interfere with any of the fishermen’s work.
The arrangement worked well enough. There were a few grumblings on board about all the space her scientific equipment would be taking up on the deck but the captain kept the crew’s grips in check with the promise of a cut of her money. Most of her days were boring and uneventful. Shuri would spend her mornings with her notebook in hand, taking notes on all the readings her equipment took over the night. She would then write up her findings in the afternoon underneath a baking sun before spending her evenings in her own private cabin, eating a lukewarm meal that barely kept her warm during the cold, wet nights.
Finally, tired of only having the four walls of her cabin to keep her company, she agreed to join the crew on deck for dinner. Though regret simmers in her gut as she cringes at all the lewd jokes and remarks thrown around between the crew members. As the alcohol flowed, so did these men’s tongues. Luckily, most of them just ignored her. Most of them.
“Did the locals -hic- tell ya about it missus?” One of the men, an American that smells like a wet dog, stumbles towards her, “There’s a beast that haunts these waters. A beast with -hic- dagger teeth and eyes of night that consumes the souls of black hearted men! Nobody dares try to sail over here because of the bastard.”
Shuri flinches as the American looms over her, the stench of alcohol filling her nostrils, “Lucky for you, we are the only dumbfucks brave enough to get on this boat. We aren’t afraid of some el-neen-o-s’more!”
“¡Orale, guey!” scolds another man, a local sailor with missing teeth, “How many times have I told you? It’s el niño sin amor.”
The boy without love. A chill runs up Shuri’s spine.
“That’s what I fucking said! El Neeno–Simor–sin amur–fucking damn—Namor. Yeah, Namor—that's what the captain said it’s name was. Better be careful, missus!”
The local sailor shakes his head, “Keep my beautiful language out of your mouth, guerito.”
“Fuck off, I’ll keep my cock in your ma’s mouth if I want—”
The man wasn’t able to finish his sentence before the local sailor smashed his fist into the side of his jaw. With a loud crack, the man topples over onto his back and the rest of the crew swarm around him including the captain. Shuri is frozen in place, shocked at the violence that had just taken place.
“He’s alive, cap. Nothing feels broken.”
“Carry him to his bunk and let him sleep it off,” grumbles the captain, “Rest of you? Party’s over.”
Shuri decides not to join the crew for dinner again after that.

ISRAEL REALTIME - noon Nov 8 🇮🇱
"Connecting the World to Israel in Realtime"
▪️CONCERNS… (Amit Segal, Ch. 12) From PM office announcement, “meeting with the heads of the authorities in Judea and Samaria is taking place today as part of a visit by the War Cabinet to the Central Command, in view of the security officials' warning of a serious security escalation in Judea and Samaria.”
▪️IDF ON THE MOVE… Enemy sources report online that IDF tanks are inside the Ansar outpost in southern Gaza City (Tel El Hawa area).  According to them, this indicates that the front of the foot soldiers is already much deeper inside Gaza City.
▪️EXTREME PALLYWOOD… a bit surprised at the EXTREME OBVIOUS staged photos from Gaza, yet being published in mainstream media as real.  Photo 1 - 10 children run towards camera (away from ‘bad things’).. area dusty, children clean, in the background group of men smoking drinking coffee not very worried about bad things.  Photo 2 - man spontaneously holds his head screaming near rubble in clean white t-shirt, whoops 2 different photographers on opposite sides of him caught in picture.  Photo 3 - man holding child (child with clean white undershirt) running away from ‘bad things’ through burnt tree branches, with a crowd (with a man with clean white t-shirt) behind him who is casually walking the other way.
I’m sure there is real horrible things happening, but EVERY GAZA HAMAS PICTURE IN THE MEDIA is FAKED, MANIPULATED, or AI.  Every.  Single.  One.  https://nypost.com/2023/11/06/news/israels-ground-invasion-ramps-up-as-gaza-death-toll-surpasses-10k/
▪️ROCKET STATS… The percentage of successful rocket interceptions is over 88%.  About 9,600 launches from 4 arenas since the beginning of the war.  David’s Sling intermediate range interceptors scored 60 interceptions for the system with 100% success.  And 2 Arrow long range interceptions, one noted as the first-ever live interception of a missile in space.
▪️WORKERS… (A portion of the Israeli economy operates using lower-cost foreign workers, in construction, farming, elder care, and some basic jobs at restaurants among others.  Palestinian and Gaza workers filled many of these roles.)  Minister of Interior MK Arbel, "We signed a very important agreement with Sri Lanka to receive thousands of workers.”
▪️TEL AVIV CITY… The Municipality decided to budget about NIS 50 million for the construction of protected areas in the municipal kindergartens where there is no protected area.
▪️WORLD POLITICS… US SEC STATE “There is no possibility that Hamas will continue to rule Gaza. A transition phase is needed after combat.  Israel cannot manage/control Gaza and its captains have informed us that they have no intention of doing so.”
▪️ISRAELI POLITICS… Justice Minister calls meeting of Committee to Select Judges, the delay of this meeting being one of the primary controversial issues in Israel prior to the war.  It will meet next Thursday at the office of the Minister of Justice in Jerusalem.

My collection of coins
Hey there, as I talked about my coins in that post about collections, I felt like showing it off. Is a very humble one, but I like it, and it's nice to add some more to the collection thanks to my own travels or my friends thinking of me when they go to other countries. Also many of these coins were given to me through my father's family members, who many worked as sailors, and my uncle, who was a captain of the merchant navy, and would give me these coins as gift when I was a child.
Tumblr media
5 Pesos coins from Colombia
Tumblr media
A dime, a quarter and a Sacagawea dollar from my honeymoon in USA. I specially loved to get the Sacagawea dollar, I felt very lucky.
Tumblr media
10, 5 and 100 Rupees from Sri Lanka. The picture in the bill is so pretty.
Tumblr media
A bunch of Escudos from Portugal. This currency doesn't exist anymore as it has been replaced by the Euro. As Portugal is a republic, the back of the coins portray historical portuguese personalities.
Tumblr media
A bunch of 5 Céntimos coins from Venezuela. My grand aunt lives there, and my grandma used to give me these everytime she went to visit her. The curious piece in this bunch is the copper one, as it is the oldest one of them and the last batch of these coins made in this material.
Tumblr media
A bunch of Canadian cents from the second half of 20th century.
Tumblr media
10 and 50 pfennig and 5 Marks from Germany. My brother brought me these from a trip he made there right before the change to Euro, so these are from the 90s.
Tumblr media
5 Francs from France, their pre-Euro currency. A friend who went to Eurodisney in the first half of the 90s gave it to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one is one of my jewels: 5 Krone from Norway! In my life I could dream of stepping in Norway before the Euro era, so for me, getting this coin as a child was like getting a coin from some fantasy country! I still cherish it dearly. Funnily enough, I don't remember how it came to me.
I will continue in another post as I reached the picture limit :P

[ad_1] South Africa and India captains ahead of the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup Final (PC: T20WorldCup/X) The stage is set in Kuala Lumpur as India and South Africa gear up for the final of the second edition of the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup. Both teams have remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, promising an intense battle for the trophy. India, the defending champions, won the inaugural edition in South Africa, defeating England in the final under Shafali Verma’s captaincy. Now, under the leadership of Niki Prasad, they aim to retain the title. For South Africa, this is a golden opportunity to claim their maiden championship, and with the momentum they have built, they will be eager to seize the moment.  Journey so far India India have been absolutely dominant in their title defence so far! They started strong in the group stage, thrashing West Indies by nine wickets, Malaysia by 10 wickets, and Sri Lanka by 60 runs. India carried the momentum into the ‘Super Six’ stage, where they cruised past Bangladesh by eight wickets and demolished Scotland with a commanding 150-run victory. In the semi-final against England, India faced some early pressure but held their nerve to secure a massive nine-wicket win, sealing their spot in the final in an emphatic fashion. South Africa South Africa’s journey to the final has been solid, with a mix of dominant wins and rain-affected games. They started their campaign with a 22-run victory over New Zealand before thrashing Samoa by 10 wickets and securing a 41-run (DLS) win over Nigeria to advance to the ‘Super Six’ stage. Rain played a role in this phase, affecting both of their matches. They managed to defeat Ireland by seven wickets, while their game against the USA was abandoned. However, their points and net run rate were enough to seal a semi-final spot. South Africa team after their semi-final win (PC: T20WorldCup/X) In the semis, South Africa delivered their best performance of the tournament, knocking out tournament favourites Australia with a five-wicket win, showcasing their ability to rise to the occasion when it matters most. Previous meetings In the previous edition of the tournament, they met in the group stage, where India secured a seven-wicket win by successfully chasing a 167-run target at Willowmoore Park. Several players from both teams who participated in that match are part of this final as well. For India, Shabnam (0/20), Sonam Yadav (1/47), and Gongadi Trisha (15 off 11) featured in that game. On the South African side, Simone Lourens (61 off 44), skipper Kayla Reyneke (11 off 26), wicketkeeper Karabo Meso (19* off 11), Seshnie Naidu (1/32), and Nthabiseng Nini (0/26) were part of the playing XI. More recently, both teams clashed in a warm-up match at Bangi before this tournament. India once again emerged victorious, winning by six wickets (via DLS). South Africa batted first and posted 129/5 in 19.4 overs, with captain Reyneke leading the way with a 26-ball 47, including two fours and four sixes. For India, Shabnam, Parunika Sisodia, and Vaishnavi Sharma picked up a wicket each. In response, India reached 109/4 in 13.3 overs before rain intervened, and they were declared winners via the DLS method. Trisha top-scored with 32 off 20 balls, while Monalisa Legodi was the standout bowler for South Africa, taking two wickets.     For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Gongadi Trisha after smashing century against Scotland in the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 (PC: BCCI Women/X) Players to watch out for India India has been outstanding in all three departments throughout the tournament. Having played all their matches in Kuala Lumpur, they are well-acquainted with the conditions and pitch behaviour. Their familiarity with the venue is an added advantage, as they also won the Women’s U19 Asia Cup here in 2024, where their spinners and Trisha played a crucial role. Spin is expected to play a major role in the final, with Aayushi Shukla, Parunika, and Vaishnavi leading the charge.
Vaishnavi is the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, having claimed 15 wickets in five matches at an incredible economy of 2.83 (including a hattrick). Aayushi follows closely with 12 wickets in six games at an economy of 3.15. The pace duo of Shabnam and Joshitha VJ will also be key in providing early breakthroughs. In the batting department, India’s top order has been dominant. Trisha is currently the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 265 runs in six innings, averaging 66.25 with a strike rate of 149.71 (including a century). G Kamalini, who is third on the run-scoring charts with 135 runs in six innings, has stepped up with crucial performances in her last two knocks (51, 56*).  South Africa Skipper Reyneke has been leading from the front, making an impact with both bat and ball. She is currently the tournament’s third-highest wicket-taker with 10 wickets in five matches at an economy of 4.34. Her off-breaks will be crucial, especially on a surface that has assisted spin throughout the tournament. The pace duo of Monalisa and Nthabiseng Nini will also be key factors, having taken six wickets each so far. With the bat, Jemma Botha could be a threat to the Indian bowlers, given her attacking approach in the semifinal against Australia (37 off 24, SR 154.16). However, she struggled in the warm-up game against India, managing only a four-ball duck. The Proteas will be hoping she can replicate her semifinal heroics when it matters most.  Team India after their semi-final win (PC: T20WorldCup/X) Concerns India The only concern for them may be their middle order, which has not had enough game time in the middle throughout the tournament. In a high-pressure final, whether they are setting a target or chasing, if the in-form top order fails, the reaction of the middle-order batters will be crucial. So far, they have rarely been tested, losing just one wicket in three matches and two wickets in another. Their only real test came against Sri Lanka, where they lost nine wickets. South Africa They have played only the semi-final in Kuala Lumpur, whereas India have played all their matches there. This means the Proteas are less familiar with the conditions, having played the rest of their games in Kuching. Rain-affected matches also limited their batters’ opportunities to score big runs and build confidence. However, their composed chase of 106 runs in 18.1 overs against Australia in the semi-final will give them a huge boost. Ultimately, their bowlers will be key. If they do not step up, India might take control of the game with ease.     TRAILBLAZERS 3.0 (PC: File) India enter the final as favourites after their dominant performances throughout the tournament. However, South African cricket—both men’s and women’s—has seen a remarkable rise in the past few years. The senior women’s team reached the semi-finals of the 2022 ODI World Cup and finished as runners-up in the 2023 and 2024 T20 World Cups. Meanwhile, the men’s team made the semi-finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup and the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Despite coming close, they have yet to cross the finish line. Whether these young South African girls can finally break the jinx remains to be seen.
No Captains' Event Ahead of ICC Champions Trophy 2025
The Captains' Conference for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been canceled due to the delayed arrival of two participating teams. England and Australia will not arrive in Pakistan on time, leading to the cancellation of the traditional pre-tournament events, including the press conference with all eight captains and the official photoshoot.
India’s captain Rohit Sharma will not be attending the event in Karachi, dispelling earlier speculations. The delay is mainly due to England's ongoing tour of India, with the team set to arrive in Lahore on February 18, while Australia will land on February 19 following their series in Sri Lanka.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will begin on February 19, featuring 15 exciting matches across three venues in Pakistan (Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi) and Dubai. The tournament promises intense competition, including the highly anticipated clash between Pakistan and India on February 23 in Dubai.
