Hi :))))) I sqw poerr rangers on your fandom lost. If you could can you write some headcannons for being Kira Ford’s younger brother and both are rangers on the dino thunder team?
1. You and Kira have an unbreakable sibling bond, and being on the team together only strengthens it. You always have each other’s backs, whether it’s on missions or just dealing with everyday teenage struggles.
- Even though you’re her younger brother, you sometimes take on a protective role, always keeping an eye out for her in battle. She does the same, never letting her guard down if you’re in danger.
2. Kira loves to tease you in her big-sister way, whether it’s about your crushes, your fashion choices, or even how you fight. But it’s all in good fun, and you both share a lot of laughs.
- She might joke that she’s the “cooler Ford sibling,” but deep down, she’s incredibly proud of you and respects your abilities as a ranger.
3. Balancing being a student and a ranger is no easy feat, but you and Kira find ways to make it work. You both have a silent agreement to cover for each other if one of you gets called out on ranger duties during school.
4. Kira’s passion for music influences you, and she’s always encouraging you to try an instrument or sing along. Even if you’re hesitant, she insists on teaching you guitar chords or making you her “test audience” for new songs.
- In return, you might drag her into your hobbies, like gaming or sports. It becomes a fun sibling exchange that helps you both unwind from ranger responsibilities.
5. As a ranger, you both have your own unique abilities, but you work exceptionally well together in battle. You have a natural rhythm, almost anticipating each other’s moves, making you a formidable duo on the field.
6. Kira is a source of encouragement, always lifting you up when you doubt yourself. If you struggle with the pressure of being a ranger or the dangers involved, she’s there to remind you that you’re a part of something bigger and that you’ve got this.
- On tough days, you return the favor by helping her talk through her own fears or doubts, giving her the strength she needs to continue.
7. When training or sparring, you both can get competitive. It’s never mean-spirited, but it’s clear you’re both pushing each other to improve. She might take it a little easy on you but always praises you when you manage to best her in a move.
8. If one of you is injured or in danger, the other would go to any lengths to protect them, even if it means risking themselves. The team sees the sibling loyalty you both have, and it serves as an inspiration for everyone.
9. You and Kira have a treasure trove of inside jokes, ranging from memories as kids to ridiculous things that happen on missions. They’re little moments that remind you both of the close bond you share.
10. Kira often shares her dreams and aspirations with you, and seeing her passion inspires you to chase your own. She encourages you to never settle for anything less than your best, and you do the same for her, pushing each other to reach new heights.

SQW Day 4 - Operation Sparkle [Family Vacation]
My entry for day 4 of the Swan Queen Week, prompt “Family Vacation”. Usual disclaimer applies. Thanks for reading!
“Are you sure about this, Ma? So many things could go wrong! I mean, there’s a 95% probability Mom will catch on before you’re even halfway through with the plan. She’ll notice something’s up and the surprise is going to be ruined. Maybe you should go with something less over the top? Like dinner in a nice restaurant or a moonlit picnic, or even just a weekend in Vermont next Valentine’s day?”
Henry and Emma are sitting in Emma’s bug, speaking hurriedly to finish their talk before pulling up in their garage lane.
“No, Henry. It has to be huge. I want to do something nice for your mother, and I want it to be perfect. She deserves it. We just need to be better at hiding it than she is at sleuthing. That’s why I absolutely need your help. It’s essential that she thinks this vacation is your idea, okay? This way she shouldn’t be too suspicious and Operation Sparkle should be a success.”
Henry makes an uncertain pout but agrees nonetheless. That evening, over dinner, he pleads for a family vacation in Paris (“But Mom, none of us has ever been! It would be so great! And it would help me with my French!”), and he does his best to convince her. After a couple days of discussing it with Emma, Regina eventually agrees and the Swan-Mills family makes their reservations for the following spring.
As soon as they land in Paris, their vacation takes a magical turn. Regina has been slightly afraid of flying, but she’s thankfully gotten quickly over it. The three of them are immediately taken with everything they are seeing. Henry is snapping pictures like a madman, Emma is pointing at pretty much everything she sees and Regina’s eyes are glistening madly. As they get in the cab that’s driving them to their hotel, Regina leans over to Henry and thanks him for suggesting the trip. Henry smiles brightly and discretely winks at Emma, who stifles a laugh in a cough. The first step of the plan is completed: they’ve gotten Regina to Paris. They can now start the hardest part of their plan, which they only have a few days to complete.
The week they spend in Paris is wonderful by all aspects. They marvel at what they are seeing and they enjoy each other’s company even more than they do at home; Emma even jokes Parisians must put something in the water to make teenage boys less moody and small-town mayors less strict, and Regina and Henry both laugh at it happily. Henry takes his role in Operation Sparkle extremely seriously: whenever Emma gives him his designated and subtle signal, he distracts Regina by showing her yet another pigeon or asking for yet another delicious treat he’s just spotted in a shop. Regina doesn’t seem to notice Henry’s sometimes ridiculous attempts at getting her attention nor Emma’s odd lingering a couple of steps behind them; she looks so enamored with Paris absolutely nothing could phase her.
They go sightseeing, and they walk so much they drill a hole in the sole of their shoes and need to buy new ones; they find relatively cheap sneakers for the whole family in a chain store and throw their old shoes in the nearest trashcan, laughing madly at their misadventure. They go to Versailles and nearly get lost in the public transportation of the way there, and then they nearly get lost in the park and they end up having to ask a gardener for directions so they don’t get locked in the park. They go for a boat ride on the Seine, and it’s so wonderfully cliché but none of them could care less. They eat crêpes and croissants – Henry swears he’s become intolerant to any food that doesn’t come from a bakery – and any kind of pastry or cheese they can find. Regina insists to try a different wine every night, and Emma is all too happy to oblige; they even let Henry try cider one evening. They go to Montmartre and on the Grands Boulevards; they walk up and down the Champs-Elysées too many times to count; they wander around the Louvre for an entire day and Regina has tear in her eyes when she looks at Michelangelo’s statues of slaves because “Emma, they look so real! Someone made these, and it pretty much looks like they’re breathing”. They go up the Eiffel tower, and they come back later when the sun has set and the tower is lit, and Emma spins Regina around, dips her and kisses her deeply before grabbing Henry and hugging her girlfriend and her son with all her strength. They get their picture taken pretty much everywhere, and they buy the most ridiculous souvenirs (including a beret, an apron and a baguette-shaped bread knife for Snow). They even go to Disneyland, despite Regina’s reticence that they have exactly the same park at home, but when Emma and Henry put on their identical pouts and puppy eyes, she can’t deny them anything, and so they go to Disneyland and laugh at each other’s pretty miserable attempts to pronounce the French titles of the Disney movies, even though Regina and Emma are proud to notice Henry’s French accent has greatly improved since the beginning of the school year. They spend a week out of time, when all that matters is the fun they’ll have that day and the fascinating new things they’ll see.
Sadly, they have to leave Paris. They all get slightly teary-eyed (Henry included) when they leave their hotel and later on, when they have to board their plane, and they try to comfort each other by promising they’ll come back together someday. They return home and, even though they’re all happy to be back in their house and see their friends and family again, they can’t help but feel slightly nostalgic.
Emma, however, doesn’t have too much time to feel sorry: the second part of Operation Sparkle was a success, but she has to get to work and get part three done quickly.
The last part of her plan arrives in the mail on the last week of April. Emma gets the last details ready and tells Henry that they’ll get into the last phase of Operation Sparkle on the weekend. Henry high fives her, and he’s ridiculously chirpy the rest of the week.
When the day arrives, Emma makes sure the three of them won’t be disturbed. Right after breakfast, she hands Regina the photo album of their trip to Paris that she’s had printed and sent home over the week and, right as Regina starts flipping through the pages, Henry calls her from the other room to ask for her help over homework. Emma and Henry wait in the kitchen, nudging each other gently and stifling giggles, even though Emma is so nervous she might drop unconscious at any moment. Once Regina is edging the end of the album, they both discretely come back into the living room. Regina’s back is to them but that doesn’t change a thing, she’s so focused on the pictures she wouldn’t have noticed them anyway. When she turns the last page, she furrows her eyebrows for a second before gasping and covering her mouth with her hand. She turns around to find Emma on one knee, brandishing an engagement ring, and Henry beaming.
On the last double page of the album, Emma’s had special photos printed: during their whole trip in Paris, she’d taken pictures of letters wherever she could find them, on shop windows, on street signs, on banners or book covers, and she’d positioned them to spell “Regina, will you marry me?”. The gesture was outrageously romantic, but somehow it was so Emma: thoughtful, clever and incredibly loving.
Regina didn’t have to think for a second before saying yes and diving into Emma’s arms, with Henry cheering both of them on.

A hate-to-love fic. It starts rough:
*****
“Well, this is about as pleasant as I expected,” the woman continued. She reached down to grab a towel to angrily mop up paint from her ratty, white tank top and tight jeans with an indecent number of holes in them.
“Heard about the evil mayor, have you?” Regina snarled.
“Oh, you’re Mayor Mills? Then yeah, you sound like a treat.” The towel was tossed back on the ground as the woman returned stormy eyes to Regina’s. “But that’s not what I’m talking about, and you know it.”
Something dark drew Regina’s eyes briefly to the woman’s chest, now wiped partially clean of paint. Bold, black text snaked across the skin just above her breasts. Despite a couple of letters disappearing beneath tank top straps, the message was clear. Written in two sizable lines of ironically beautiful script were the words Regina had said only moments ago: What the hell is wrong with you?
Serves her right , she thought.

SQW Summer 2K18 Day 4
A shameless self-promotion of my Summer 2K15 prompt I did about True Love tattoos.
Links to my other SQW days: 1, 2, 3
MAJOR TRIGGER WARNING: self harm.
The first time flowers showed up on Emma’s body was when she was ten-years-old. Frightened, she asked her mother what it meant.
“Those flowers show you where your soulmate will have scars,” Mary Margaret told her. “The flowers will go away after awhile.”
“Why does she have scars on her body?” Emma asked.
She?” Mary Margaret asked.
Emma merely nodded.
Pulling herself together she told her daughter, “well, she’s probably an adventurer like you. Maybe she climbed a tall tree and fell.”
Emma nodded slowly. “I hope so.”
Mary Margaret wasn’t quite sure what Emma meant, but Emma was already back to reading her book.
***
As Emma grew, she received scars of her own, because like her mother always said-- she was an adventurer.
But they never matched the amount of flowers that came and went over her body.
The worst bout of flowers happened when Emma was sixteen. She was sitting at her desk doing her homework when rows and rows of overlapping flowers appeared on her left wrist. She pushed back from her desk and held her left wrist in her right hand, a few tears sliding down her cheeks.
Emma was never one to self harm-- she’d never even considered it-- but seeing those flowers was all too much. Her soulmate was in so much pain all the time and she knew it. Emma wished she knew who her soulmate was so she could talk to her, but the only thing tying them together was scars. So Emma did what she had to do to show her soulmate she was there.
Emma retrieved her pocket knife she always carried on her and cut a thin line on her left wrist over the amass of flowers.
Immediately the flowers stopped multiplying.
She went to get some gauze, content that her soulmate seemed to realize that she was there for her.
***
At twenty, Emma decided to get a tattoo on her left wrist. Her soulmate hadn’t cut in four years since the incident. She wanted something simple, just as a reminder.
While she was waiting in the tattoo parlor, a young brunette entered and sat near her.
“What are you getting?” Emma asked, trying to make conversation.
“A crown on my right shoulder to commemorate my dad,” she told Emma. “He always called me his princess.”
“That’s sweet.”
“What are you getting?”
“Well…” Emma hesitated to tell her soulmate’s business, but she figured it was alright-- she was proud. “About four years ago my soulmate was going through a rough patch. I just reminded her that I was there, even if she couldn’t see me. So I’m getting a flower tattoo on my left wrist.”
The other woman froze. “Did you… did you see flowers on your left wrist?”
Emma smiled sadly. “Yeah. I didn’t know what else to do to show I was there, so I just… I cut myself once to remind her she wasn’t alone.”
“That was you?” The brunette asked quietly.
Emma’s mouth dropped open and suddenly one scar in particular caught her eye. On her top lip was a small scar. Emma had had a flower there for a month.
“Twelve,” Emma whispered.
“What?”
“I was twelve when you got this,” Emma said, pointing to her lip.
“Regina,” the woman said. “My name is Regina.”
“Oh! Uh, right. I’m Emma,” she replied.
“Do you mind if I watch you get your tattoo done?”
“Nope. It’s for you, after all,” Emma said.
Regina blushed. “I’m sorry for that.”
Emma took her left wrist gently. “Don’t be sorry. I’m just so glad you’re here.”

Favorite Story You’ve Written So Far: Whispers in the Night. BUT ALSO MY ONE DEVIL WEARS PRADA FIC BECAUSE IT'S JUST A MASTERPIECE, SORRY I DON'T MAKE THE RULES.
Fic you’re nervous to post: All of them. We can all pretend we don't care about engagement but we all do. I remember when I uploaded the first chapter of WitN and my first review was a kind one and if I ever get to talk to that person I'd wanna thank 'm because if the first one had been a negative one, I probably would've yeeted it from AO3.
How do you choose your titles: Usually it's a lyric from a song that will hit something. I'm pretty sure Shadow Haven was born from a title generator where I just took two words and smashed 'm together. But it's been so long.
Do you outline: Never. I open a document and I start writing. I don't know where we're going, I don't know anything. One exception where with SH I had written the last line first. But yeah, no outlines for me.
Complete Fics: 20.
Do you accept prompts: Yeah, but if it doesn't spark anything it's hard for me to do anything with it. But I think some of my one shots were born from prompts and I like them, so can always give it a shot.
Upcoming Story You’re Excited to Write: Uhm. Any story. My current issue is that I don't really feel anything for any of my old fandoms anymore. So I am not super excited to write for them. There's also nothing on TV that makes me want to write for it. So I feel a bit stuck.
Stories You’re Excited to Read: Anything angst. There can never be enough angst. If there's no angst, I don't want it.
Tagging: @shadowdianne, @allaganexarch, @menzosarres =) I dunno man. Half of the time when I tag someone I think I'm bothering them, so you wanna do this, you go tell 'm I tagged you.

SQW day 4 - The color red (Soulmate AU)
Hey there! Here’s my contribution to day 4 of the Swan Queen Week, in which Emma & Regina live in some alternate universe where you’re supposed to find your soulmate at a very young age & know it’s true love at first sight. As usual, I own nothing but the next few paragraphs.
I hope you all enjoy it! And thank you for taking the time to read my work, it means a lot to me! :)
They say you know true love at first sight, because suddenly you can see the color red. At least that’s what I’ve been told my whole life. Mother also says everyone has this special someone waiting for them out there – their soulmate. I’m not too sure I believe her. I’m 21 now, and I’ve not yet met my person. I’m starting to think it’s not going to happen for me. When I met Daniel, I thought he was the one. When I realized he wasn’t, I still tried to make it work. We were together for two years before he died. Of course, I was heartbroken. I also started wondering if my own soulmate hadn’t died; it was the only reason I could think of why I still hadn’t met them when all my friends already had. Mother tried to comfort me and told me that when someone dies before meeting their soulmate, their connection to this person is somewhat reallocated.  But seeing Kathryn and Mal so happy with their better halves is slowly starting to drive me insane.
I have yet to see for myself what red looks like. It sounds beautiful, the way everyone speaks about it. Father said it’s so vibrant and warm, it’s like looking at love itself, if love was visible to the eye. I guess in some sense it is visible to the eye, otherwise we wouldn’t have all that red nonsense. Anyway, I’m tired of all of this. I want to meet my special someone. I hate that half of my wardrobe is this revolting shade of grey. I just can’t wait to start living my best life.
Regina closed the journal and slipped it back in her purse. She took a deep breath before emptying what little iced tea was left in her glass. She looked around at her surroundings. Moments like this were her favorite: after being so engrossed in her writing, she always felt so disoriented for a few minutes when she looked up and remembered she was in public. She was about to leave the small café where she loved spending her afternoons; it was a great place to observe people, which was key to Regina’s search for love. She had picked up writing on her various stake outs: she found it very relaxing, and over time she’d started dreaming about someday writing a bestseller.
Regina gathered her things and got up to leave. She’d barely made it out the door when she felt a hand grab her shoulder. She quickly whipped around.
A young woman was standing right behind her, apparently surprised at the hostile look on Regina’s face. She took a step back and slowly lifted her right hand.
“I’m sorry, I tried to call you but you didn’t hear. You forgot this at your table.” The young woman handed Regina her pen. Regina profusely thanked her; the pen had been a gift from her father, and she would have hated herself if she’d lost it.
The young woman – Emma, as it turned out – had a pretty smile and laughed easily. She kept running a hand through her blonde curls and was looking at Regina a little bit too intensely for the thoughts running through her mind to be completely platonic.
Emma’s cell phone suddenly chirped and both girls broke out of their pleasant conversation, still grinning widely. That was when Regina noticed a detail that almost caused her to drop dead from shock.
Emma’s jacket was a color she’d never seen before.
Seeing Regina’s face drain off all color, Emma took a step forward and placed a hand on her arm.
“Regina? Are you okay?”
“Your – your jacket – Emma, look at it!”
The blonde looked down at her sleeve. Her mouth gaped and her eyes went round.
“Is that…”
“Red?” Regina’s voice was no more than a squeak.
Emma looked up, her green eyes filled with shock. Slowly, a new emotion made her way across her features: she looked genuinely happy.
“Red really is a beautiful color, right? I didn’t really believe it before now, but they were right. It’s like-“
“Looking at love itself. It’s what my father always says.” Regina blurted out. She took a breath and shook her head, trying desperately to regain composure. “Emma, would you like to go for a drink? We should get to know each other better, I suppose.”
“You bet I would!” Emma turned around to open the door and let Regina in before her. As they both sat down, they couldn’t stop smiling.
They sat in comfortable silence for a few moments before Emma broke the silence.
“I have to say… Wow!”
Regina raised an eyebrow, suddenly worried that her soulmate would be incapable of speaking grammatically correct sentences.
“It’s probably gonna come out the wrong way, but… Wow, you’re really pretty.”
Regina started laughing, suddenly a little shy, and Emma quickly followed suite.
“Well, you’re really pretty too, Emma.”
They say you know true love at first sight, and they’re right. Seeing the color red is only the first step, though. When it’s true love, everything falls right together, and suddenly you can’t see yourself with anyone else, even if you’ve just met them a few minutes ago. That’s what it feels like with Emma. She’s brave and selfless in ways I could never be, and she makes me laugh. She has such a fresh outlook on life, and such optimism I sometimes envy her. She makes me feel loved and desired at all times, even that one time I was very sick, running a fever and vomiting on the hour every hour. We’ve only been together a few weeks, but she’s already made my life so much better. She’s worth every single year I spent looking for her, and now I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for the two of us.

SQW Day 4 “Family Vacations”
Emma couldn’t believe her ears, she’s heard Regina sing before but if she’s being honest then she’s heard more angelic sounds coming from a running garbage disposal. She loves her wife with every fiber of her being but that absolutely gorgeous specimen couldn’t sing to save their son’s life. Yet here she was, singing her beautiful heart out at a karaoke bar in Nashville, Tennessee quickly becoming the crowd favorite as they cheered her on. The only difference between now and the other times she’s listen to the brunette sing was that Regina was completely hammered. She was swaying from side to side trying to remain upright yet somehow able to perfectly belt out “Gunpowder & Lead”. Emma really wasn’t a fan of country music but knew not to say it around these parts as she was afraid to be hanged for treason.
Finally the Queen’s song was over and Emma jumped on stage and took her hand to guide her off, fearing that if she wasn’t quick enough Regina’s newly acquired fans would beg for yet another encore. They’d already been trapped in there way longer than originally planned and Henry was getting restless, so she ignored the mayor’s feeble attempts to go back and lead them out onto the street.
“Finally! We’ve been in there forever, Ma.”
“Sorry, Kid. Your Mother’s unexpected performance threw me for a loop.”
“Yeah what’s with that? I thought Mom couldn’t sing.”
“Maybe she’s been taking lessons?”
“Ma, you and I both had to suffer in the car on our way over here. I think it’s safe to say that no lessons are involved.”
“Em-ma.” The older woman slurred out.
“Yes?”
“Are you from Tensee cuz you’re the only ten I see!”
“What?”
“I think she’s trying to flirt with you. Gross. Anyway, I have a theory on why Mom can all of a sudden sing like a professional.”
“What’s your theory?”
“Have you ever heard of Lee Hadwin?”
“Who?”
“He’s a pretty well known artist but only received media wide attention because of his bizarre story. He claims that he can’t draw while awake, he creates his art while he’s in a subconscious state. He’s had a bunch of tests done on him but no one’s been able to figure out why he could only do it while asleep.”
“And you’re thinking your Mom is the same way with her singing except she needs to be drunk?”
“Yep.”
“We’ve seen weirder things so I’m not even gonna question it.”
“Escuse me, Miss but do you need help makin your way back to heaven? I promise I can take you higher than you’ve been.” Emma didn’t know whether to blush or laugh at her Wife’s attempt at drunken flirting.
“Ma, can we head over to the comic book store now?”
“Yeah, Hen lead the way.” The sheriff wrapped her arm around her wife’s waist to hold her steady. Other than a few stumbles they made it outside their son’s chosen destination just fine. “We’re gonna wait out here if that’s alright kid. I don’t think it’s a good idea for her to be in there with all those valuable and breakable objects and I don’t trust that she won’t wander off if left alone.” She brings the Queen to a nearby table and manages to get her to sit down in a chair.
“We should’ve brought a leash.” The blonde snorted at her son’s shit eating grin and slapped the table top in mock frustration.
“I knew we forgot something!”
“I’m going inside now. I’ll try not to take too long.”
“Take as long as you need, Kid. I think your Mom and I are benched for the night so we’re fine just hanging out here until you’re done.” Her son’s eyes grew brighter as his smile grew bigger at the news of being able to explore the store and everything in it at his own pace.
“Thanks, Mom!” Her heart warms as she watches her, not so little anymore, boy take off towards the store in obvious excitement.
“Hey there pretty lady, what’s a beautful girl like you doin in a place like thiss?”
Deciding to play along, the Sheriff answers, “I’m just out here on vacation.”
“Sshame such a breathtaking woman is single.” The blonde can’t hold her laughter back anymore as the Mayor tries to wiggle her eyebrows in what she probably things is in a seductive manner.
“Actually, I’m in a very committed and loving relationship.” Her voice takes on a teasing tone but is immediately alarmed when her lover begins to actually shed some tears. “Regina, Honey, what’s wrong?”
“I missed my chance!”
“Chance for what!?” She knew the other woman was drunk but seeing her upset always put Emma into a slight panic.
“To be with you!” The older woman covers her face with her hands.
“Regina, We’re already married!” and just like that her wife looks up with little evidence of her previous fit and begins to laugh loudly and obnoxiously.
“OH YEAH!!” and damn her Emma laughs along just as noisy and annoying, receiving dirty looks along with some concern over the two women who seemingly lost their minds.

SQW Summer 2K17 Day 4
Family Vacation
“We have to go somewhere near the ocean that isn’t Maine,” Henry demanded.
“Why does it have to be near the ocean?” Regina asked, not looking up from her research.
The Swan-Mills trio had decided that now, after Gideon and the Black Fairy have been neutralized, was the time for a family vacation. Henry knew that his mom had a type: blonde, athletic, and someone good with kids. Ma had all three going for her, but sometimes being the Sheriff of a small town didn’t exactly give her a chance to showcase her athleticism.
“He found out I can surf,” Emma told her casually, as she leafed through a guidebook for Michigan.
This stopped Regina in her tracks. “You can surf?” she asked, trying to sound just as casual.
“Mhm.”
“Well then, maybe Henry is right,” Regina suggested.
Emma looked up from her guidebook. “Are you serious?”
“It might be refreshing to see a side of the ocean that isn’t bleak all the time,” Regina told her, feigning innocence.
Henry smirked, knowing that his plan was working already.
***
After several hours of driving to New York and twelve and a half hours on a plane--complete with an almost-nervous breakdown from Regina-- the family finally touched down in Kailua. Though Henry didn’t like to see his mom upset or scared, but he didn’t mind seeing her reach out for support from Emma during the flight.
He definitely knew things might spark between his moms when they barely put up a fight about having to share a bed, while he got his own.
“The kid kicks in his sleep, Regina.”
“Well then we’ll just have to share.”
The beach was on the agenda for the next day. To avoid being in the water--and to have a prime view of Emma--Regina said she wanted to rest up on the beach.
Emma put on her surf shirt and hit the waves. Henry had to admit, she wasn’t bad at all for being an ametuer. She wouldn’t win any contests or anything, but she wasn’t constantly falling.
About half an hour into their beach time Emma jogged up to the towel where Regina was supposedly reading.
“You coming in?” she asked.
“I’m enjoying the sun,” Regina replied.
“I can teach you,” Emma offered. “I’m no expert, but I think I can give you a few pointers.”
Henry, who had come back to shore for a bottle of water, could see the wheels turning in Regina’s mind.
“Alright, we’ll see what kind of teacher you are, Ms. Swan.” She put her book down and Henry took her spot on the towel to watch the events unfold.
He watched her explain everything and even do a few example runs for Regina, but it was when Emma got into Regina’s personal space that he detected the change in body language. Regina became more nervous until Henry saw Emma say something to her.
Out in the water, Emma was telling Regina to relax.
“Relax, there’s nothing to be afraid of. I’m right here if anything happens,” Emma told her.
“You promise?” Regina asked.
Emma nodded and gave Regina’s hand a squeeze.
“I’ll always be here for you.”

SQ Week Day 4: Illness
I really struggled with coming up with something that wasn’t going to be super tragic and epic in length, so instead I’ve ended up with this fluffy little thing. Enjoy!
Oh, and I’ve included ff.net and Ao3 links if you want them, otherwise just read it below the “read more” cut.

The only thing I can think of for a trigger warning is that there is talk of cancer (uterine, to be exact). Please don't let that scare you off unless it's a touchy subject for you, no one is dying in this fic!
“What do you mean you have cancer?!” Emma shrieked, sitting bolt upright from what had been an extraordinarily comfortable position resting her head in the crook of Regina’s neck, lightly running her fingers over the bare flesh of her stomach. It had been the perfect, relaxing morning until she’d slid her finger over a small scar low on Regina’s abdomen and found herself asking ‘What’s this from?’ The last thing she’d expected to come out of Regina’s mouth, especially in that nonchalant tone of voice, was 'My hysterectomy.“
"Not have, Emma, had. I had cancer.” Regina remained where she was, reclining on the bed with her head propped up just so against a pillow and the headboard. She was looking at Emma like she was blowing things entirely out of proportion, though her expression softened a bit as Emma’s lower lip began to quiver.
"But, you just said you had your uterus removed because of uterine cancer? How does that not mean that you have cancer?“ Emma was rocked back on her knees now, hands gripping her thighs with white knuckles. Somewhere in the back of her mind it occurred to her that this was an awkward conversation to be having while completely naked, but at the moment she needed answers.
"Yes, I had my uterus removed, and yes I had cancer, but I’ve been free of it for almost 25 years now.” Her voice had turned soothing and soft in a way that had been reserved for only Henry until very recently.
           "Are you sure?“
"I’m sure. I go back to Boston every 5 years for a check-up now, but I was lucky, we caught it just early enough and the surgery was quite successful.”
Emma let out a long breath, her shoulders relaxing ever so slightly before something occurred to her and her face creased in concern once more.
"If you’ve been better for almost 25 years, and Storybrooke has only been around for 30, when were you diagnosed?“ There was more than a little trepidation in her voice, like she wasn’t sure she wanted to think about what the answer would mean.
"6 months after we arrived.” Now it was Regina’s turn to sound uncomfortable, the memory of it all something she had purposely pushed from her mind as best as she could. Emma sucked in a breath and bit down on her bottom lip, one hand reaching out for Regina’s and twining their fingers together.
"Alone? You went through that alone, didn’t you?“ Regina’s silence was all the answer Emma needed. "Shit Regina. I can’t even imagine. How did you even find out? Did you know you were sick when you cast the curse or…?” She trailed off, lost in the possibilities. Regina closed her eyes for a moment, gathering her courage in order to open up to Emma. She understood why Emma had questions, why she needed to know. It was just that she’d never, ever, had anyone care to ask, or really care at all.
"No, I didn’t know I was sick before the curse. Quite frankly, I’m pretty sure I wasn’t.“ Emma looked confused again. "You know how I told you that I can’t have children?” Emma nodded. “Well that’s been true since long before this” She gestured to her scars. “Back in the Enchanted Forest my mother attempted to manipulate me into carrying an heir and I realized that she would take any child of mine and corrupt them the way she did me. To prevent that I took a potion that rendered me sterile.”
Emma was horrified, but kept her lips sealed tightly, allowing Regina to continue. Her next words were so soft Emma almost couldn’t hear them, as if Regina was speaking to no one but herself, letting a quiet afterthought slip out, eyes lost somewhere over Emma’s shoulder.
"I regretted doing that every single day, until Henry.“ Eyes refocusing, clearing her throat and looking slightly unsettled by her admission, she continued. "I believe it was something to do with that very potion that caused my cancer. I never entirely understood how it worked, magically I mean, but I think that, when I came to a world without magic, the damage I’d done to my uterus morphed into cancer. I knew something was wrong when I started bleeding. I hadn’t, you see, not since I’d become sterile. It took a few years, between the surgery and chemotherapy, but then I was in remission, and I have been ever since.”
"Regina…I’m so sorry. You must have been terrified.“ Emma’s grip tightened on the hand she held in hers, squeezing just enough to show her support, just enough to try to communicate that she wasn’t going to let go.
           "I was. I really was.”
"No one should have to go through that, nevermind alone. That’s just not right.“ The conviction in her voice was touching, and Regina gave Emma a rueful smile in response.
"I’d been alone for a long time, Emma, I didn’t expect anything else.”
"That doesn’t make it right Regina. You didn’t deserve that.“
"Didn’t I? After everything I’d done, didn’t I deserve at least that?” Emma’s free hand rose to cup her cheek,
"No. You didn’t.“ The green eyes burning into her own were clear, the sheer volume of Emma’s belief in her made her heart clench.
"I love you.” Regina’s voice was a cracked whisper, followed by an uneasy chuckle as she attempted to pull herself together and regain her composure. Emma’s wide lips blossomed into a sparking smile.
"I love you too.“ With a gentle tug on their linked hands, Regina pulled Emma back down to her earlier position, helping her settle in comfortably and placing a kiss onto the top of blond hair. Before she let herself succumb once more to the peace she felt whenever she was in Regina’s arms like this, Emma lifted her head and regarded her seriously.
"You’re sure you’re not sick?” Her voice sounded years younger, a childhood haunted by loss creeping into her throat.
"Yes Emma, I’m sure I’m not sick.“ Her fingers slid into Emma’s hair and applied just enough pressure to lead her head back down against her chest.
"Mmmm, okay.” Emma nuzzled against her, almost completely relaxed once more, before popping her head back up. “But Regina?”
           "Yes dear?“
"If you were sick, if you get sick again, you won’t be alone. Not anymore, not ever. I promise.” Tears immediately filled Regina’s eyes, cresting over her lashes and tumbling down her cheeks. Without waiting for a response Emma leaned in to press the lightest of kisses to Regina’s lips and then tucked herself back down, wrapping an arm across Regina’s waist and tangling their legs together. Regina allowed the tears to fall, a look of wonder on her face as her fingers absentmindedly stroked through Emma’s hair, marveling-not for the first time-at how incredibly, unbelievably, astonishingly wonderful her life had become.
