i know there’s more than this out there but it really is incredible that people will look at a fictional character someone else wrote and collectively say “I will write you a hundred happy endings.”

Republicans not wanting to fund libraries is part of their plan to make the next generation illiterate. That is why they are banning books too.

Readers, make sure you have all your favourite Ao3 fics downloaded.
Writers, make sure you have copies of all the fics you have posted on Ao3.
I don’t want to be alarming, but things could get really bad really fast. OTW shared this today on Twitter, and I'm a bit worried about it 😅
Ao3 is a non-profit organisation. If they have to start paying taxes, I have no idea what will happen.

I was rambling on the issue of museums and human remains and how certain populations are more likely to have their bodies put on display to be gawked at and then went "well I guess the Pompeii casts were of Europeans. there are bones in there right?" and Googled it to make sure, at which point I confirmed that yes there are bones in there, but more interestingly DNA testing revealed that a cast of an adult holding a child everyone assumed was a mother and child were, in fact, a man and a kid entirely unrelated to him. Honestly that's more moving to me. Maybe they were connected in a way other than blood, but maybe a stranger saw a child when the world was ending and thought the one thing he could do was hold them.

oh by the way, in Danish, "fag" means "subject" and "slut" means "end" so on library shelves you will see "fag slut" to note where the break in book topics is

Unironically the biggest death knell I heard for twitter was the fact that, as far as anyone is aware, there are no longer any furries working at twitter.

via Instagram The youngest member of New Zealand’s parliament, Māori Party MP Hana-Rawhiti Kareariki Maipi-Clarke, started a haka to protest the first vote on a proposed law that would re-interpret New Zealand's founding legal document. The Treaty Principles Bill was introduced by the leader of the libertarian ACT party, David Seymour, and would redefine how New Zealand interprets the Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti o Waitangi), which was signed in 1840 between the British Crown and more than 500 Māori chiefs. Under the proposed changes, the New Zealand government would have "full power to govern" and make laws "in the best interests of everyone", while also promising to "respect and protect" the rights of Māori under the treaty "at the time they signed it". Maipi-Clarke was suspended from parliament and her behaviour was called disrespectful and grossly disorderly by the speaker.
I love not just the open defiance of colonial rhetoric, but the solidarity of her party members and allies in parliament to rise to the occasion and join her. Literally in most cases!
