i, like every other fic author in existence, love getting comments from people who enjoyed my work. i don't care if your comment is "late" (that's so weird to me like it's literature—do you apologize to homer for being late to reading the odyssey?) or "unintelligible" (late night commenters, english language learners, people who feel like they "just aren't that good with words", believe me, i entirely understand what you mean and appreciate it immensely), or anything else that you feel might make your comment 'not good enough'. i love all of the comments i receive and i am eternally grateful to all of you for your continued support.

and yeah, i've read fics where i felt like adding a comment would be doing the fic a disservice because there was nothing that could be said that wouldn't cheapen or patronize the magnum opus i'd just witnessed. in instances like this, that is exactly what i say in the comment: "there's nothing i can say that doesn't do this work of art a disservice. thank you for writing this."

actually, now that i think about it, there are a bunch of ao3 comments i've gotten that i still haven't replied to because i felt any thanks i could give would be inadequate. i should really get around to replying because i want them to know how spellbound they left me. i love you all, have i ever mentioned that?

all of that being said, i would like to make a public service announcement!

at least under default settings, ao3 authors do get notified every time you edit a comment. i've accidentally hit send too early before, or realized i forgot something i wanted to say, i get it, i really do. i have edited many comments in my day.

but you don't have to do this. really, it's okay. most of the time i honestly can't tell what the difference is. i'm not going to think worse of you for having typos in your comments because i guarantee that there were more in the fic you just read sfkljghsl

also these edits were over the course of twenty full minutes. i got another email while writing this post and had to update the image. please do not spend 20 minutes agonizing over your comment and changing the capitalization and adding a few words. it's okay, i promise. i love your comment, and i'm very very grateful for it, regardless of how "polished" it is. i'm not your english teacher in disguise.

Hey all! I come bearing somewhat incoherent LU character analysis spam I don’t know what to do with. I just love these lads and love thinking about them and their motives, strengths and quirks.

Hyrule - undervalues himself like someone else I know too well… It’s not that he’s bad at what he does, he just “knows” that most could do it better. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t try though. Confident in his abilities as a fighter, in the ways he knows how at least. Has a more subtle snarky side and doesn’t take himself too seriously. Has a desire to help anyone and everyone. Understands found family far too well, as he’s kinda adopted the whole county of Hyrule. Friends with both princesses, maybe more with one of them someday (she do be kinda cute.) Or maybe will just travel and adventure his whole life, he feels like that’s what he’s best cut out for anyhow. Works hard, tries every method until something works, more savvy than he’s given credit for.

Hi ! I've just answered 2 here already, so here we go for the two others !

5 : What do you like most about your own writing?

The first thing I thought about was how naturally it comes to me. Once I have an idea, I get writing, and it's rare for me to get stuck ! If I have so many wips, it's mostly because I have too many ideas and abandon the oldest ones 😅

But if it was about the style or from an external point of view, well, I don't know ! Maybe the dialogues ? I like writing dialogues, and they sound natural enough, I think !

8 : What creator does your favorite portrayal of your favorite character? How do they do that?

Huh, that is too hard of a question ! My favorite character is Legend, and there's definitely many great pieces of writing featuring him...

I absolutely adored him in This is an Adjuration by Not-freyja ! remember that I soon as he appeared, I was thinking, yes, that's my boy ! His portrayal just hit all my little happy brain spot. He does suffer a lot, though. But that is kind of positive in my book

Oh, but I feel like I have to mention To Isolate by Sky-Squido and Poltageist (Poltea) ! I read it a year ago when I was just starting to be in the fandom, and I started the fic by always mixing Legend and Hyrule up (because they were from games I hadn't played and I have a bad memory), and somehow I came out of my read with my current love for Legend. It is a Sky-centric fic, and a pretty heavy one, so proceed with caution ! I don't remember it very well, though, but I remember that Sky and Legend's relationship had my heart, and that something by the end of the fic made me very angry at Legend because of it... But I'll stop there !

But really, I'm not difficult. Even if he is out of character, if the writers make him have a reason for the way he acts (making him paranoid, giving him more traumas...), I'll enjoy it !

There are way too many so here is my favorite fics collection on ao3, all amzing for completely different reasons

Act natural by galactic fire has me laughing hysterically every single time i read it. Probably my favorite ravioli fics, i love them so much

Fitted ever for tender love by @1000dactyls is a transfemme legend fic and it is written wonderfully, it explores character relationships in different ways with different meanings which is so interesting, especially legend's feelings towards marin being seen in a different light. The scene where legend realises she's a girl is written beautifully with how freeing and amazing it is

What hyrule hadn't seen by @sky-squido one of the first lu fics ive read. It explores emotions and relationships in such a good way, as well as took me for such an unexpected ride. It was written so well as to make me also feel the same blindness as legend and feelings of everyone involved. Good angst, whump, fluff and some crack all mixed in.

Honorable mentions: scales wings and mythical things, sheharazade, while you still can, their melody, the wondrous sword of legend, eventide island for being some of my absolute favorites (including some others in that collection) ive adored all of these fics and have gone back to read them all multiple times

16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?

I think about four im nurturing/thinking about seriously, as well as a handful that i thought of forever ago but dont really care about anymore.

Pink bunny, brown is about bunny legend getting chased by a monster, hiding in a burrow with another bunny that gets injured when they try to protect eachother and when he gets found and turned back, nurses the bunny back to health and adopts it

Otherwise the other ones are just the next chapters to fics i already have the first chapter uploaded: that one pinkie fic, old friend and all's been said (my first loz fic)

I think I mentioned The Aviary the last time someone asked me this so I'll go with What Hyrule Hadn't Seen by one of my most favorite writers ever Squido. If you haven't read it please go do so it's some very good Hyrule and Legend angst featuring a blind Legend. It really is such a good story, Squido has a way with words I'm telling you please go read!!!!!

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?

With reading it depends on the fandom I guess, as a whole I'm such a sucker for the fake dating AUs/ idiots to lovers--bonus points if it' enemies-to-idiots-to-lovers

With writing I don't know why but recently I've become really attached to platonic affection and comfort. Tell your friends you love them cowards, give them all the hugs and maybe a kiss on the top of their head, hold their hand too

Feeling the need to reblog because I actually love the first Ice Age film a lot and while those quiet, somber moments are certainly a big deal, and I love the sequence where Manny returns the child to his father, and the father gives Manny the mother’s necklace.... @sky-squido said it super well. I was never really able to quantify my feelings on the movie, and all your points really hit the proverbial nail the head. So thank you for that!

I think a lot about how in Ice Age 1 a huge theme is the slow but unstoppable advancement of the human species as they start to threaten previously unchallenged megafauna (hunting the pack of the antagonist sabertooth and killing Manny the mammoth’s family) and then in all the sequels they just fuckin disappear

How did you develop your art style?

Lots of trial and error, I still have a lot I switch between depending on my mood or level of effort. Yap session incoming.

For my very low effort days, the little chibis started as in class doodles from really basic shapes (where, in my normal more 'anime' style that's more lines and flow). It's not something I ever really studied in particular

A step above that in effort is the sort of sticker style I like to call it. Still half colored but not as simple as the chibis. This is anything from like my twitter banner to my youtube logo. This started around 2022 when I was super into like twitch emotes? I wanted to be able to use my drawings as emotes in my own servers and to make emotes for others and to a degree I achieved this! I have my own private server where I have my own emotes and a couple public servers where they're emotes as well.

I also have that sort of fully fledged chibi style (see : my squido and catc drawing). Generally, I don't draw like that. The simplistic shading is a haunt from my general lack of rendering skill and practice and the messy lines a callback to my lack of confidence with rounder styles. I love the way that piece turned out, but I think it'll stay a spur of the moment thing. Those rounder styles and cartoonish features are much easier learned in modern day art classes of character design and things like that, of which I have no experience. My only classical teaching has been in line and form.

I also have that reused 0.5 head base I do often. I've fallen put of practice recently (mostly because it's not aa funny as it used to be) but it's a nice callback to freedom and messiness in my pieces. I enjoy the stylized lack of linearity, but not so much the insults I've gotten on pieces like that.

Then there's my sort of 'finished piece' style. I do not like this, I hate forcing myself to finish a piece, knowing I'm going to want to finish it makes me want to finish it quicker and thus I rush the whole thing. Generally the only few pieces I've ever finished and enjoyed have been jokes or my current twitter pfp. The art isn't about the final product, but more the process. If you make something and loved it the whole way through you'll never feel a sense of resentment towards your work.

This leads me to my main style. I love the black and white, I love the sketchiness. I just have fun making something instead of doing it because I have to. I struggle with the daily accounts I'm a part of because of that necessity to draw, but it's still important practice. To be honest, this style could use the practice. I'm slowly refining my practice into something thats visible (god knows I overused thin lines back in the day) as well as something with flow and form. I suffer a huge disconnect between parts brcause I hyperfixate and overwork one bit of a drawing, so I've been trying to avoid that as much as possible too. Overall I still want to play with lineweight more (like in 001) and I want to stay away from thinner lines (003). I think 002 showcases the overwork in the earring well too. Eventually when I'm happy with my style (preferably with cleaner lines than 001 but with the same line weight and general thickness, as well as in full black and white or very small accent color) I'd like to work my serialized pieces into designs for tarot cards.

TLDR; Draw lots. Learn the basics before you try to develop a style, learn what differentiates styles with flow and form and line from shape and color. From there on just do what you think is best, find what you don't like in your art, and violently murder it.

I FINALLY BEAT THE BOSS OF THE SECOND DUNGEON IN OOA (which means i got past that room i was stuck on, thank u @pacicidal and @elegantcollectionkoala)

since i'm playing virtual console, i used a lot of save states to warp back to right before the fight to save time on retries and i've never used save states like this before so i had this really weird time loop sense like those fics where a character is trying something over and over again (of course, i would never write something like that) and it was interesting to see what conditions i set for myself to warrant a reset and experiencing the feeling of jumping back into the fight right after the start of the death animation played with new knowledge about how the fight would go down, but refreshed health and bombs, while the boss has no idea who i am and is seeing me for the first time. it just. it's giving me thoughts and feelings about time loops but this time with legend sklfjghsdfgkjsdf squido don't do it don't you dare

anyway i also beat twilight princess!!! (finally) i LOVE LOVE LOVE when you power up the master sword with the sol's in the twilight realm BECAUSE THE GLOW IS SO PRETTY DUDE THE LIGHTING ON THIS GAAAAAME but also i feel like coming back to this game, especially after screwing around in botw, it really hits me how they do a really great job of making the master sword feel like a total light saber and i am HERE for it!! you just feel so strong and powerful, and after having been so weak at the beginning of the game, having to smack things with your wooden stick and it taking forever to kill bokoblins with the ordon sword, just plowing through baddies is SO satisfying.

BUT THEN ALSO IT'S NOT JUST PLOWING THROUGH BADDIES BECAUSE THE COMBAT IS SO GOOD instead of just mashing Y, you're doing back slices and shield bashes and helm splitters and it's so much more fun and engaging and you feel SO COOL pulling it all off and aaaaah i love this game and how STRONG it makes you feel after working so hard to build up all these heart containers and learn all these skills and get and strengthen the master sword. what an adventure.

AND THE PUZZLES DUDE I DIDN'T WANT THE HYRULE CASTLE DUNGEON TO END it was just a playground of puzzles with all my items and shooting the paintings off the walls? clawshotting to the grates on lamps and chandeliers? i feel like this game perfected the art of observation-based puzzles. i feel like so many of the puzzles in this game amount to looking around, looking around differently (as a wolf, from different angles, with different items in mind, reexamining your surroundings and looking for new ways to interact with them) and i LOVE it!! i feel so clever when i finally spot The Thing that i was looking for and i usually endure zelda dungeons to get to the bosses and the story, but this is definitely the most fun i've ever had in zelda dungeons outside of link between worlds. i honestly believe the reason nintendo has deviated from their standard dungeons/items formula and has no intention of returning to it is that twilight princess PERFECTED IT in 3D so they have to try something else now (this is also why i think we haven't gotten a new traditional 2D zelda game in so long—albw perfected 2D zelda dungeon design).

BUT YEAH THEN THE ENDING OF COURSE RIPPED MY HEART OUT OF MY CHEST BECAUSE WHY WOULDN'T IT AND I WILL BE THINKING NONSTOP ABOUT HOW LINK RIDES OFF ON EPONA AND THEN STOPS YES I KNOW IT WAS ORIGINALLY A MISTAKE BUT THEY KEPT IT IN THE HD VERSION SO IT'S CANON NOW, BABY

woah, that’s so cool! and why YES, person who is definitely not me, i would be delighted to do so! first i went insane for several months calculating exactly where and when every 3D zelda game takes place using the motion of the sun!

Cool! So it’s the autumnal equinox at a latitude of 35°N and longitude secretly doesn’t actually matter. Because of reasons, if we know where we are and when we are, we can figure out exactly what they sky should be doing! Right now we just need to figure out exactly when it is, because stars are speedily little guys!

I wanted this picture to take place at sunset, so first we had to figure out when sunset would be at this latitude on the equinox. Time to crack open your Nautical Almanac! Remember, we’re at 35°N.

Cool, sunset’s at 18:00 (6:00pm for everyone who does time wrong), which makes sense, because equinox. Anyway, now that we know what time it is, we can figure out where in the sky Aries is. What’s Aries? Great question—the stars move a lot and it would be really really exhausting and inefficient to write exactly down where they all are every hour of every day like they do for the sun, moon, and planets. To save space, the astronomy people were like “hey! the stars all move together, cuz like constellations are fixed shapes that don’t visibly wobble ever. What if we just picked one point in the sky and put a pin in it and then just kept track of where that specific spot was at every hour of every day. Then we could just have a separate table for how far away every star is from that point, but that second table won’t really change basically so it’d be super efficient cuz we’re only keeping track of one point in the sky instead of all fifty-nine-ish navigational stars.” and then they did.

so here’s a table for what the greenwich hour angle of Aries is at (almost) every hour of this particular day! 268°23.0′ looks like the magic number, folks! (it’s actually ~270°, because the equinox was on thursday, but the table for thursday didn’t have a header and i wanted you guys to see the header so pretend this screenshot is the right date okay)

what’s a greenwich hour angle, why is it relevant, and how is it different from the local hour angle you’re about to talk about, you may ask? it doesn’t actually matter right now because longitude is fake—just pretend GHA and LHA are the same thing for this particular bout of shenanigans.

so now that we know where in the sky Aries is at this particular moment in time, let’s crack open Volume 1 of the Aeronautical Navigation Sight Reduction Tables and scroll down to the entry for 35°N!

great! all we have to do now is go to the appropriate row for our LHA (270°) and scoot along. look at all those stars! look at where they are! wow!

basically under every star name, there’s a number written out like 27°17′, which is the star’s altitude, or how high above the horizon it is. the next number, 166 for example, is the compass heading you’d have to face to see the star. they’re like sky coordinates! since the sun’s setting exactly due west, because it’s the equinox, let’s look at all the stars just south of west, since they’ll be the ones in view. west is 270 and south is 180, so Nunki, Antares, and Arcturus look like they’re what we want! let’s check the navigational star chart in the back of the Nautical Almanac!

ooh, prebby! and there are Antares, Arcturus, and Nunki! We can also see Altair, who according to the table above is pretty high in the sky, so that’s gonna help orient us. i then opened my art program and sketched out approximately where Nunki, Antares, and Arcturus should appear to be, given the field of view and the coordinates from the table. then i just overlayed the star chart and lined up all the important ones—briefly sticking my star chart on the wrong layer, giving us the beautiful clickbait image pictured very far above. but yeah, from there it was just a matter of tracing all the other dots!

I’ve read so many of your stories and they’re so amazing. Other than actually seeing the comics by JoJo, your writing is actually what got me into Linked Universe. I still read it and love it so much. To Isolate really gave me feels. I wanted to cry, laugh, and punch Legend.
