Sprung | Sam and Colby Story
Title: Sprung
Summary: They had never been torn apart like that before.  Nobody had ever dared try it.
Pairing: None
Warnings: Sam and Colby’s arrest rehashed, brief talk of the jail system, mentions of anxiety
Author’s Note: This is based on an ask someone sent me last night, about how Sam being one who bottles his emotions up until they explode in these sweeping declarations of love and tears.  Also, since it’s the jailaversary, and I always wanted to hear more about that saga from Sam’s POV, I just went ahead and did...this. I’m not a writer, so don’t judge me too harshly-but I’d love to know if you liked!
A/N 2: Now on AO3!
***
Sam has never seen a better sight than a disheveled, tired Colby Brock waiting for him outside of the police station.
The preceding 14 hours since Sam had last watched Colby disappear behind an ominous steel door with a painful smirk forced across his face and a tremor in his handcuffed hands had been some of the worst he had ever experienced in his life.  He had stood outside the police station in the muggy Florida air with no cell phone, no car, no idea of where he was or how to get to where he needed to be.
No Colby at his side.
They had never been torn apart like that before.  Nobody had ever dared try it.  Sam felt like a piece of him had been taken; a fundamental piece, like his liver or some shit.  He felt wrong in his skin without Colby by his side; especially knowing where he had left him, and that all of the responsibility of getting him out of there rested on his shoulders.
To say Sam was stressed, would be an understatement.
But Sam was nothing if not determined, and he made it work.  He sucked in a breath, steeled his spine, and made his way to a gas station pay phone to call the Irelands.
He had work to do.
***
Fourteen hours and multiple phone calls to worried parents and terrified friends and one extremely exasperated lawyer (”On a construction site in Florida? Sam...”) and management team later, Sam was finally told that Colby’s bail had been posted and he was being released.  Sam could go and get him.
He was never planning on letting anyone separate them like that again.
“Hey,” Colby muttered as Sam walked up to where he sat with a couple of fans outside the doors to the precinct, bail paperwork and a bag of his possessions in his shaking hand.  He looked distinctly un-Colby like at the moment; rattled, definitely and it showed.  He was pale, his hair was in a state of disarray, his Justin Bieber shirt-and God, who else but Colby would go to jail in a Justin Bieber fit?-was wrinkled and stretched at the collar.  He had a smile plastered to his face, but his eyes were shining bright with barely concealed anxiety.  He wanted out of this place, asap.
Sam let out the breath he had been holding since Colby had first been walked away from him by those damn guards.  He felt the missing piece of his soul settle back in to place.  His world realigned itself.
Colby was back with him.
“Hey,” he responded back, and held out a hand to take Colby’s possession bag for him.  “Ready to head out?”
“Totally.”
***
After saying goodbye and taking a photo with the fans who had waited outside the police station with Colby, they got back in the rental car that Sam had gone to pick up from the abandoned school a few hours earlier and headed back towards the hotel.
“So, the fans said that everyone knows?” Colby asked quietly from the passenger seat.  His ring-less hands were flexing in his lap.  His voice was shaking.
Sam gripped the steering wheel a little tighter and cleared his throat.  “Um, yea,” he responded slowly.  “Yea, they found out and made it trend on twitter for like, a whole day.  Number one trending topic,” he added.
Colby whistled.  “Shit.”  He reached up to play with his earring-a nervous habit he had developed since getting his ears pierced the year prior-and winced when he realized the earring was no longer there.  His hand fell back to his lap, trembling.
“Yea,” Sam replied.  “By the time I got out last night, word was already everywhere.”  He swallowed and briefly glanced over at Colby.  “Our parents already knew.”
Colby glanced back.  “Did you talk to them?” He whispered.
Sam nodded.  “I talked to your mom, too.  Told her I wasn’t gonna let you rot in a jail cell.  She made me promise to get you out,” he smiled.  Colby didn’t smile back. “Dude, she’s ok, I promise.  Just worried about you.”
“She’s not mad?” Colby asked in a small voice.
“I mean, probably, but...” Sam shrugged.  Colby said nothing else.  What else was there to say?
The rest of the drive was in silence.
***
Although Sam had stayed with the Irelands while working tirelessly on getting Colby back, he didn’t think Colby would be up to going there and seeing everyone right now.  So, he took them back to their original hotel, which had thankfully been paid up for another day before the arrest.
Colby hadn’t questioned it.  He walked into their room and looked around at the mess they had left behind 30 hours prior before dropping his jail paperwork in a heap on the hotel table and heading over to his bed.  He slumped down on the bed with a tired sigh, turning to lean himself against the headboard and drawing his knees up in front of him.
Sam sighed, and came to sit down next to Colby.  He bumped his shoulder into Colby’s in solidarity, and Colby huffed and leaned his head onto Sam’s shoulder.
The silence stretched out between them for a moment, comfortable and sure.  They didn’t need words.  They both always just knew.  It was a thing that their friends and even family would tease them for sometimes, their ability to just sit and be together, with no words, and draw some kind of silent strength from one another.  They didn’t care what anyone had to say about it, really.  It gave them both peace and reassurance, and that was what mattered.
“What do we do now?” Colby asked after a moment, exhaustion threaded in his voice.
Sam shifted slightly, and bumped his knee again Colby’s.  “Our lawyer’s working on it,” he replied quietly.  “She yelled at me for a while, but she’s gonna make it so we can go back home until the court date.”
“Oh, good,” Colby responded.  “Cause like, I don’t wanna be here anymore.”
Sam reached out a hand, and clasped Colby’s shaking one in his.  “You’re ok, though...right?” He asked in a quiet voice.
Colby nodded.  “Just like, it was scary, you know?” He responded.  “I didn’t like being alone, and everyone in there was nice to me and shit, but...”
Sam smiled.  Trust Colby to declare that everyone he shared jail space with was nice.
“Dude, you are never allowed to go to jail without me again,” Sam declared, squeezing Colby’s hand.
Colby squeezed back.  “Don’t pay your bail next time, and join me,” he responded.
He was joking, Sam knew, but he felt the panic and fear and guilt of the last 14 hours bubble up his throat anyway, and tears began to prick at his eyes. “Dude,” he gasped, “I’m never going to let anyone separate us like that ever again.”
Colby lifted his head to look in Sam’s eyes.  “I know, brother,” he replied slowly.
Sam shook his head.  The tears were brimming now, he could feel it.  The dam was bursting.  “No,” he sniffled, “Like, they walked you into the back and I saw how scared you were, brother, like I felt it and there was nothing I could do about it!  And then I had to go out there, alone, and leave you there!  Like, I never wanted that-”
“I know, Sam-”
“-Like, leaving you behind, or losing you, is my worst nightmare, dude!  Like, I can’t do it again, I don’t ever want anyone to do that to us again-”
“-Sam, they won’t-”
“-And like, I just love you so much, brother, you know that, right?”  Sam’s mini-tirade ended on a sob, as Sam turned and pulled Colby into his arms.  He didn’t hug Colby near enough, or articulate into words how much he loved him.  It wasn’t Sam’s style; he was never good with outward displays of emotions.  Of the two of them, Colby was always the one who wore his heart on his sleeve, and did so effortlessly.  Sam struggled with displays of affection and emotion.
He knew, in his more rational moments, that Colby knew him better than anyone else on the planet.  That Colby understand how much he meant to Sam, that Colby knew how much Sam loved him.  That words weren’t needed between them; that his actions were felt and deciphered and understood.
But sometimes, it all just came bubbling out, spilling all over the place like a volcano.  When Sam got emotional, he went all in with said emotion, and Colby understood that, too.
Colby understood everything, when it came to Sam.
“I know, Sam,” Colby responded, arms wrapped tightly around Sam’s shoulders.  Sam turned his head into Colby’s neck and breathed deep.  He smelled like sweat, and jail, and fear...but underneath all of that was the distinctive smell of Colby Brock.  The smell Sam had come to associate with home, many years ago.
“They’ll never take you away from me again,” Sam whispered, and Colby chuckled.
“I’d like to see ‘em try,” He responded.

Love Her  - Colby Brock
Based on “Love Her” by the Jonas Brothers, it’s a series of little stories of the ups and downs of a relationship with Colby.
A/N: I loved writing this. It was a new style for me and I kinda dig it, so if y’all wanna request more song fics, that would be great.
Requested by an amazing anon 💙
Warnings: some curse words
Word Count: 1.9k+
--------------------------------------------------
Drive me crazy, make me mental
No other buttons she can push
“What are you doing?” you asked Colby for the third time. You had spaced out the times you had asked him pretty well, but you were honestly just bored and wanted to snuggle up to him and watch a movie or something. However, you laid in his bed alone. He was in bed with you earlier, but when he left to go to the bathroom, he sprawled out on the couch instead. You wanted to get up and lay with him there but sensed some sort of tension, so you stayed put. Y’all had been on your phones the whole time, but he had recently switched to his laptop and you wanted to know why.
“The same thing I was doing earlier, y/n. Work stuff,” he let out with a huff. Maybe he was stressed or maybe he was tired of you. You didn’t know, but you felt bad for being there. You walked into his bathroom to use it for a minute before entering his room again and plopping down on the bed. Since you were bored and Colby didn’t seem to be available, you got on TikTok but made sure you turned your volume down a lot so it wouldn’t bother him, but he somehow still heard it.
“Do you want to go home? I can take you home if you want,” Colby offered, but by the tone of his voice, it came out slightly harsher than he intended. You paused your video and tried to stop the tears that sprung into your eyes. He is just a little stressed. That’s it. It’s not your fault, y/n. He’s not mad at you. You told yourself.
“Do you want me to go home, Colby? It sounds like you don’t want me here,” You stated sternly as you fought back the tears and sat up on the bed. His eyes met yours and immediately softened when he saw your expression. He walked over to you and sat next to your figure.
“I’m sorry. I’ve just got a lot to do today and haven’t had the time to spend with you that I should have. I thought I’d have more time when I invited you, but stuff came up. I’m sorry, sweetheart. Let me finish up a few more things and then I’m all yours, okay?” He asked as he brought his fingers to your chin to direct your face to look at his. Lightly, you nodded your head and gave him a small smile. He planted a chaste kiss to your cheek before finishing up the last of his work things for the day.
One second she’s Miss Sentimental
Then she’s afraid she’s said too much
“What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?” Colby asked after he noticed you had not said much in a while, which is very unlike you. You were normally quite the chatterbox, but he didn’t mind it. You laid with your back against his chest in one of the blue lounge chairs that sat by the pool. You and Colby always loved to go out and look at the stars, and lately, this was your favorite spot to do so.
“Just thinking,” you whispered as you gazed at a particular star that was twinkling brightly in its spot in the endless darkness of the wide open sky.
“What about, princess?” He pressed and you smiled as you looked up at him.
“Remember when we first did this?” You questioned and he hummed in response. You continued on with the story of how Colby had driven you to a place out on the edge of the city that had a lookout where you could see Los Angeles and all of its beauty. You two stayed there that night, looking at the beautiful view of the large city and all of the stars that inhabited the sky.
“And then we accidentally fell asleep for a bit and woke up and saw that it was almost morning time and watched the sunrise.” You finished the lengthy story before hearing Colby’s chuckle reverberate in his chest beneath your head.
“You know you can tell me to shut up sometimes. I know that I talk a good bit,” You muttered as you turned your attention back to the flickering lights that were sprinkled throughout the dark space above.
“Now, why would I do that? I love to listen to you and to hear your voice.” His words warmed your heart and you placed a kiss to his arm that was wrapped around you.
Opposites attract and we’re the living proof of this
But I keep comin’ back like a magnet
“You and y/n are so different. So, the people want to know how you two make things work? Do you ever get annoyed or tired of or angry with the other?” the interviewer asked Colby after Sam got finished with a question about him and Kat.
“Well, in every relationship, you get aggravated with the other. Sometimes, you get angry, and sometimes, you need your space. You can ask any of our friends and you can ask Sam. Y/n and I are complete opposites.” Colby pauses as Sam nods his head and agrees.
“But I think that’s the beauty of us and our relationship. I am extremely focused on work and am very deep and emotional and I get upset more than she does. She is so bubbly and happy all the time. She’s carefree and loves everything. I don’t think there is one thing that she hates. She’s like a light in my kinda dark life and I love that about her. And I like to think I help her when she has feelings like sadness that she isn’t used to feeling. You know what they say. Opposites attract,” he finished with a slight chuckle.
Cause when you love her, no matter the fight
“Ugh! I’m not having this argument anymore,” you huffed as you grabbed a pillow and blanket from Colby’s bed.
“Where are you going?” He asked, eyebrows furrowed and voice annoyed.
“To the movie room. I can’t stay up here with you tonight and I don’t want to get an uber home. You want to be alone, then alone you’ll be,” you spat before slamming his door shut and trudging down the steps until you reached the room you would be staying in for the night. You picked one of the couches that sat in the far back and laid your pillow down on it before laying down and snuggling into the blanket.
You know she’s always right, and it’s alright
You stayed cuddled into the blanket and facing the red wall when you heard the door open. You refused to turn around to see who it was, knowing it was probably him and pretended to be asleep.
“I know you’re not asleep, princess,” He whispered as you felt the couch dip near your feet where he sat, and his hand rubbed gently against your legs.
“It’s kind of hard to go to sleep when a certain asshole won’t leave me alone. Isn’t that what you said? That you wanted to be left alone? I left you alone and look where you are now,” You grumbled before turning away from him again.
“Hey, it’s just been a day for me, okay? You know I like to be alone to-”
“Recharge. I know, but I leave you alone a lot because I know that. I just don’t like it when you invite me over here to hang out then you shut me out, so I have to ask what’s wrong and then you blow up like you did earlier. I am scared that if I leave you alone anymore and if when we’re together and you act like that, then we won’t last very long. I love you, Colby. I really do, but I don’t know how much longer I can sit here and wonder what you’re thinking,” You finished your speech as you watched him nod in agreement and his hand continued to run up and down your leg soothingly.
“You’re right. I need to tell you how I feel so that things like that don’t happen again and I won't leave you wondering. But just don’t leave me alone when you think I need to be left alone. Leave me alone when I tell you I need to be because I want to think that you’re giving me space because I need it, not because you don’t like me anymore,” he confessed.
“You thought I was leaving because I didn’t like you anymore?” You snapped your head in his direction when he said that, and your eyes softened in his gaze. He nodded gently and you sat up, wrapping your arms around him.
“No, baby. I was just trying to give you the space I thought you wanted. This is why you need to tell me how you’re feeling so things like this don’t get mixed up,” you whispered in his ear. He pulled away from you and nodded his head in agreement.
“Let’s go upstairs, yeah?” He asked and you smiled before grabbing the pillow and blanket and following him up the stairs.
And they say love can hurt but seein’ her smile
Will get you every time, yeah, every time
Colby watched you from across the room. He stood in the kitchen and you sat at the table a bit away. He was deep in other thoughts that seemed to get him down, but he saw you bust out into a fit of laughter at something Aryia said. You and Tara both found his words to be quite hilarious and could not get your giggles to cease. The sound of it was like music to his ears and made the corners of his lips turn up slightly before the thoughts in his own head brought him down again.
A little while later, you hopped off the chair and waltzed into the kitchen to get another slice of pizza for both you and Jake. You reached for a plate and went to the pizza box before noticing that Colby was staring at you.
“Like what you see?” you giggled as you met his eye. He smiled a little, but it was one of the smallest smiles you had ever seen from him. You knew something was wrong. After pulling two slices of pepperoni pizza out and sliding them onto your plate, you went over to him and looked him right in the eye, searching as if you would find an answer in his baby blues that he was trying to tell you.
“You okay? What’s wrong? Why are you in here alone?” You spewed the string of questions and he shook his head.
“I’m fine. I’m just… chilling,” he muttered, but you didn’t buy it. You slipped your hand in his and tugged at it, pulling him to the table.
“Come on,” you smiled up at him and he thought his knees would buckle underneath at the beautiful sight.
“I made Sam get stuffed crust pizza just for you, so you better grab a slice and come hang out with your friends and girlfriend. You feel better, I promise.” He sighed before nodding and doing what he was told.
“Only because I love you,” He whispered under his breath, causing you to turn around and quirk an eyebrow.
“What was that?” He shook his head as he laughed.
“Nothing princess.”
Because you love her

Secret’s out
Summary : Can I request Colby and the reader dating in secret and it gets out when she posts a picture in his unreleased merch 🥺 love you - anon.
P.s Love you too 🥰❤️
Warnings : none.
Word count : 822 words
———————————————————————
Your back was resting against his chest as his soft hums filled the apartment. Colby was currently humming you to sleep , his hands rubbing slow circles across your back as you snuggled deep into him.
“I’m coldddd.” You whined out , flipping over until you were basically straddling him. Your head fell upon his chest as your arms tightened their grip around his torso.
“Do you want me to lower down the temperature ?” He asked you softly , his lips dancing over your forehead as you moved your head from side to side.
“Then it’ll be too hot to cuddle up against you.” You pouted.
Colby took in his opportunity and placed a quick peck over your lips , making you giggle in the process.
You loved being with him , every single minute of it felt heavenly although dating him did come with consequences. Considering how strong his fandom was , it was difficult being spotted close to him. The fans would always raise a suspicion and you just couldn’t risk it.
There were times where the two of you had to sit miles away from one another , omitting out any suspicion but somehow managing to maintain a strong but secret eye contact.
Lucky for the two of you , today was just one of those casual days that consisted mainly of cuddling into one another’s arms whilst the tv would go back in the background. It was just him and his heartbeat that accompanied your senses.
Your back was pressed up against his chest once again , your body lifting up with slowly with each breath he took in. Both of yours legs were tangled into one another as his arms hung below your waist.
“I’ll be right back babe.” Colby said , waiting for you to get up off his chest as he left you alone in the living room for a couple of minutes.
You began scrolling through your Instagram , liking and commenting back on most of your posts as you felt the sudden urge to click a picture for your Instagram.
Your body sprung upright , your hand smoothening down the wrinkles across Colby’s merch before quickly puffing up your hair , adding in that extra volume before posting it to your page as people started flooding you with comments.
Most of them awed over your healthy and fresh skin with absolutely no makeup over it while the rest certainly caught onto something. Colby’s merch , specifically , his unreleased one !
You face palmed yourself as Colby caught you between the act , “is everything okay baby ?” He asked while taking a seat down next to you.
You handed him over your phone , studying his features as you prepared yourself for the yelling you were about to receive.
‘Oh my gosh is that going to be Colby’s new merch ?’ ‘I can spot the tee having Colby’s wolf tattoo on it.’ ‘Why is she wearing his unreleased merch ?’
The comments kept on flooding it as you quickly changed up the setting , limiting the amount of comments you could.
“I’m really sorry , I shouldn’t have done that. I’ll come up with a good excuse.” You blurted out , feeling extremely guilty for your actions , knowing he wasn’t just as ready yet to be telling the world about you two.
“It’s okay love , maybe it’s for the best ?” He asked shyly , his eyes shined with a gleam of hope.
“I’m not..what do you mean ?” You asked him confusedly.
His fingers intertwined with yours , his chest huffed up. “I think it’s time we tell the world.”
Your eyes grew wide open , still pondering over his words. “What if the fandom doesn’t accept me?” You whispered in fear.
Colby chuckled softly before placing the screen in front of you , tons of comments saying they shipped the both of you sprawled out the screen along with quite a few hate ones , but that didn’t seem to bring you down.
You knew most of the fandom already as you once had made a guest star appearance in both , Sam’s and Colby’s main channels. Questions repeatedly approached towards you as people were figuring out who you truly were , but it subdued as time went on.
“Are you sure Colbear ?” You weren’t quite sure it was the best idea but would go along with whatever he said , although a little curiosity never kills.
“Absolutely sure beautiful. I’m ready to tell the world that you belong to me.” He commented , his hand lifted up your palm before kissing the back of your hand , a sign of him asking you to trust him.
You smiled widely , finally being able to relax once the world knew about the two of you. You couldn’t wait to sit beside him during videos or even openly share cheeky looks. None the less , you couldn’t wait to kiss him in full view neither talk about your beautiful love story.

2 - Bad Friends
“So what’s your name?” Sam asked, still filming.
We had walked for a while so I got to know a little about what they do. They were youtubers also and actually were very known, I didn’t know of them of course but somehow even with the many support they have, they have humbled hearts.
“Hazel” I say as I start messing with my camera I finally pulled out.
“That’s a very pretty name.” Colby admired it and I blushed.
“Uh, thank you.” I was so happy it was dark and they couldn’t see me and that I was sunburned.
“What’s your friends names?” Colby asked awkwardly trying to fill the silence after his comment.
“Alex and Zoey.” I was very upset with them and I really didn’t want to find them.
“So how exactly did they just walk away from you without saying anything?” Sam asked confused.
I shrug, I was confused too. It was like they wanted to leave me there so I couldn’t find them. What great friends I have, I know.
“Here.” Colby reached out to give me something.
Sam pointed the camera light and it was his phone, “Uhm... thanks..” I hesitate to grab it but Colby insisted.
I grab it and dial Zoey’s number, hoping I remembered it correctly and not forget it. We had almost the same number but the last two digits at the end and I, for some reason, always forgot them.
I put the phone up to my ear and continued to follow Sam and Colby. They began talking as the phone rang and I struggled to keep up, they walked in very wide strides and for my short legs, it felt like I was jogging to keep up.
“Hello?” Finally she answered.
“Where are you?” I ask angrily.
“Who is thi-“ I interrupted her, “Where the hell are you guys, Zoe?!” I shouted.
Sam and Colby stopped and looked at me. I know they felt bad but I didnt want them to see me get emotional so I turned my back toward them.
“Oh my god, haze! Where are you? Alex and me have been looking every-“ I interrupted again, “have you, Zoe? Have you?! Because it doesn’t feel like it. You left me there by myself and you knew I was scared to even come here. I asked you before we walked this trail NOT to leave me and what did you do?!” I was shouting and I hear footsteps behind me.
For some reason I was terrified and froze, not remembering the boys behind me. The ones that actually cared to help me and not like my friends that thought it was funny to leave me by myself but I still got scared when I felt a hand on my forearm. I turned around and screamed, not knowing if maybe I was having an anxiety attack or what? But I legit screamed in Colby’s face and he looked so terrified.
He grabbed the phone and tossed it to Sam, “Talk to them. Now.” His voice angry but worried.
He grabbed me, pulling me toward him and held me in his arms for me to calm down. I didn’t realize how scared I truly was until I finally heard zoey’s voice. I didn’t care that Colby, a complete stranger, was hugging me to comfort me from being more terrified. I was truly afraid that I was left alone in a deserted area.
“I’m so sorry..” I quietly said, breathing hard like I lost air for a moment.
Colby patted my head and shushed me, “It’s okay, you don’t need to apologize.”
I heard Sam talking and from the tone he was talking in, he had gotten frustrated too.
“What are they saying, Sam? Are they close?” Colby asked, not letting go of me.
“Hold on.” Sam said putting his finger up to be quiet.
“What great friends you have.” Colby said sarcastically.
I laugh at his tone and feel him tighten his hug, “Sorry but those aren’t friends if they leave you like that especially knowing you have panic attacks like you did, I would never have friends like that.” He explained.
Panic attack? Is that what it was? I thought it was my anxiety finally letting out.
“Yeah, I guess they are bad friends.” I say partly sad of the truth in it.
It was hard for me to admit it but Zoey has always done this type of thing to me. Which is why my anxiety was so high sprung. I guess she wasn’t my best friend after all. In fact, I think I found new friends in my darkest times.
—Hello!! Sorry for not posting on Monday, I was going through so much and have been busy sense then but here is the second part of my story! Hope you like it!

something wonderful
summary :: you and colby move into an apartment together an you reflect on your relationship
song :: seaway - something wonderful
pairing :: domestic!Colby Brock x reader
WARNINGS :: slight alcoholism, swearing (probably)
notes :: the reader’s gonna be wearing a dress in this buT THAT DOESN’T AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THAT THE READER IS A GIRL I’M SORRY IF YOU DON’T LIKE DRESSES
find more fics at my new blog @trapboysbunny
I like the way that you dress up And wear your Martens for me
“You ready babe?” Colby called from the living room. He had been sitting on the couch, checking his notifications and fiddling with random apps for about ten minutes. The new couch was still extremely firm, but had yet to be broken in.
“Yeah!” you replied, smoothing out your dress in the mirror. It was new and you thought you’d try wearing it out. Not bad. You slipped on your shoes and ventured out to the living room, smiling sweetly at him. “Whadya think?”
“You look cute.” He smiled widely from his spot on the couch.
“Since you’re already sitting, would you mind lacing up my Docs for me?” you asked innocently, holding your foot out towards him.
“Sure thing, babe.”
I like that when I grab your hand You tend to smile in your sleep
You had always had trouble sleeping, but when you actually got a solid sleep it was when you were with your boyfriend. This night in particular, summer was ending and your back was pressed against Colby’s chest, his arm draped over your waist. You had fallen asleep on the couch, a blanket that you had gotten as a house warming gift draped over the both of you as the TV played I Love Lucy quietly in the background. It was dorky, you had hear it a thousand times, but you loved it. Colby loved watching it with you because it made you laugh, and your laugh was definitely one of his favorite things about you.
The summer breeze blew in through an open window, carrying with it the sounds of the busy streets below. It raised goosebumps across your skin, and Colby rubbed your arm, warming it with his palm. You hummed, eyes shut, shifting slightly under his touch. His hand trailed down your arm and entwined your fingers, squeezing softly. You turned your head in your sleep, smiling softly. “I love you,” you mumbled, eyes shut.
He knew you weren’t conscious and that you probably wouldn’t remember saying it in the morning, but he smiled anyways. He loved hearing you say it. “I love you too.”
I like the way you sprinkle Bourbon in your morning coffee. It kind of tastes bad, I’m not mad
It was a habit that you had yet to break. You had been doing it since you were 16. If you were stressed, you would make a giant cup of coffee with your breakfast and spike it with a shot of bourbon. One particular morning, Colby decided to ask about it. “Baby, I see you do that all the time. It can’t taste good.” He paused. “How is it?”
“It’s okay.” You shrugged, taking a sip from your yellow mug. “You wanna try it?”
Colby shrugged, setting his spoon in his cereal bowl. “Sure. Why not?”
So you handed him the mug, careful not to spill as you placed it in his eager hands. He looked at it suspiciously before finally deciding to take a sip. He tried to tough it out but ended up coughing and wheezing. You chuckled in amusement, some hair falling into your eyes. “Not for you?”
Colby shook his head, coughing in attempt to soothe the burning in his throat. “No, not at all.”
I like how you put up with me And all my friends ‘cause we’re jerks And bring me places Like your beach house or a Jimmy concert
You and Colby decided to take a vacation from the chaos of city life by taking a weekend down at your parents’ lake house. It wasn’t like you had asked to borrow the house for the weekend, your parents simply offered since they apparently got tired of such beautiful scenery. The point of the weekend had been to relax. Well, that was until you and Colby were on your way there. You were driving and Colby was whining at you from the passenger seat about how you both should’ve invited the guys. “Please, baby? Can we ask them to meet us there? It’ll be so much fun,” he whined, basically leaning over the center console to rest his head on your shoulder.
You simply laughed, shaking your head at him as you focused on the road in front of you. “Fine. But they all have to bring their own shit.”
Colby smiled widely, pecking you on the cheek and replying sweetly, “Thank you, Y/N.”
I like how it’s been days now Since you washed that yellow t-shirt It kind of smells now, but I’m down
You laid in your shared bed, face buried in the comforter with the hood of your sweater pulled over your head. You felt the bed dip beside you as Colby sat next to you, resting a hand on your back. “Y/N, I know you really like that yellow shirt, but you gotta wash it,” he said softly, trying not to laugh as he rubbed circles into your back with his palm.
You groaned dramatically, the sound of it muffled by the sheets against your face. “I don’t wanna do laundry,” you whined childishly.
“But you have to...”
“Ya know what would make this easier?” you asked, lifting your head and smiling cheekily at him.
“What?”
“If you did it for me...” you trailed off, still smiling and wiggling your eyebrows, kicking your feet lightly against a pillow at the head of the bed.
Colby shook his head playfully but leaned down to plant a light kiss on your forehead. “I got it, baby. Take a nap.”
“Thanks, babe!”
So baby, let’s go to the lake And have a party for two Come on let’s get drunk, go adventure Flip my uncle’s canoe And we’ll sing pop hits by the fire from 2002 We’re on our own now We kind of smell now, but I’m down
Another vacation with your boyfriend and his ex-roommates at your parents’ lake house and the boys were preoccupied. Well, all the boys except for your own. Sam, Jake, Corey, and Aaron were all playing video games and it was getting kind of late but, somehow, the sun was still up. You and Colby were chillin’ in your room when he suddenly looked to you. “You wanna get some alone time?”
Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “Are we not having alone time right now?”
“We are, but I meant like away from the guys. Out of the house...”
You chuckled softly, resting your cheek against his shoulder. “I have no idea what you have in mind, but I’m intrigued. Whisk me away, country boy.”
Colby laughed at that. “Put your swimsuit on, we’re going swimming.”
While you got dressed, he snuck off to get some snacks and drinks together. As soon as he got back, he threw on some swim trunks and got you both the hell out of there. You walked for a bit before you found the perfect spot on the shore of the lake to set up your blanket. It wasn’t anything special or anything, it was just a moving blanket and a backpack full of dollar store snacks and cheap drinks. As soon as you had set all your stuff down, you stripped yourself of your shorts and tee shirt and walked into the water, wading when you got in to your hips. Colby watched you in amusement as you waited for him to follow suit. “Come on!” you urged impatiently as you gestured for him to come in.
“I’m coming! I’m coming,” he assured you as he pulled his shirt over his head and threw it haphazardly onto the blanket.
Goosebumps spread across your skin and you took a step to that the water reached up to your belly button. Colby waded in as if it wasn’t cold at all, which it wasn’t actually that cold but it was cooler than the hot air on the shore so it would take you some adjusting. He pulled you against his chest, kissing your forehead gently. “You having a good time?” he asked.
You smiled, feeling the rumble of his voice in his chest against your cheek. “Yeah. I love the boys, but they stress me out sometimes.”
“I get that.” You both stood like that for a long while before Colby abruptly spoke up again. “You ready?”
“For what?” you asked, confused by the lack of context but, before you got an answer, he heaved you over his shoulder and threw you into the water. You sprung out and pointed an accusing finger at him. “Colby Brock, I can’t believe you did that to me!” you exclaimed, launching yourself at him and toppling him over, successfully dunking his head underwater.
You both laughed and messed around a while longer until the sun began to set and you both decided it would be best if you started a bonfire and cracked open your cheap, shitty wine. You exchanged jokes and old stories over solo cups full of the dark liquid, after the first sip of which you had both coughed and agreed that it wasn’t very good but it also wasn’t bad enough to stop drinking. Sooner or later you found yourselves singing Avril Lavigne extremely badly and chasing each other around the fire. It was honestly the most fun you had the whole trip.
We look good together, always down whenever We are weird and painful, just like Ross and Rachel Let’s take a shot at something wonderful
Colby was asleep on the bed next to you, sheets pulled up to his chin as he slept. He had a long day and had crashed hard as soon as his head hit the pillow. For whatever reason, you couldn’t fall asleep. You tossed and turned but, to no avail. Then, you had an idea. You turned to Colby, observing the way his hair fell into his eyes or the steady rhythm of his chest rising and falling. And you realized that you couldn’t have loved this boy more. He was the only one you had met who could make your stomach twist into nervous knots or make the blood rush to your cheeks. Your thoughts spiraled to every detail of the past year and a half of your relationship. With one final thought, you let your eyes close. I love you.
