Should Kyman be canonized or just kept the way things are with their weird relationship? XD

ok this is a rlly good question. i personally would love to see it canon bc i have absolutely no life and i ship two animated 4th graders together but i acknowledge the fact that the majority of south park fans don’t give a shit abt ships and only watch the show for the comedy LOL. so yeah i can see how them making kyman canon would piss off A LOT of people or ruin the show for them (and canonizing pretty much any ship between the four boys) so if it doesn’t happen it’s not the end of the world for me. however, i do feel like there are some things they could do to make kyman happen that would be satisfying for ALL the fans so it won’t seem like something that comes completely out of nowhere. first of all south park is a COMEDY and i’ve talked abt betore how kyman works 100x better than any other fanon ship bc it’s funny af and works with the tone of the show. so yeah they would rlly have to crank up the comedy on it to the max so it’s not something that’s taken too seriously. i mean i do feel they should give us serious moments of C&K here and there to show some character growth and development between the two characters and their bond, but yeah the primary focus of a sitcom is to be funny with only occasional serious/emotional moments here and there. BUT ALSO i feel like matt & trey would need to amp up the obviousness in the hints we’re getting. even tho the kyman shit seems rlly obvious to the testies bc we’ve overly dissected it, i feel like most people don’t notice this shit bc the hints are so damn subtle lol. even tho there are some people who have said that people they know irl who are just casual viewers notice the kyman shit but i feel like the majority of people don’t care and aren’t looking too much into it. bc yeah if matt & trey make it more clear that kyman is a thing and cartman and kyle like each other and continue giving us hints and foreshadowing, except this time they make it more noticeable among casual fans, then i feel like more people might root for it and it’ll feel earned when it does happen. i feel like it would need to be more like the gay hints abt stewie in family guy which are soooo obvious to literally everyone it’s just a known canon fact at this point that stewie is gay LOL (and there’s even compilations on youtube of it). however, the gay shit with cartman is def more debatable and more subtle so a lot of people don’t notice or care. so yeah i think if they’re rlly serious abt making kyman canon matt & trey need to stop pussying around and make it a little more clear and tackle it head on. the show def has done a good job developing their relationship throughout the years and the ship gets more and more intense each season, so yeah all they need to do is keep up the good work with that while sprinkling in a little more gayness and cranking up the obviousness and intensity of their romantic tension.

Today me and Sunset We're Going Out today and it was just a two of us having a really good time.We went to the city and Had a good Time, we just looked around. You know, looked at the shop and went to Famous places learned about the history of have Canterlot and just had a good time. We walked around and we reached to the park and we sat down the bench and just talked about things. Lay on in our lives. We talked about how school's been sort of a struggle, but we managed and we just struggle a lot of things like our own relationship with friendships and school work in general, but we're promise each other that we would help each other out one. We need at the most. So after the park we decided we were hungry and we decided that we should go and find Somebody. We headed to this little ice cream shop that seemed really cute and seems to have nice cool Icecreams donuts cakes and stuff that will fill our appetite. We walked into the shop and we sat in a little booth on the left. We our menus being thrown at us. We didn't even really hear what the server had said since he just Abruptly left us without without saying really anything "What was up with him??" Sunset asked and glanced st the menu I glare din his direction before looking back at Sunset "I'm not sure but he wa pretty rude to really saying anything not even a hello.." I said and sunset looked a me with a worried filled face "Hey relax maybe he's just having a bad day no biggie." I look back with a smile and shook the rude boy off my mind and glanced at the menu "I'm gonna have a /favorite ice cream/ with /favtoppings/!!" I exclaim and sunset chuckles "Your starting to sound alot like pinkie, I'm gonna have a rocky road with sprinkles" I laugh again and the boy comes back "So what do you want today." He asks with a quite rude tone I was taken aback and had the strongest urge to lose my temper but I kept my temper "Um.. I'm gonna have /fav icecream and toppings/ and she's gonna have a rock road with sprinkles!" I say acting sweet to avoid losing my temper and sunset nods in agreement and the dude just snatches the menus "Whatever your order will be done in a few minutes. " and he walls away I roll my eyes and sunset just rests her hand on top of mines and shakes her head "Relax love.."

After we finish our food and left the check leaving no tip, we left the store with un Happiness, due to his rude behavior he can't of us very disrespectful and the way he served ice cream to the point it would melt entirely. We couldn't have finished in time if we didn't hurry up and eat the ice cream it would have started to melt faster. Me and sunset were just about to leave the store when he comes out of nowhere and pull sunset back "Where's my tip!??" He yells I pull sunset back and get in his face "Your not getting a tip you know I've been really patient with you but here's something you should learn, maybe if you weren't Fucking rude you would have a tip, l it your fucking grimey ass hands on my girlfriend again and I'll personally make it a mission to make sure you never have anymore hands again.""ENOUGH!!" Sunset shouts and I look back and the boy runs away in fear sunset drags me outside the shop and she looks back at me angrily "What was that y/n!??" She yells and I look down to the floor "I wasn't gonna let him disrespect you like that.." Sunset sighs and pulls me into a hug "I can take care of myself, it should've been the other way around.." I look up at her "Who said??" She laughs and says "Come on let's go home.."

IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS.

Intro

There’s something about writing queer women in Hollywood that is like instant serotonin to me. I think it’s ingrained in our DNA as queer folks to love it. And I think it came from all the pre- code divas like Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Greta Garbo and the love of my life Marlene Dietrich.

It’s the glamour, it’s the innuendo and it’s the hint of something kinda gay happening in the background. As queer people, we actually don’t always like outward gayness in our stories, we like the suggestion of gay because it makes it sexier or more intriguing. Sometimes we like the subtext of gay more than we like straight-up homosexuality in our stories. Or at least I do.

And that’s why I like Hollywood – because everyone seems a little gay. The whole idea of actors and creatives at parties and on sets mixing and mingling is such an interest of mine. We don’t live those lives, but we do wonder what happens behind the gates. That’s why people write stories that incorporate Hollywood, because there will always be a mystique around it. Even now, when we’re not in the golden era and we’re becoming less and less enthralled by out-of-touch celebrities as we face the harsh reality of life.

Blah-blah-blah – all to say that movie stars are hot and we kinda ship them with their co-stars all the time because we’re gay and it makes sense.

Inspiration

If you’ve read my stories long enough you know that anything Taylor Jenkins-Reid writes is always going to inspire me. I’ve read most of her books, and I appreciate her commitment to writing characters that exist within this famous realm. If it were up to me, more of my own fics would incorporate a level of fame because the stakes instantly get higher when your characters are in the spotlight.

So, very noticeably, I took inspiration from her book, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Now, the way I always reference this book will have you thinking that this is my bible and my only frame of reference and my favourite book of all time.

And it’s not.

I think it’s got a lot of elements that I appreciate, but it’s far from being my favourite book with my favourite couple. It’s a nice book, it tugs on the heartstrings, it stays with me. But it’s not perfect. At times I personally felt like it could have gone deeper with the exploration of sexuality. I wish that we got more of the little moments between the principal pairing, but what do I know? I’ll just write my own fanfic that’s kinda like her story, but gayer.

Another point of reference is the song and music video of Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams. I’m not the biggest Swiftie – don’t come for me—but this song and video was really special to me. It came out a time when I was first getting into my own sexuality and learning that I like girls. And I always wanted the music video to be gay, because that would have been more impactful.

The song invokes this longing, yearning, very glam aesthetic and the lyrics of the song are kinda sad… and that makes Wildest Dreams the gayest Taylor Swift song of them all. And I don’t care about her new, more performative songs – they’ll never be 1989. The lyrics are kind of sprinkled all over the fic, so that’s a fun little easter egg if you’re really looking

The last piece of media that inspired me was the press tour of the movie Wicked. I loved the movie, I’ve seen it three times already. But I think what I liked more was seeing Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande on their press run acting like... Well I’m sure you’ve all seen how intense they were on that press run and as someone who holds space for queer media, I was definitely inspired by all of it. So dramatic, so camp, so strange in an almost surreal way that kept me glued to YouTube waiting for the next interview.

The Story

I won’t rehash the story, because I’m sure you’ve all read it. But I wanted to expand upon some things, because I love talking about my stories and this one in particular has a lot to talk about.

Sometimes people don’t like stories about characters figuring out who they are. And I get that. We’re queer and we wanna read queer stories, but we’re tired of queer struggles. However, sometimes it’s good to read about characters and the journeys they go on to get to themselves.

Christen, in the story, is this ambitious but cautious actor whose career hasn’t gone the way she would have hoped. She was a young Broadway star, Tony-nominated and on the cusp of superstardom. But then the pandemic happened and she realised how fickle like on stage was, and how she’d be better off in Hollywood.

She moved back to California and put together a team who ended up getting her in the hamster wheel of Netflix romance, and her career has stagnated to the point where she’s not getting the roles she really wants.

So, she’s kind of settling in various departments of her life. She’s settling in her career and in her personal life. She meets Elijah and he’s nice, her parents like him and that’s enough for her to agree to marry him.

But she’s never been sure of anything, and she’s never been sure of her own sexuality. In chapter 5 we get a glimpse of how her sexuality has manifested over the years. She’s never liked guys, but she’s never been with girls so she doesn’t know what she wants.

Later chapters will reveal more of her backstory, and we’ll understand what else has caused her trepidation. But her character is someone that others can relate to; she’s so confused about her feelings and there’s no one in her corner who she can talk to. She has a fiancé who loves her, but who she feels she can’t be honest with. She has best friend who represents the ideal of finding a man and loving him and being in this heteronormative relationship where they’ll get married and have kids and she knows Crystal will never be able to relate, so there’s no use in talking to her.

Her family wants her to be the perfect daughter, and Christen knows that they’ll probably write her off completely if she wasn’t that. She has to marry Elijah and have his kids and be a mother and wife and she’ll only get their approval once that happens. And she wants their approval. At the day a lot of people just want approval from their family. And queer people understand that better than anyone.

We have complex relationships with our families, even if they accept us. And sometimes it’s better to acquiesce when you’re around them. Sometimes it’s better to tame your queerness around your parents, because even though they love you they might not fully understand you, and they may not want to imagine you as this queer being. They just want you to be their child.

Christen just wants to be her parents’ child. She doesn’t want to lose them, especially because she’s always wanted their approval. She was successful on Broadway and that wasn’t enough. So, she wants to be a big movie star and she hopes that they’ll finally be proud of her. But, she knows marrying the man they like will be the only thing that ever makes them proud. So, she doesn’t want to leave him because what if this is her only chance to get the approval of her parents?

I’m 25 and I’ve given up trying to make my parents proud because I know that ship has sailed. They’ll never understand my choices and I think there’ll always be a part of me that wishes they did. But I know they never will and so I live my life knowing that’s something I can’t change. And there’s a freedom to it, but it’s also sad. And maybe some you have similar stories. It’s sad knowing that nothing you do will truly make your parents proud of you. So, imagine Christen… realising there’s a cheat-code to getting the one thing she’s always craved.

She gets this chance – they like Elijah. Marry him and they finally approve. Marry him and she gets what she’s always wanted.

But then she meets Tobin Heath, and all of a sudden things shift. Her world was black and white, and then she sees in colour for the first time. Gay awakening-core.

I attribute my own gay awakening to She-go from Kim Possible. And in my mind, a gay awakening isn’t this epiphany where it hits you out of nowhere and all of a sudden you’re gay. To me, a gay awakening is meeting someone or seeing a character on tv and they make you feel like… like you’ve been eating salad without dressing your whole life. You’ve just been eating dry arugula and tomatoes, no olive oil, no balsamic, no salt. But it never bothered you, because it was all your knew.

And then you see her, and it’s like ‘what have I been doing my whole life? What have i been missing?’

Christen is taken by Tobin and she thinks it’s because of the Oscar and the fame, but it’s really attraction. It’s attraction hidden behind adoration and respect. But it’s there, inside and flickering and lingering and eating at her to the point where she can’t deny it anymore.

Now, every interact is fuelled by this desire and denouncing of that desire. It’s an internal struggling that manifests itself in Christen second-guessing every little move. She doesn’t even know what to eat because she’s starting to doubt every decision she’s making. Because her heart and her head are in constant conflict.

Tobin is even more ethereal and magical than Christen could have ever imagined. But it goes even beyond that – Tobin is real, and she’s something that Christen has to confront for the first time in her life. And that’s the story.

Outro

In the second part of this little write-up series, I’ll focus more on Tobin and on lines, passages and moments in the story that I like and that carries a lot of weight. I just think the characters are very layered and we will get into their backstories more, and I think that will help explain the direction the stories goes even more.

Guess who just finished writing chapter 3 of Maybe Loving You is Dangerous? This guy!

Imma be real I’m both very excited and nervous to post it so I’m just going to yap about it a little on here because fic updates yk- (gonna keep this as spoiler free as possible)

It’s a whooping 15k words. I don’t know how I did it but somehow I wrote 15k words for one chapter. Like I said, they’re gonna be long ones- (I didn’t choose to yap, the yap chose me)

It’s a Jack centric chapter (first but certainly not last) and it sadly isn’t their little date. I deeply apologise, you’re going to have to wait another week for that. Instead it’s going to be the introduction to his little subplot (they’re both going to have one but it’s a little early to introduce Wanderlust’s one) and even though its the most basic subplot for him, I’m still very excited to write my own little version of it. BUT don’t you worry, I sprinkled a good amount of gayness into there for you guys to enjoy (hopefully)

Like three new characters get introduced in this chapter. 2 of them are OC’s, one of these OC’s I hold very close to my heart already even if they were just made for this fic- they just got me hooked already I guess. The other coach is the coach for Rock N’ Roll (who would have guess I’m obsessed with that map) using my own personal lore for her. I might make a post explaining that a little like I did before, but thats a task for me after I get some sleep.

I’m just very nervous to post this chapter as this fic is starting to feel like my child thanks to the time I spent working on it. I really hope you’re going to like it as much as you guys liked the other chapters so far (thank you for that btw)

Thats all I’m going to yap about it for now. It’s being beta’d as we speak so it’ll be ready to be posted tomorrow or well later today for me- I’m going to probably go to bed now.

okay so wrt that last post: yes, we want the sprinkling of queer romance on top of the rest of the plot, not for queer romance to be the entirety of the plot, that's definitely a thing and yes we want more queer sci-fi and queer fantasy etc etc.

BUT ALSO on the subject of those queerbaity shows and early 2000s shipper fandom....

i think the fact that you HAD to work for it was, in fact, part of the appeal! you didn't just get the queer romance handed to you on a silver platter, you had to, like. figure out the parts that were secretly queer, look for all the little hints that were dropped.

honestly? theorizing about queer-coded characters that were not explicitly textually queer felt a LOT like the internet working out the existence of standford pines on gravity falls, or steven universe fans figuring out garnet was a fusion. like, yes, sometimes it felt like the writers WERE leaving clues that you WERE intended to pick up on if you wanted to look! it was like solving a mystery, by looking into all these little tidbits and possible clues that were sprinkled everywhere. you had to WORK for it to read the relationship there, and that was part of the fun!

granted, the difference is that the queerbaiting was JUST queerbaiting and the gayness did not get a big dramatic reveal because they were not INTENDED to be part of the story, but there was still real sense of enjoyment we got out of deep analysis and queer readings that i think is kind of. lacking in modern shipping fandom?

idk, you just don't get 3k-word posts about how dean winchester is named for dean moriarty from on the road who was based on a man who may have been bisexual in real life and how that underlies the way he's written and portrayed on the show in a way that may not even be intended by the original authors in modern fandoms these days.

presenting: what music I think the villains listen to

//note : this is based mostly off of people I associate with the villains because everyone I hang out with is a music freak. if you think an 50 hour playlist is bad, wait until you get a hold of my best friend's 600 hour one

Giovanni

No way in hell this man isn't a swing fan. His playlist is exclusively 50's—70's and there is no coherent genre. If you listen to music with him you could be vibing to Marvin Gaye and then Elvis could come on.

Maxie

Pry Roar and The Front Bottoms from his cold, dead hands. Just BIG Folk Punk vibes from him. Also, a good amount of Alt-Rock. His guilty pleasure, though? Country music. He's probably the one that listens to the most music, just because he feels like the kind of guy that can't work without background noise.

Archie

Very well rounded, says he doesn't have a preference, but has a slight one for rock music. Specifically he enjoys 80s & 90s metal. He feels like the kind of guy to be really into Megadeth. Maybe sprinkle some Tech N9ne in there for flavor.

Cyrus

Realistically he's definitely a full Alternative fan. I think he's super into Weirdcore (See: Lemon Demon, Will Wood) but would never admit it. He also listens to Emo Rap and Russian Rap on occasion but doesn't really consider them favourites. He pretends he doesn't like music, though, so he only really gets to listen to what other people force him to.

Ghetsis

Screamo, next question—

Kidding, but he really does like screamo, metal, and hard rock. He'll pretend he only likes vague classical music to seem more mysterious and then you look at his history and it's all Slaughter to Prevail and Korn.

Colress

I like to think he doesn't really listen to music in his free time. He usually listens to whatever is on, which is usually Ghetsis's screamo. He keeps him from ruining speakers. He does enjoy Green Day, though, and some Olivia Rodrigo.

Lysandre

He really likes single instrument covers, especially violin. Absolute Lindsey Stirling fanboy. Also enjoys Lana Del Rey and MARINA a lot. Those kinds of pop artists, you know?

Guzma

He's definitely the most well-rounded with his tastes, mostly because he listens to a lot of it. He listens to a lot of pre-2010s hip-hop & rnb. He loves dance music and electronica as well, and generally just a lot of old school stuff. Anything from 2pac to Gewn Stefani, baby. Mood/genre-switched covers are also a thing, and just covers in general. Catch him in his room at 2am listening to egg on repeat (then back away awkwardly and shut the door because he gets too into it and starts crying).

Lusamine

Listens to a lot of what Lysandre does. Lorde, Billie Eilish, anything hard pop that can pass as alternative. Nobody will ever trust her with the aux/bluetooth/radio/etc. because she always plays music nobody likes. She once got into a fight with Cyrus on what is and isn't alternative music and he didn't speak to her for a month after.

Bonuses, villains I don't include on the blog

Rose

Classical music. Bach & Chopin always playing from his office. More for ominous ambiance than anything, but he does genuinely enjoy it.

Oleana

She doesn't really listen to music, but she likes rap. She won't go out of her way to listen to anything, though.

Volo

Echoey latin chants with ambient noises in the background /hj. If he was in the modern day, I think he'd like NF and Panic! At the Disco.

Hello, i would want to know, what SF era is the most gay to you and which is the least? I feel it can't be more gay than Guerrive/Abbitan!!!

yess schwartz really did draw them REALLYYYY gay like he's truly pushing it and i think guerrive & abbitan leaned into writing them with homoerotic undertones too. not saying they're committed to make them gay in an actual "gay" way, but "gay" like those classic two-guy duos. though i think the publisher themselves is also riding this yaoi wave as they make them more and more. yknow... 🤨🏳️‍🌈❓

DISCLAIMER personally i dont see/"ship" them being "gay" in terms of. romantically lovey-dovey getting married hubby wubby way so i cant really rank the gayness of each era. everything is gay to me, theyre straight dudebros which is actually really fucking gay. straight is gay. its #camp. im bisexual. theyre too journalizing reportering to be thinking of marriage and dating and in love. they fuck as fellas they make out as homies <3 theyre in love yes but not like that but also yes like that

for me i do agree they're the gayest they've ever been in this current era, explicitly speaking. but franquin really hammered home that "lifelong partners" old-married couple trope for them and tome janry really tried to sprinkle in some bisexual stuff and make them heart-wrenchingly faggy. morvan & munuera's s&f has that newlyweds / young gays vibes even if many people hated their run for THAT album lol. and i'd say fournier and nic cauvin did have that they-are-together-but-we-wont-say-what-kind thing s&f generally have. so that leaves us with yoann & vehlmann. im not saying there isnt anything gay or crazy insane "the only explanation for the typa shit theyre pulling is love" moments in their era (there are A LOT!) but the characters feel pretty surface-level, they dont even spend that much time together, and they keep putting random heterosexual hearts flying everywhere every time one of them talk to the different sex LMFAO which is funny to think about since their debut spirou comic, their spirou de, was my favorite. and entire album was about the yin yang puzzle piece dynamic of the two. but one can always find gay in the most dudebros of way so! every era has its own gay-as-fuck flavor if ya dig deep enough. and ya had lost yer mind. and ya have love in yer heart <3

i was going to think about spirou de too but honestly you can find gay anywhere in any s&f comic fjdkjgdkf; shoutout to tarrin my bisexual spifantine GOAT though. and whatever the hell was in that lumière and fondation z albums. AND THE ROBBEDOES SPECIAL? lord this might go on forever

Do you think the writers were originally gonna make Ted bi but chickened out? Literally what was up with the bi-angles around Ted's head? Was it bait? Or was it just a queer easter egg or subtle nod to Colin and Trent's conversation earlier?

the past week i have been wondering this, too. and tbh. i think the more i settle into the ending we were given (while trying to let go of the What Would've Been endings in my head) the more i think the writers did make ted bisexual. they didn't chicken out, either.

here's why:

i think if the bi triangles were the only queer imagery/reference with ted throughout the show, then, yes, they would've been a nod to the earlier colin+trent conversation. because it would've been standalone. there's no other basis for it, no other throughline attached, no reason for viewers to go "HOLY SHIT" when that symbol pops up in ted's epiphany. the triangle would've been meaningless to ted's character outside of the Total Football Boxes analogy, while narratively threading colin's queer arc to others in Richmond.

but no, that's not the case. the bi triangles were not the only queer thing tied to ted.

there have been multiple allusions to queer culture throughout the show in relation to him. freddy mercury, oscar wilde, walt whitman, dolly parton, shania twain, "be curious not judgemental", wizard of oz, etc. they're never explicitly expressed to be queer, though, not like the triangle symbol was thanks to the trent+colin conversation.

more overt are ted's comments on men's physiques. "muscular thighs caked in mud" and "you're strong"/"you're tall" and every other word he says about pep guardiola. there's a short scene in s2 where he's losing it over nate looking good in a suit. in fact, there are so many of these Seemingly Harmless Appreciation Of The Male Form Moments sprinkled throughout that it's time-consuming to compile a complete list. it's such a contrast to how he expresses his interest in women because with women he's not as outright -- for lack of a better word -- horny.

he also seeks out emotional intimacy with other men. "honey" "sweetie" "babe" are all terms of endearment he hands out freely. which is! good! healthy! fuck toxic masculinity! i only point this out because he begins doing so directly as a result of michelle divorcing him and it's his way of seeking comfort for something he'd otherwise not get.

this all ties into his conditioned sexuality. the social programming he would've grown up with in the Midwest during the '80s-'90s. traditional values type beat.

in regards to women, the traditional culture is: treat women with respect, don't make inappropriate comments about them, sex is an act reserved for a relationship (last point is alluded to when he confesses he hasn't ever had a one-night-stand before sassy).

in regards to men, the traditional culture is: don't be gay lol

but ted grew up with sports culture, too. and men, while in a Sports Culture Environment (gym/pitch/locker room/etc), are more physical with one another and more complimentary of one another's bodies because sports culture gives them a pass to do so. a dude can be as horny as he wants and say shit like "muscular thighs caked in mud" or slap a teammate's ass after a score, and it's accepted (provided he's tight with his teammates like that). it's an easy, innocuous outlet for gay desires which may be otherwise repressed or hidden (think of colin's "i'll have sex with zava" or "he's mine" jokes).

granted, in sports culture there are lines that aren't supposed to be crossed. kissing other men or dating other men, for starters. sports culture is notoriously homophobic and tends to treat gayness similar to how Traditional America treats women's sex & sexuality: hypersexualized by acting displays of it, but with a very strong undercurrent of shame, intolerance, and This Is Wrong when confronted by the real thing.

we know ted to be a Represser. he represses his anger, he represses his father, he represses anything that might Disturb The Peace or Rock The Boat. while he's making progress with this in season 3, there are still instances where rebecca calls for "Oklahoma" to get ted to actually face his feelings/truths.

worth noting here that it takes way more than a year of therapy to let go of that defense mechanism. especially in ted's case, since it's been in use for over 25 years.

so if we combine these three things: ted's cultural upbringing, his penchant for repression, and the way he interacts with other men, it is not a far reach to come to the conclusion that he's deep in the bisexual closet.

he uses sports as a metaphorical bridge to vocalize his desires for other men, physical and emotional. something he can explain away as being part of normal team culture. but we get roy's homophobic dog looks in s3 and beard's "eehhh" in s1 to let us know that this -- praises about men's bodies and terms of endearment usages, respectively -- isn't a part of normal team culture. this is just ted.

there's also something to be said about the way ted looks at trent when no one else can see -- not even trent. most notably it occurs during their alone scenes in s3 ep2 and s3 ep12. the look is affectionate, open, and fond. the exact same heart eyes trent's been giving him all season, unabashed, in front of everyone.

the juxtaposition is clear here: trent is an openly gay man, therefore his adorations are made known to others. ted is a closeted bisexual man, therefore his adorations are not made known to anyone.

all this to say, anon, that i personally believe ted's written as a closeted bisexual.

i bought ultrakill forever ago but never got around to playing it. what is the deal why has it spawned such a dedicated fanbase. you seem like you'd know....

IT'S JUST REALLY GODDAMN FUN!!! that's the short answer and honestly the best answer. it's really ridiculously fun. like probably one of the most fun games to ever exist.

there is a ridiculous amount of care and skill and soul packed into every design choice; it culminates in some of the most immaculately ecstatic and visceral gameplay i've ever experienced. it cannot be understated how brilliant this game's design is. the only way to really understand why it excels is to just play it!

if you'd like an anecdote to represent the overall ultrakill experience, here's mine: when i played the demo for the first time, after maybe 5 minutes i became so physically nauseous that i had to stop. and in that time i immediately went to get the full game. it's DELIGHTFUL. (see also: jerma's playthrough where he starts screaming "humans aren't supposed to be doing this" during a boss fight.)

but even aside from pure gameplay, there really is a lot to love… there's a certain self-aware sincerity to everything. it's unabashed on purpose, and in the best ways possible. despite its obviously absurd violence, don't at all mistake ultrakill for something cynical or misanthropic—there's a lot of depth and heart dancing beneath the surface, a lot of it in places i didn't expect to see it, and so much that i didn't expect to appreciate nearly as much as i do.

like okay, obviously the music is just. insane. the goddamn midi metal/breakcore genre fusion is THE most hilarious and unfathomably genius stylistic choice that could have been made. and it's not even just that!! there's ambient & drone & harsh noise influence all across the ost, which just enchants and delights me. i DEFINITELY didn't expect it, but i love it. (the fact that there's like, a level named after a sunn o))) song, and that the latest update contains a godawful joke about trout mask replica might tell you exactly what kind of game ultrakill is, or it might tell you literally nothing.)

the writing and worldbuilding can be rich and compassionate in ways i really didn't expect, too... it's so evident that it's a work of passion, with really sincere and often sweet philosophies sprinkled throughout all the bloodshed and grotesque silliness—and often within them. it makes me smile! also gabriel is a really good character. people go apeshit over that guy. for good reason. he's just REALLY good.

if you're just interested in understanding its amassed fanbase, yeah ultrakill's is pretty ridiculous and dedicated. and it's extremely deserved! the game is fun & the characters are fun. being in early access, it's kinda built on ongoing feedback, so it makes sense people are invested. the devs really seem to embrace the fanbase wholeheartedly, which helps a lot too. that is also why, kind of inexplicably, ultrakill is kind of a gay & horny game. please note that i do not say these things flippantly or lacking deliberation; there's an extremely good essay to be written about gayness across ultrakill & its communities. like aside from the general hilarity of a game having official buttplug support, the fact that the dev team hired an artist specifically because he drew a lot of incredibly beautiful/obscene depictions of gabriel DOES say a lot. this, of course, makes ultrakill 100x better.

anyway that's the basics. i could definitely write THOUSANDS of words about this game and that's honestly... not what i expected when i booted it up the first time LOL. it really just happened to appeal to a lot of things i sincerely adore, in an unexpectedly sincere way—all while being a STUPIDLY good game.

TL;DR: it's a fun robot video game where you shoot things. and there's blood and explosions. it's good you should play it

I have a theory that the reason Bucky was just lukewarm to Marvin Gaye's music is that he first listened to it while checking off items from Steve's notebook of things to learn about in the 21st century, almost like a homework assignment. It wasn't until he heard Sarah humming along with background music while she worked on the boat and in the house that he truly thought of modern music as something to be enjoyed for its own sake. Now he loves gospel, and adores Tina Turner along with the Queen of Soul. He remains unimpressed by Marvin Gaye, much to Sam's annoyance and Sarah's amusement.

Bucky tried, really tried. Following directions was a habit he couldn’t shake. So when Sam told him to listen to Marvin Gaye’s “Trouble Man” album, he’d done so with all the diligence of a straight-A student. He didn’t get it. He even tried to watch the movie it was a soundtrack for — he just had Vision pull it up, or down load it, or whatever…Good lord, he could watch a 50-year-old movie on demand! — but it didn’t help. That took him down an Internet rabbit hole (another modern miracle slash nuisance) of watching Blaxploitation flicks while he sat around Avengers Tower. He came back to Louisiana feeling absolutely enlightened. One day Sarah, in the course of conversation, said: “Shut your mouth!” he automatically responded, “I’m just talkin’ bout Shaft.” There had been a lot of explaining to do after that. But still, didn’t get it.

Saturdays were for cleaning around the Wilson house. And it came with music. Bucky knew what he was in for when Sarah tied her hair up high and turned the radio up loud. It was usually songs from the 70s and 80s, lots of “funk” with a sprinkling of R&B and Gospel. To keep him on his toes, he figured. It made the housekeeping fun, reminded him of being in the service, when the band on base would play over the loudspeaker. He’d once been caught dancing with a mop handle while scrubbing the mess hall. That was a long time ago. This was now though. He was out back dumping out the trash, when he heard Sarah say: “Oh, that’s my JAM!” Then her fumbling to get to the speaker to start the song over and turn it up. He didn’t think much of it. It started out reasonable enough: “Now we’re gonna take the beginning of this song, and do it easy. But then we’re gonna do the finish, rough. That’s the way we do, Proud Mary.” It had a nice, almost sweet, beat to it. A little groove. They were on a river, the Mississippi he presumed, and singing and happy, and yeah, fine. He came in the door to see her slowly mopping the floor with broad sweeps: “Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis, popped a lot of tang down in New Orleans.” “Popped a lot of tang?” he’d have to look that one up. Seventies slang was really hard to track. He kept working, straightening up the mudroom. Then, as the kids say, the beat dropped. The horns came in. Sarah started singing. “Big wheel keep on turnin’, Proud Mary keep on burnin’!” The background singers stepped in and it felt like an actual presence in the room, like a whole damn band had shown up. Sarah didn’t see him. Or didn’t care. Because she was dancing, eyes closed, feet moving frantically, singing into the end of the mop handle as she dragged in across the floor: “Rolling on the river! Doot doot doot doot! Da doot doot doot doot!” The mop was both dance partner and microphone stand. The table was the audience. The kitchen counter, the band. She commanded it all, her feet double pumping as she danced, her arms spread wide. It was joyous and loud and silly and perfect. Then she came to the end, one hand over head, with the other she dropped the mop with a clatter and said, proudly to no one: “Mike drop!” Then she bowed. So Bucky clapped. Of course he did. Sarah startled back to the present and saw him standing in the door way, grin wide. “Bucky B Barnes if you don’t get back to work!” she snapped, embarrassed and entertained simultaneously, snatching the mop back up into her hands. “Sorry Kitten, had to…quite the performance.” “If you tell anyone…” “Don’t have to. Everyone in town heard you.” That’s how Bucky met Tina Turner. The second love of his life.
