Louise’s Pink Hair

TW: Cancer

I don’t know what to say, or I’d start any response to Louise’s video because to be honest, I’m still crying. 

First of all, Louise is the most brave, inspiring, beautiful woman who does nothing but earn my respect and love for everything she does and everything she is.

Secondly, Cancer Research, and Cancer as a disease is also something that is unbelievably close to my heart as I suffered from it when I was 18 months old. I had a wilms tumour and went through chemo and obviously, I was so young that I don’t remember anything about my time in hospital other than my seeing my pictures of a little 2 year old me with no hair (still smiling though). And I am thankful every single day of my life that it was so minor, and the hospital caught it at the right time that I can sit here at 21 years old in almost complete health (I also have a heart condition, so I’m not tip-top) and write this. But I do know what it’s like to have family affected by Cancer. My grandparents and family members have sometimes told me how scared they were at the time, that the thought of them being scared over me chokes me up completely. My parents have never said much about it at all, but I couldn’t even begin to wonder what they went through. But the moment that got me the most is when I went to America at the beginning of this year, with my parents, my 25 year old sister and her husband, and we went to Disneyland. I remember us waiting for the fireworks on our last night, and there were a family of three standing next to us - a mother, father, and their daughter (who must have been about 2), who was bald. Now I am not saying I knew that girl had cancer, but my 25 year old sister looked at this little girl and started crying, and I asked her why, and she said that she reminded her of me when I had my chemo, and I have never seen my sister that sad in my whole life, to see her like that broke me. 

My point is, Cancer is fucking scary. And can happen in so many different ways. As Louise said, they have progressed so much in terms of medicine, but it’s not a cure, and they still need all the help they can get. So if you can, I URGE you to donate to Louise’s justgiving page, or external Cancer charities, because every single donation helps. 

I don’t want more people to be affected by Cancer. So please. Help.
