Topic: Life Cycle of a Chicken

Today was another exciting day! Our little ones were actively engaged in various activities. We started the day by learning about the life cycle of a chicken. The children listened carefully and amazed about how a tiny egg turns into a fluffy chick.

New Vocabulary: chicken, hen, rooster, chick, laid egg, hatching, adult, cluck, and crow.

We incorporated this concept into a fun egg craft activity. Despite the many processes, the children remained focused completing their crafts. We also sang and danced to the delightful new songs about chicken to add to the fun.

March 25th Monday

Theme: Spring Steam Challenge

Today at our class, the day started with a gloomy weather. However, as soon as we gathered for circle time, the children’s mood shifted, and most of them were soon enjoying singing and dancing. It has heartwarming to see their smiles and laughter fill the room.

We discussed about the cycle and parts of the plants, and the children were eager learners, soaking in a new vocabulary such as; soil, seeds, stem, leaves, seedlings, sprouts, flowers, fruits, sun, air, and water.

Since it’s raining, we improvised by setting up a slides and balancing beam to enjoy the rest of the time before lunch.

In the afternoon, we embarked on a hands- on activity by creating mini greenhouses. Each child had the opportunity to decorate their own greenhouse by coloring and some beautiful stickers.. Then we carefully place seeds in a Ziplock bag, adding a sprinkle of water.

We hung their greenhouses by the window so they could observe the germination process until Friday.

Course A: Easter

Song: Easter Egg Hunt

Activity: Easter wreath, Easter keychain

Today was so exciting and fun. We started our day with some exercise and singing Easter songs. Then, we talked about how people celebrate Easter. The kids were so excited and asked lots of questions about Easter egg hunting and the activities we’re doing at school. After the discussion, the kids made their Easter bunny wreath and helped us stick the pictures around the classroom.

In the afternoon, we played the word hunting game, where they had to work together as partners. They seemed to have so much fun. They also colored their keychains and hung on their bags. Before the class ended, we played musical chairs and danced a little more.

K4 & K5 Spring Course C 

Today, the children watched The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Based on the story, the three brothers were very hungry because they already finished all the grass on the hillside. They had to cross the bridge to get on the other side of the river to eat more grass. But under the bridge, there lived an ugly troll. I asked the children if they were the goats, and wanted to cross the river, but they didn’t want to see the troll, what would they do? Some of the ideas they came up with were making another bridge, making a boat, swim, and find another place where there’s green grass. We also did a sink or float experiment to figure out which material is the best to use to make a boat!

K4 & K5 Spring Course C

The children had lots of fun today doing math activities. They learned how many hours are there in one day. They continued adding up the hours to figure out how many hours did the little pigs take to finish building their house. We did some big number addition and they loved it! They also painted their wooden house and tested its strength. Some houses got blown away and some houses stood still!

Today, the children used a hair dryer to blow the houses away. The house made of straw and wood were blown away and the house made of blocks didn’t move an inch. The children figured out why through our experiment. The children started making their wooden house. Each one of them thought of their own design and they will paint it tomorrow!

K4 & K5 Spring Course C 

Today, they watched ““The Three Little Pigs” and the children had a very fun learning experience. We presented three different kinds of houses to them and they tried to guess which one was the sturdiest. We used a hair dryer to blow the houses. They also built houses on their own using wood and blocks. It was sturdy! They seemed very excited to make their craft house tomorrow!

Spring Course B     Class: K4 and K5     Theme: Fairytale STEM Challenge 1

During choice time some of us took on the challenge and built a big suspension bridge. We used string and tape to suspend the deck.

When the bridge was finished, we had to test it!

Some of us had been singing 'London Bridge is Falling Down’ throughout the week. Today we sang it all together and danced.

Our gingerbread men were baked and ready to be decorated.

We finished the fairytale by finishing our cable-stayed bridge. Now Gingerbread Man can safely cross the river...

Spring Course B Class: K4 and K5 Theme: Fairytale STEM Challenge 1

At circle time we sequenced the Gingerbread Man story to refresh our memories. Today’s focus was on the arch bridge. First we tried creating an arch bridge with our bodies.

It was easy for some and a challenge for others. Most importantly, we got to try it!

We were shown a video of the bridge we were going to build. It was so strong, it could hold a real car!

After we had tried making a self-supporting stick bridge (designed by Leonardo da Vinci), Bram demonstrated how a traditional stone arch bridge is built.

After lunch we could give it a try ourselves to build the arch with the Styrofoam blocks.

We also wrote about our activities in our journals.

K3 Spring Course A

Today, we sang and danced Boom Chika Boom St. Patrick’s Day. We also reviewed the history of St. Patrick’s Day. It is very impressive that some of the kids remembered the details. They also played with Leprechaun’s green slime and found some coins and gold bars in it! They looked very happy. We also read the story, ““How To Catch A Leprechaun?”. Some of the kids shared with us what they would to to catch a Leprechaun! We also did treasure hunting in the afternoon．

K3 Spring Course A 

Today, the children learned about St. Patrick’s Day and why people wear green celebrating it. Green is the color of spring season. The kids also learned the difference between a shamrock and a clover! We also watched a short video clip about a Leprechaun, after that, we made a shamrock craft. We also did treasure hunting in our classroom today!

This week, K3 kids will be learning about Spring and St. Patrick’s Day. We introduced some words related to spring to the kids. We also counted gold bars and gold coins at circle time. Then, we made a butterfly craft. The children were so happy to see their crafts on our board! They said that the butterflies were friends and flying together! We will be learning a lot more about St. Patrick’s Day and spring in the next few days!

Spring Course B Class: K4 and K5 Theme: Fairytale STEM Challenge 1

First we listened to the Gingerbread Man story. Then we thought of ideas to help Gingerbread Man get across the river. This we will learn about, design and build bridges.

We started off with making bridges with our bodies. We held a planking competition.

Then we made beam bridges with a single sheet of paper.

We tested the strength of the bridges with coins.

Sometimes a bridge gave way and then it was back to designing a new one.

This bridge is pretty strong. The strongest bridge held 22 coins!

In the afternoon we made Gingerbread Man. First we made salt dough.

It was pretty sticky, but we make nice gingerbread men.
