A full page of Springtrap's "Anatomy" doodles for all you springlock enjoyers out there.
Initially I just wanted to draw a ref for myself, so I traced Springtrap's outline off of my laptop screen (twice) and drew over them. This was mostly done to 'get a feel' for the character since I wanted to get better at drawing them. Then I went ham adding details inspired by lore, springlock videos, and fan theories, along with some of my own ideas. I looked up multiple references for the endoskeleton too. Nakey Springtrap is funny.
Eventually I want to draw each layer properly in better detail, with in-depth descriptions, and do a better job of making sense of the springlock mechanism. Consider this a rough draft.
I went through and tidied up each and every letter and did my best to recreate the background from the preview. Also I inverted the colors and went with a blueprint style to mask the creepiness of the original, which can be seen below. vvv

did you guys know i'm a writer? yeah i had no idea either.
anyway, AMAPOLAS IN THE DESERT is a new short story (3.4k words) that just went up for free on patreon if anyone's feeling zesty and wants to read about a displaced latino roaming the american southwest, coming across a questionable watering hole, getting flirted with by trickster gods, and getting torn asunder by a trans woman who may or may not be a primordial deity.
but also, for like a whole $1, you can get access to a T4T sci-fi romance short (8k words) inspired by H.G. Wells' The Time Machine.
but also also, i've got a couple of nonfiction essays dropping next year where i set out to piss people off by arguing that their favorite pieces of media are grossly mis-categorized (in a fun and non-judgy way; and who knows, it might make it onto podcast or even video format if i can afford to outsource editing). among other things.

How painful would a Spring lock failure actually be?
Well according to the books it would be a “slow and painful death” however let’s take a more in depth look into it. Firstly how do you trigger the Spring locks? As most of you know water (as seen in the Bite of 83) and sudden movements (Stated by Charlie to Carlton in Silver Eyes) making the Spring Bonnie suit extremely dangerous and fatal by default if your not careful you WILL die.
What happened to William Afton exactly? He basically triggered the Spring locks due to rain leaking from the ceiling in an attempt to hide from the dead souls he had killed and didn’t notice until it was too late. The Spring Bonnie suit was now going into Animatronic mode which is why the Spring locks are going off due to the rain.
Now the big question is how painful is it? Let’s look at the target points of the Spring locks and determine where they are going into the body. According to a picture from the Silver Eyes book we can see David Miller (Book version of William Afton) having scars all over the majority of his body EXCEPT most of his head which is really important as that’s where the brain is. It’s even depicted in the games as on ScrapTrap his head and part of his brain is still visible and relatively undamaged.
Why is that important you may ask? Well when humans sustain injury it sends pain signals to the brain meaning if the users brain is intact they can still register all the pain administered by the Spring locks as they each slowly go of one by one into different parts of the body. If it isn’t already obvious than this would be EXCRUCIATINGLY painful.
Once the Spring locks start to go off the endoskeleton would start going into the users body completely shattering your arms and legs due to the extreme pressure. It would start of from the femur than domino effect to the pelvis and than to the lower abdomen. Now the Spring locks will start piercing through the users liver and stomach and then will move to the upper torso causing a spontaneous pneumothorax (lung collapse) as it starts filling with the users blood. The users scream will be cut of once the Spring locks go of on the neck severing the vocal cords and jugular causing the body to go limp as the user tries to scream however only gurgling sounds are heard as they start suffocating in their own blood. Spring Bonnie will also replace the users eyes with its own rendering them blind as the user eventually dies of blood lose or drowning in their own blood. UNLESS YOUR WILLIAM AFTON BECAUSE THAT MF KEEPS COMING BACK.
Another little fact is that the reason SpringTrap/William is so easy to trick with the sound of children is because of Spring Bonnie’s programming as William isn’t in full control here. Spring Bonnie is programmed to follow the sound of children and since it’s in Animatronic mode it’s forcing William to comply since he’s basically stuck inside it.
So to answer your question YES it would be unimaginably painful to die by Spring lock failure. (Purple Guy definitely deserved it tho)

Why Springtrap Follows The Audio
Many people question why Springtrap aka William Afton is so easy to trick with the audio, to the point people make jokes about it. This is because these people miss over the key information that explains this in the game itself.
In the night 2 recording in Five Nights At Freddy's 3 it's explained that the Fredbear and Springbonnie animatronics are programmed to follow the sound of kids. Springtrap is no longer in suit mode but is in animatronic mode, caused by the spring lock failure in the Follow Me mini games. While William is possessing Springtrap the animatronic will still act upon it's programming when it hears the audio go off.

Genuinely criminal Dee wasn't physically at the location where the Cool Cat suit was. I think she'd have been able to overlook the horrors of Cool Cat and love it bc Cat :)

anyways since security breach has been out for a while now i can say that i am forever salty that they didnt connect glamrock bonnie's decommisioning to vanny and made it so that she was wearing bonnie's suit as an homage to afton's bull. I think a shambling defunct animatronic chasing after you would have been really cool and possibly scarier

I said I would talk about this a little, so here it is.
Spring Bonnie was not the original. The springlock suits in general were a major advancement on standard animatronics, and William obviously had experience creating and working on a couple of animatronics before he could even dream of turning the idea of wearable suits into a reality. The original Golden Bonnie was simply an animatronic like any other, along with Fredbear (who, by default, is Henry's creation). You may occasionally hear me reference there being an "original Golden Bonnie costume" prior to the springlocks. Prior to the springlocks, William wore a costume à la Glitchtrap. It was based on Golden Bonnie, obviously, and retired once he had created Spring Bonnie. Still, there's a certain sentimentality toward it on William's part. Golden Bonnie is effectively retired as well with Spring Bonnie's creation. He sits in the repairs room, untouched save for a few times where he was brought out to replace Spring Bonnie when. . . necessary. As for whether or not he is sentient. . . Is he fueled with agony? Remnant? Is he possessed, just another body hidden in a suit? Who knows?

FNAF SPOILERS! SCROLL! TALKING ABOUT THE SPRINGLOCK SCENE!
i’ve seen so many people discussing the springlock scene in both negative and positive ways and i think it brings up really cool points about how matthew played that scene and balanced fan expectations with his own characterisation.
i think the discussions around this movie have rlly exposed the disconnect between fanon and canon in fnaf, especially talking abt the core games in isolation, bc frankly in the game universe (ignoring the books) we get Very Little characterisation for William other than the obvious, but Matthew managed to add so much in the way he talks and his body language.
in the reveal scene, we see afton at arguably his peak. in his first scene, he comes off as somewhat demeaning and judgemental until he recognises mike’s name, at which point he seems to have this nervous energy, rushing to cover it up but stumbling slightly, his reaction to the tables being turned even slightly is massive.
this is a man who committed multiple mrdrs in essentially broad daylight, hid the bodies in the most obvious place, and still got away with it, and then kept the crime scene as a trophy of his actions, and an ongoing prison sentence for his victims. he has been in complete control for decades, and is confident that he can deal with any kind of threat quickly. his confidence in his reveal is palpable
it changes when vanessa shoots him. the whole parallel with vanessa and the animatronics is hugely interesting too- how william refers to the animatronics almost endearingly as “kids” when he wants them to obey, how both vanny and the animatronics have an unearned loyalty to him, almost a pseudo-adoption through what he did to them, taking them from their parents and keeping them under his thumb, forever stuck as naive, forgiving, obedient children. vanessa breaking from that control shakes him, but the mask slips back into place almost immediately.
then, he’s outsmarted by the brother of one of his victims, and the child he planned to end next. his pseudo-children turn on him and he can no longer manipulate his appearance or shed his skin to escape. he explodes on them, and his language is incredibly telling that he is being dishonest.
he calls them small, trying to belittle them into submission, even though they are ten feet tall metal animatronics powered by rage. he is grasping at straws to regain control, and failing miserably.
finally, the springlocks go off. the locks in the movie look more like a ribcage, so the first two likely puncture his lungs. they’re slow, and painful, but he doesn’t scream or beg or sob. he grunts and groans, gritting his teeth and only letting out sounds of pain that sound almost involuntary. there is no way in hell he would visibly let himself show weakness or pain in front of these creatures that he believes he has control over. he isn’t brought to his knees until there are eight metal spikes embedded in his abdomen. he doesn’t let the mask fall for even a second, until he literally PUTS THE ACTUAL MASK ON and finally collapses. even then, he’s fighting for consciousness, twitching and writhing with no control over his body. william afton thrives on control, and his soul will not rest until he gets it back.
it’s why he keeps the pizzeria- he always comes back. he can’t help but return to the scene of the crime, putting on his old costume, continuing his killings. he revels in being a constant threat on the horizon. and now, he knows he is going to die, and he knows the suit will bring him back, and noone will be able to get rid of him then. so he puts the mask back on, and waits.
in terms of the sfx- they’re pretty accurate. with stab wounds, you need to leave the knife in the wound as long as possible for best chance of survival, as it stops the blood from escaping. in terms of the springlocks, there wouldn’t be copious amounts of blood as the locks are keeping the wounds filled- which is good because it means a slower, more painful death.
