Went to my local store to get some lunch & my favourite traybakes (caramel squares OMG). The shelf was being restocked by the person who owns the bakery that supply aforementioned treats so I commented that these are my favourite, and the best ones around. He seemed so genuinely surprised and happy with my compliment. HIs reaction kinda made my day too.

TLDR: Spread a little joy today.

rough art tips to learn and then break at your leisure.

the distance between your eyes is roughly one eye. the corners of your mouth dont extend past the middle of each eye. ears are roughly in the middle of the tip of the nose and the eyebrow. the eyes are in the very centre of the head. the neck is just a Little slimmer than the width of the head (varies with fat distribution, but fat tends to build up under the chin). hair is easier to draw when you plot out the hairline and then where it parts. leaving appropriate distance on the side of the face (cheekbone area and back to ear) contributes to making characters look more realistic/hot as hell. i dont know specific tips for that so use reference. an amazing reference/study site is lineofaction.com . if you think of the face in planes it makes it easier to construct (look up tutorials). if you draw a spiral like a tornado it can help you figure out awkward perspective for extended limbs (look up foreshortening coil technique). tangent lines are when two lines intersect and cause visual confusion (when it looks like a line that defines an arm is part of the line that defines a building, for example) and avoiding them makes your art way easier to comprehend. quick trick to good composition: choose a focal point (where you want your viewer to focus), detail that area the most, and make sure various elements of the piece are pointing to that focal point. you can use colours to contrast hue, saturation, and brightness and make certain elements of your drawing stand out. drawing in greyscale can help you figure out values. using black in a piece isn't illegal but you should know what you're doing when you do use it- it desaturates a piece and if used as a shading colour can desaturate and dull whatever youre shading too. if you use almost-black lineart and then add black to darken the very darkest areas it will do a lot to add some nice depth. the tip of your thumb ends just above the start of your index finger- your thumb also has two knuckles and all your other fingers have three. if you see an artist doing something you like (the way they draw noses or eyes or hair or anything else) you can try to copy that and see if you want to incorporate it in your style <- this is ENCOURAGED and how a lot of us learned and developed our styles. there are ways to add wrinkles to faces and bodies without making the character look a million years old, you just have to keep experimenting with it. The smile wrinkles around your muzzle dont connect to your mouth or to your nose; there should be a small space in between smile or nose and the wrinkle line. eyes when viewed in profile are like < aka a little triangle shape. think of the pupil like a disk and apply foreshortening to it (it looks like a line when seen from the side instead of a full round dot). subtle gradients can add a LOT to a piece. texture can also add a LOT. look up Tommy Arnold's work (his murderbot pieces are some of my FAVOURITE) and zoom in. find those random little circles he added and try to figure out why he added them there. light bounces. there's lots of way light bounces. sometimes it even spreads through the skin. i do not know these light tricks yet but i want you to know that they exist. draw a circle to indicate hand placement, draw a straight line between that circle and the shoulder, and then (normally at a right angle) draw a straight line on top of that line to find the placement of the elbow. elbows are normally placed Just above the hip when standing and your arm is at rest. there are no bad colour combos if you're brave enough about it, just fuck with the saturation and brightness until it works. keep playing. try new things. add your own tips to this post if you want or even expand on some ive mentioned here. good luck go ham etc

to the customer who first told me they didnt know my book was a preorder, and didnt know i wrote an estimated shipping date on my faq, and if they knew earlier they wouldnt have bought it because it was for their niece's birthday which has now passed:

you wrote back again recently asking for updates when i previously mentioned it would take the same 2-3 weeks. i cant even send you your order beforehand because i didnt even have the books. but when i finally did i sent out your copy the next day instantly. i dont understand why you filed a paypal claim (under "item not received") against me on the same day i shipped out your order. and you even lied about me on the dispute notes which i can obviously read on my end. you asked for shipping info in which i cant even really send anything because you actively chose not to have your package tracked, and you are never satisfied with any answer i had my friends give you :(

i implore you to just reach out to me personally here but you dont even reply to emails anymore. if you feel vindicated bullying a small artist trying to share their works to people then you've did it because i give up.

[14] What does it take to make them laugh, and what does their laugh sound like? 👀

(imagining other people’s ocs laughing always spark a bit of joy!)

I saved this because I've got a little story for it!!!

Due to being Drow and having to live in that society they unfortunately don't know much joy. Laughter is more often associated with cruelty or irony.

Viedyn might laugh while pinning Durafein against the ground after a failed ambush attempt. Imagine having a little brother who's adept at hiding in the shadows. There's some antics there. So Viedyn may laugh but it's a smug sort of "haha, nice try." It would be a low sort of humming laugh.

BUT I'VE GOT JOY FOR YOU!

After the fall of their house Durafein retreated to the surface disguised as an Elf. In that world Drow are met with instant hostility so it's a matter of survival. Through a series of unfortunate events he winds up teamed with a Dwarf, Goblin, and Half-Elf. They find themselves outside of a Drow hideout on the surface!

The Half-Elf having zero experience with Drow, suggests they disguise themselves as Drow and go through the front door.

The Dwarf and Goblin begin to list all the reasons why that's a bad idea but Durafein put his hand on the Dwarfs shoulder and said "No, let this play out."

So they watched silently while she came up with a disguise.

(we were crying laughing at the table because rolls were going badly and the DM saying "Ah...so what are you doing about the grey skin?" And the "oh fuck..." Of realization and despair broke all of us)

To properly illustrate how this disguise turned out, here's a gif:

Wearing her awful disguise, the Half-Elf asks "aren't you coming with me?"

Durafein, already suppressing a smirk, because he's basking in the irony of being a Drow in disguise looking at an awful Drow disguise replies "No, I think you've got this."

The events from the perspective of Durafein and the others play out as follows - The Half-Elf walks up to the entrance of the Drow hideout. She KNOCKS on the door as if she's selling buttons. The door opens. A small dart appears in her neck. She drops like a sack of potatoes. A gloved hand grabs her ankle and she's unceremoniously drug inside. The door slams shut.

The Goblin collapsed, screaming laughing and kicking his feet. The Dwarf was doubled over crying laughing. Durafein laughed so hard that even he had to brace himself with his hands on his knees. He'd never laughed like that before in his life. It was a rich sort of laugh with clear breaks that give it a kind of melody.

He eventually straightened himself out and said "Alright, let's go get her."

So it was at someone else's expense. But it brought him great joy and he rode that high for weeks.

12. Swap au?

AU where Kou becomes the seventh mystery and Amane becomes his assistant (In retrospect his assistant probably should’ve been Mitsuba but I was on a Hanakou ROLL)!! I enjoy this concept a lot but I'll admit its not the most thought out idea so don't expect much lmao

Kou is now Number 7 of the roof top: Nariko-San! Hanako said not many people know how to summon him but I think it’s pretty lame excuse? I mean if getting a wish granted was as easy as knocking on a bathroom door I feel like way more people would do it yk!! The more powerful the apparition, the harder it should be to summon. So to up the ante, Nariko’s rumor is ‘if you go out on the roof top on a rainy day and lean over the railing while chanting ‘Nariko-San, Nariko-San, save me' She just might make your wish come true' and of course the "price to pay" here is the risk of losing your life yk

Amane is crazy enough to be the first to summon him. His wish is something along the lines of him wanting to ‘live among the stars' or something equally as emo and blah blah when he finally summons him, Nariko appears in a streak of lightning and instantly pulls Amane back in. Amane expected a more grim figure with a matching God-like disposition but Nariko shows immediate concern, dispelling any previous expectations.

I'm not exactly sure how or why but eventually instead of a mermaid scale Amane swallows a bird feather? He turns into an owl and Nariko has to fight off a harpy, stating those are "angels" who use avian creatures as their 'eyes'. When the harpy is finally gone, Nariko eats the other feather and makes Amane promise not to randomly fly off and leave (because people care about him yadda yadda). Now anytime Amane gets flustered/agitated or sneezes, he turns into his owl form.

Teru is Nariko’s Tsukasa so to speak. His personality is sort similar mother Gothel from Tangled where he's more emotionally manipulative than violent/extreme like Tsukasa. Anyways Tiara grows up without her siblings. One of the only things I’ve written for this AU is Nariko grappling with that guilt so stay tuned for that <3

I’ll be so honest I was only here to max out on the shipping potential so I didn’t think about other characters' roles though too much lol. I've been aching to write the beginnings of this au so I can cash in on the weird Teru and Nariko dynamic later but as you can tell my ideas are a little scatterbrained with some bits of info missing here and there.

I understand people have body image issues but like. It's kinda rude to call someone a liar and a bunch of names for telling you you're pretty. Like. It's not up to you what other's see when they look at you. It's fine if you don't see what they see but being mean to people is uncalled for. You don't even have to say thank you. Just don't be mean.

mmmmm, I tend to forget that tumblr could be a place where I actually, you know, write blog posts and whatnot. like i used to back on dreamwidth. about fannish and nonfannish things. or even hiccup out more of my short-form whimsy like I used to on twitter. I mean I'm still generally blogging about nonfannish things at my dreamwidth and talking occasionally about my vid projects there since that's where I've always chattered about those wips. I don't bother really talking about my witcher wips over there. but tumblr has taken up this space in my head as space where I glom onto all the pretty posts like beloved scrapbooking material and stuff my queue for a whole year. and just rolling around in the ask games and wip posts from everyone else. not writing more posts of my own. me writing posts here...a thing I want to do and yet I don't. I have a giant list of half-written recs posts and other fannish and nonfannish things waiting for me to finish. but my brain keeps stalling out because of a lot of reasons (stress life stuff fucking with my focus). but this has been on my mind.
