I'm so happy you've reopened your requests 😃 Could you please do one where Richard M and his gf (reader) go kayaking but he keeps falling in the water and she's teasing him about it, but also make it fluffy? Pretty please 🙏
sure thing love
—————————————————
“You know the kayak’s there for you to sit in, right?” Y/N asked through peals of laughter as Richard bobbed back up to the surface of the river.
He gasped for air and pulled a face at Y/N as he grabbed onto his kayak and began to swim with it back to the river bank.
“Shut up,” he groaned, panting as he emptied the water from it. Y/N chuckled and pulled off her spraydeck, getting out of her kayak to aid Richard in sorting his out.
“This was your idea,” Y/N pointed out, placing her hands on the kayak to support it with Richard, who groaned.
“Don’t remind me,” he moaned and Y/N laughed again, leaning over to peck his lips.
“You’re doing fine,” Y/N promised. “I mean, you haven’t drowned, have you?”
“Not yet,” Richard grumbled, though there was a grin toying at his lips.
“Come on, Rich, you just need to balance,” Y/N instructed.
“Wow! Balance? I hadn’t thought of that before,” Richard exclaimed, rolling his eyes as they placed the kayak back in the water. Y/N laughed and hit his arm playfully.
“I’m just saying!”
“Oh no, your advice is so valid, completely new, nothing I’ve ever thought of before. Honestly. Balance - that’s a whole new concept to me,” Richard continued, his eyebrows raised, though he was clearly trying hard not to laugh at Y/N’s reactions of groaning and hitting him gently.
“I was just trying to help!” She argued. Richard wrapped his arm around her shoulder and brought her in for a kiss.
“I know you were, love, and thanks. This just isn’t really my thing I don’t think,” Richard chuckled, kissing her again.
“You don’t say.”

A surprise parcel landed at Unsponsored HQ this week, a brand new 2017 Palm Impact spray skirt. We’ve had an older one of these in at the HQ a couple of years back and it proved to be an awesome skirt.
The Palm Impact spray skirt is Palm’s top end bungee corded offering.
For 2017 Palm have updated the design so that it now includes a few tweaks.
The RRP is £99.
The biggest change has to the be the inclusion of the the 3/4 dry lip around the front portion of the skirt.
The gripsil coating on the underside of the skirt is now present on only the sides.
The brightly coloured quick release webbing also has a narrow piece of tape and a QR buckle attached so that you deck can be fastened to your PFD and out of the way whilst portaging etc.
One of the big features on the deck is on the body tube. The bulk of the tube is pretty standard but at the top edge the neoprene cinches in, Palm call this the O ring. This helps create a really good seal between your body and the deck. It’s a simple feature but it works really well without feeling restrictive in any way.
Seams are triple glued‚ blind stitched and Melco taped.
This little patch is a nice touch. everything thing seams really well put together, however the edge of the skirt is no longer constructed with a 4mm Armortex reinforcement.
Specification:
The Impact is our premium shockcord deck for whitewater freestyle paddling. Burly 9.5 mm shockcord holds it in place‚ and the seamless O-ring seal keeps the waist tube where you want it. The Nytex reinforced rim shrugs off wear and tear‚ and a three-quarter dry lip seals water out.
3 mm nylon Jersey CR neoprene deck Nytex and Supratex CR neoprene rim Jersey and mesh neoprene waist 3/4 length dry-lip 3 dimensional deck shape Sticky Gripsil on cockpit lining 9.5mm elastic shockcord double sewn

An introduction guide to packrafting
This guide is merely a short personal introduction to packrafting, a still fairly unknown outdoor activity which is easy to get started and creates amazing opportunities to discover and adventure.
Tumblr media
The idea
While pack rafting has existed for some years - especially in the US and Alaska where it started in the 1980s, it seems that it started to gain more traction of the last couple of years, following the rise of interest in lightweight adventuring.
A packraft is a super light, small boat designed to be used either in still water or whitewater that is portable enough to be carried in a backpack or similar. Given those characteristics, it’s perfectly suitable a wide range of activities, from simple river crossing to multi days adventures mixing rafting with sports.   Packrafting is not only a water sport among other but a real philosophy on how to adventure and discover the wilderness that relies on three core principles:
1. Go light 2. Improvise 3. Paddle quietly
Go light
The idea behind pack rafting is to have a boat that can be taken anywhere in the backcountry. It fits in a back pack or attached to a mountain bike, weights around 3kg and can be inflated/deflated in a few minutes. With progress made in all range of gears (sleeping bags, tents, …), it’s now possible to pack for a multi-days adventure in a small size backpack (50 liter or so) with packraft, paddle, life jacket and overnight equipment.
Tumblr media
Improvise
Packrafting adventures will challenge your improvisation in multiple ways. You will need to find ways to deal with unexpected events when alone in the backcountry (repaire a paddle, find a way to put a tent up in on rocky beach…) but you will also have the privilege to improvise where to go at all time. Given how portable a packrat is, you can draw your own itinerary and decide at the last minute whether you would rather paddle or hike a given section along the water. You can get in and out of the water at any time (as opposed to a larger raft or a regular kayak where you need support from a vehicle to  take it home) - a unique feeling of autonomy will appear as you make your first trips.
Tumblr media
Paddle quietly
The last and most important principle of pack rafting is to respect the wilderness and to adventure with the lowest possible impact on the nature. You won't need motorised vehicle and will have a light footprint on the places you visit, which means pack rafting is allowed in most protected areas and national parks (still, make sure no special regulation exists depending on your location).
How to get started
The minimum required equipment consists of a packrat, a life-jacket and a paddle (ideally one that separate in 4 or 2 pieces).
A few different manufacturers sell packraft and I’ve had the chance to try one of the MSR boats, kindly provided by Packraft Sweden.  This boat weights only 3.4kg and has an integrated spraydeck which makes sure water doesn’t get into the boat. I’ve tested it mostly on still water (lakes and sea archipelago) and it worked really well, easy to paddle, stable and possible to load camping gear on the front.
Starting on still water requires almost no training: inflate the boat and get out on the water, learn how to move forward and orientate the raft and you will see in no time that you have a good control of the boat. When waves and wind appear, make sure you are comfortable paddling against the wind before going to far from the shore.
Tumblr media
The next step is to start going down rivers and whitewater sections. While some are easy to go on your own, others will require advance technique and a guide. Always make sure you control your boat well enough and knowing the area you’re paddling into !
That’s it. It’s as simple as this - get hold of a packrat and start enjoying the wilderness right away. Somehow we all live near a water area (sea, lake, river) and there are a lot of amazing opportunities to explore in your local area, so go ahead and discover pack rafting.
Adventuring has never been so exciting!
Below are some images of a few trips across Swedish lakes and the well-known Stockholm archipelago. Taking advantage of the amazing summer nights, I could reach small and remote islands, discover places unreachable without a small boat and spend more time in the wilderness. A true dream for outdoor lovers.

Learning to paddle a sea kayak
Learning to paddle a sea kayak
I’ve been kayaking before. I’ve been kayaking on the sea before – in fact, I’ve only ever been kayaking on the sea. But this post is about learning to kayak on a closed cockpit sea kayak with a spraydeck. The reason is there’s a thing I wanted to do but it’s only available to groups in double open kayaks. They have single kayaks for groups with odd numbers but they don’t want you to book as an…

Kayaking for Women: The Essential Skills
Are you a woman interested to learn more about kayaking? You came to the right place. We are here to extend a helping hand. In the rest of this short post, we’ll talk about the essential skills that you need to learn. As a beginner, it is intimidating at first. Nonetheless, as you have more practice, you will realize that it is nothing that you cannot handle. With determination and discipline, it won’t take long before you’ll be able to master the fundamentals of kayaking.
Kayaking for Women: The Essential Skills
1. Getting In and Out of the Kayak
2. Sitting in Your Kayak
3. Stretching Before and After You Kayak
4. Putting on a Spraydeck
5.The Wet Exit
Wrap Up
1. Getting In and Out of the Kayak
This is the first thing that women need to learn. Before you master the basic strokes, you first need to make sure that you can get in and out of the kayak. It might seem easy in theory, but in practice, it is more complicated than it sounds. It is easy to lose your balance. Worse, you can get wet, and this is a frustrating situation you surely won’t want to experience.
It is easy to get in your kayak if you have a good launching spot. All that you have to do is to put your kayak in the shallowest part of the sand. Sit on the kayak and slightly move it forward using your body. Push the kayak using your hands and paddle away.
If the kayak is already floating on the water, getting in is a bit more challenging. First, stand on one side of the kayak. Lift your foot on the other side. Straddle to balance. Use your hand to support your body. Sit comfortably and paddle the kayak.
To get out of the kayak, all that you have to do is to paddle to the shallowest part. Once you are on the sand or shallow part of the water, put your two hands on the boat, slightly on your back. Push yourself, stand up, and move out of the kayak.
If the shoreline is uneven, this is the time that you have to put your paddle into good use. Position your kayak parallel to the shoreline. Put the paddle in the back part of the kayak. At this point, half of the paddle will be on the boat and the other one will be on the shore. This will give you a place to hold as you position your body and get in the kayak.
2. Sitting in Your Kayak
Via: https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/getting-started-kayaking.html
Now that you are in your kayak, the next thing that you need to learn is how to sit properly. This is important to be comfortable throughout the paddling time and to keep your balance.
While it is important to stay relaxed while you are sitting down, this does not mean that you have to slouch and sit as if you are lounging. If you lean your back, this can cause you to lose balance and may also make you feel uncomfortable. This makes you easily tired.
As you sit, see to it that your back is straight and your chin is up. You need the right posture to keep your balance. Use the backrest to help position yourself properly once you are in the kayak. This must provide the support your back needs.
3. Stretching Before and After You Kayak
It is also crucial that you learn the basics of stretching. This prepares your body for the physical demands of kayaking before you start. Meanwhile, stretching after kayaking allows your muscles to recover and minimizes the likelihood that your body will be painful.
Stretching is crucial for longevity when paddling. With the right exercises, your muscles will have the power it needs to paddle efficiently and quickly without worrying about body aches once you are done kayaking. Low lunges and thigh stretches are some of the best exercises that will improve the paddling skills of women. Kayaking is physically demanding, so your body must be ready for it.
4. Putting on a Spraydeck
This is one of the things that will come handy when you are kayaking. A spraydeck is a flexible skirt made of waterproof material. The main goal is to prevent water from getting on the boat while you are kayaking. This also prevents your lower body from being wet.
Learning how to put it on properly is another crucial kayaking skill women need to learn. First, make sure that you are comfortable as you sit in the kayak. Slightly lean back so that you can start putting the skirt on the back part of the kayak. Move to your hips until you reach the front part of the cockpit. Once you are done, make sure that the pull cord is outside the spray skirt, which will make it easy to take off once you are getting out of the kayak.
5.The Wet Exit
youtube
This is a mandatory skill that every kayaker needs to learn. This is one of the first things that you will learn. It is crucial for your safety as it teaches the basics of getting out of the kayak when it capsizes. Speed and presence of mind are two of the most important to avoid risking yourself under the water.
If you already feel that the boat is going to capsize, stay calm and try to prevent the kayak from flipping. While holding your paddle, lean as forward as you can. This makes it easier to exit.
Once the kayak already capsizes, remove the spray skirt first then think about removing yourself off the kayak. Position your hands next to your hips. Put your knees together and disengage. Push the coaming and propel forward. As long as you are wearing a life vest, you will float. This makes it important to always wear a flotation device as a safety measure.
Now that you are above the water, think about is how to save your kayak. If you lose your paddle, retrieve it. Grab the boat and right it, which will return it to its original position. Work on your way to get back on the boat with the help of your paddle. Your arm strength is also crucial as it will support your body to avoid losing your balance.
Wrap Up
Take note of the skills mentioned above if you are a woman learning how to kayak. These are just some of the essentials you need to learn. There are other things that you need to know, such as paddling strokes and rescue techniques. However, they are more advanced and it is best to move into these kayaking fundamentals only once you mastered the basics.

Little Shredder Tim from Germany talks about Hurley Classic
Hurley Classics – H30
Legendary competition on the Thames in London
The competition season started this year with a highlight.
On 16 and 17 March 2019 the legendary Hurley Classics took place on the Thames in London. This competition is popular and well-known among whitewater racers all over the world. There were Paddler from UK, Spain, Poland and Germany.
The Classics consist of many individual competitions. I competed in the disciplines Freestyle and BoaterX.
But first the Youngguns Meet the stars took place on Saturday. Here the participating kids were divided into different groups and coached by several professionals. I was very happy to be in the group with Bren Orton and Harry Price. Both were really very nice and we got a lot of good tips.
On Saturday afternoon the BoaterX took place. Since the track wasn’t very long, the organizers came up with a few things to make the whole thing more interesting. It was started classically from the BoaterX ramp. I must admit, this is really fun! Among other things we had to surf through the wave to the other side of the river, do some slalom in the rough water around buoys, open and close the spraydeck while driving, get out of the boat at a certain point and throw the paddle through a hanging ring and catch it again. Since there was only one men’s ranking in this category, I am more than satisfied with my 23rd place in the overall ranking of over 80 participants.
On Sunday the freestyle competition took place. There were over 180 participants in all age groups and skill levels at the start. However, many participants also mean a long day of competition. It started in session jam in groups of 10 starters per heat. Since it rained a lot the day before, the conditions were very difficult. The wave was very flush’s. The first disappointment about my run was quickly forgotten and in the end I was very happy with my achieved 324 points and the first place in one of the junior categories.
It was a really great start into the season and I am looking forward to many beautiful and exhausting paddling days this year!
After all, I want to tell you, that the Hurley Classic is for me one of the very best competitions and I really want to come back in 2020.

Apple looks into crumb-proof technology for future keyboards
Apple looks into crumb-proof technology for future keyboards
Crumb-proof keyboards may be on the horizon after Apple filed a patent for new designs. Digging out remnants of your lunch – or a cheeky mid-morning biscuit – from your keyboard could become a thing of the past, with the patent describing different keyboard designs which will “prevent contaminant ingress”. Skirts or flaps could be used to protect the edges of keys – similar to the spraydeck of a…

Bushranger 4.3m plastic semi-enclosed canoe suitable for 2 or 3 people - Australia's Favourite Canoe!
The Bushranger is the biggest selling canoe in Australia! And when you see the conditions the Bushranger is expected to perform under, it is easy to see why.
The tough polyethylene construction will withstand the roughest of conditions (human and environmental), and makes the Bushranger virtually maintenance free. This is great news for hire operators, as more time on the water means more money in your pocket!
The Bushranger is used by more schools, scout groups and hire operators than any other canoe, with its popularity due to the Bushranger's reputation for being very safe and extremely reliable.
The Bushranger is also very popular with growing families. It can be used for a family fun day on the water or a fishing trip, and there is space to store supplies for a few nights camping on the river.
Great on flat water, the Bushranger is also suitable to use in white water (up to grade 2 rapids) and the generous cockpit combing allows for spraydecks to be attached securely.
The reputation for being a versatile canoe that is safe, reliable and exceptional value for money will see that the Bushranger continues to be Australia's Most Popular Canoe.
A 2 seater can be converted to a 3 seater at a later date.
Bushranger Specifications: Length:  4.3m Width:  85cm Depth:  41cm Weight:  2 seater = 36kg             3 seater = 42kg   Capacity:  260kg (Depending on water conditions)

... and then I got my Explore Award!
… and then I got my Explore Award!
If you haven’t read Monday’s post on how I fared with my Discover Award, go and read that now. Then come back here and see how the Explore Award went. I said last time that Antz wanted me to do a bow rescue, to hang upside down under a closed cockpit kayak and that I really wasn’t keen. So Antz said we’d build up to it. I’d learn to paddle a closed cockpit without a spraydeck and we’d try to get…
