if you like shaky pictures of she-ra merchandise then boy do i have the post for you!

was fortunate enough to get it in the original packaging! something very..... something about 'not intended for children' here, especially since they sent them out to like, a bunch of mommy bloggers, but that's fine. that's whatever.

This little card insert came included, along with some contact information that I've redacted because god only knows what one could do with that.

The statuette is in three pieces, the base, the figure, and her arm+sword.

the pose is pretty obviously just a recreation of the illustration on the box--you can see where the translation to three dimensions fell flat (heheheh) in the hair and cape. The cape came out with more volume than the illustration, while the hair is sort of... squashed, I guess?

also. and this may be a me problem. but her limbs are skinnier than in the illustration, and I feel personally attacked by that.

The figure attaches to the base with a basic peg-in-hole situation in her left foot--it's a good fit. I had to wiggle it a little to get it loose & I didn't care for that but I expect most people aren't going to be keeping theirs in the packaging.

please ignore the kitten hair it's kind of impossible to stage anything in this house atm without it

initially I thought they'd left out the details in her crown-wing-things, but no, they're there--the lines are just very shallow. I'd say it would have benefit from some touch-ups in black but...

the details aren't great. like not terrible by any means--the sculpt is flawless, if we accept that She-Ra isn't shredded & her hair is deflating from one of its magic flares. but there's some overspill on the paint--the gold seems to have been plated on over a flesh-colored base, which left the gaps between her fingers untouched but spilled over on the top of her middle and index fingers. The runestone, too, colored outside the lines a bit, but since the etching is so shallow it's only noticeable if you really look.

is it perfect? no. but it's leagues better than the other merch imo :/ huge thank you to @n7punk for accidentally alerting me of this thing's existence in time to buy it! nobody needs to do the math on how much i spent just don't even worry about it

Hey all,

You may have heard EU GPSR regulations are coming into play December 13th. Like many small sellers, I think I'll have to stop selling in the EU for the time being. I really hate to do this, but I'm a very small seller with a lot of other work on my plate, so this is what is feasible at the moment.

hi so this is a weird ask but your like the only active person ive seen talk about antis and their takes so youre the only one i can think of sending this to and i just need to know itm not insane

i just saw an anti say that catras hair is straight? (they were talking about those action dolls and showed a twitter post of (presumably) a spop fan being like "where are her curls" because the catra doll has straight hair)

and i just ?? like, theres. theres no way that catras hair is straight? right? like im not just insane? theres no way that straight hair gets that type of volume?? maybe its not curly but her hair is straight up poofy. like its the size of her head before it gets cut and we can see how it sticks out at multiple points. only thing i can imagine pointing towards straight hair is how it looks when shes chipped but even then it looks like its wet, like either she was fresh off of primes zap pool or just full of hair gel, it still looks like it could be wavy for the rest of season 5. im sorry if this is weird i didnt sleep yesterday and needed to know if im crazy

i have not... seen them say that? just that glimmer's skin is too yellow. and that bow is the "black best friend" trope. and that adora is coded as a white savior. which i won't speak on anything from the list because i'm white. the point is i've seen a lot (that tiktok has haunted me for 2, nearly 3, years so make of it what you will) but that wasn't one of those things.

the first thing i want to get out of the way is that if it's a doll or toy, whether it's official merch or not... i wouldn't count that as an issue with the show itself because it's not portrayed in canon. not to say that it isn't something to criticize, just that you'd be focusing on the wrong aspect because the show wouldn't be what's problematic in this case, the company and/or executive producers would be.

that being said, i agree that catra's hair isn't naturally straight. i specify naturally because in season four she decides to give it a makeover that makes it look less like a wild, messy mane and more like a long, flowy human imitation style ─ hence part of the reason she cut off her tufts. the other reason is... well, this moment:

anyway, i've seen lots of fanart that makes her hair curly. this is one of my favorite examples, as well as these screenshot edits by @/yourfavisblck (now deactivated unfortunately, so i reuploaded but can take them down if necessary). she's apparently canonically latina-coded, but also is sometimes interpreted as afro-latina. i hope that's a more obvious re-imagination for ya if you're looking for one!

I have to actively suppress the urge to read the synopses of the episodes at this point

oh also lol this is just funny to me, I saw a post Elsewhere Online where someone watched all of spop the first time and they HATED the dumb names everyone has, and I think they mentioned Castaspella specifically.

And like FIFTY PEOPLE responded with "dude they had to use the original names from the 1980's series" and I was the only one there old enough to have watched the original series and I had to point out: the original series was made to sell toys. The vast majority of cartoons in 1985 were only made to sell toys. They gave everyone those dumbass names because it was easy for kids to remember and beg for the toys."

That's also why all the female characters in the original series have the exact same body type. Yeah the body shape itself was due to 1980's-era sexism, but also? It was so much cheaper to animate the show AND make the toys that way!

But also, it's hella ironic to me that the 2018 show has so little official merch!

their conversation here is so good, because Catra's fully aware of why Adora's doing this, but is really struggling to push past how much she (justifiably!) hates Shadow Weaver and hates being around her

I actually do kinda wish I'd kept a list of all the times Adora does the self-sacrificial thing, separated into "someone asked her to do it" vs "nobody asked her to do it" lol

two things I really love about this: One, she doesn't say that she doesn't like Adora, just that it's not the reason she's going. Two, I feel like Adora knows damn well Catra's not being 100% honest here.

Like, to some extent Catra's saying this as a way of attempting to protect herself a little. She's taking baby steps towards vulnerability, and it's terrifying! And I think Adora can see that and is fine with it--not JUST because she's like "any crumbs are better than nothing" but ALSO because she doesn't want to push Catra.

Because yeah, if there was any actual doubt that Catra does like Adora--

WELL.

Entrapta was able to get Spinerella's chip out but says it had started fusing with her nervous system and they're running out of time to safely un-chip everyone.

But she's been digging around the network that connects all the chips to Prime, hoping to figure out how to disconnect everyone at once, and Bow gives her a little encouragement, it's really sweet.

OKAY so everyone who can, teleports to Mystacor with Melog making them invisible. (Apparently Catra doesn't get motion sick from it anymore which is nice lol)

Catra turns around and says "looks like there's no sorcerers here" while, unfortunately, a sorcerer walks into the room. Shadow Weaver grabs Catra and puts her hand over her mouth to keep her quiet, and Catra (understandably!! but unfortunately!!) jerks away in fury and yells

And her fury causes Melog to drop the invisibility

And now the chipped sorcerer knows they're all there

they manage to duck the attack but Adora goes to transform into She-Ra--and can't do it

she had this issue last episode aaaugh it's not from being near Shadow Weaver she wasn't there

okay but also Adora runs behind a pillar to hide from an attack with Catra and it's cute

girl help why is this giving me so many emotions

y'know it's funny how often I've bumped into posts of people who are confused as to why Adora starts trusting Catra again so quickly, and I frequently wonder if they forget all the childhood flashback scenes of these two. To varying extents they both spent their entire childhoods seeing the other as their only consistent source of comfort and (something resembling) safety, and with some notable exceptions Adora's spent the last four seasons (which was like three or four years) visibly holding out hope that one day she could trust Catra again. This despite the fact that she now has other sources of safety and comfort and love!!! Being with Glimmer and Bow and everyone else was healing, sure; but it never erased her grief over losing Catra. She always, always held out the tiniest flame of hope that Catra would change sides.

And Catra basically tried lighting her own grief on fire (metaphorically and kinda literally) over and over and it just didn't go away, and I feel like when she saved Glimmer and apologized to Adora she had sort of come to terms with the fact that her grief over losing Adora couldn't be burned away, but of course by then she figured she'd fucked up so bad Adora would never forgive her or trust her again. And rather than take it out on other people or suffer any longer she was willing to just die, instead. She really did think that sending Glimmer to Adora was going to be her last act, and she wanted Adora to know she was sorry before she fucking DIED. And I don't think her saving Glimmer was consciously meant to be proof that she meant her apology, but it was. And that's part of why Adora trusts her again.

The fact is, even after everything that happened, both of them had a hole in their hearts shaped like the other. ;_;

And that's why Adora runs and hides behind the same pillar as Catra. (I mean yes, it was also closer, but that's not tHE POINT)

Anyway, this is all why, as I previously noted, Adora's not being pushy. That failed on her, spectacularly; the couple of times she tried it. Asking Catra to come along on this mission is the closest she's come. And even then, it wasn't "you're a good person deep down and you should change sides because I think I know you better than you know yourself," It was "please do this for me, because I need your help." And Catra is fully aware of how hard that is for Adora.

And these two still have a lot to work out post-canon (like, Catra has still got to deal with her need to not just be seen as Adora's sidekick/shadow, and lbh right now some of the rebellion is like "we're only putting up with you for Adora's sake" as if Catra was Yoko Ono) but that's part of why I'm writing a fic lolol

I have so many feelingssss on a related note I spent like fifteen solid minutes last night in bed having taken an edible and listening to my playlist and staring at this gifset lolol

ANYWAY Castaspella knocks out the chipped dude and they run for it

i've talked about this show on my main blog and how it always bugged me the way they romanticized abuse because it was a girl doing to a boy...

and that one show is pucca. yeah. pucca. (putting this under the cut if you don't want to read me ranting about a show no one really thinks about nowadays lmao)

i was the biggest pucca fan as a kid, i still have some merch with me. like i have some good childhood memories. i loved the shorts when they aired on jetix, and i was very enthusiastic for the full series they made in 2007/08. like i still love most of the characters to this day, like garu (i had a little crush on him lol), tobe and his ninja goons, abyo... they were all so funny and memorable.

but the main character, pucca? i just can't like her anymore. YES, i'm very aware she's a kid. she's like 10. i get it. i don't want horrible things happening to her or anything.

but honestly, even when i was a kid, younger than pucca even, it always bothered me how garu was the punchbag in most episodes. and the worst part is, he was always pucca's victim. at least the 2007/08 pucca cartoon romanticized stalking. pucca does the absolute worst things to get garu's attention, usually by kissing him without his consent or even outright kidnapping him, even though garu in this series never showed that he liked pucca back. EVER. if that ever happened, it was never the real garu, or he would be under some magical effect. all garu wanted was to be a ninja and go fishing or whatever. once he even preferred GOING TO JAIL than to be with pucca.

still, the show tries to shove down your throat that pucca and garu were meant to be and all the other characters encourage pucca to keep pursuing garu. none of the adults, not even pucca's uncles/guardians, try to tell her that like. kissing your crush without their consent is wrong. they just think it's cute. because she's a little girl.

to this day, when i see ppl talking about this show, they still romanticize pucca and garu's relationship. and it's really fucked up. like i know i saw through it when i was younger, but it concerns me that other kids probably didn't have the same realization, and the new fans won't either. i very rarely find people calling out the issues with pucca, and when they do, they will always be harassed by a legion of fans saying "it's just a kids show". one person even assumed i hated kids for some goddamn reason.

i know it might seem random mentioning pucca here, since it's very different from spop (pucca is definitely not on catra's level), but the fans always use the same arguments, that it's a kids show and we don't understand "true love". also because the abuser here is a girl, and to many people, women can never be abusers. (unless you're Evil and "ugly" like shadow weaver tho)

no yeah, i think pucca is in a very similar state as spop. no one thinks there's anything wrong with the main pairings. even though pucca is like, a decade older than spop, i find the fandoms very similar. they simply gloss over abuse because both pucca and spop do not take the abuse seriously. garu and adora are treated like jokes, or prizes to be earned by pucca and catra.

it's pretty disgusting.
