DCA Promptober Day 6: Hues

Content Warning: Implied mentions of blood/injury, reader discresion is advised.

I'll be making a very pretty piece of art to go with a very NOT pretty piece of writing, what can I say, it's what I do best (I draw yah in and then BAM pain) Anywho, enjoy!

Light is such an interesting thing. How it captivates, illuminates. How its able to provide so much to the human eye, to all eyes for that matter. How it reassures you.

How it tricks you.

Blinds you.

Harms you. Unintentional or not. 

Light is a gift that can hurt. Can wound.

Just as it's doing to you now.

You hadn't meant to mess up, though no one ever does, you could argue. You'd just wanted to help. To talk. To understand.

Sun had warned you, countless times, to be fair. You had never believed him. Something about needing to see things for yourself. And you had, oh, you had.

You don't think it had been intentional, certainly not malicious. You knew Moon. You knew what he was like. Even if he had hurt you, something deep in your gut told you that it hadn't been his fault.

You know, the Attendant was a great example of light and how it shifted. Specifically the hues they represented.

Yellow. Blue.

Fun and adventure, fits of giggles and play.

Yellow. Blue. 

Cool and quiet, peace and rest.

Yellow. Blue.

You hadn't realized how deeply your care for the two had grown until you'd decided to drive back tonight and tell them. Though first, you had to deal with why Moon had been hiding for so long, why Sun had insisted on no naps and no lights off. You'd quickly gotten the answer to that.

Yellow. Blue.

Yellow. Blue.

Purple.

Black.

White.

Red.

There's so much red in your vision now. It's practically all you can see. It's to the point you can’t differentiate what's dripping into your vision and what's actually on your shaking hands. 

You can see movement in front of you, glancing up slightly you see it's indeed who you thought it would be. They're panicking, more worried than you are about what's been done. You can't hear them. 

It's causing the two of them to continuously flip back and forth. It's almost, comforting, to witness, even if you know it's anything but. Maybe because the idea they both care soothes you. Maybe it's because you can still make out the shifting hues beneath the heavy, heavy red.

Yellow. Blue. Yellow. Blue.

Your eyes feel heavy.

Yellow. Blue. Yellow. Blue. 

You don't want to close them, but know you don't have much a choice.

Yellow. Blue. Yellow. Blue. 

You smile through the pain. Maybe things will be okay when you wake up.

Yellow. Blue. 

Black.

Brush used for the bloodstains!

I have made a couple of adjustments to this old work, it now looks a bit more readable? I realized I don't do well with dark backgrounds because I could not tell how dark it is, if it's to the point I could not see anything. 😅😅😅 Which sucks, there are so much ideas to work with dark scenes. 😓 I hope to improve on this faster, figuring out a technique so I don't have to make it a habit of going back on a supposed finished drawing just to make it clearer.

This is the very first original Scooby-Doo instrumental opening theme by Ted Nichols, before they switched it to the one we know. I do like this version, but it sets up a really eerie mood when played for the opening. It definitely fit the title card for each episode well though.

For RINGS OF POWER WEEK 2023: Day two: favourite musical theme

Where the Shadows Lie, all vocals by me, with @niennawept joining in for a lil bonus of Sauron's Theme at the end on the upper A2 line. A creepy a cappella arrangement just in time for spoopy season!

The two themes here are, completely by coincidence, the first and last musical themes I heard from the show: Sauron's theme a couple months before the premiere when they released two teaser tracks (Sauron and Galadriel), and then Where the Shadows Lie in its full vocal version at the end of episode 8. It's kind of difficult to say whether these two are my *favourites*, since honestly I love the whole soundtrack overall. But Where the Shadows lie was definitely the vocal piece best suited to my voice in the recording environment I wanted to use, and Sauron's Theme worked out to weave into the arrangement at the end. And uhhhhh I've kind of been wading through a lot of Mordor stuff lately so these seemed like the obvious choices.

Most of the audio tracks you hear were sung in the echoey concrete stairwell at work. All of that reverb is 100% natural, picked up on the original recording, and is completely unaltered. The only editing I did to any of the tracks was trimming to line up the timing and some volume adjustments. So we have a lot of background atmospheric noise and a few random weird sounds. It was also done just on my phone's voice recorder app, so the quality is a little iffy, but honestly I really like the effect overall.

I need to make a Halloween themed Adventure Time OC/WHATEVER THING I COME UP WITH like... RIGHT NOW!

My main idea is something related to a spoopy Halloween train. Like... the people in the Land of Ooo probably still have urban legends and folklores, right? Legend about spoopy train.
