It’s spooky month, so thought it was appropriate to draw these kickass kids 😌 It’s their month too!

A bit of bittersweet in the bake

Soul has been badgered into continuing the family legacy and starting a bakery of his own. When he finds a place to open up shop it becomes clear why the building closed down in the first place: it is hella haunted. It’s just spooky happenings at first but soon he swears he starts to see them!

With Maka critiquing everything he does, Crona worrying over everything from their corner, and Blackstar just happy to have an extra ear to talk off, Soul’s got his hands full. He admits the company is nice at first, but these ghosts carry more than is clear at first glance. Life (and death) just got a whole lot messier.

This is my first time doing a reverb! Was definitely a bit of a weird new experience, but I took the chance to make this self-indulgent little au.

It was really fun to talk over and flesh out!!

As of last year, I’ve decided to watch Soul Eater every September and October, for spooky season, and it is super cool!! I love the artstyle and overall aesthetic of the series, and the spooky theme is so cool! I also LOVE the character designs, and I really liked Crona’s which is why I drew them. The series is the embodiment of creepy is cool trope and also crazy is awesome, both which I absolutely LOVE! 💖

While drawing this, I was also watching the anime, and Crona’s backstory, and Maka trying to befriend them made me cry a little!

It's the last sunday of july sooooo I've got one more Werewolf!Soul snippet to share with you all today 🐺 thanks @mellancholy-morose for tagging me, as always 🥰

At least this time, they'd made it to a bed.  A real, proper bed, in a room with four walls and a roof overhead and a functioning door. Privacy, security, comfort. A very needy Maka, flush with a post-battle adrenaline crash and brand-new wounds leaking fresh blood; minor scratches though they are, he's acutely aware of each one–of the scent of her blood and the way it pulls at his nostrils, the way it calls to his more basic instincts. Of the exact number of cuts and their placement, on her arms and her torso and her thighs. He can't just sit here and let her bleed. The very thought makes him restless, stirs a panicky feeling deep inside his chest, a feeling pervasive enough to pull him from the bed, untangle himself from twisted sheets and clinging fingers. From bare legs and toned muscular arms and flesh so succulent his teeth ache with need, with hunger.

Less than 100 days till Halloween🎃🌙 (although in my heart its spooky season all year, heheh)

MAKA RECOMMENDS: The Substance (2024)

If you're into psychological horror and body horror, this is the film for you. Demi Moore plays a distressed Hollywood actress whose star is falling; she'll keep her rank by any means necessary.

GOOSE RECOMMENDS: Alien (1979)

This ever-iconic film has influenced the sci-fi scene globally since it came out. The crew of the Nostromo must work together to survive when something dangerous and strange makes it onto the ship.

"Oh no." Maka pulled back as the double grinned. It raised two pointed nails toward it's own eyes, the movements sharp an uncanny. "We need to get out of range now." "Get out now!" Blinding white pain flashed behind her eyes as she ran. Relying on Soul to guide her, she got out to the main square. Light danced across the ground at her feet. She looked up, just as a bird with a mirror for a face shed its feathers into another version of herself. This time a little hazy on the details, like a blurry photograph. The magical tether wasn't as strong, so when Maka rolled to create distance, it stumbled over itself. Each time it saw her, it tried again to capture her image.

Picked a spooky snip for Halloween :3 Finally settled on a title for this fic that I like. I'll see how much of the initial draft I can get done whille MSMW is updating. idk if this will be ready to go up by then. I have an outline, buuuuut Black Star doesn't like to cooperate.

Thoughts on Crona in the anime vs the manga?

OH MAN i can have an excuse to ramble and yap about Crona 

For starters manga Crona is sad and just depressing especially how the story ended, being trapped on the moon with the embodiment of fear itself and then ending with a boob joke was definitely a choice.

Besides that, the manga holds a different purpose for Crona cuz the manga values more horror and darker elements. And the manga paneling and art are so good, the horror and distortion with the character design of Crona are so cool.

As for the anime has become known for its quirky, Halloween vibes mostly kooky and spooky (exception with the Kinshen). Its overall a happier ending Crona gets to learn to be a better person and face their fear of being a coward and betraying Maka and their new friends

Meanwhile, the manga provides an alternate perspective of Crona's ordeal. Much of the abuse is plainer to see therefore it's more vivid and uncomfortable. But in the end with all the abuse they endured during their lifetime, there is no point, they are never able to become a better person or face their fear of betraying everyone because Crona just locks themselves to the moon (practically dead)

I know this is a trope of bad characters making the ultimate sacrifice of killing themself as a character redemption  but that shit never works at all, idk why it happens in media (I'm looking at you shadow Weaver in shera)

That said again I don't hate manga Crona i just think the author has a missed opportunity. In a perfect world I would love to see the combination of anime and manga versions. If anything I would love a scene of Crona mirroring Nimona's breaking point: 

Teen suicide especially in queer community is a touchy topic which im not smart enough to explain but Nimona and Crona are like two sides of the same coin. Other just have more respect and love for the characters and the other wants to make a boob joke. Because of this anime just ages better compared to the manga, the hopeful message, and Crona's recovery having ups and downs make it better. (also Maka and Crona killing Medusa together is PEAK, fuck your abuser)

He followed close behind, haunting her like her shadow once more, and after a ways she slowed her pace to all but force him to walk beside her. It was less creepy that way.

Living up to the spooky reputation, spying the white ghost sitting just behind her gave Maka a start.

ok so he is on the Autism Spectrum, this is just my own personal headcanon as someone who is Autistic themselves, but ive recently been rewatching Soul Eater because of spooky season, and a lot of his behavior really reads as him being Autistic coded to me

once he became the new grim reaper after Lord Deaths well death, he made sure that lessons were put in place on symmetry so everyone in the school could "be perfecyly symmetrical" as he would put it

the first time he used Soul as his weapon, he almost had a panic attack due to not being used to having an unsymmetrical weapon for the first time.. it took a few hours for Soul to calm him down and he needed to get the others involved

every sunday he has Liz, Patty, Maka, Black Star and Tsubaki come over to his place for dinner and a game night.

every year on the anniversary of defeating the Kishin, he holds a ceremony to honor those who died fighting against Asura, and to honor those who continue to fight against the evils of the world that were spread by the Kishin

once he took over as the near Grim Reaper, he knew there were a lot of kids who were witches who were more then likely just trying to survive the way Angela. the child witch Black Star and Tsubaki tried to fight was, so he spent years working on a good relationship with the witches and even set up a special division in the academy to work on relations with them and help the younger ones master their powers

baking is how he relieves stress, he can bake just about anything, from creme brule, to cookies, cakes and brownies.
