Name: Sea Ants
Debut: SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Krabby Patty
Operation Krabby Patty is an old PC game that I had when I was little, and even back then, the whole thing felt so very Off. I didn't yet have any concept of official and unofficial products, but this game FELT unofficial, with its low-quality cel-shading, reuse of lines from episodes out of context, the iconic wrong Mr. Krabs voice... and these! Sea Ants! What the hell are Sea Ants!
Well, it's quite straightforward, really. They wanted to use ants in Plankton's scheme. There are no ants in the ocean (that are supposed to be there, at least). And thus, Sea Ants. "But sea ants aren't a thing" they are NOW, buster!
Tumblr media
They look Enough like ants, I guess. The color, the antennae, and the synchronized marching is enough to make them clearly ants, but they're Weird ants! They don't really look like SpongeBob characters, and I don't know what kind of characters they DO look like. If they weren't marching in lines, they would be very easy to mistake for aliens, with their tall heads! I guess their bodies are shaped to evoke a thorax and abdomen, but it looks more like they're packing ample posterior.
Tumblr media
The Sea Ants mostly just act as a group, going where Plankton tells them to and doing what he says, but there are three individuals we get to meet! Vinnie, Paulie, and Rocco, the Italian-American Sea Ants. They don't do much, but they wear fedoras and it's funny that they exist.
Perhaps to you reading this, Sea Ants just seem like any other one-off SpongeBob species. It may not even seem out of the ordinary to make up a species for a video game, since even the more popular games had loads of unique enemies! But there's just something about Sea Ants to me. Depending on which route you choose, they're one of the first things you see in the entire game. To me, they are this game's identity. Maybe the vibes aren't off after all! Maybe I wasn't meant to interpret this as a SpongeBob game. Maybe the tone is just right for a Sea Ants game!
And maybe, just maybe... one of the newer, younger SpongeBob crew members will sneak a Sea Ant cameo into the actual series. They did it for Prawn from Battle for Bikini Bottom, maybe we could see Sea Ant in an episode for a few seconds! If any of the crew are reading this... *flutters eyelashes*

OK, REAL TALK FOR A MOMENT. YOU KNOW WHAT GIVES ME NOSTALGIA, SEROTONIN, AND DOPAMINE LIKE NOTHING ELSE?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE FREAKIN SPONGEBOB PC GAMES.
I've only played Employee of the Month when I was 7-12 on my family's old desktop and I LOVED IT. I still have the game, but my laptop doesn't have a CD port AND newer versions of pcs aren't compatible with old games like this (F*** planned obsolescence) Modern Spongebob has tried to make more 3D content, but neither Sponge on the Run nor Kamp Koral compare to the genius behind these games.
Starting off with the OG, Operation Krabby Patty: Truth be told, I don't know much about it. According to the reference EotM made, this was the first game. I'm not that impressed by the actual gameplay since it's mostly a series of mini-games rather than a point-and-click adventure like the rest of them. But what I really liked were the cutscenes because of how creative and funny they were. Some of the jokes in here are funnier than entire episodes of modern Spongebob. The 3D animation in these cutscenes also wasn't so detailed that it came off as super unnerving. It actually looked like Spongebob but with more depth. And the best part of this was that the rest of the games would go on to use it's KILLER SOUNDTRACK. Seriously, I could vibe to the nostalgia of this music for hours.
Employee of the Month is the only game I actually played and it was awesome. The plot took you everywhere, you got to see all the different parts of Bikini Bottom including those you've never seen in the show, and it was overall an amazing adventure. You went from Downtown Bikini Bottom to Rock Bottom to Conch Street and Jellyfish fields to some kind of Beverley Hills spinoff near the Kelp Forest. And it would get crazy. Spongebob met with a Merlin wizard cameo named Marlin (a fish like a swordfish) who controlled the weather. He met an anchovy with 4,132 twin brothers that basically trolled him the entire adventure. He met a hippie who gave him glasses that sent him into Squidward's dream and turned him into the shape of squidward. YOU CAN'T GET THIS ANYWHERE ELSE. And the gameplay itself rocked. I loved going on these little missions to collect miscellaneous objects from different sources and interactions with various characters to move the adventure along. One thing I would do would be to point and click on every possible thing on the screen because there were so many details that Spongebob would comment on (Something these point-n-clicks have in common). And there would also be a bunch of easter eggs like these video tapes showing the animating process. It was AMAZING.
I haven't actually played Movie or Light, Camera, Pants, but from the walkthroughs I've seen, they're both at least as awesome as EotM.
Movie felt like someone put you into the events of the Spongebob Movie while also giving you behind the scenes looks at parts of the story that haven't been shown in the theaters. Arguably, I'm actually more inclined to watch the walkthrough again than the actual movie because it has way more content. You could play as Mindy sneaking out of the castle to help Spongebob and Patrick, Spongebob went into a cave and saw his entire future life play for him, Spongebob had to infiltrate the headquarters of invertebrate terrorists to settle a dispute between them and the local chiropractor, THERE WAS A MYSTERY IN A HOTEL WHILE THEY WERE DOWN THE TRENCH THAT THEY JUST BRUSHED OVER WHILE THEY WERE SINGING "Now that we're men"! YOU CANNOT TELL ME HE DIDN'T EARN THAT MANAGER POSITION AFTER ALL THAT! And the parts of the movie that was on screen was followed to a tee! It followed the dialogue exactly, MOST ADAPTATIONS DON'T BOTHER TO PULL THIS OFF, BUT THIS PC GAME DID.
And finally, Lights Camera Pants. This one was incredible and could have it's own movie because of how good it was. Spongebob is trying to get as many people and props together to upgrade the new Mermaidman and Barnacleboy movie. Not everyone is like me to try to look at all of the content in these games, but this one made it an INTEGRAL PART to try to talk to as many of the characters as possible because literally every NPC had a part to play in this movie. And that didn't stop the plot from going nuts because he went ALL OVER THE PLACE IN BOTH SPACE AND TIME. YES, TIME. THERE WAS TIME TRAVEL INVOLVED AND YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHO HE MET. (Hint: It's from my favorite Spongebob episode of all time. It was a pre-movie special starring a certain trio. Sorry, if you still can't get it, you have to see it yourself because I'm not spoiling :P)
Bro, these games were the peak of the franchise and I will die on this hill. Some of the video games probably deserve their own post, but this will always have a place in my heart and childhood as peak Spongebob...

Haven't updated y'all since before the pandemic. I haven't gotten ANY other replies from Puffs Tissues since the pandemic happened like right after I emailed them so rip.
BUT THE PLOT THICKENS.
I got to looking up this game demo again, and accidentally found out that Jolly Rancher had their OWN Nickelodeon game demos.
This one includes Spongebob: Operation Krabby Patty and Employee of the Month. It also have Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius and Jimmy Neutron vs Jimmy Negatron (Just like Puffs Tissues did.)
From what I could see this probably came out the same time as the Puffs, but no one in my family ever bought Jolly Ranchers so this was a SHOCK when I saw this on Archive.org and I have no personal experience with this.
Now I have MORE questions:
Are there any other game demos that Nickelodeon released?
Why did Nick collaborate with Jolly Ranchers?
What did the packaging look like for this?
How long did this collaboration last?
Did either of these promotions help boost sales of the full games?
This is giving me WAY more questions that I cannot answer because I only find the archive link when I Google "Jolly Rancher Nickelodeon Game Demo/Sampler" (And probably this Tumblr post after I post it.)
If anything I could try emailing THQ to see if they have any information, but that could be a dead end as well.
Does anyone remember these Jolly Rancher game Demos? I'd like to hear if anyone has any experience with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Does anyone remember the pc game demos of Spongebob Sqaurepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom, Fairly Odd Parents: Breakin Da Rules, & Jimmy Neutron vs. Jimmy Negatron. The disc came packaged in Puffs Tissue Boxes! (These photos aren’t mine I found them on google.) That’s probably why I remember this so well, my great aunt would buy Puffs Tissues. In turn, she’d give me the discs since I owned a computer. My friend uploaded a Let’s Play of him playing Jimmy Neutron vs Jimmy Negatron and I instantly remembered playing the demo of it. It took me many google searches to find out what SpongeBob game was on it as well as what the 3rd game was.
Before I found these photos I actually thought I made the whole thing up. Lol. Like I dove into the depths of google hell just to find this. I’m more concerned with the fact that there is nothing on the internet about these gems. (Besides people trying to sell em, downloads, or the occasional Let’s Play of one of the demos.) Like what was the promotion? Why don’t the official wiki’s for these games say they were a package deal of demos? Why was Puffs selling these with their tissues?
I used to have so many of these demos, but they got lost over the years. I wouldn’t even know where to look if I wanted to find them again. I remember playing it at my dad’s apartment when I was a kid as well as when I was at my mom’s house on an old computer. I think I had the full game of Jimmy Neutron vs Jimmy Negatron at one point. I actually don’t remember. I remember playing as Negatron at one point and I don’t think you could in the demo. Idk. One of these days I’ll look into it.

However, Operation Krabby Patty was the first SpongeBob PC game. Technically, this is not true because Legend of the Lost Spatula was the first SpongeBob game to be released, and in Europe, SuperSponge also came out before-hand.If the player clicks on the Operation Krabby Patty poster inside WSEA TV, SpongeBob breaks the fourth wall by saying, "Ooo! Operation Krabby Patty! That was my very first game. The outfit that Patrick wears throughout most of the game, (a green baseball cap, a lavender shirt, a camera, and his usual green swim trunks with purple flowers), was first seen on him at the beginning of " Neptune's Spatula.".The game was nominated for an "Adventure Game of the Year" award of 2003, but ultimately lost to Uplink: Hacker Elite.SpongeBob SquarePants Employee of the Month - Longplay Trivia The ending shows them all leaving Neptune's Paradise, except Patrick, who is still in the bumper boats. SpongeBob and Patrick are overjoyed, and several characters that they met throughout the game jump out yelling "Surprise!". He says it is "SpringBoob SquirePin's" party, but Sandy corrects him. In the ending sequence, SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy get to Neptune's Paradise, but an employee tells them that the park is closed to make way for a private party, upsetting SpongeBob and Patrick and causing them to cry (although Patrick was only wailing and banging his arms and legs on the floor as if he was having a tantrum). But the real question is: "where will SpongeBob find a jacket?" The goal is to get the oxygen tanks filled at a place called Oxygen Springs so that SpongeBob and Patrick can get to Neptune's Paradise. The oxygen fuel tank in Sandy's rocket runs out of oxygen (thanks to Patrick stepping on the gas pump) and they get stuck in Bottoms Up. Conch Street ( SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick's houses). They get left behind and have to find a new way to get to Neptune's Paradise.

They get out of Rock Bottom, but SpongeBob and Patrick do some annoying things on the bus, so the bus driver tricks them and says that the bus ran out of gas. The bus driver refuses to drive out of Rock Bottom until the storm passes, so the goal is to figure out why the weather is stormy and to try and fix it. SpongeBob and Patrick get on the bus but suddenly, the weather gets really bad, so they get lost and end up stuck in Rock Bottom (again).

Krabs decides to name him the "Employee of the Year." He then receives a mysterious mail package containing two free tickets to " Neptune's Pacific Paradise," and later gives them to SpongeBob for winning the "Employee of the Year" award, with SpongeBob saying they must've cost a fortune however, they were free. SpongeBob wins the "Employee of the Month" award once again, so Mr.

I haven't played Operation Krabby Patty, though from what I can tell it's mostly a point and click game. I can definitely tell you Battle for Bikini Bottom is a great video game.
It oozes with charm and I felt like I was not only playing a SpongeBob SquarePants game, but one done by fans of the show.
It's a "go from location to location and collect shiny things" platformer, in a similar vein to Banjo and Kazooie or Super Mario 64.
Spongebob's gameplay centers mostly around platforming, using various bubble themed attacks to solve puzzles and beat enemies. Patrick focuses mostly on strength to move around heavy things and is the slowest character to play as. Sandy focuses on versatility, swinging on Texas themed points, using a rope to get around most places.
The story feels like it's straight out of the show. The humor is classic SpongeBob, with many memorable lines and funny moments. If only Clancy Brown voiced Mr. Krabs.
The soundtrack is remarkable and it amazes me how a SpongeBob game manages to set the mood and create some real worthwhile pieces.
The point is, the game is great and embodies what a licensed game should be. I would definitely suggest getting the remake.
reblog if ur beyond hyped for Battle For Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated so i know who my soulmates are

Aw, Tartar Sauce! Is the Krusty Krab Restaurant Trademark A CopyBob DittoPants?
With some cases, you just shake your head.  In this case, a restaurant purveyor thought it would be okay to open a restaurant by the name of the “Krusty Krab.”  For those of you who have no reason to have been watching cartoons for the past 20 years, this is the name of the restaurant in which SpongeBob SquarePants works, flipping crabby patties as a fry cook.  SpongeBob Squarepants is a Nickelodeon cartoon character who has been very popular with young children (and certain college students).  Again, for those of you who do not know what I am talking about, click here to listen to the show’s catchy opening song.
In Viacom International Inc. v. IJR Capital Investments, LLC, Judge Gary Miller (S.D. Tex) granted summary judgment to Viacom (the owner of Nickelodeon) for state trademark infringement over IJR’s intended use of the name KRUSTY KRAB for its restaurant.  On its state trademark infringement claim, there were a few factors working against Viacom:  it had not registered KRUSTY KRAB as a trademark, and it does not use the name in an actual restaurant.  Nevertheless, the Court found that Viacom had a valid trademark in KRUSTY KRAB by virtue of acquiring secondary meaning.  While the Court found secondary meaning, it did not define the class of goods over which KRUSTY CRAB established such secondary meaning.
Turning to likelihood of confusion, the Court found compelling evidence of likelihood of confusion between the fictional KRUSTY KRAB and IJR’s KRUSTY KRAB.  The Court found significant overlap between the two entities in target geographic areas and customer base.  The Court also accepted a survey that concluded that 30% of typical restaurant patron respondents exercising ordinary caution identify Viacom as the entity that would have operated, approved or sponsored a restaurant bearing that name.  The Court also noted that IJR likely knew of the SpongeBob SquarePants connection and looked to capitalize on that association, which also weighed in Viacom’s favor.
The Court denied Viacom summary judgment on its federal and state dilution claims because they were not ripe (IJR had not yet used the mark in commerce). The Court also denied summary judgment on Viacom’s other Lanham Act claims, including unfair competition, because they were not briefed.  On these issues, the Court displayed its knowledge of popular culture, noting that SpongeBob would likely respond, “Aw, tartar sauce!” to the denial.
The next time someone thinks about crossing SpongeBob SquarePants, we caution them with this little ditty.  Go ahead and sing along.
Who works somewhere KRUSTY way under the sea?
SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS
Unregistered, fictional and so KRABBY!
