Sometimes I go back through Storytime 2 and it's really just not as good as I remember. Especially the beginning parts when close to a dozen people were working on things.
And yet, together, we made a storyline where Elliot from Open Season (see featured image) goes directly to hell. Satan drags him to hell and he dies and stays in hell.
Perhaps, this is peak
until next cycle,

What's up with everyone assuming Jaune's gonna be all "Friendzoned again, bloop blep bleep?"  I mean, the episode made it plainly clear he doesn't know how, in his words, 'to girls'. I feel like if he was gonna turn out to be a jerk about it, he woulda interrupted Weiss an Neptune. But he didn't. He accepted what happened and left. This is character development, guys. Just chill and wait.

Truly my hatred for Julia is somewhat unfounded because, she didn't initially go to the Graveyard as planned to save Spike from dying and to protect him from Vicious. Though she still ultimately robbed him from the only life he knew (life in the syndicate) and her love, and that's why he developed the fatalist mentality and was so reckless with his life throughout the series, as if he were living a dream. It was also just painful to watch how much he still loved her from his reactions whenever her name was even mentioned (See Jupiter Jazz part 1 & 2)
I guess it also just bugs me that she never once tried to reach him or be with him until her life was put in danger when Vicious sent out the order to kill everyone previously involved with the syndicate after his coup.. she only ran back into his arms when her life was in danger, after leaving Spike with litterally nothing all those years back.
She then promises she'll be with him forever AND MOMENTS LATER SHE DIES RIGHT IN HIS ARMS AND TELLS HIM "IT WAS ALL A DREAM"
She ultimately didn't trust that Spike could protect them both. took the easy path out and ran away. Then, when she was in danger again the second time, in a more perilous situation, she comes running  back to him only to break Spikes heart completely. so yeah i still dislike her.

Just Luffys reaction to Aces death was so........ I don't even have words to explain what that did to me while watching the show
My reaction was to cry tbh (i made sure to link the video  in my post so everyone else could go through it again too), Just because it's so uncharacteristic and rare in anime (more so shonen manga) for a character to go through that type of extreme mental anguish that would lead to a breakdown.
its the one of the few times i've teared up watching anime. I also cried again when he woke up from his coma on the island when Jimbei told him he Ace was really dead after he refused to believe it. You could see all the ambition leave his body, while he called himself weak and blamed himself and his lack of strength for his brother's death. I cried again after when they showed Luffy, Ace and Sabo's backtories as children and you got to truly understand how their bond as brothers formed despite them not being blood related.

I think for a lot of One Piece fans, Ace's death hit extremely hard because we discover that this great charismatic, loyal, brave, caring and tragically stubborn character we were initially introduced to, who was also extremely dear to our loveable protagonist Luffy, was actually this emotionally complex and flawed human being.
"Was it good that i was a born?" "Gramps... Do I...Deserve to Live"  Those things were heartbreaking to hear, especially coming from a child but they were quotes that represented only a small portion of the inner turmoil Ace had to deal with his entire life, being villified and scorned because he was the child of an infamous criminal. Ace repeated both things that as a toddler up until the day that he died, i think for  a lot of fans, myself included, could personally relate to him consistently questioning his self-worth.
As arguably one of the strongest characters in the show, he lived his entire life trying to validate his presence in the world and second-guessing his self worth, despite his late adoptive father, more than 1000 friends and acquaintances and Luffy putting their lives on the line to try and rescue him. Sadly he only realized how truly loved he was on his deathbed
Another reason why his death was emotionally devastating is because for 2 years, people reading the manga had to watch Luffy,  put himself through hell trying to save his older brother, Luffy, already grieving over his separation from his crew decided to leave them in attempt to break into the worlds most secure prison to save his brother from his imminent execution at the hands of the marines. He nearly died, in the process,  shortening years of his life to recover only to barely miss his brother and was then forced to go to the marine stronghold Marineford where they were to execute his brother. Having to navigate his way through the war and  fight with some of the strongest characters in the show, he miraculously ends up rescuing Ace, only to have him die in his arms a  moments later.
Typically in a shonen manga, when a protagonists loved ones are hurt or killed, they usually proceed by getting some silly power boost out of nowhere and proceed to beat the living shit out of the antagonist/villain who did so. but in Luffy's case, he had a complete mental breakdown that was extremely difficult to read or watch
One Piece is a great manga, silly and humourous at times but emotionally devastating when it wants to be. With a fantastic storyline and compelling characters.
