Welcome to my 2024 all year SPN event!!

🍀 Ok, but why? I want to be more here lol and I reached a milestone, and i didn't realize it, and I'm pretty sure I won't reach another one until the end of this year. Also, I have noticed how we all love prompts because it gives you ideas when you're out of them, or just because they are fun when you're bored or to have something to look forward to or they can challenge you sometimes. Also, I want this to be something that can connect us somehow. Anyway, so this is that.

🍀 How does it work? Well, each month, I'll make a post with a theme and some ideas for you to follow or for things you can work on during that month. It should work for art, writing, amvs, poetry, gifs, edits, or web weavings. I don't know what else could be done, but all of that. The idea is for each month to be different, but we'll see.

🍀 When? Every first. (January as an exception because of reasons). And you will have the whole month to do whatever with it. There is no special day to post.

🍀 Rules? The usual. We don't do incest or any weird shit here. Minors dni if you make it 🔞. Can't believe it needs to be said, but no AI. Tag people, I encourage you to tag some of your favorite blogs in whatever you do. Most love to be tagged in stuff. Have fun!

wait, you hadn't seen spn when you posted the good omens wip? the language with the angels is so similar and everything?

Nope. Pratchett fan of many years, completely new to Supernatural these past three months (with the exception of Cas' love confession, cuz I think everyone on the internet who didn't know to duck and cover in advance got sp*ilered for it that night in 2020.) Something of a lifelong thing for fictional angels, though.

I went with a quasi-Judeo-Christian-theological, liturgical, and poetic vocabulary for the Heaven and Hell/angel and demon stuff. More straight-up/slightly unintentionally ironic for Aziraphale, who wants to take it all at face value (even when he can't); more filtered through the questions of Milton's Paradise Lost, and more despairing and hurting, for fallen angel Crowley.

Muriel's dialogue has a touch of the innocence and wonder of catechism - a discovery, a flowering that opens up to them through the spoken and written word. They question without hidden motive.

Metatron's got a smidge of the manipulative certainty of commercially-driven televangelism: clinical, cynical, tailored for maximum impact on his target audience (Aziraphale). A performance.

I'd guess the Supernatural writers did much the same, cherrypicking for whichever aspect bolstered their storyline or character at the time! Throw a rock at the English language and you'll hit a Judeo-Christian concept somewhere, somehow. "Grace", "vessel", "the Michael Sword" and so on - that stuff paints a lyrical picture that "essence", "body", and "archangel's avatar" couldn't, because it pulls hard on sources rooted so deep in English prose and poetry that we infer deeper meanings without, necessarily, ever giving them a moment's thought before. I'd guess that Good Omens itself influenced Supernatural, too?

A lot of scriptural and liturgical vocabularly and cadence is hardwired into the lyrical use of the English language via influential sources like the King James Bible and the Book of Common Prayer.

"I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition," tells us a boatload about Castiel's mindset before he even reveals to Dean that he's "an angel of the Lord". Then he's taken aback when Dean doesn't believe him - challenges him and keeps on pushing back; Cas expects this shit to be hardwired into Dean's brain and for Dean to respond accordingly by bending at the knees. Shock and awe using language.

They spend most of season 4 in that state of disconnect, barely communicating even when they both try, because Dean's just not doing "because it's God's will/because I say so", not for anyone or anything; he won't respond to that portentous vocabulary and Cas struggles to adapt to that (not least because he gets brutally punished when he tries).

Put 'em away Cas.

1. Describe your journey this year in three words

Bounty. Fallow. Renual.

8. Most challenging character to write or draw

Hm....none of her parts have actually come out yet but since I started it this year: I've found it very hard to write Ava for By Any Other Name. I have her broad Want down but I'm still figuring out her Need and that's where I'd get her opinions on the things going on scene-by-scene. There's not a great deal of spn scholarship (by which I mean, tumblr posts) on her out there as there is for other characters like Meg, Jo, Daphne Allen, and she has such little screentime it's not so easy to pin her down...

9. A work from another creator you keep coming back to

Frustration by bitterred. A true gift to the sapphicnatural community!!!! Literally pass the dagonkelly!!!!!!!

14. Something new you tried this year

For my Masters in Publishing (!!) I did a LOT of design work for my final project throuh InDesign. I thought I would be completely awful at "computery stuff" by learning this program I'd never even heard of before BUT I picked it up really fast and I was often being asked to explain to other students how to do certain tasks, I taught myself through extra research how to do some fancy stuff. I created some really cool page spreads of marked-up poetry, here's my example from the introduction to show readers how this works:

15. An area of your art you feel you improved upon

Lighting! I started getting this guy on my youtube shorts and after watching a LOT of his lighting fixes videos I am much more confident making the shadowed parts truely dark and thus giving my art more defined shapes.

SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SO NICE TO ME!!!! AND I AM AWFUL WITH NAMES SO I DON'T REMEMBER! SPECIFIC BLOGS! SHAMEFUL! But there are several people who like and reblog my stuff without comment or with just their tagging system and it makes me so happy when I see a wall of their silent interactions :')

Some more PTX fanart.

I have a degree in fine art, but I don't make art for a living, and at some point, I just sort of stopped doing it at all - for years! About two years ago, I challenged myself to make art, or write poetry, (or both), every day, even if just for a few minutes, and it's been so energizing!

I feel like the artists I admire give us so much of their creative energy through their gifts, and fanart and some of my poetry is my way to sort of express that energy back. Also, it's a low pressure way to try out new techniques.

I have been a fan of Lord of the Rings since 1972, Supernatural since 2011, and Pentatonix also since 2011. I found various ways to be active in LotR and SPN fandoms, but I didn't actively participate in the PTX fandom. The art their music and kindness inspires has given me reason to join in, and I am so very grateful to the other fans for welcoming me and my work so warmly.

All my art is available for personal use (meaning not profiting from it or claiming credit for it). My signature is enough credit for me, and anyone can download my fanart on DeviantArt. I also have a RedBubble store that was requested and it blows my mind every time I get a notification that someone bought my art on a product - I mean - that is so cool and humbling!

Summary: The reader has always struggled with depression, but one day it gets too overwhelming. Dean doesn’t notice anything’s wrong until it’s too late.

A/N: First thing’s first - this is a poem, everyone. And as far as my poems go, it can be understood differently by different people and it is intended to be this way. I don’t use any character names or specific places or graphic descriptions of anything. The warnings are simply there to (surprise, surprise) warn you that it could be understood in a way I originally had in mind when writing this.

🐚 Fav 5 Cockles Moments of 2021 🐚

I thought it would be fun if we all collected our top 5 cockles moments of the year. It's so difficult to choose! There has been a surprising amount considering spn has been over for a while and cons only started up again in the end of the year.

This list is purely subjective and in chronological order. :D Here goes!

Mish.Dee.

Just a couple of pixels, but so heartfelt. ❤️ By lumping them together with the endearing short forms of their names, it's clear in which category they both reside. :D

Blankygate

All hell broke loose when Misha sent a picture of himself looking sad in "Jensen's guest bedroom", prompting cockles fandom to release the info that they had been living together from at least 2017.

Babe

In the summer the gish zoom was all sorts of chaos when Jensen got the times wrong and was there for the opening ceremony instead of a later panel. Cuteness ensued and then Jensen signed off calling Misha "babe". Oop! Berto's reaction is the real gem here.

Angel Plushie

All of DenCon 2021 was amazing with them crashing each others' panels, disappearing off stage together and just grinning at each other with faces lit up like christmas trees! Angel plushie gets a honourable mention however, because they both just volunteered detailed information on how they were hugging the previous night (thanks), plus the tooth-rottingly sweet term of endearment "angel plushie". ❤️

I live it.

Jensen being more open with destiel has been one of my fav things of 2021. :D But this was especially great because when thumbing through a Destiel art book (his choice) and being asked whether he wanted prints as he stopped on a Destiel kiss drawing, he said "Why? I live it." Excellent. 🤝

I mean the year isn't over yet, so I'm prepared to have this whole list overthrown. This is a challenge, cockles! 😂

SPN POETRY MONTH

Hello !! So we (@purgatorybfs @queerstudiesnatural and @faithdeans) thought that April being poetry month was the perfect opportunity to boost this little spn poetry renaissance that’s been happening, and to motivate you guys to write more and more and more because we are greedy and we love reading the incredible writing in this fandom <3

We came up with a prompt for each day BUT of course you can only do the ones that inspire you.

You are free to follow these prompts as closely or loosely as you want, and to mix and match them if you like. Our goal is just to encourage poetic writing <3

The only rules are the following:

Explicit content is okay as long as it is appropriately tagged

No sexual content between characters who are blood related

No sexual content involving children

While we understand all views on Jack's character, we ask you not to post sexual content involving him as part of this event, as some of our mods are uncomfortable with it and would prefer not to read about it.
