Dean surviving the dumb fight with the vampires in the barn after Cas suddenly flew in and healed him before it was too late. But Dean is totally unaware that Cas actually time travelled to save him and he should really still be dead.
Cas was given archangel levels of power by Jack after he rescued him from the Empty and then he willingly burned them all up jumping back and changing fate so significantly - by saving Dean.
Now he'll be forever at low angel power again, like being permanently on battery saver mode.
Cas was warned not to, but he took the timeline and tore it into itty bitty pieces because he couldn't let Dean die.
Jack is equally both mad and proud of his dad for saving Dean, even if he kind of messed with the fabric of reality and shredded his own powers so badly.
OG Death is back from his vacation (he didn't die, you can't kill Death) and he threatens Cas that this is The Very Last Time he's letting Dean Winchester escape dying, as a thank you for finally getting rid of Chuck. (He's secretly pleased Dean survived.)
So now Cas is really pushing for Dean to retire from hunting. He's even hanging around the bunker more, eating and drinking and sleeping even though he's still technically an angel, and Dean has no idea why. And Cas would rather go back to the Empty than tell him what he did and what he sacrificed to bring him back.
And that he'd do it all again.

Castiel goes to the empty. He is asleep. Then, Jack wakes everyone up. He is fighting through countless beings in the chaos. Jack isn't there. Death isn't there. The Empty is putting beings to sleep one by one. He's running, but going nowhere. He's pushing to be last to sleep. Then he runs into someone else who is running, who has been following him in his stationary walk.
"Well, Feathers, did you have something to do with this?" Crowley's voice chimes in. He's a shadow of his former self. He looks smaller, weaker, more tired. For familiar faces in a chaotic void, Crowley was one of the top three Cas wanted to avoid.
Cas doesn't answer because he needs to keep moving. He needs to stay awake. He can leave, he can leave, he can leave. Crowley follows him for a week before he's caught in the eternal slumber.
The next familiar face he runs into is Lucifer. He is angry. He is muttering to himself about how it's not fair, he shouldn't have been sent back, something about his father and being better than him. Cas decides not to engage because fighting seems to get everyone tired enough to succumb to the sleep. As more spirits go down, the harder it is to resist. As much as he'd love to put Lucifer down himself, he needs to survive. It's a miracle Lucifer doesn't notice him pass.
Cas is on his own, skirting around sticky souls groaning, trying to stay awake. He feels his mind weaken. How long had it been? No time in the Empty, there's no time in death for angels, not like for humans. He tries to ponder the meaning of humans in heaven reliving memories, and those in the empty sleeping forever.
Sleeping, so sleepy, so tired of running. Isn't he tired? Didn't he give up when he summoned the Empty to the bunker to save Dean? Dean. Dean would want him to keep fighting. Cmon man, I need you to get your feathery ass up and fight! Keep going! Keep going through the thick black ooze that creeps up his many limbs the further he goes.
He kneels. His whole form collapses in the void. Sleep wouldn't be so bad. He'd see Dean, dream of his life with Dean, get so close to touching Dean. One by one, his eyes close. One by one, his tattered wings curl around him like a silk sheet. He's tired of fighting. He can almost hear the Empty grin in satisfaction at his submission.
One more eye open, and he sees Something. There is something in the Empty. The ooze stops spreading around his spirit for just a moment. Then a loud crrrrrrraaack! Vibrates the entire dimension. But it's too late, he's tired, he doesn't want to wake up again and run again. Slowly is final eyelid closes.
Then he sees the last familiar face. Dean is looking up at him. That soul castiel put back together shines in the Empty. He's fighting through, shouting, calling. He's calling for Cas.
Cas doesn't know how Dean recognizes him. Even though his form is a building, he feels Dean's touch. Pulling on him with all of his little might. Snap out of it, Cas, wakeup! We gotta go. Cas must be dreaming but another eye opens to see Dean, a speck of light at his feet, starting to climb. It feels like an ant crawling the length of his body until finally, finally, Dean is on one of his shoulders.
Castiel opens another eye. Dean is brighter than ever. He's crying out for Cas to wakeup. He tugs on anything he can grab. It's real. Dean is there and he's trying to save Cas and what is Dean doing in the Empty why does he risk his life like this. Cas tried to tell him such, but Dean makes it clear he still doesn't speak Angel.
Cas rises from where he fell. He lets Dean guide him. He follows wherever Dean goes. There's a door, no way he could pass through something smaller than Dean, but once a piece of him touches the door-
"Cas? Cas, Cas cmon man. Wake up. Wake up! Please!"
"Dean...?"
Dean smiles, causing the river of tears on his face to curve. There's color in his skin-Cas' dreams were not doing that blush justice. His eyes were so green in that moment it was overwhelming.
That familiar face. That smile. This is the longest Dean has held Cas. Any moment they'd pull away, Cas tries to sit up. Dean must not have expected him to move so quickly because their foreheads push together. Dean laughs.
"I'm sorry," Cas says. Dean doesn't waver in his smiling, teary face. He cups Cas' cheek in his hand.
Dean kisses Cas and it doesn't matter that his face is wet from tears, it doesn't matter that Cas has only kissed a few times, it doesn't matter that Cas starts glowing at the sheer delight of having what he couldn't have before.
All that matters is he's awake.
He gets to see Dean's face.

I would pay an ungodly amount of money for a Supernatural finale where Dean rescues Cas from the Empty and tells him he loves him too, Eileen comes back to be with Sam, and Jack chooses to live with the four of them in the bunker as a happy family.

When Dean finally gets the photo free, his heart stops.
Then it starts pounding.
It’s a man with striking blue eyes, and, of all things, a cowboy hat. But it isn’t either of these facts that make him freeze. He recognizes the man—knows him, but doesn’t. The same way he knows himself. He doesn’t know who the man is, or where, or why he knows him, or why he’s important. But that doesn’t stop the unnamable feeling crawling up his throat, or the thought that floats to the front of his mind—the only thing in the entire world that he’s sure of, other than his own first name.
Well, two things, really. First, that the man’s name is Cas. And second, that whoever he is, whatever it takes, Dean needs to find him.
[on november 20th, 2020, dean winchester dies in his brother’s arms. on november 21st, he wakes up outside a cabin in north cove, washington. read on ao3]

If I could pitch season 16 of Supernatural:
Dean wakes up and it turns out that everything from 15x18 was an Empty Nightmare because he actually grabbed Cas just before he got taken, so got pulled in too.
Sam and Jack have been trying to get them both out for 5 years.
Jack still got the God Powers but he's whimsical with them and retains his personality. He wants to try and preserve human free will. But also helps in small ways where he can. (and still pops into the bunker for a bowl of cereal from time to time)
Sam is the 'new Bobby' in the MOL bunker - sending out hunters and knowing all the lore about all the monsters. (Also he practices witchcraft on the side)
No blurry wife - Sam and Eileen are engaged - and no Dean Jr. But! they are considering having a kid soon. And! They can get married now that Dean and Cas are back!
Dean and Cas heartfelt reunion!!! Clinging hug!!!! Never let me go again!!!! We're not talking about the confession but we both want to!!!!! etc etc
Cas is still an angel and Jack offers to make him an archangel !! Cas feels like he should say yes out of obligation (even if he doesn't want to leave) but Dean actually FINALLY asks him. to stay? (Cas immediately declines Jack's offer)
Dean struggles with the memories of his Empty Nightmare. (It was just SO bad. But also he tries to describe Old Man Sam and his bad hair and that cheers him up.)
The original Death is back because he never really died, he just didn't want to be involved in all the Winchester shenanigans. But he's back now that all the world-ending chaos is over. (Tessa is also back as his second-in-command)
Billie is the new ruler over the Empty, and it's a place of eternal rest now. Very peaceful. Meg is there and she's having a great time relaxing.
Crowley comes back as a human for a second chance. He's still kind of an ass but he's lovable with it.
Lots of reunions and cameos. It's magic you can bring all sorts of characters back to life - a lot of them died unfairly in the first place. Bring them all back!
Dean! and! Cas! Kiss!
I want all the genres of kiss. Confused. Desperate. Relieved. Passionate. Tender.
The season is all very character focused and character driven and ties up any loose ends the show had left.
The drama comes from internal character struggles and with Dean and Cas figuring out where they fit into this 5 years on world now. (The answer is together doing whatever they want to and Dean comes to the realisation he wants to retire, but he struggles with reconciling that he wants to retire and Sam doesn't and they have to go on different paths now).
The series ends with the big Sam/Eileen wedding and it's just a huge party and gathering of all the cameos you can possibly think of. Friends, family, frenemies, some beloved characters who only appeared in one episode... they're all there.
Dean proposes to Cas by taking the loop from Baby's keys out of his pocket and getting down on one knee and using it like a ring stand-in (it's way too big but it's symbolic and cheesy and sweet and it doesn't matter)
Of course he says yes.
The end.

Today I put on my big girl pants and decided to finally start writing my SPN fix-it fic which starts with Cas in the empty. I’ve been day dreaming about this forever now despite never having written a single thing. So screw you executive function and perfectionist tendencies. The first chapter draft title was ‘once we meet again’ and I wasn’t overly fond of it but I decided to not procrastinate over a chapter title and come back to it later.
Anyway as I was nearing the end of the first chapter, a perfectly fitting song came to mind for the overall vibe of the chapter and thus the final (or so I think) title was born. And I am very pleased with myself so I thought I’d share with the group. Plus a sneak peak of the first paragraph if anyone would like to read it and leave me their HONEST thoughts, it would be much appreciated.

Dean being a dad. Cas being a weirdo about affection again. Jack being a genius toddler.
Cas walked down the silent hallways of the bunker. Looking. For what he wasn’t quite sure. But as he found his way to Deans room he heard humming. Soft and gentle, sweet and safe. The door was cracked open, Cas peaked in.
Dean sat on the edge of his bed, Jack in his lap. Jack was cradling his finger which had a Paw Patrol bandaid on it. His faced was wet, the left over remains of tears. Dean was holding Jack in his lap, rocking gently back and forth. The song he was humming was Hey Jude.
Cas remembered Dean mentioning once that Hey Jude was the song Mary would sing to him as a child. As the song neared then end Cas entered the room more, leaning up against the doorway, watching.
Dean finished the song and continued rocking back and forth. “Why’d you stop daddy?” Jack said

Supernatural season 16 episode 1:
We open with Sam in his party city wig, laying in the hospice bed dying, “it’s okay, you can go now.” Dean jr. says.
But somethings not quite right. Then we hear Dean, our Dean, saying “Sam? Come on man… Sammy. Wake up. Please.” His voice is breaking. Sam’s confused. But he moves towards the voice anyway, wherever Dean is, is where he needs to be.
Sam comes to, and we see Dean standing over him, relief flooding his features. “I thought I lost you man.” He pulls him into a hug.
We find out Sam has been out/missing for 2 weeks. (Now I say this because there are two options. 1. It’s a resurgence of Sam’s psychic abilities. Or 2. He got taken by a djinn on a hunt.)
Sam of course clings to Dean because he did lose him. And it’s a whole thing. And it goes from there the story goes different ways depending on if Sam was captured by a djinn or knocked out from the first psychic headache he’s had in roughly fourteen years.

Cas trying to heal Crowley in 12x23: All Along the Watchtower This is whatever the opposite of self indulgent is, really just breaking my own heart with this one.
ID: Digital drawing of Cas and Crowley set at the end of episode 12x23 of Supernatural. The pose is taken from the end of Reservoir Dogs with Crowley sprawled on his back with his head in Cas' lap and Cas curled over him. Crowley's face is lit up in the effect used when a demon dies. Cas has one hand pressed to Crowley's abdomen and one cradling his face. Both hands are lit up with a golden glow to indicate he is using his grace. Both Cas and Crowley are crying. There are two close up images at the bottom showing the details of Crowley and Cas' faces. End ID.

A digital piece from 2021 done for a DCBB season 15 fix it fic. This is Cas pulling Dean’s ass off that damn rebar 🥲🥲🥲🥲 Lots I would change about this now, but I still love the highlight of Cas’ face.
Wish I had more patience for digital works — my setup sucks 😂

Ao3 is down for maintenance. Here, have one of my fics:
Tumblr media
TWs: A hopeful but not happy ending. Canonical MCD. Existentialism. Slight circumstantial homicide.
-------------------------
Jack watched Chuck fade out of view through the back window, breathing in a slow sigh of relief. They succeeded. He was done.
"And we're sure sure that he can't figure out how to get his power back?" Dean confirmed, glancing up in the rear view mirror. "I mean, he was God. He knows literally everything."
"He doesn't anymore." Jack said softly, leaning his head back against the seat. "That much knowledge would kill him, he's human. He can't remember."
"You doing okay back there, kid?"
"Yeah." He replied weakly.
Dean kept his gaze for a moment before he just turned back to driving.
Sam glanced back, doing his best to mask his concern. "You get some rest, Jack. You did good back there."
"Thanks." Jack failed to mutter. Closing his eyes didn't help, but once he had he forgot how to open them. He had existed his whole life… just one moment in one place.
Right now he was everywhere. Like electricity, a thought and he could see it. Anywhere in the world. He checked in on Donna, Eileen, Bobby, Charlie... He peered through the bunker. He looked in the silo. He could do all that from the car speeding down the highway, one single path through the infinite multitudes.
It was an adjustment.
Chuck's memory was fathomless, and it was spreading like wildfire across his brain, unfolding eons in seconds, cataloging an eternity in the void balanced with Amara and Death before he took breath and birthed the warriors of his sister's confinement. Jack saw the moment the horsemen split. He saw the big bang. He saw the creation of angels, crafted from the supernovas of a chaotic forming universe. He watched countless worlds rise from sparks into empires and fade to dust. He found himself catching up to the present. He watched Sam and Dean's life from birth, not sure if the tears were only in his head when he watched a demon slit his wrist over Sam's crib. He watched John Winchester impart his discipline on them. He watched a knife in Sam's back and hellhounds at Dean's ankles. He felt a physical punch to the gut when Castiel laid a hand on Dean's shoulder in hell.
Dean Winchester is saved.
"That was when the connection broke." Jack thought he had said it out loud, but when no one in the car responded he realized he was mistaken. It was too much of an effort to speak up again.
He watched it again, once, twice. It made him feel physically nauseous. All of the unfathomed cosmos were perfectly in tune with Chuck, the small flicker of an angel's doubt was like a lightning bolt. Angels obeyed. That was all they knew how to do. Even when they rebelled it was within the allowable margins of the template. They weren't like his archangels with their own intuitions, angels were merely an extension of him, programmed to a fault.
"He wasn't pulling the strings." Jack tried to assure them, but again he realized he hadn't moved his lips. "Chuck wanted to see the story… he didn't want to write it. Not until the end. That was all you…"
He watched Ruby corrupt Sam in parallel to Dean's corruption of Cas.
Castiel wasn't the first angel to pull away from heaven, but he was the first one to be tainted with the soul of a righteous man rather than the temptations of sin. It was fascinating.
Chuck never knew which path Dean would take, but he knew where every possible path could lead. Not a single prediction saw Dean get into that convent. Castiel had achieved the unachievable. Providence was subverted. A thousand new paths opened up and the cosmic rush was intoxicating.
He almost forgot to reach through and pull Dean out of that church before Lucifer stepped into the world and melted the flesh off his bones. Sam too, why not?
He spent simultaneously millenia and mere hours, riding the high of being confronted with the true unknown. He was disappointed when the puzzle pieces started sliding into place, the picture clearing. New paths were cemented; The story was different now, but he could see it again. The loss was impossible to set aside.
Raphael had smited Cas so thoroughly there wasn't even enough to scrape into the empty. This provided him with a unique opportunity. He could pull him back together. He was careful, taking hundreds of years within frozen time. He had to get it perfect, he could not risk losing the small shard of Dean's soul that severed his bond with fate.
When Cas came back the paths blurred and when it was done these three improbable rebels had averted the certainty of the apocalypse. Once again as the earth sealed over and the dust settled, Chuck had found himself already craving the uncertainty of Castiel. He went to work rebuilding him again.
The dread Chuck felt when Dean took the mark competed with the thrill of seeing where that led, and suddenly he felt connected to Dean in a way he never had any human before. Reconciliation with his sister, a trip through the cosmic potential at the edges of interminable realities, and by his return the story of Earth had been turned on end.
Jack felt the wave of hatred for himself, and he imagined giving a weak smile at the emotional mess he'd have to sort through to reconcile that later. He turned his back, wishing to avoid reliving the pain and turmoil he himself caused from a whole new perspective. Chuck's omniscience seemed to flicker and fade after Sam's soul splintered into his shoulder anyway.
He rushed through to the end, desperate to catch up to the present in the diminishing hope that he'd be able to wrestle these memories under control. Time had been moving so fast at the start of… well, time itself. Now each second was painfully slow, and he aged centuries sorting through Chuck's analysis of every minute. "Sir, this is a radio shed."
Chuck was choking down on the reins, brushing right up against his own applied limits to affect free will before finally tearing everything down in every reality but one... And then he began to deconstruct that.
Jack was distracted by feeling the pull of every soul as they were erased off the planet. An instant for any observer on earth, but one at a time for him.
He almost missed Cas and Dean run out of Death's library.
"When Jack was dying, I made a deal to save him.…"
Jack blinked back tears again, heart racing as he watched the scene continue.
The empty was tearing open. Cas tried to throw Dean to the side, but the hunter grabbed his arm, pulling Cas close and throwing his arms around him.
"Dean, please-" Cas shouted over the sounds of the slithering void reaching towards them. Jack could feel the second hand panic exploding out from both of them.
"I love you, Cas." Dean breathed, directly in Cas' ear. He arched involuntarily as he felt the ink touch his back, but he held on tight. His prayer was clear. You aren't going without me.
Jack felt Chuck himself invade the room, standing in the silence left behind, the violence of moments ago fading into absence, a world once again without Death, a world missing an impossible pair. And a wholly unsatisfying ending.
Jack felt another nauseating twist in his gut when he felt the idea blossom.
He'd just build another.
No.
It was easy, really.
Please no.
The memories continued, pushing through every attempt Jack made to slow them. His hands… the perverse hand of God, sewing together a human body, stuffing it with a hastily crafted approximation of a half finished soul. Cracked drywall smoothed over with reconstructed memories, edited to his liking. The story would be finished. He didn't rip everyone off this earth just to end it there.
Chuck left him on the floor, phone ringing on the ground, and a memory of staying silent while Cas was ripped from existence.
Jack tore his eyes open, gasping for air as he pulled himself out of it. He locked eyes with Dean in the mirror, and felt the shudder down his spine.
It wasn't Dean.
Dean was in the empty.
Dean was gone.
This isn't Dean.
"You sure you're okay?" Not Dean asked over his shoulder, suggesting to Jack his expressions had all been in his head.
"Yeah." He replied softly.
.
He didn't tell them.
The imposter was acting normal, and Sam was none the wiser, and with all of Jack's wisdom he didn't know what to do besides do nothing at all. He said his goodbyes and stepped out of time to think.
"You want to bring them back." Amara's voice wasn't accusing, but it wasn't necessarily approving either. "This is your idea of hands off?"
"I'm doing it."
"Interfering is what got Chuck in trouble in the first place."
"I'm not Chuck." Jack said firmly. "And I'm not leaving them there."
She looked across the bunker at the figure that couldn't see them. "What are you going to do about him?"
Jack closed his eyes. "I don't know."
"You know you won't be able to pull Dean out with that thing here."
"That thing is Dean… sort of."
"And that's the problem." Amara finished. "This isn't like he is from another world, they are both of this world. The soul can't exist in tandem like that. They'll consume each other as they try to merge."
"He doesn't have a soul." Jack said mournfully. "Not really."
"Close enough to cause problems."
"It's not fair anyway." Jack murmured. "To Sam…" Sam hadn't noticed yet, but Jack was counting the days. The new Dean was a bluff, a collection of memories and intent robust enough to ride out the last apocalypse to completion, but it was never meant to navigate the world any further. The seams were coming undone, and soon they would be without subtlety.
"I don't want Sam to know." Jack paused. "He shouldn't have to know how long his brother has been gone, or where."
"You're not going to be able to wait much longer."
"I'll figure it out." And he did.
Five inches.
The slightest adjustment, five inches to the left, letting a vampire and a poorly placed hook do the dirty work for him.
Jack kept his eyes on every corner of earth, heaven, hell, and purgatory to try to hide from tearful goodbyes from a whisper of his father. He blocked out Sam's despairing prayers, begging him to help.
I am helping. I can rescue him now.
He gave the copy one last gift, a glimpse of a false heaven, comfort from a father figure and a vision of his brother's life.
Jack finally used the last spark of an imposter Dean's almost-soul to rip a hole into the nothingness beyond reality. He liked to think that this Dean had been Dean enough that he'd have willingly sacrificed himself for a chance to rescue his family from the Entity.
It was enough to steel himself for the task ahead.
With the presence of God and the audacity of a Winchester, he stepped through, and he wouldn't be leaving without his fathers.
