supernatural does this really fascinating/strange thing where they write a metaphor for something, but then also directly show the something at the same time. so you have john winchester raising his kids to be hunters (metaphor for abusive childhood) but also, aside from that, being flat out abusive. you have sam winchester repeatedly being possessed by things without his consent (metaphor for sexual assault) but also, aside from that, being sexually assaulted. you have dean winchester becoming more and more violent as result of a mark that makes him addicted to something (sort-of a metaphor for alcoholism? they’re clumsy about this one) but also, aside from that, being an alcoholic. it’s such a Choice. i don’t have anything else to say it’s just something i’ve noticed

So on a hunt against a demon Sam is fighting it and all of a sudden the demon presses their hand to his mouth and Sam feels the warm sensation of blood on his lips and he dosent want to he really dosent, dean would be SO disappointed but he’s opening his mouth before he realizes it and then deans there and he ganks the demon but he sees the blood on Sam’s face and he knows he knows he knows

And Sam is shaking when he gets in the impala and dean isn’t saying anything and they get back to the bunker and dean grabs his arm and starts leading him somewhere and Sam is shaking so hard because he can’t do a panic room again he can’t he can’t he can’t

And he’s a broken record telling Dean please no please I can’t I can’t

And deans not saying anything so he must be really mad and Sam thinks he’s gonna puke then-

Then they’re in the infirmary.

Dean guides Sam to a bed and forces him to lie back. Sam thinks he’s gonna strap him down or force a tranquilizer in him but Dean only grabs a pitcher of water and a cup and places it on the small table next to the bed and Sam is SO confused cuz he’s not hurt and he’s pretty sure Dean knows about the blood and-

Why- am I not going to a panic room?

Dean shakes his head and looks away like HE’S the one who should be ashamed or embarrassed.

No I- I shouldn’t have ever done that to you.

He takes a breath,

I um, I read up on substance addictions and realized sticking you in a room to detox was definitely not good and I know demon blood isn’t like alcohol but it sorta is and— I’m just sorry.

Sam’s just stunned because he deserved the panic room he deserved that pain but Dean just places a hand soothingly on Sam’s arm.

The next couple of days Dean stays by his side and brings him water and food that’s light on his stomach and puts a cold cloth on sam’s forehead and he’s feverish and shaking. And it’s nice it’s good and then they live happily ever after thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Look, Sam is not perfect. The guy is flawed. When he thinks he’s right, he’s hard to move. He can be an asshole to the people he cares about most. He’s committed atrocities. That’s what makes him interesting.

If we were talking about Dean or Cas, the same would still be true. That’s what people like about them. But people don’t seem to extend that same grace to Sam :(

When Sam struggles his eyes open, Dean is leaning over him.

“You awake there, Sammy?”

Sharp stabs of pain radiate from the back of Sam’s skull and the light is too bright, everything blurry and out of focus. Then he registers the bite of rope around his wrists where they’re tied to the chair.

“There you are,” Dean says and his smile is all wrong, and that’s when it starts to come back. The red-lit corridors of the bunker, the impact of the hammer against the wall.

“You’re not him,” Sam says, or tries to say, it comes out muddled.

“You’re still on that?” Dean says, and he runs a thumb over Sam’s temple where he can feel half-dried blood pulling at his skin. “I don’t think I hit you that hard.”

“What happened to killing me,” he says to the thing that’s not his brother, not yet, not quite because he didn’t finish the stupid fucking ritual.

“I changed my mind,” Dean says with a shrug. “Shouldn’t have pumped me full of all that human blood, Sammy. Makes things complicated.”

“Really?” Sam says, testing the hold of the ropes. They don’t give an inch and Dean’s smile grows wider.

“Yeah,” he says. “You see, demon me? He’s a straightforward kinda guy. Wants to bash your head in, and sure I would’ve made it slow and personal, given myself time to enjoy the look on your face when big brother did you in, but it wasn’t complicated.” Dean’s hand moves from Sam’s temple to his throat, not choking him just holding it there, almost gentle. “But human me? Now that is complicated.” He clicks his tongue. “The things he wants to do to you.”

im a dean girl 4eva but sam will always be that little bit more relatable to me. that inescapable wrongness (his demon blood) and the addiction to that wrongness in order to feel some control over it is one hell of a character trait specifically relatable for an autistic woman.

sam who was cursed from the start. sam who’s convinced everything he does lets dean down. sam who tries to control his inherent wrongness by harnessing it only to be manipulated into dooming the whole world. sam who’s still sammy, even though he can’t be trusted. sam who’s ’all duct tape and safety pins inside.’ sam winchester, ‘the boy with the demon blood.’ sam my boy <3

The only thing I hate about Supernatural getting popular every few years is the amount of new fans who don't understand Dean or Sam at all
