The Week With Saqeef returns with playlist number 16! I saw a lot of cool bands play this past week, and got a chance to sit down with a couple of album releases that I was excited for, and am pleasantly stoked by how things have been musically! Jordan Rakei recently released his third album, “Origin,” and its UTTERLY AMAZING. It’s absolutely beautiful, and I am entranced by it. It’s quickly becoming one of my favorite albums to listen to. “Mantra” is a wonderful track, almost meditative in its beginning, slowly building momentum as the song progresses. The energy really shifts during the saxophone solo and becomes slightly errajtic and wild, and it’s awesome. Sleepwalkers and Space Gators performed at Schubas this past Monday, and I had the privilege of running lights for their show. Really dug hearing their music and the energy they displayed during their performances! They gave me something different from what I’ve been listening to recently, helping to keep my tastes fresh. They’re also such stand-up, friendly people, too! splits is a new band, and they played their first show by opening for Mt. Pocono last week. Although when I had arrived I was only able to catch their last song, it really smashed! The next day, they put out their EP, and it’s a real banger. Remo Drive also put out a new album, and currently “The Grind” is my go-to song on that record.
