Mr. Smarty Smarts returns to his lair on the slope of the Pacific island’s volcano with an eager grin playing on his face and some sort of disc in his hand.

“I’ve got it, Octocat. This will be the greatest plan ever in the history of evil schemes.”

“Meow, meow, meow,” she intones from her sleeping position, not bothering to open her eyes. That’s what you always say.

“True,” he concedes. “But! This little disc will allow for one-way time travel! I can bookmark an area of the past, and we can travel back! in! time!”

Octocat opens an eye and stretches, but she doesn’t move from her perch.

“Meow, mroww, meow, meow?” Why are you going to mess with the timeline?

“To take us back to the moment we were originally spliced, of course. I’ll take over like the angel Gabriel.”

“Meow, mrrow.” He ruled over water. “Meow, meeeow.” I don’t care for that.

“You’re half-octopus,” Smarty Smarts points out. “And I’m partially a porpoise. It’s foolproof.”

“Mew mew, meow.” Emphasis on the fool.

Smarty Smarts doesn’t hear her, though. He’s got big plans.
