The real comedic subplot of this movie is Yusei mistakenly thinking Jaden is some naive highschool student in way over his head and constantly trying to make sure he’s alright. Meanwhile, Jaden’s over here having just another tuesday.

Yusei answers questions raised by an incorporeal Yubel and Banner despite Jaden giving no context for what they’re talking about, and yea again this is writing taking a backseat for the sake of a 50 minute movie but also either Yusei can hear/see Jaden’s spirits even when Jaden isn’t making an active effort to manifest them, Yusei is just really good at guessing the other half of a conversation, or Jaden and Yusei actually had an extended dialogue that we only catch the tail end of, in this essay I will-

After a week of miserable heat wave, the gods tempt me with a cool, crisp- dare I say- proper autumn afternoon. I have decided to celebrate the atmospheric miracle by doing what I do best:

Curling up in blankets, watching a dumb animated movie, and liveblogging my opinions like I am the Oracle of Delpi if the oracle of delphi had access to an internet connection and also terrible taste in anime.

There are three possibilities here:

1) Yugi’s hair style/aesthetic was more common in the nineties, hence why no one in the og series ever really questioned it. It was just a fad at the time.

2) Yugi became such an icon as the King Of Games that he started a trend and duelists rushed to copy his look. The craze eventually died out, but the context of it originally being inspired by Yugi Moto himself has been lost.

3) Jack Atlas, bleached blond mullet boy with beaded bangs, whose brothers are Orange Afro and Gold Plated Bedhead, has the self awareness of a guinea pig.

Listen, I know it’s the animators just avoiding having to draw another room, but I am now accepting it as canon that the 5ds garage has a sofa in it for Yusei to sleep on when he stays up late working and is too tired to drag himself to his bedroom.
