most interesting phenomenon with regard to sad wet rag ozpin stans is that their attempts to construct apologia for him almost invariably either infantilize him or start from a premise that removed from the "oz is just a sad little boy who has never done wrong" tomfoolery just makes him out to be a million times worse than he really is. there’s a certain type of oz fan so committed to reading the story as virtuous chosen one victimized by the ontological evil that they’ll vilify their virtuous chosen one to do it. and they’re in so deep they don’t even realize that’s what they’re doing.
#''ozpin stopped trying to fulfill his task years ago'' ok so you think apostasy wouldn’t change him in any way?#you think this man would continue a pointless war for a cause he no longer believes in for lifetimes out of…what?#spite? habit? inertia? sheer apathy?#and then these people have the temerity to accuse me of being too harsh on him. the punchline writes itself#i am going to beat you to death with my heaviest commentary on job (kravitz & olisky 2017)

i’m not done, actually. the mental contortions you have to go through to look at ozpin burbling about unity and unprecedented peace and shining symbols of harmony whilst tripling security measures around the four relics after using those relics to end a war in such a horrific way that even his own allies surrendered to him thus giving him an opportunity to design a new world order almost from scratch—which is what salem correctly told him was necessary to reach his goal of absolute unity—and pretend that all of it means ozpin has given up on his god-given task of imposing unity and peace on humankind lest they be judged unworthy and annihilated, is honestly a little impressive.
meanwhile, ozpin:
Remnant survived the Great War, but while the four kingdoms now cooperate and coexist, our bond seems tenuous. We have a fragile peace, and in some ways, we are more divided than ever. Even if the gods aren’t real, even if they don’t return to judge us for our deeds, we should act each day as though they are arriving tomorrow. In the end, we will be the arbiters of our fates. We will either create a beautiful, peaceful world and live in harmony together or destroy ourselves and our planet, and the gods will judge what we have chosen.
is writing straight up evangelical propaganda dressed up in a thin fantasy veneer; and by that i mean “even if you don’t believe in God you should accept jesus into your heart because if i’m wrong nothing bad will happen but if you’re wrong you’ll burn in hell” is rhetoric we were taught to use on non-christian friends in grade school.
if it acts like a duck and quacks like a duck.

#every day i see posts.#''salem is an unreliable narrator too why would you trust what she says abt ozpin''#well because what salem says is an accurate description of his actual actions and stated beliefs mainly#and the thing she’s wrong abt is that she can’t see his emotional turmoil or doubt or that he loved and still loves her#the point of an unreliable narrator is to think critically and assess what they say in context with the observable facts#not to cherry-pick what you do or don’t believe based on blorbo vibes. lol
