Beefleaf mermaid au painting + the concept doodles that got me here

My idea for the au was something like "Shi Qingxuan is chronically ill, so their brother hunted down mermaids to use their scales to make a medicine. The medicine worked, but then Shi Qingxuan found one of the surviving mermaids in the aquarium in their basement." No idea if I'll end up doing anything more with that idea though

Secrets are a big theme today, we might be going through some kind of transformation which is safer to keep private than to openly speak about at the moment. Maybe someone or something is completely eluding us and we are unable to see things clearly. There's an uneasy and somewhat slippery aspect here, something is likely hard to grasp and that may very well be on purpose, something or someone wishes to remain hidden from our knowledge. This can also indicate long journeys and big emotional and physical transformations, this could be indicating the beginning of a very long transformative journey, though this journey is occult in nature skewed in mystery and secrets.

when the princess and sole heir to the throne is assassinated, she’s made to resurrect her - and forced to move to the city and remain by her side in case it happens again

she makes a deal with Death to bring him magical items instead of losing a piece of herself each time, and must search the city for them while navigating the rising civil and political unrest, and her attraction to the princess despite the power she has over her

He does tend to pick up on the newer terms with more exposure to them, but he won't use them first unless he was exposed to or taught them.
