Today I'm spinning one of my own batts made of saved scraps from my drum carder. Each little section reminds me of whatever I was thinking about when I carded the original batt. A wooly walk down memory lane. We're all made up of the pastiche of our life experiences. In this time of so much struggle and division, it feels important to sort through the things that we've defined ourselves by, and decide on which parts will help us become the strongest, most beautiful versions of ourselves. Today I recognize the people who have steered me in the right direction, the conflicts I've walked away from, and the strength I've gained from every hard lesson learned. They say that relationships are defined by the hard times, not the easy ones. I've been thinking a lot about how the pandemic has activated our fight or flight responses. It seems that for a lot of people, one of the hardest parts of this crisis is the damage to interpersonal relationships that we're all suffering through. Today I'm focusing on identifying the ways that my lizard brain has burned bridges, and leading with forgiveness- first for myself, and then for others. We're all doing our best, even when our best sucks. I'm truly sorry to anyone I've had static with during this mess. I've got some bridges to rebuild. Here in Connecticut, we got hit hard by tropical storm Isaias. We lost power for a couple of days, which was inconvenient, but the modern primitive in me gets activated during challenging situations. My wheel only needs my power to spin, and as long as we had light, I could crochet. I truly feel for those who suffered more damage than we did, and I hope that everyone's ok.
