Como bien dice mi biografía... Soy una loca estudiante de enfermería 💉,amante de los 🐱, que vive en una ciudad que no se detiene a la cual tengo que adaptarme día a día. Usaré este espacio para comentarles mis días buenos y malos , los que me hacen amar la vida que me tocó ( es la gran mayoría de los días ❤️) o esos días que uno solo quiere tirar una silla contra la pared y se pregunta qué chucha hice pa merecer esto 🤷🏼‍♀️. La verdad los únicos momentos que me cuestiono porque me tocó esta vida , por que me tocó tener espina bífida y porque mi lesión ( S3-S4) es tan distinta a las de otras personas con la misma patología que yo, es cuando la sociedad define el ser " normal" como algo establecido que tiene que seguir una línea y cualquier cosa que te corra de esa línea ya te deja en una "burbuja" en la cual las personas te definen con palabras como: lisiado, capacidades diferentes, capacidades especiales, discapacitados y otras mil palabras que no se de donde chucha salieron 🤔Desde cuando una persona tiene menos capacidades que otras ? Solo por hacerlo de forma diferente pero llegando al mismo objetivo?. Quizás no ando en silla de ruedas y no uso bastones pero tengo estos OTP que son como mis piernas y tengo que admitir que a veces los odio (y no es por como se ven jajajaja , en verano son un asco por el calor 🙄) , pero mirando solo el lado positivo son los que me han permitido ser una persona independiente ,tampoco que sea la más independiente de todas jajajajjaja soy muy mamona 🙄❤️ y me han permitido poder realizar las actividades de mi día a día y eso incluye mis prácticas clínicas de la carrera que amo y que nunca cambiaría ... Enfermeria 💉❤️ esto es un poco de mi 🍃 después les iré contando de a poquito mis días y las cosas que voy aprendiendo o les puedo dar uno que otro consejo ( soy buena escuchando , bueno leyendo ajajaja 👀) . I know they're out there but I haven't found many SB kids who hasn't had a surgery to correct their hydro. My girl actually had a surgery called Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy/Choroid Plexus Cauterization (ETV/CPC). That's a whole lot of letters! ETV/CPC surgery has about a 50/50 chance of success. Our neurosurgeon said we would know within the first 4-6 weeks of it was successful. We met with her neurosurgeon in his office for a follow up to her back surgery and to check her head for the hydro. He said we needed to take some action as the fluid was building not draining as it should. He suggested we go the ETV/CPC route. Not all SB babies have this option. You have to be the perfect candidate. The right age. The right amount of fluid etc. We had grown to trust this person with our daughter so we decided on the ETV/CPC. Our girl had her surgery nearly a month to the day after she was born. We haven't had any scares or problems since!!! It's been over a year!! We're so excited and blessed we were given this opportunity. So thankful it's been successful! Here's to more successful years in the future! These kids are strong! Never doubt that. Let that sink in...65%. Over half the babies who receive this diagnosis are no longer here with us. As I said before, no 2 cases are the same, so yes some cases are more severe and the parents face different challenges, but you think that 65% weren't even given a chance is astounding. During my 3 pregnancies I declined all testing for abnormalities and such because it just didn't matter to me one way or another. But, to be honest, I probably thought, "that could/ would never be me ". Good plot twist Jesus. You called my bluff. I'm in the phase of just now accepting my new normal. Our first year was rough. I can not imagine our life without Reagan. She definitely completes us. Her sassy attitude, her silliness, her curiosity is nothing short of amazing. This is just ONE small part of her, there's so much more to her. I can't wait to see what she does next. October, as I'm finding, is a month of awareness, for a lot of disorders. October means something a little more special to me, as it is Spina Bifida Awareness Month. Spina Bifida in Latin means "split spine", meaning the spine doesn't fully develop inside the body like typical kids. One of the most maddening things I have learned on this journey is that Spina Bifida is a "snowflake condition" meaning no two cases are the same. So not only are we on this hard journey, there's no one else in the same situation that we are in. We're possibly in same chapter of a book, potentially the same page, but never the same sentence. So this can be isolating, but let's take a journey together this month and shed light on something I never knew about roughly 2 years ago. First up, Spina Bifida is NOT a death sentence.
