Theres much talk on Father Child dynamics in hallownest like PK, Grimm, Sly but I like thinking about the moms of hallownest a lot.

Sometimes I wonder If Flukemarms title "Alluring Goddess of Motherhood" is objective or definitive. The role of mothers is expressed a lot in game, with emphasis on breeding. Something we'd call dehumanizing but is honestly all that "motherhood" could possibly be in Hallownest society. Of course they are bug people so having a ton of kids is a big part of even being a mom but the game does mention the nurturing aspects.

Hermie is obviously neglected by the Marm and so is her sisters, after Flukemarm dies, she immediately assumes she has to fulfill the role as the Marm/Mother. When it could've easily been ignored, theres emphasis on WL's guilt for not abstaining when she knew she was unwilling/incapable of nurturing. A big Mother Child dynamic like Hornet and Herrah is so vauge and rich with possible nuances. Herrah had Hornet as an heir and by her current and cut dialog there was alot of affection or value she had for her, nurturing and loving in her final days as best she could. But, it could also be seen as self-serving for a hopeless royal line, Herrah married a high caste SpiderTribe member, the implication (had Hallownest been saved) is that Hornet will also one day have to burden on becoming a mother and bride to continue what her mother literally gave her life for.

Maybe it just ties into the general parent child motifs seen all throughout the game, maybe its just fun bug stuff. Theres probably something you could look into about motherhood in hollowknight's world, but something something Hunter quote

"The desire to breed, to leave behind a memory of ourselves in the shape of a child... it seems to be etched deep into the heart of every living creature."
