Why a Dane Axe?

So Wolfs spidermancostume goes along with a Dane Axe. this is on a character level of course a pun on the “poor mans sword” as swords are very expensive and usually most people fighting had a sort of axe (usually one-hand axe with a big blade that could be used for woodhacking as a tool. Axes with small heads like dane axes are specifically for fighting) to defend themself since they did not had the money to buy a sword. Usually when actually working as Guards those people invest their money in chainmail armor. Swords are a weapon,but specifically are also a symbol of wealth so swords are for rich people and Wolf as Spiderman is really not a rich person.

However,a in universe reason as to why Wolf uses a Dane Axe not only as a weapon (to hook behind shields, hit over shields, hook behind arms or feet to rip people out of a stance,to hold right behind the axehead to use the metal to hit someone and break bones, to use the hold to block strikes or hit people with the wooden end to break bones etc..) but as a tool to climb building and swing around is,that there are historic songs written about a daneaxeactually beeing used this way. Wolf is not of northgermany or danmark, so she does not has had contact to Varangian Guards or merchants who use this weapon regulary, but she lived in Cologne and she heard the songs about St.Olaf in Heimskringla in which Hundr used such a axe to hook the axehead behind a palisade and pull himself up and over it with that axe.

In Wolfs case the Sagas happned up to a hundred years before her time, so living around Cologne as the most biggest town in the area and a massive (a massive!) tradingcentrum of her eras middleeurope, she naturally had heard those stories and songs. Now considering Wolfs equipment is as mentioned already considered “old” (the helmet, the hauberk, the leatherarmor, the gambeson), her using the dane axe is her using a element of a story she grew up with and influenced her just like superhero comics would inspire a child hundred of years later to become a superhero themself with a costume when they get powers. Its therefor a part of her living world as a story she was inspired by.

Naturally its also because her spiderman attire is put together by pieces of armor and attire of Varangian Guards and Tempalr Knights who had seeked out Asada for Healing and let part of their attire with her as a payment, so of course as Varangian Guards still are more likely to use a dane axe instead of a sword, she also uses the dane axe because its a very normal choice of weapon for people that are not knights.
