MJ stands in front of the mirror, tapping her fingers against the shimmering, gold vanity in unison with the steady rhythm of her breathing. Her hair flows like a gentle waterfall in perfect curls as it cascades down her back, in its fresh red dye. The gown she wears hugs her slim, dancer body and trails behind her ankles elegantly-- it must be the most beautiful thing she’s ever worn. 

She should feel good about all of this. It’s perfect, isn’t it? And yes, she’s proud. She’s beyond proud of everything she’s accomplished. But she’s forgotten something. 

She picks her phone up off the vanity and opens it, trying not to look at the last text on the screen. 

Peter: see you tomorrow ❤️

And three hours later she still hadn’t replied. Yes, she and Peter got into an argument on the way to the airport. But for fuck’s sake the man was still willing to express his excitement to see her soon. 

She stops herself from sending a text, and instead clicks the “call” icon. Of course, Peter is quick to pick up. 

“Hey, baby,” he greets, his voice slowed with exhaustion, “isn’t your event starting soon?”

“In ten minutes,” she replies, staring down at the vanity as she traces her fingers along its sharp edges, “I just… I forgot something.”

“Oh shit-” she hears a little thud as he lands on a sign, pausing his Spider-Man duties, “what is it?”

“I…” the words briefly freeze on her tongue, then her lips melt into a smile and she lets out a sigh of relief as she says:

“I love you. Can’t wait to see you tomorrow.”

There are a billionnn of them! I’ll talk about Most Ardently though lol. 

It’s a Celebrity AU mashed up with some P&P vibes! I love it so much. It’s been a second since I wrote it, but I did just do some work with the outline that has me set until the end of the fic!

14: At what point in writing do you come up with a title?

Does one ever really come up with a title? Or does the title emerge from the ghosts of a thousand discarded title fragments, held together only by my dying “good enough?” 

19: Is there something you always find yourself repeating in your writing? (favourite verb, something you describe ‘too often’, trope you can’t get enough of?)

LOTS of “...”s. Lots of em. And then just run on sentences, or sentences where I purposefully make lists without using commas because I want the pacing of the words in your head to be evenly divided. Kinda like a triplet in music but like writing

hey! Alrighty so, this fic I’ve been hanging onto since 2020 but it’s a cute idea imo. It’s about a bakery Uncle Ben owned when he was alive and how Peter grew up with it as his safe place (featuring Peter’s dyslexia and Ben’s dyscalculia)

“How’s homework going, Pete?” Ben asked as he pulled a tray of muffins from the oven. 

Peter (about ten years old, now) sat at the little table Ben set up for him, kicking his legs as he stared down at his worksheet full of multiplication problems. 

“I’m almost done,” Peter replied, “I got one more.”

“Why don’t you tell it to me?” Ben offered, as he always enjoyed hearing Peter’s thought process as he worked through the numbers with ease. 

“Mkay. It’s five times two-hundred and eighty,” Peter said as he jotted down the numbers, stacked on top of each other, in his messy, boyish handwriting.

“And tell me how you do that?” he requested, sticking a toothpick into a few muffins to check their progress. 

“But you already know how,” Peter chuckled, not looking up from his homework.

“Actually, I don’t—” he put the muffins back in the oven and set a timer “— I always struggled with math.”

Peter paused and his eyes drifted to the top of the page where a handful of instructions lay. He stared at the jumble of characters, hating the way they blurred together into hardly recognizable blobs— just like every other stupid word he was expected to read.

“Like how I can’t read?” Peter finally muttered.

Ben smiled down at the boy fondly and nodded, “just like that.”

“I can teach you how to do it,” Peter beamed up at his uncle, “first you have to stack the numbers on top of each other— like this…
