this is a one-shot
lowercase intended !
a/n: attention part 5 kinda put me on writers block but i decided to write this one since i was bored :> i’m also working on a requested fic outside of attention.
the city that never sleeps was shrouded in darkness, illuminated only by the bright lights of skyscrapers and streetlights. the sound of sirens wailing in the distance, and there ethan was, swinging through the city, he was absolutely fucked. his heart pounding with the adrenaline of the chase.
as he approached his apartment, the windows were dark, indicating most of the residents were probably asleep. he swung onto his window and shook as he stuck onto the brick wall right below.
“shit.” ethan winced in pain as he realized how badly he was injured. some parts of the spandex were ripped and torn, showing terrible bruises. he couldn’t afford to let his guard down, not for one damn second. opening the window to his room, stumbling inside, his body aching and exhausted, that was until he heard a gasp.
“what the fuck?!” you yelled as he turned around, trying to speak but his voice was hoarse from the fight, picking up a lamp, using it as a weapon.
“back up, back up, right now.”
he quickly put up his hands in surrender to try to stop you, taking off his mask, revealing his bruised face.
“eth?” you stammered as you dropped the lamp in disbelief, stepping away from him, he tried to move closer, but you still stepped away.
“what the hell are you doing in my dorm???” he asked, trying to move his injured arm.
“you’re the spiderman guy from youtube, oh shit shit shit, my boyfriend’s a superhero- that was you?!” you exclaimed, gesturing to his costume.
“baby, baby, baby, it’s not what it looks like-“ he said before getting cut off. “oh it’s exactly what it looks like, ethan.”
“i didn’t want you to know, it’s for your safety. please- i’m sorry i scared you.” he explained as you stared, still in shock.
you want to be there for him, to support him in everything he does. but how can you do that if he’s keeping such a big part of himself hidden from you? how can you trust him completely if he’s not willing to trust you with his secrets?
you had never seen him like this before, vulnerable and beaten. "let me help you," you said, walking over to him. "we need to get you cleaned up."
you carefully thread the needle and begin to stitch up your boyfriend’s wounds. the small apartment is quiet except for the occasional grunt of pain that escapes from ethan’s lips. as you work, you can't help but feel a sense of sadness that he didn't trust you enough to reveal his secret identity as spiderman.
"ouch," he winces as you pull the thread tight. "sorry, baby," you say softly, trying to be as gentle as possible. "it’s not your fault," he replies, giving you a small smile. "i just hate the thought of you being hurt because of me."
and now, the room was quiet except for the sound of the needle piercing through his skin. you were focused, tongue sticking out the side of your mouth, as you carefully stitched up the gash on his arm. the room was dimly lit, and the only light came from the lamp on the desk, casting shadows on his bruised and bloody face. he winced in pain as the needle went in and out of his skin, but he didn't say a word anymore. you could feel the tension in the air, the unease of what just happened.
finally, you finished stitching up his arm and tied a knot, cutting off the thread. you looked up at him, and your eyes met his. ethan didn't say anything, but you could see the guilt in his expression. you sighed, "eth, why didn't you tell me?" he looked down at his hands, "i don’t fucking know, i didn't want to put you in danger." you placed a hand on his cheek, "i can handle myself. we don't keep secrets from each other, remember?" he nodded and pulled you in for a hug.
you both stayed like that for a while, wrapped in each other's arms, just enjoying the comfort of being close. eventually, ethan pulled away, "i need to change out of this suit." You nodded, "i’ll wait." as he went into the bathroom to change, you took the time to clean up the bloodied supplies and put them away.
when he came out, he was wearing a plain white t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants. he looked at you with a small smile, "thanks for waiting." You grinned back, "of course, i wouldn't want to miss seeing you in your sweatpants." he chuckled, "you’re lucky you're cute." you stuck out your tongue in response, and he leaned in to give you a quick kiss on the lips.
you both got into bed, snuggling up against him, your head on his chest. the silence was comfortable, and you could hear the sound of his heartbeat under your ear. it was moments like these that made you feel complete, like nothing else in the world mattered as long as you had him by your side.
as you both drifted off to sleep, he whispered, "i love you." you smiled, "oh, come on, you know i love you too." and with that, you both fell into a peaceful slumber, wrapped up in each other's love and warmth.
the two of you lay there in silence, listening to each other's breathing. it was moments like these that made you realize how much you loved him. even though you had only been dating for a month, it felt like you had known each other forever.
"hey," he whispered, breaking the silence. "are you still awake?"
you smiled and turned to face him, "hell yeah, i am.”
"i just wanted to say that i’m sorry for keeping my identity a secret from you," he said, his voice barely audible. "i wanted to tell you, but i was scared. i didn’t want to put you in danger."
you took his hand, "i understand, eth. you don't have to apologize. i’m just glad that you trust me enough to tell me now, even if you didn’t really tell me, instead scared me.”
ethan squeezed your hand, and you knew that everything would be okay.

There was about a week left to film Scream Six. Over the last few months, you have grown so close with the cast, both you, Jack and Devyn were welcomed with open arms. There was always something fun happening on set with everyone.
And with the last few days of your shoot, you decided to hang out longer on set even if you were done. At some point you and Jack became inseparable. always being at each other's sides having inside jokes. everyone saw the feelings you two had for each other and so did you, but both of you wanted to wait until filming and the press tour were done before going any further.
you were waiting for him in his trailer while he finished shooting his last scene. mindlessly scrolling through your phone you looked up seeing the door open. he came in with his blue shirt with fake blood on the front when he saw you he had this big smile. "oh there you are i was looking for you" he came in and closed the door behind him.
"been here the whole time" you sat up a little bit so he could sit next to you. he had a tired expression "long shoot?" you asked turning to him you rested on the back of the couch holding your head up.
he took the spot next to you closing his eyes for a moment and nodded. you kept quiet knowing he needed the silence. he eventually turned his head to you with a small smile on his lips. "what?" your voice was in a low whisper.
he lets his eyes linger on your face taking in all your little details. his eyes drifted taking in the familiar color jacket. he lifted his head and looked at the jacket closer then looked back at you.
you had a small smile on your face the corners of your lips tugged up as you looked at him. he reached out grabbing the material. then looked back at you. "is- is that mine?" he asked with a softness and with a chuckle following it.
you looked down and smiles "i got cold" you didn't answer his question so he looked at you reached up to lift your chin up.
"did you take my jacket?" he asked his voice soft but also raspy from being tired.
you nodded "i was cold and it was just here on the couch" a big smile took over his face as he thought about how cute you were. his hand brushing your jawline so softly.
"you know i like you wearing it" he said softly. your cheeks filled with a heat as you blushed.
your heart beating fast at this little moment. his chest also pounding from his heart rate. "keep wearing it" he let go of your chin and let his hand rest back into his lap.
you guys stayed in his trailer for another hour just talking and sharing soft little touches. the desire for the press tour and filming wanting to be over faster.

The autumn breeze rustled through the trees lining the campus walkway, sending a cascade of amber and gold leaves swirling around your feet. You adjusted the strap of your backpack, the weight of your textbooks a constant reminder of the mountain of assignments waiting for you and Ethan back at your shared apartment. With the chill in the air, you quickened your pace, eager to get to your next class.
As you rounded the corner of the science building, a familiar voice cut through the crisp autumn air.
"Hey! Wait up!"
You turned, surprised to see Harry Osborn jogging toward you. His designer shoes, polished to a mirror shine, barely made a sound on the concrete path. His perfectly coiffed hair was miraculously untouched by the breeze, and you couldn't help but wonder how he managed to always look so impeccably put together.
"Harry," you greeted him, your smile genuine. "I didn’t know you were back in town."
He fell into step beside you with an easy grace, his grin widening. "Just got back yesterday. Couldn't stay away from the city for too long, you know? Besides, I've got some exciting new projects in the works."
You nodded, genuinely intrigued. Harry had left college a year ago to take over his father’s company, Oscorp. In that time, he’d transformed it into a cutting-edge tech giant. "That’s great, Harry. I’m sure Ethan will be thrilled to hear about it."
For a brief moment, a flicker of something – was it disappointment? – crossed Harry’s face before his charismatic smile returned. "Oh, I’m sure he will. Speaking of which, how is our friendly neighborhood nerd?"
You playfully swatted his arm, the warmth of your gesture contrasting with the crisp air. "Be nice. Ethan’s doing well. Busy with classes and his internship, but that’s nothing new."
Harry chuckled, his eyes dancing with a hint of mischief. "Some things never change."
He paused for a moment, his expression turning more thoughtful. "Listen, I was thinking of having a little get-together this weekend. You know, to celebrate my triumphant return to New York. You should definitely come."
“I’ll check with Ethan and let you know,” you said, his eyebrow twitched in thought, clearing his throat before picking up his step again, catching up with you.
“Right, Ethan’s totally invited as well.”
The air between you and Harry crackled with the electric tension of old friendships and unspoken words. Ethan had told you many times about how the sweet and kind Harry had been replaced by a cocky and dismissive one ever since he left for the business.
“Perfect,” you replied, trying to keep the conversation light. The two of you walked in companionable silence for a few moments, the autumn leaves crunching beneath your steps. The campus was alive with the subdued hum of students rushing to their next classes, their breath visible in the chilly air.
You wondered if Harry's demeanor had truly changed that much, if his new projects were as thrilling as he made them sound. The thought lingered as you both reached the entrance to your next class.
Harry glanced at his watch, then back at you, his smile easing into a more contemplative expression. "Anyway, I'll let you get to your class. But seriously, think about coming to the party. It’ll be good to catch up."
You nodded, appreciating his offer despite the undercurrent of tension you couldn't quite place. "I’ll definitely think about it. It’s good to see you back, Harry."
He gave you a quick hug, surprisingly, and then turned on his heel, heading off in the opposite direction. You watched him go, his back straight and confident as he vanished into the crowd of students, your eyebrows furrowed.
Before you could think any harder on the sudden appearance of Harry, you felt a finger poke your side.
The unexpected poke pulled you from your thoughts, and you turned to find Ethan standing beside you, his usual wide-eyed excitement tempered with a soft smile. The slight dishevelment of Ethan’s hair, a product of a long day, only made his presence feel more comforting.
“Hey there,” Ethan said, “Got you this.” He held up the warm coffee cup to you.
You gratefully accepted the coffee from Ethan, its warmth seeping through your fingers and chasing away the autumn chill. You moved to kiss his cheek, cupping his face before fixing the hair strand that had fallen on his forehead.  "Thanks, Eth. You're a lifesaver."
Ethan's eyes crinkled with affection as he watched you take a sip. "Thought you might need a pick-me-up before your next class. How's your day been so far?"
You hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to mention your encounter with Harry just yet. "It's been... interesting," you said finally. "Actually, I ran into Harry Osborn a few minutes ago."
Ethan's stance stilled for a moment. "Oh?" he said, his voice carefully neutral. "How is he?"
“Um, he is well. I think.” you said, taking another sip and moving to link your hands together before sitting on one of the stone benches on the side of campus. “He seems excited to be back.”
Ethan’s eyes narrowed slightly, and he sat down beside you, the warmth of the coffee in your hands a stark contrast to the chill of the air. The stone bench felt solid beneath you, its surface cool but welcoming. You could sense a subtle shift in Ethan's mood, a quiet caution that spoke volumes despite his outward calm.
“Are you not happy that he’s back? Maybe he’s not so bad anymore.”
Ethan sighed, his gaze fixed on a cluster of students hurrying past, their breath misting in the air. The campus, bathed in golden sunlight, seemed oblivious to the undercurrents of tension. His fingers drummed absently against his own coffee cup, a rhythmic counterpoint to the rustling leaves.
"I don’t know," Ethan said slowly. His voice carried a weight of unspoken concerns. "Harry’s been… different since he left. When he was here, he was one of the good guys, you know? But after he took over his father's company, he became more – well, an ass."
You nodded, understanding more than you could put into words. Ethan’s words resonated with a truth you had glimpsed in Harry’s brief visit. The charm and confidence seemed genuine, but there was a layer of something unspoken, a hint of the past that lingered in his eyes.
Ethan’s gaze softened as he looked at you. "It’s just that–" he hesitated, choosing his words carefully. “It doesn’t matter.”
You reached up to his hair again, fixing the few curly strands that had messily moved out of place because of the breeze. “How was your exam?”
Ethan's lips quirked into a small smile at your tender gesture, and for a moment, the campus around you seemed to blur, leaving just the two of you in a cocoon of shared warmth and familiarity. “It was pretty intense, but I think I did okay,” he said, his voice holding a note of cautious optimism.
“I’m sure you did great,” you said reassuringly, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. “You always do. Besides, you’ve been working so hard lately. You deserve a break.”
Ethan’s smile widened, his eyes reflecting a mix of relief and affection. “I’ve been looking forward to catching up on some downtime. Maybe a movie night this weekend?”
You hesitated, the memory of Harry’s invitation resurfacing.
"About this weekend," you began carefully, your eyes searching Ethan's face. "Harry mentioned he's throwing a party. He invited us both."
Ethan's expression shifted, a flicker of emotion passing across his features before settling into a carefully neutral mask. "Oh," he said, his voice measured. "I see."
You watched him closely, trying to gauge his reaction. "We don't have to go if you're not comfortable with it," you offered, your voice soft. "I know things have been... complicated with him."
Ethan was quiet for a moment, his gaze distant as he seemed to consider the situation. The campus bustled around you, students rushing to and from classes, oblivious to the delicate conversation unfolding on the stone bench.
Finally, Ethan turned back to you, a small, resigned smile on his face. "No, it's okay. Maybe it would be good to see Harry again. Who knows? Maybe things have changed."
You squeezed his hand gently, appreciating his willingness to give Harry a chance. "Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I could use a break from Uni anyway.”
“I’ll let Harry know we’ll be there."
He sighed, stretching his arms out and grinning at you before resting his chin on your shoulder, his coffee cup empty and sitting next to him. “Pizza tonight?”
As Ethan’s arms draped around you, you felt the comforting weight of his embrace, the warmth from his body a soothing balm against the cool autumn air. The campus around you seemed to fade into the background, the golden sunlight casting a soft glow over the scene. You nestled into him, savoring the simplicity of the moment.
“Pizza it is,” you agreed with a laugh, leaning into Ethan's shoulder. “And I’ll definitely need it to recover from Mr. Kunning’s lecture. He’s been relentless lately.”
Ethan’s laughter was a low rumble against your ear, a sound that always had the power to lift your spirits.
His fingers began to trace absent circles on your back, his touch light and reassuring. When the loudly frustrating phone alarm rang from your pocket, Ethan stood up, stretching his arms above his head with a dramatic yawn. “Alright, back to the grind for you.”
You huffed, taking one last sip of your cup before resting your forehead on his chest dramatically. “You’re done for the day and I’m stuck here.”
He kissed your hair, “You’ll survive. Just think about the pizza later.”
“I’ll be thinking about it all afternoon, trust me.”
Ethan’s nose brushed against your neck, the touch tender and fleeting, a silent promise of the comfort that awaited you later. You looked up at him, catching the sparkle of mischief in his eyes as he slowly pulled away.
“Alright, off you go,” he said with a playful nudge. “And remember, the sooner you finish your classes, the sooner we get to pizza.”
You gave him a wry smile, reluctantly pulling away from the hug.  “Don’t think I’m not looking forward to it,”
Before turning to walk away, you reached up and planted a quick, affectionate kiss on his lips. Ethan’s eyes softened, and he grinned, the hint of a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.
He waved, his grin wide and infectious as he watched you walk away. You couldn’t help but smile, feeling his warmth linger even as he receded into the bustling campus crowd.
Later that evening, once the sky had cleared into a darker blue, you unlocked the door to your apartment, the smell of slightly burnt pizza greeting you as you stepped inside. You found Ethan in the kitchen, frantically waving a dish towel at the smoking oven.
"Uh, welcome home?" he said sheepishly, his glasses slightly askew and a smudge of flour on his cheek. "I may have slightly miscalculated the cooking time."
You couldn't help but laugh as you set down your bag and moved to help him. Ethan's cheeks reddened slightly as he ran a hand through his already messy hair.
"Maybe we should order in instead?" you suggested, trying to suppress a giggle as Ethan sheepishly nodded in agreement, desperately throwing out the crusted and burnt pizza.
As you settled on the worn-out couch with your delivery pizza, Ethan's arm draped comfortably around your shoulders. The TV hummed softly in the background, he nipped kisses on your neck, moving to your jaw and to your collarbone as you finished your last piece, you hummed a laugh as you felt him reach your cheek – obviously wanting you to finish your last bites so he could steal a kiss.
Finally, with a playful glint in his eyes, stole the last slice of pizza from your hands, and you laughed, swatting his hand away. “I’m not done with that!” you protested, though your smile betrayed your amusement.
He shrugged, leaving it on the plate before shifting his body closer to yours, a hummed laugh escaping his lips before he placed his mouth on yours. The kiss was soft, Ethan’s lips were gentle against yours, the playful urgency of his earlier mischief replaced by a deeper, more affectionate tenderness.
Just when Ethan’s hand moved to cup your cheek to deepen the kiss, your phone buzzed on the couch, making you both pull away. Harry’s ‘Ok, see you ;)’ text lit up your screen, a response to your earlier message saying you and Ethan would show up at his party.
You pulled back slightly, your lips still tingling from Ethan's kiss. His eyes met yours, a glint of curiosity mingling with something more unsettling – an undercurrent of jealousy.
Ethan glanced at the phone screen and the text from Harry, his expression shifting. The playfulness that had been present moments ago was replaced by a furrowed brow and a slight frown. “Harry’s already getting all chummy,” he said, his voice carrying a hint of edge.
You could sense the tension building between you, and you took Ethan’s hand gently, trying to bridge the gap. “It’s just a text. I’m sure he’s excited to see us.”
Ethan nodded, but the tightness in his jaw suggested he was still wrestling with his feelings. He leaned back on the couch, pulling you closer to him, though the warmth of his embrace now felt slightly strained.
“Yeah, maybe.” Ethan said, his eyes not quite meeting yours, gaze shifting to the TV again.
You reached to touch his chin, tilting your head as you looked at his profile. “We don’t have to stay long. We can just make an appearance and leave if it gets uncomfortable.”
He nodded, still quiet, and moved to run his fingers over your arm, tracing circles as you toyed with his hair. “I need to cut it,” he mumbled, feeling you twist one of his curls with your fingers. “It’s too long now.”
As you ran your fingers through Ethan’s curls, the soft strands slipping through your fingers, you could feel the subtle tension in his muscles slowly easing.
“It’s cute,” you murmured, a playful lilt in your voice. “I like the way it looks.”
"Really?" Ethan asked, his tone betraying a mix of surprise and gratitude. "I thought it was getting a bit unruly."
You smiled, leaning closer to him. "I think it looks great, I like your curls."
Ethan’s eyes softened as he looked at you, his earlier unease momentarily forgotten. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to your forehead, his lips warm and reassuring against your skin. The gesture was simple, but it carried an intimacy that made the room feel even more cozy and safe.
The hum of the TV was a comforting backdrop to your conversation. As the evening wore on, you found yourselves wrapped in each other’s presence, the earlier worries about Harry’s party momentarily pushed to the back of your minds.
____________
“Why didn’t he tell us it was fancy?” Ethan grumbled under his breath, his hand on the small of your back and the other in his jean pocket. His eyes scanned the room, all the other guests wearing much less comfortable clothes.
His other hand was stuffed into his jeans pocket, fingers gripping nervously at the fabric. His eyes darted around the room, taking in the sea of sharply dressed guests – men in tailored shirts and women in elegant dresses, their laughter mingling with the clink of glasses and the soft strains of a live string quartet. It felt almost like you didn’t belong there.
Ethan was convinced Harry did it on purpose, to embarrass him, to rub his new persona and belittle him.
You looked down at your own outfit – a simple dress paired with comfortable shoes – feeling slightly out of place among the opulent surroundings.
You squeezed his hand, trying to offer some comfort. “I guess we should have asked for more details.”
Harry across the room drew your attention. He was talking animatedly with a group of guests, his tailored suit hugging his frame perfectly, a sharp contrast to the more casual attire you and Ethan had opted for. His eyes met yours briefly, and he flashed a dazzling smile, waving you over.
“Well, there’s no turning back now,” you said with a small, reassuring smile. “Let’s go say hi. I’m sure Harry will understand.”
Ethan gave a reluctant nod and adjusted his slightly wrinkled shirt, trying to smooth out the creases as you both made your way through the crowd.
As you approached, Harry’s smile widened. He greeted you with a warm hug, his demeanor friendly but carrying a certain air of polished detachment. “You came!”
Ethan grinded his teeth, obviously noticing Harry’s ignorance of his presence, fully focused on you.
“Ethan, good to see you!” Harry said, his tone sincere but carrying an undertone of distance. He extended his hand, which Ethan shook firmly, though his grip was slightly more reserved than usual.
Ethan forced a tight smile. Harry’s gaze moved to where Ethan’s hand rested, he lifted his brows at the grounding touch. You could sense Ethan’s irritation simmering just beneath the surface.
Smirking, Harry took a step closer, uttering your name before offering you to go fetch a drink, he pointed at the bottle-filled table a few feet away- You reluctantly stepped away, giving Ethan one last reassuring look before making your way to grab two cups. Ethan took a step forward, ready to follow behind you and leave Harry behind, but his old friend’s pull on his shirt stopped him.
“Still pining after her, eh? Haven’t moved on yet, I see.”
Ethan’s jaw tightened at Harry’s comment, the edge of irritation sharpening in his eyes. The gentle hum of the string quartet and the murmur of conversations around you seemed to fade as Harry’s words hung in the air. You glanced back at Ethan, noticing the flicker of hurt and frustration on his face.
“Not at all,” Ethan said, his voice a controlled rasp. He tried to mask his irritation with a forced smile, but the tension in his posture was evident. “We’re together.”
Harry’s eyes widened slightly, but his smile didn’t falter. Ethan’s eyes didn’t leave your figure, grasping at any chance to avoid Harry’s smirk and heavy stare. “Hm,” Harry taunted, “She didn’t mention it when we bumped into each other.”
Ethan wasn’t stupid, he knew Harry and he knew that tone. He was taunting him. Ethan's hands clenched at his sides, his knuckles turning white as he struggled to maintain his composure. The party around them seemed to fade into the background, the laughter and music becoming a distant hum as he focused on Harry's words.
"It was a two minute conversation," Ethan said, his voice low and controlled. He took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm of emotions brewing inside him. "Or maybe she thought you already knew, considering we've been together for a while now."
Harry's eyebrows raised slightly, a flicker of something – surprise? disappointment? – crossing his face before his usual charming smile slid back into place. "Well, congratulations are in order then," he said, clapping Ethan on the shoulder. The gesture felt more patronizing than friendly.
Ethan's eyes narrowed at Harry's words, a mixture of hurt and anger bubbling beneath the surface. He opened his mouth to respond, but you returned at that moment, two glasses in hand.
"Here we go," you said, handing a drink to Ethan. Your smile faltered as you sensed the tension between the two men. You leaned towards Ethan, his arm instinctively wrapping around your waist.  "Is everything okay?"
Harry's charming grin returned in full force. "Of course! Just catching up with Eth here. It's been too long, hasn't it?"
Ethan nodded stiffly, his fingers tightening around the glass. "Yeah, too long," he echoed, his voice lacking any real enthusiasm.
“How long have you been...?" He gestured between you and Ethan, his tricky smile never wavering.
Ethan opened his mouth to respond, but you beat him to it. "We've been together for almost a year now," you said, leaning into Ethan's side.
Harry couldn’t hold in a chuckle, patting Ethan’s shoulder, almost as if they were the closest friends. “How did thathappen?”
You could feel Ethan's muscles stiffen beside you, his grip on his drink tightening as Harry’s words continued to grate on his nerves. Sensing the tension, you cleared your throat, wishing to change the subject.
The tension in Ethan's body was palpable, his arm around your waist almost rigid. You leaned into him slightly, hoping to offer some comfort.
"So, Harry," you began, trying to ease the tension, "tell us about these new projects you mentioned. They sound exciting."
Harry's eyes lit up, and he launched into an animated description of Oscorp's latest ventures. As he spoke, his gaze kept flicking back to you, his smile widening each time he caught your eye. Ethan stood silently beside you, his posture growing increasingly tense with each passing moment.
You could feel the unease radiating from Ethan, a tangible undercurrent to the lively atmosphere of the party. As Harry delved into his latest projects, you listened with half an ear, your attention focused more on Ethan’s discomfort. His fingers drummed against his glass, the rhythm betraying his inner turmoil.
Harry’s voice rose above the murmur of the crowd, punctuated by occasional bursts of laughter from the guests. He spoke of cutting-edge technology and revolutionary breakthroughs, his enthusiasm palpable.
Every time you’d turn your head to look at Ethan, Harry’s hand would land on your arm, his posture changing to lean closer to you so you’d pay attention to him. Even though you moved away, Harry was too immersed into his own words to contemplate.
Ethan was sure his eyes were going to pop out of their sockets if he stared at the guy in front of him any harder, a glare on his face as he gripped the cup in his hand, knuckled white. He watched as Harry made flirty comments, practically begging for your attention as he spoke, his superior tone and words itching Ethan wrong. Every time he’d mention an experiment, he’d throw a jab at Ethan’s internship.
You could see the tightness in Ethan’s jaw, the way his fingers clenched around his drink, struggling to keep his cool amidst Harry’s veiled taunts.
Harry leaned in closer, his hand resting lightly on your arm as he spoke, you shook it off but he didn’t seem to mind as he continued to speak. The closeness made Ethan’s discomfort even more palpable, and you could feel him stiffening beside you. His gaze remained fixed on Harry, his eyes narrowing with a mix of resentment and helplessness.
As Harry mentioned a recent ‘breakthrough’ at Oscorp, he casually tossed in a remark about how ‘not everyone can be on the cutting edge of technology,’ a thinly veiled jab at Ethan’s more modest internship. The words cut through Ethan like a knife, his grip on his glass tightening to the point where the glass began to crack.
You didn’t immediately notice, too absorbed in trying to smile and nod in hopes for Harry to finish his story and scurry your way home. The moment you felt Ethan’s tension peak, however, you turned to look at him and gasped.
A sharp crack echoed through the room as the glass shattered in Ethan’s hand. The fragmented pieces fell to the floor with a clatter, drawing startled glances from nearby guests. Ethan’s face went pale as he stared down at the mess, the remnants of his drink staining his fingers and the floor, a few drops of blood on his hand.
You quickly stepped forward, setting your own glass down on a nearby table before turning to Ethan. “Are you okay?” you asked, your voice filled with concern as you took his hand gently.
Ethan’s gaze was fixed on the broken glass, his breathing uneven as he tried to regain his composure. “Yeah, I’m fine,” he said, his voice strained. His attempt at a calm demeanor was betrayed by the slight tremor in his hand and the angry flush of his cheeks.
Harry’s eyes widened with a mixture of surprise and amusement, though he tried to mask it with a concerned look. “Careful there, Eth,” he said, his tone dripping with false sympathy.
“Gotta watch out for that strength of yours” Harry joked, though he was the only one that laughed.
The Spider-Man joke flew over everyone’s heads, but Ethan tightened his jaw, glaring daggers at him.
The party’s chatter buzzed on, but the broken glass seemed to have created a vacuum around you and Ethan. You knelt beside him, gathering the larger shards with quick, practiced movements. The sharp edges glinted ominously under the soft lighting of the room. You could feel the discomfort radiating off Ethan, his frustration a palpable force that threatened to bubble over.
“Just stay still,” you murmured, carefully avoiding the smaller shards as you focused on his injured hand. The room seemed to hold its breath as you worked, the elegant surroundings contrasting sharply with the tense drama unfolding in the corner.
Ethan’s eyes flicked between the broken glass and Harry’s insincere expression. He tried to mask his irritation with a strained smile, but his attempt to keep his cool was failing. “I’ve got it,” he said, his voice taut. “Thanks for the help.”
Harry’s false concern was almost unbearable. “You should really be more careful,” he said, his voice dripping with condescension. “Maybe not everyone’s cut out for the finer things.”
You felt your patience thin as Harry’s gaze lingered on Ethan, his smile turning into a smirk. You shot him a look of icy displeasure before focusing entirely on Ethan, whose face was now a mix of anger and embarrassment.
“It’s alright, Ethan,” you said softly, trying to soothe him. “Let me just get this cleaned up.”
As you retrieved a nearby napkin, you could feel Ethan’s eyes on Harry, his irritation barely contained. You noticed Harry’s smirk falter slightly, his eyes narrowing as he realized his attempt to needle Ethan wasn’t working as intended. The party guests had returned to their conversations, though a few still glanced over curiously.
“Do you need any help?” Harry asked, his voice carrying an edge of false concern. His gaze shifted between you and Ethan, a flicker of satisfaction dancing in his eyes at the scene unfolding before him.
“I think we’ve got it covered,” you said firmly, your tone leaving no room for further intrusion. “But thanks.”
Ethan’s hand was now reasonably cleaned, though the redness from his grip was still evident. He looked up at you, his eyes reflecting his appreciation for your support. You could see the frustration slowly ebbing away, replaced by a determined resolve.
“We’ll walk ourselves out.” you clung to Ethan’s shirt, pulling him behind you as you walked towards the door without a second look at Harry.
Ethan exhaled heavily, his shoulders slumping slightly as he tried to shake off the lingering tension as you entered the glass elevator. “I’m sorry about that,” he said, his voice low. “I didn’t mean to cause a scene.”
You shook your head, offering him a comforting smile. “He was being an ass.” you referred to what Ethan had called him just days before, earning a small smile from him.
As the glass elevator doors slid shut behind you, the distant noise of the party became a muted hum, replaced by the soft chime of the elevator’s ascent. You stood side by side with Ethan, the gentle sway of the elevator a subtle reminder of the night’s earlier chaos. The flickering lights from the cityscape outside danced across the glass, casting a kaleidoscope of colors on the walls.
Ethan’s gaze was fixed on the floor, the weight of the evening’s events still pressing heavily on his shoulders. His fingers brushed against yours, and you instinctively intertwined them, a silent gesture of solidarity and comfort.
“I’m really sorry about tonight,” Ethan said again, his voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t expect Harry to–”
You cut him off with a gentle squeeze of his hand. “It’s not your fault, Ethan. Harry’s always been like that. It’s just who he is.”
“He was being so… touchy.” he spat out, cheeks red.
It was almost endearing to see Ethan worked up like this, his usual calm and shy demeanor replaced with a rare display of frustration. You squeezed his hand again, trying to offer as much reassurance as you could.
“I know,” you said softly, your voice barely more than a murmur. “Harry’s always had a way of pushing buttons.”
Ethan let out a deep breath, his tension slowly dissipating. “I just… I didn’t expect him to be so–” He paused, searching for the right word. “–such a jerk. I thought maybe he’d changed, or at least that he’d be civil.”
You lifted your head to look at him, your eyes meeting his with a blend of sympathy and understanding. You ran your fingers over the dirty napkin on his hand, “Does it hurt?”
Ethan shook his head, a wry smile curling on his lips despite the sting of the glass shards embedded in his palm. “It’s more of a nuisance than anything else. It will be healed by the morning.”
You frowned, not entirely convinced by his casual dismissal. You took his hand in yours, the sharp edges of the glass catching the dim light from the streetlamp outside as you walked the street. The glass was small, but the way it glinted made you wince in sympathy.
“You need those taken out.”
Ethan’s eyes softened, a hint of vulnerability breaking through his tough exterior. “You don’t have to, you know. I can manage.”
“You’ve managed quite enough for today,” you countered firmly, steering him towards the nearest all-night pharmacy.
The inside of the store was quiet, filled with the faint scent of antiseptic and the hum of fluorescent lights. You guided Ethan to a small section of first-aid supplies, your fingers brushing over shelves stocked with bandages, antiseptic wipes, and tweezers.
He trailed behind you with a soft flush to his cheeks as the red tainted napkin in his hand got the attention of the workers. “Come,” you grabbed his free hand, pulling him to walk behind you as you paid.
As you approached the counter, the clerk offered a polite nod, his eyes flickering briefly to the red-stained napkin. You could feel Ethan’s discomfort radiating from him, a mix of embarrassment and pain that he tried to mask with a nonchalant attitude.
The clerk rang up the items – a small bottle of antiseptic, a set of tweezers, and a package of gauze – while you kept your gaze fixed on Ethan, reassuring him with a steady, unwavering look. His eyes met yours, and in that fleeting moment, you could see a hint of gratitude.
“You don’t have to do this,” Ethan said quietly as you finished paying.
You offered him a soft smile as you gathered the bag and headed towards the pharmacy’s exit. “I’m already here, aren’t I? Besides, someone needs to make sure you don’t end up with an infection.”
____________
“Ow!”
“Eth! If you move your hand every time I tweeze something out we’ll be here all night.” you scolded, the tweezers in your hand and Ethan’s palm up on your thigh, the apartment’s bathroom light making it easier to see the crystals.
Ethan winced as you delicately extracted another shard of glass from his palm, the bathroom light casting sharp shadows across his face. He tried to keep his hand steady, but the sharp pricks of pain made it hard for him to stay still.
“Sorry,” you said, your tone soft but firm. “Just a little longer.”
“Ow!” he whined again, pushing his hand away and reaching for the tweezers, “You’re doing it too quickly, just let me do it.”
You gave him a look, knowing just how much he hated blood and how easy it was for him to get freaked out by injuries most of the time – ironically, since he got injured very often because of his suited persona. You handed him the tweezers, an unimpressed look on your face as his hand shook, making it harder for him to catch the small piece of glass in his hand.
He slowly, very slowly, tried taking it out. He winced again. “See? Let me.” you said, moving closer to get the tweezers again. He took the chance to wrap his arm around your waist, breath tingling against your temple as you focused on his hand.
You felt the warmth of his breath on your skin, a subtle reminder of his presence that went beyond mere physical proximity. The closeness was comforting, even if his hand was a bit of a mess right now.
He hummed the tune of a movie you didn’t quite recognize, every now and then stopping the song to complain or make uncomfortable noises. Finally, all the glasses were out of his hand, you could see the healing powers starting to fix his skin, though the thought of it irked you out, the lessening pain in Ethan’s face made you relax.
“There we go,” you mumbled, wrapping the bandage around his hand to stop the bleeding and help speed up the spider-healing. Just as you were about to take a step back, the hand that held you close to him pushed you even closer, his head falling to your shoulder.
“Hm,” he nudged your arms, urging you to hug him back. With a chuckle, you followed suit.
You wrapped your arms around him, the embrace both reassuring and intimate. His body relaxed against yours, the tension that had plagued him during the ordeal slowly melting away. The soft, rhythmic rise and fall of his breathing was soothing, a silent acknowledgment of the comfort you provided.
The bathroom was quiet, save for the faint hum of the ventilation fan and the occasional drip of the used water from the sink, which added to the sense of calm that enveloped the room.
Ethan’s voice broke the silence, his tone softer now, filled with a hint of vulnerability. “You’re really something, you know that?”
You smiled, feeling the warmth of his breath on your neck as he spoke. You leaned to plant a soft kiss to his neck, moving up to cup his cheeks and pull him in for a slow kiss. Without another word, you pulled him out of the bathroom and to the couch, he curled up beside you.
ou led Ethan out of the bathroom and into the living room, his steps slow and deliberate as he nestled against you. The faint light from the street filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle glow that added to the tranquility of the room. The soft hum of the city outside was a distant murmur, almost like a lullaby accompanying the evening’s calm.
As you both settled onto the couch, Ethan curled up beside you, his head resting comfortably on the armrest while his injured hand was carefully propped up on a pillow. The gentle rise and fall of his chest was a soothing rhythm against your side. You could feel the warmth of his body, a comforting presence that seemed to anchor you both in the stillness of the night.
You gently smoothed his hair back, the gesture tender and reassuring. “Just relax,” you murmured softly, your fingers tracing soothing patterns on his scalp.
The moments stretched on, and you let yourself drift in the quiet intimacy. The world outside seemed to pause, giving way to this small, cocoon of calm and connection. You could feel Ethan’s steady breathing, the occasional twitch of his fingers as they adjusted to the comfort of the bandaged hand.
Eventually, Ethan’s eyes fluttered closed, his head nestled against your shoulder as he drifted into a peaceful slumber. The rhythm of his breathing was steady, a comforting reminder of his presence and the bond you shared. You remained still, your arms wrapped around him protectively, savoring the tranquility of the moment.

TENDER LIKE A BRUISE ─── ethan landry 𖦹
ೃ⁀➷ “A lover? Maybe. Something tender, anyway. But tender like a bruise.” — ‘The Winner’s Kiss’, Marie Rutkoski
Tumblr media
pairing. spiderman!ethan landry x reader
warnings. swearing, mention of blood + death, mildly suggestive
summary. its late at night when you get a knock at your window. first, its a familiar mask, then a really, really familiar face. (1) (2) (3) (4)
a/n.  i honestly just wanted an excuse to write about patching up this lovable dork. this is also the weirdest crossover ive ever made but hey! if the shoe fits, the shoe fits (ethan landry is 110% spiderman nerd coded). an early warning: this is sooo all over the place. i fr do not know where this is going or if i should make a part 2
Tumblr media
i.
You’re staring at your monitor, half-asleep and half-wishing your econ class got a bomb threat so you didn’t have to get assigned homework, when you hear a knock at your window.
It was four-am on a Thursday in the middle of March, so you were expecting a knock. It was probably Quinn, or maybe even Tara, knocking on your window to get into the flat because they lost their keys somewhere at the frat party and didn’t want to alarm Sam.
Having the room with the fire-escape window was a blessing and a curse. For one, the view was beautiful, and you could sneak out without any of your roommates knowing. On the other hand, however, any stranded friends of yours snuck back in through your window.
Well, whatever. You slammed your laptop shut on your desk, and walked to your window. In the journey, however, you paused.
The crime rate in New York had gone up terribly recently, and you had remembered that case just a few weeks ago about a man who broke in through a fire escape window…
You weighed your options: open the window, oh it’s just Annika, shoo her out of your room, continue Econ homework. Open the window, oh it’s a murderer! Die, don’t finish Econ homework.
You opened the window.
Then: “Spiderman?!” You all but screamed, taking a hesitant step back.
It was Spiderman, the guy in the spiderman suit, New York’s “friendly neighborhood Spiderman”, the hero who fought crime in Brooklynn and swung around Times Square, that Spiderman.
And he was here. On your fire escape, awkwardly shuffling (which reminded you of a certain dork who was at that Halloween frat party right about now), hands behind his back.
“Spiderman? What the— fuck, are you—?” You repeated, and you could practically hear his stumbling thoughts as he gestured incoherently to himself, arms flailing about.
“Hi?” He settled on, then groaned, lifting himself into your bedroom. You took another step back, tentatively eyeing the little league baseball bat you had in the corner of your bedroom, a keepsake from home.
Once more, the thoughts of those recent window-entry break-ins flashed in your head, and even though it was Spiderman, what if it wasn’t? What if it was just some weirdo freak in the costume, about to use your trust of the hero to their advantage?
Spiderman, solemnly, seemed to notice this hesitation in you. “I’m not— I’m not going to hurt you, I just…” Spiderman sighed, and then all at once and far too fast, he pulled his mask clean off.
Suddenly, a familiar head of curls were splayed out on an equally as familiar brown-eyed face.
“Landry?” You said in the same tone as before, except this time it was Ethan Landry, Quinn’s awkward, younger-by-3-minutes brother, who ended up rooming with Chad, your own friend from highschool, after Quinn moved in with you.
Your only conversation had been nods in Econ, handing him a drink at a party, asking if he’d seen Quinn, him asking if you’d seen Chad, and now… whatever this was.
“This” was Ethan Landry in the Spiderman suit — because he was Spiderman(!!!!), the biggest mind-fuck you’d had since you found out Sam’s bio-dad was a weirdo murdering loser rotting in jail with his oddly homoerotic, equally as murderous, bestfriend — politely closing your window and dusting himself off so as to not get your room dirty.
This was not the shock you were hoping for right before midterms.
Then, you saw how pale-faced and sweaty Landry was, a red-and-blue gloved hand pressed against his abdomen, slowly hunching further.
“Sorry— I,” He sucked in a deep breath, letting it out between his teeth, “I got cut, and I— your apartment was closer than Chad and I’s place, and I also couldn’t go there, because I lost my keys while I was swinging—“
“Hold on— Landry! Back up a moment!” You protested, interrupting his anxious rambling. “Let’s get you patched up first, okay? I won’t accept any of your answers until then.”
Quickly, you wrapped an arm around him, helping him limp over to your small, crowded apartment bathroom.
You situated the 6'0 giant you’d only referred to as “Landry” for the better half of the past six months onto the toilet, then rummaged through your bathroom closet, searching for the first-aid kit Quinn had used on her latest hook-up just last week after he bonked his head on her bed frame.
(That was hilarious and disgusting, having to sew stitches onto one of her hookups while she wore a police costume and him a bright prison suit. You were not going to pry, but crudely speaking, it was a shock to find out Quinn was… kinky.)
When you finally got it, you turned, having expected Landry to have pulled the top half of his suit off. Instead, he sat, head leaning against the tiled bathroom walls, cloaked hand still pressed firm against his wound.
“That thing’s got a zipper on it, doesn’t it?” You said, taking a peek at the backside of Landry’s suit.
He nodded.
“So?” You said, expectantly placing your hands on your hips. But Landry stayed still, as if something was holding him back.
“By gods, Landry, are you embarrassed?” You said, aghast. By the looks of his increasingly red face, you were right.
Extremely affronted at his ill-timed shyness, you swiftly found the zipper to his Spiderman suit and helped the boy peel off the top half.
“Jesus, Ethan, you’re practically bleeding to death. Stop being so shy, I can handle you of all people.” You whispered to him as you did so, and he let out a shaky breath.
(Not because of the wound, but rather how close you were, his real name on your whispering lips as you almost graced the side of his face, your hands undressing him. He felt like he was on fire.
Fuck, Ethan thought, then, immediately after, shook himself mentally of such thoughts.)
Then, with several beads of sweat dripping from Ethan’s forehead, a low groan coming from him, you saw just how bad his wound was.
It was a messy, leaking gash on the left of his lower stomach, blood staining his thin skin. Landry seemed entirely focussed on the pain, eyes squinted and body wincing with every labored breath.
So, you moved swiftly, opening up your bottle of rubbing alcohol and throwing the cap behind you, informing Ethan it was going to “hurt like the time Sam punched you square in the nose because she thought you were hooking up with Tara” (to be fair, that did hurt a lot — Ethan cried a little, after it, and you had to silently hand him tissues) before dousing his wound in the solution.
Ethan’s back immediately arched in pain, head thrown back, and you could hear him bite back a soft whimper. His now-bare hands grabbed at the closest thing he could — your sweater sleeve, which was apparently at the perfect height for his incredibly lanky, though shockingly well-built, arms to hold — squeezing down in pain.
“I’m sorry, truly,” you whispered, on your knees in front of him, as he was far too tall to perform this stitching up without doing so.
(You continued by knotting your needle and thread, ignoring the odd predicament you had found yourself in, on your knees in a cramped bathroom, so close you could feel Ethan’s warm breath on your neck. You swallowed, head fuzzy, then blinked rapidly, trying to get your thoughts back on track.)
If that had bothered him, you were more than worried at how he’d react to your poor stitching ability. You’d only ever fixed up a hole in your shirt, so any sewing knowledge you knew, you were going to apply to Ethan’s skin now.
“I’m gonna stitch it up now, okay?” You said, in a soft, dulcet tone, considering the pain he was going through.
Ethan nodded vehemently, probably more so interested in getting it all over with.
You made quick work of the operation, sewing his skin together, back and forth, back and forth. Your concentration drowned out any and all of your thoughts, except for a stuttered keen or bitten curse word from Ethan every now and then, that effectively shattered the mental wall you’d been building.
Finally, you unraveled the white roll of bandages sitting on the counter, and wrapped a thick dressing around his abdomen, crossing over his left shoulder to give it some stability.
(Your elbows had been propped up on either side of Ethan’s thighs, and you were so carefully focussed on wrapping his gash correctly that you hadn’t realized how close you were to his… well, him.
Ethan had, however, and gulped at how suggestive his view was, looking down and just seeing the crown of your head over his lap. So Ethan looked away, squeezing his eyes shut and desperately focussed on keeping something down.)
Finally, you finished, rubbed your sweaty palms on your thighs, and looked up at Ethan, who was leaning back, head on the wall. Your cheeks dusted pink, seeing how he stared at you through his long, brown lashes, slowly blinking, lips parted.
You coughed, looking away from the boy, and got up. “You okay to stand?”
Ethan blinked, then nodded, heaving himself up from the toilet seat. He limped across the hall to your bedroom, then sat on the chair sitting by your desk.
“You should sleep here tonight. I don’t think your sister will ever forgive me if I let you go to bed alone with a knife-wound.” You flashed him a smile. “But first: what the hell was that?”
Ethan bit his lip. “Surprise?”
You gave Ethan a look, settling on your bed across from him. “I thought you were at that halloween party, with Chad and Quinn?”
“Okay, fine. I was at that party, but I… kinda sort of stole a police’s walkie talkie, like, two years ago and I’ve been using it since to hear about any crime going on. There was a 10-31 — an active burglary,” he said, noting your confused face, “at a local bodega, so I told everyone I was going home, and left. They’d run into an alley by the time I got there, so I followed them, and things got a little… messy.”
You nodded, following the story carefully. “And when did… all of this start?” You gestured to him in the half done up Spiderman suit.
“Well,” Ethan averted your gaze, “When I was seventeen, I went with my dad to a crime scene during a stupid Bring-Your-Kid-to-work-day activity. The place was a real hole-in-the-wall illegal animal testing lab, and I was being dumb, touching things I shouldn’t have, geeking out over whatever latest smuggled in Oscorp tech they had blown up, when a spider bit me in the neck. After peeking through the case files, I found out it was a radioactive spider. The next few days after that I got sick, then got better, and one day after that I woke up and I could do crazy shit like climb my bedroom walls.”
You blinked, digesting the large threshold of information. Just as you were about to ask another question, Ethan let out a large, teary eyed yawn.
All at once he seemed so much more tired than you thought he’d been, all the pain he’d experienced showing clearly on his delicate features.
Your brows knit together. “…Okay, I think it's time you change out of those clothes, I order food, then you go to bed.”
Ethan agreed numbly, hunching over on the chair he was sitting on. Quickly, you began digging through your closet for clothes that might fit his muscular frame — a feature that surprised you as much as finding out he was Spiderman, considering you thought him to be a skinny and lanky tree.
After a moment, you pulled out two pieces. “It’s all I had that would fit you,” you said quietly, handing him a pair of pink Hello-Kitty pajama pants you bought in the wrong size, and a “I Survived My Trip To NYC” shirt Mindy gave you back in highschool. “Sorry.”
“No, I—“ Ethan fumbled awkwardly, taking the clothes from you, ears tinged red, “thanks. For everything.” He settled on, looking from his hands to your face.
You peered up at him, analyzing the boy-hero. His deep brown eyes, the freckles that danced across his cheeks, how his lips pursed, watching you look at him.
The air between the both of you had suddenly turned static, and you were so much more aware of how flush you were against one another.
Ethan’s gaze flitted from your eyes to your lips, trailing across your face almost unbearably slow.
But then you blinked, sobered, and stepped away from him. “I’m— gonna,” you caught your breath, “I’ll let you change.”
You quickly exited, leaving Ethan in the room alone.
(Ethan’s face burned, terribly red while he felt feverish just by the slight touch of your fingers on his own. How you had stared at him, your eyes coursing over his entire being—
There had been something there, but Ethan could not find it in himself to pry.)

thinking about spider-man ethan landry who can hear your heartbeat speed up when he gets closer or when you’re around him …
he really denies that it has to do with him at first—he thinks it might be because you have a crush on somebody else in the group due to his time with you only being in a group setting
you dont act differently around him, you dont stumble around your words like he does around you, so why would you have a crush on him? the signs arent there
he was so, so wrong. he finds out soon enough when youre supposed to meet with chad and tara for a “group thing” and you dont know he was also invited.
you get there, and chad and tara are nowhere to be seen—only ethan is there. you decide to hang out with each other anyway, and as you’re both standing, he hears your heartbeat get faster when he takes a step closer.
he is dumbfounded. throughout the night, he tests the waters by putting a hand on your arm when youre in a crowd, under the guise of not losing you, and your heartbeat gets even quicker. he stays close to you, watching for any signs you’re uncomfortable, but he sees you genuinely smile at him and only him.
by the end of the night, hes trying to muster up the courage to ask you if you like him, but he doesnt want to sound childish (after all, youre not in high school anymore, who says “like”??), but much to his surprise—
you kiss him.
when he asks what that was for, you tell him that you couldnt wait any longer. turns out youve been paying attention to how much he’s been looking out for you.
you both get a text from chad and tara. ethan gets one from chad, you get one from tara.
it says the same thing: how was your date?

It had been a week since the kiss and you could tell Ethan was actively avoiding you. If he saw you walking down the hallway he would turn around and go the opposite way, if you were in the same class he’d sit somewhere else and rush out of class before you could come up to him, even during group hangouts he wouldn’t go if you were going!
You didn’t know why, I mean you assumed it was because of the kiss but you thought you both liked each other. In all honesty it made you sad, because you really liked Ethan. You tried talking to Chad about it and he said Ethan had seemed more anxious than usual. None of it made sense but you were determined to find an answer.
Ethan looked in the mirror, he had his suit on and his mask in hand. He was going on patrol tonight which usually helped him calm his nerves. It calmed his nerves with whatever was happening to Ethan Landry at least. Spider-Man had a carefree life, a life filled with fighting criminals and helping the citizens of New York City. Maybe Ethan did use Spider-Man as an escape but there was nothing wrong with that, right?
He started to put his mask on but only made it halfway on his face before a knock on the door startled him. “One second!” He yelled as he tore the mask off his face and rushed to get a jacket and sweatpants on. The knocking happened again slightly louder this time. “Yeah, I hear you! Just one minute!” He yelled again as he jumped into his pants and ran towards the door.
He swung it open quickly, “Chad, did you forget your key again?” But he froze when he saw you standing there. You were in your pajama pants and an oversized shirt that looked adorable on you but Ethan quickly shook those thoughts away. “May I come in?” You asked, your voice was quiet. The only time he heard your voice that quiet was the night of the kiss. One part of Ethan wanted to shake his head and close the door but the other part was telling him to let you in.
That part obviously won.
He nodded and stepped back so you could enter. You muttered a small thank you and walked inside. It was a small and cozy dorm. You could easily tell which side was Ethan’s and which side was Chads. The trophies and the iconic varsity football jacket was on Chads side while Ethan’s side was decorated with one movie poster and a few books on his shelf. Nothing much. “Nice dorm,” you said breaking the uncomfortable silence.
“Thanks,” he mumbled while throwing some stray clothes into the laundry hamper. “So, what are you doing here?” He asked. He was slightly scared of the answer. “I think you know why,” you sat on his bed, “You’ve been avoiding me, Ethan.” He closed his eyes and sighed, he didn’t want to have this conversation with you. He didn’t even think he had a valid reason for why he was doing this. He faced you and shrugged. He just shrugged. You scoffed at him and shook your head.
“I really like you, you know?” Ethan looked away from you and you continued, “And I kinda thought you liked me too,” You said letting out a breathy laugh. He looked at you again and looked at the tears running down your face. “I’m sorry.” That was all he said. “You’re sorry?” You questioned. “You’re sorry? You’re not even going to give me an answer for why you’ve been acting so weird?”
He stayed silent and you shook your head as you got up. You didn’t know what to think or how to feel so leaving seemed easier. “Forget it, Ethan.” You were about to open the door to leave when you felt something on your back suddenly pulling you back towards him. “Wh-” you were cut off by Ethan lips on yours and he slightly smirked at your muffled noise. You pulled back first and looked at him with wide eyes and an open mouth.
“I don’t understand.”
“I used my web,” he giggled and you rolled your eyes trying not to smile, “No, I mean I don’t understand why you kissed me.”
He pressed his forehead to yours and spoke softly, “Because I like you, I really like you. I was just scared of losing you” You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion and he explained further. “I was scared if we were anything more than friends you’d get hurt. There’s a lot of super villains out there and there’s a lot of people who could hurt you to try and hurt me.”
He paused and interlocked your hand with his, “And I really really can’t loose you.” You raised your head up to look at him properly and felt tears sting your eyes again.
“Why didn’t you just tell me?”
He chuckled, “I guess cause I’m an idiot.” There was a beat of silence before Ethan spoke again, “Please forgive me, y/n. I really didn’t want to hurt you, I like you so much and you have no idea what that kiss meant to me-” This time you cut him off with a kiss and you pressed your hands to either side of his face. You pulled away slightly, “You talk too much, Spider.”
You brought your lips back to his and he smirked. He wrapped his hands around your waist, pulling you impossibly closer to him. You both stayed like that for a moment before breaking the kiss for air. The pair of you stood there in each others embrace with dumb smiles on your faces. It was nice.
“I really am sorry,” he said looking at you with his big puppy dogs eyes. “Forgive me?”
“You know I can’t stay mad at you.”
He grinned and leaned in to share another kiss with you before you put a finger to his lips stopping him, “But you are an idiot so you’ll get to kiss me again when you take me out on a proper date.” He rolled his eyes playfully and nodded, “Deal.” He stuck his hand out and you removed your finger from his lips and shook his hand, “Deal. Now Goodnight, Landry.” You kissed his cheek and headed out the door.
Once you left he sat on his bed dumbfounded.
He fucked up once but now that he was forgiven there was no way he’d ever let you go again.

that’s the thing (e.l)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ACCIDENTALLY POSTED THE DRAFT AND LOST THE ASK 😭😭😭 (but here u go anon if u find this 🙏)
contains: swearing, fluff, smut 18+ (oral, fingering, slight overstimulation)
spiderman!ethan landry x fem!reader
based off you’re here that’s the thing by beabadoobee 🙏
Ethan definitely screwed up.
He swings across the city in tight spandex. “Fuck, fuck, fuck!” Ethan exclaimed, speedily typing on his phone, but you wouldn’t respond.
Being the friendly neighborhood Spiderman, he always had priorities—but that didn’t stop him from spending time with you. Knowing this, you forgave him every time he’d miss something.
Well, that jinxed it. On the lookout, he had completely forgotten about your date, Ethan—being the dork with the heart of gold, thought this would be the last straw for you.
Ethan often thought about this every time he’d be swinging around New York just to make it up to you. One reason why he’d always make it up to you is because he felt like he should, or must.
The second reason why is because it always ends in something wonderful—whether it’s him sleeping over, or the other way around, or something else that would have the boy completely whipped.
Then he spotted you, wearing his jacket you ‘forgot’ to return. His whole world seemed to stop—that was until he remembered the fact that he left you waiting.
A bunch of people backed away when Ethan took you with him. “It’s the spider dude!” Someone near you exclaimed.
“What? Oh my god!” You exclaim, swiftly sliding your hands around his neck. “I am so SO sorry that I left you waiting, okay? I was on the lookout, I completely forgot about our date, I’m really sorry, I REALLY AM!” He exclaimed, talking fast, then you pointed at a pole that was about to hit his head.
Once Ethan was about to dodge it, it hits the top of his head instead. His grip tightened till he swinged back to your dorm—though weakly.
He yanks his mask off and leans back on your bed.
“Less talking, more swinging.” You sigh, grabbing the sides of his face—then you kissed him, your lips moving in sync. He could taste the fruity lipgloss you had put on. Ethan's eyes widened in surprise as you pulled away. He blinked a few times, trying to process the unexpected turn of events.
Then a smile was on his face, pulling you back. Deepening the kiss.
“Being a superhero’s girlfriend isn’t that hard,” You frown, then he kisses more again before you continue, “But seriously, you have to change out of this shit.” Ethan kept a hand on your waist, “Actions speak louder than words, right?”
You jump as Ethan quickly jumps under your bed, your roommate bursting in. “Hey, I’ll be leaving you alone here for a while since I’ve got somewhere to go.” You nod, then they wave, “See ya.” And leave.
Quickly falling on your bed as Ethan uses his webs to lock the door, “This is really cute,” He holds up your diary, the drawing of Spider-Man you made on a sticky note during a lecture. “Can I keep it?”
“Change first.” He rolled his eyes at your command.
He quickly changed into his normal clothes after slipping off the spandex. “Dammit,” He exclaimed as he checked his backpack for flowers he was gonna give you—there were flowers, but only a few, the petals flying away instantly.
Walking into the living room, Ethan uses his webs to snatch the remote from your hands, “We’re watching a movie, because I have to make it up to you,” Then handing you the somewhat ruined bouquet of flowers. “Eth, you shouldn’t have.” You teased then grabbed his camera from the table.
“Try and take a picture of me holding these, that’s how you can make it up to me.” Ethan takes the camera from you then more words come from your mouth, “Although you’re already here, that’s how you can make it up to me.”
The camera flashes in your face as you cover the lower half of your face with the flowers—then laying down on the couch with Ethan as the movie starts playing.
“You know,” says Ethan, “I’m really glad I forgot about our date today,” You frown, then he chuckles, “It led to this and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
You both chuckle at his words then you shower his face with kisses. Ethan quickly pulled you down to kiss his lips. The movie was long forgotten soon after that.
His lips crashed into yours once again, then his nails dig in your thighs as you straddle him.
“Maybe because you knew it would lead to this,” You mumble against his lips, his other hand running down your spine like an instrument. Ethan broke the kiss to move down to your jawline—then your neck.
His hands tapping on your lower back as you pulled away. “You’re a sneaky one.” You pressed a kiss to the tip of his nose, then Ethan let out a breathy laugh, “I’m Spiderman, of course I’m sneaky.”
“But I love Ethan Landry more.” Right after Ethan takes quite a few minutes to process your words, he pulls you in by your waist to kiss you once again.
You wrap your arms around his neck as his fingers dig into your hips.
He mumbles against your lips, “I want you,” He starts to smoothly put a little tongue in the kiss, then when your lips part even more for permission, it slips in. You hum against his lips as Ethan slowly grinds into you.
You pull away and smile, he drags his thumb over your bottom lip, you try to kiss him again, but he keeps a hand on your chest to stop you. “Can I go down on you?” The question makes your eyes widen as you turn beet red. Ethan’s stupid puppy eyes made you nod, and the smirk felt good to kiss off.
His arms placed you back on the couch, the needy boy got on his knees. Ethan gives you a deep kiss, then he moves down your jaw, he leaves a mark on your collarbone.
It goes from your chest, to your belly, and he reaches your clothed core. Ethan looks up at you and you lick your lips.
The boy pulls down your panties and starts with kissing your inner thighs. The sneaky little thing was always a tease, it pained you slightly but you know you love him.
Ethan presses a wet kiss to your left thigh, sucking on it. His breath fans over your core and you shudder.
He presses a kiss to your clit, then makes his way down to your entrance—licking up then burying his face in between your thighs. Your back arched at the pleasure.
In the early stages of your relationship, you had always told him what felt good, and he made it feel even better.
Your legs threaten to lock around his head, but his big hands hold your hips down. You were basically squirming, and he was only trying to drive himself away from the spot you wanted him to stay on.
Ethan harshly sucks on your clit, circling it with his tongue. You feel like you’re close, VERY close. Without warning, his middle finger enters you and that makes you lift your head up and whine in pleasure, you could feel him smile against your core.
“God, don’t stop.” You say breathlessly, and while muffled, you could still hear him, “I won’t,” He pulls away with a pop, “Trust me.” He dives right back in as soon as he finishes.
When his ring finger enters, your body felt limp and like everything slowed down for a minute.
The hot feeling down your stomach was heating up.
When his nose bumped into your clit, along with his ring finger entering the chaos, that feeling hit it’s peak.
Though Ethan didn’t stop, he kept lapping up your juices—it felt so overwhelming. Your hips were basically jolting up out of instinct.
You shuddered under his touch, he reaches up for your hand and laces his fingers with yours.
When Ethan finally pulled away, he crawled back on top of you and pushed away a stray strand of hair. He didn’t say anything, he just smiled. You know you’d forgive him for missing a date either way, the only way he could make it up to you is just being there.
He presses a soft kiss to your lips, then he mumbles in between kisses, “I’m not done yet,” Your eyes blink open as he pulls away, the taste of yourself lingering on your tongue. “I wonder how people would feel if they find out their friendly neighborhood Spiderman was a pro at not only superhero-ing, but this.” says Ethan.
You chuckle and pull him back in for another, when he breaks the contact he takes the square foil out of his pocket and smirks at you, then places it on the table next to you both. He tries to kiss you again
You grab it from the table, “I’m not on the pill, babe,” You assure him, he shrugs then takes it from your hand. He sticks the tip of his tongue out when he struggles to open it. You laugh at Ethan, and open it yourself. “I’ll be your walking stick tomorrow,” he whispers to your ear.
You were in for a long night.

The darkness seemed to follow you your whole life. Even after moving from Woodsboro that darkness followed you to New York. Standing in an old abandoned theater with Sam and Tara you three look in front of you as Baliey stood with Quinn and Ethan on his side. your cheeks soaked with tears as you saw the boy you love holding a knife, the ghostface mask in his hand and his body covered in the long robe.
Your head shook, this isn't real. "and my name isn't Ethan Landry isn't that right dad?" you looked at him as he had a dark smirk his brown eyes locked in on you.
"Dad?" Tara questioned she had tears in her eyes just like you as she looked at Quinn. They started to circle you three, Bailey went after Sam as she ran past the stage, Quinn ran after Tara as she made a run for the concession. Which left Ethan right in front of you.
Stumbling back you tripped on a wire falling back. "god you look so helpless, that makes this even more fun" he hovered over you as your back into the stage. Screamed and crashes echoed through building.
"What's wrong with you, this isn't right" your voice was shaky as you looked up at him. his curls sticking to his forehead some blood on his cheek as he spoke.
"See that's where you are wrong, this is good. This is the best thing I've ever done," he paused running the knife up your arm "next to sleeping with you, which was soo good" he let out a soft moan. "but killing you will feel better" his eyes were dark and hungry.
at your finger tips you felt a pipe and quickly grabbed it swinging it at his head. "fuck, you bitch" he stumbled back holding his head which gave you a chance to get up and run. you looked back quickly as you ran seeing him chasing you.
"get back here you bitch" he ran through the building holding the knife tightly with a different type of desire in his eyes. Finding some stairs you ran up them Ethan right on your tail.
"Where do you think you're going?" his voice hoarse and cold "I'm not even close to being done" he grabbed your ankle pulling you down the stairs making you hit your head. Screaming out you kicked at him making him tumble down. Grabbing your head you felt the warmth of blood on your temple and fingertips, the crimson color shining bright.
you looked down seeing him start to get up. In a panic you run up the stairs and he him running after you. a small room came up on your right so you ran in closing the door behind you. "oh honey where are you?" ethan's voice rang out. you could hear the anger in his voice. "don't think I'd let you slip out that easily" you heard him pulling old tarps down. your hand covered your mouth to stop you from screaming.
he was getting close the heavy footprints sounding louder. "oh come on you aren't gonna run?" he stood in the center of the room. Old trash all around, you watched him from an old closet. he looked around a proud smirk of his face. "what don't want me anymore? thought you said you'd love me no matter what baby"
you tried to make a run for it but didn't get far. he saw you and grabbed your leg spinning you around your chest to chest with him looking up seeing the brown eyes you once loved filled with nothing but darkness. he smirked and leaned down to your ear, "come on I'll say it again but in a different way....let me hear you scream" he raised is arm that held the knife. You were thrashing in his other begging him not to and in the next second his arm came down a loud gasp and scream ripped from your throat.
All he could do was laugh and repeat his action once more "there it is baby" he twisted the knife and pulled up in your back making you almost faint. "Don't say I never gave you anything" he whispered in your ear.
he dropped you to the ground and smirked seeing you try to move away. his foot came up and pushed down on the side the wound was on. your scream echoed through the room. "don't get me wrong baby....i did love you...just not the reasons you think" he pressed harder and your mind started to spin.
Ethan heard his sister screaming for him. with one last look he wiped your blood off his blade and left you there in the empty room. your mind fuzzy and slowly going black. the last thing you saw was the broken ceiling of the theater and the last twisted thought you had was you still loved Ethan.

"Bug boy?" he repeated the nickname you'd just given him, the white eyes on his mask mimicking his surprised expression. "I'm more of an arachnid."
You hummed, smirking at him before looking forward to the streetlights, your legs kicking back and forth from the edge of the building. "Arachnid, huh?" you responded playfully, raising an eyebrow. "Well, Mr. Arachnid," you corrected.
You tapped your fingers on the rooftop, a mischievous glint in your eyes. "I used to have a friend who owned a pet spider."
His masked face turned to you, intrigue evident even without seeing his real expression. "Oh, really?" he replied, genuinely interested.
You chuckled. "Yeah. She named it Leggy. It was this big, hairy tarantula that she would let crawl all over her arms and everything. She used to say that Leggy had more personality than most people she knew."
The masked hero tilted his head slightly, a small smile forming beneath his mask. "She insisted that I held it once, and I almost cried," you continued, and he snorted a laugh, making the voice modifier glitch for a second. "Hey, don't laugh," you retorted, lightly punching his arm. "It was huge and hairy, okay? Not exactly my cup of tea. But my friend loved that spider like it was her own child."
"Leggy, huh? Maybe I should change my name to that," he shook his head. "Spider-Man sounds kind of lame now." You laughed, and he turned to stare at you for a beat.
"Nah, Spider-Man has a nice ring to it. Plus, it's become pretty iconic. Leggy might give people the wrong idea," you said, teasingly nudging him with your elbow.
He chuckled, the sound muffled by his mask. "Yeah, you're probably right. Can you imagine the headlines? 'Leggy spins a web of justice!' It doesn't have the same impact."
Spider-Man nodded thoughtfully, his eyes pretending to focus on something in the distance the second you turned to look at him, catching him staring. A gentle breeze swept across the rooftop, rustling your hair as you both sat in companionable silence.
"How'd you learn how to swing with those?" you asked, pointing at his wrists. Ethan raised his eyebrows from under the mask in surprise at your interest. "By falling, a lot."
"I can picture that," you said, grinning. The hero moved a hand to his heart, feigning hurt. "Ouch."
You smirked, leaning closer to him. "Don't worry, Mr. Arachnid. I'm sure you've mastered the art of falling gracefully by now," you replied with a playful wink.
Ethan faked a laugh. "You're hilarious."
"Oh, I try my best," you said, playfully batting your eyelashes. "But seriously, swinging through the city like you do must be exhilarating. I can only imagine the adrenaline rush you get."
"It's definitely something else," Ethan replied, smirking once he felt the idea pop into his head. "So… wanna try it?" You widened your eyes at that, wanting to take back your words immediately. "Uh, no. My mom must be waiting for me inside."
"It's 4 a.m."
"Still. She could come into my room and not find me there; she'd freak." Ethan tilted his head, and the mask's bug eyes narrowed as he held back a laugh. He nodded, knowing fully well you were lying through your teeth, and he stood up, offering his hand to help.
Once you were on your feet, ready to say your goodbyes, you felt the gloved hands reach for your waist, pulling you towards the masked boy. You thought he was going to kiss you, just for a second, and then Ethan stretched one of his arms out and leaned down to quickly whisper a "Hold on tight" before a web shot out of the gadget on his wrist, making you yelp.
"No, no, no," you exclaimed as you felt the wind hit your face. You were swinging with Spider-Man, and you were hating it. "Open your eyes, come on!" he said, noticing that you had forced them shut the second your feet were lifted off the ground. "I hate you, I hate you."
"Come on, Y/N! You can't even see where we're swinging!"
"God, this is horrible." The hand that was holding onto his neck tightened, and you uncovered your eyes to wrap another arm around him, trying to steady yourself.
He chuckled, the thrill of the moment evident in his voice. "You'll thank me later, I promise! Besides, you're doing great! Look, you're a natural swinger already!"
"I don't care!" you yelled back, trying to ignore the adrenaline coursing through you. "Just get me back to that rooftop! I'm not cut out for this superhero stuff."
"Don't worry, I got you," Ethan assured, adjusting his web-swinging trajectory to head back to the rooftop you both came from. The city lights below looked like a blur as you swung through the night sky.
As you finally landed back on the rooftop, you staggered a bit, your legs feeling like jelly. Spider-Man steadied you, his grip reassuring. "See, that wasn't so bad, was it?" he said, a teasing tone still present in his voice.
"You're insane, you know that?" you replied, trying to catch your breath. "I hated that."
"You would've loved it if you'd kept your eyes open!"
"Yeah, well, I'd be perfectly content experiencing the city from ground level, thank you very much," you replied, still trying to steady your racing heart with a hand on your chest. Ethan panted as well, hands on his hips as he smiled widely under his mask.
Girls didn't really look at Ethan. He knew he wasn't an ugly boy, and Chad kept reminding him that he was a treat to the eye, but he was incredibly awful at flirting or talking, or something so small such as being near girls. Seeing so many people crushing on Spider-Man gave him the confidence boost he needed; he liked the attention. Whenever he saw himself on the news, he'd sneakily turn up the volume to hear what people said about him, and whenever Chad had a fanboy moment about the masked spider-hero, he'd have to hide his smile.
Ethan's thoughts swirled as he watched you catch your breath, completely unaware of his internal dilemma. The excitement of swinging through the city with you, even if you were initially terrified, had been an unexpected rush for him. But now, as he saw you standing there, a mixture of annoyance and amusement in your eyes, he couldn't help but wish he had met you under different circumstances.
He wondered if you'd like Ethan Landry as much as Spider-Man, if you'd also spend your nights chatting on your rooftop with him if you had met him with his mask off.
"Earth to Leggy," you snapped your fingers in front of the mask's eyes. You saw how his face scrunched up, mentally cursing himself for being caught staring, and you felt your body heat up to your ears at
a shyer version of the hero. "Leggy?" he asked.
"You're right; Bug boy sounds way better."
Ethan tilted his head a little bit, trying to get a good look at you as the city lights hit your face just enough for him to see every detail. "Oh, you're gone again," you said, noticing him zoning off.
"Sorry, I'm keeping you up. You should go rest," you immediately added, taking a step back. "N-no, it's okay," Ethan stammered, feeling flustered by the way you caught him daydreaming.
"I mean, I'm used to being up late, you know, patrolling the city and all. Sleep isn't a big deal for me," he tried to play it cool, but his nerves were getting the best of him. The hands that had been resting on his hips were now awkwardly crossed over his chest.
You didn't really believe him; to you, he was just tired. Him daydreaming about being with you was the last of your thoughts; he was Spider-Man, after all.
"Okay," you whispered once he took two steps closer to where you stood. You felt your breath get caught in your throat, his scent taking over you. "Uhm…" you tried to think of ways to keep the conversation going, your mind going suddenly blank because of him.
"I… I held Leggy once."
"You've said," his voice sounded huskier as he stared down at you through his mask. You felt kind of silly, staring at a red mask full of web patterns and wide, white eyes. You wished he'd take it off, just to see who was the boy you'd been pining over for months, to see him just once. "Yeah… veeery hairy spider," you continued.
He nodded, and reached one of his hands up to your waist, just testing the waters. Your pajama shirt rode up slightly because of the texture of his glove, and you shivered at his hand touching your skin, even if it was covered by that annoying suit. Ethan stared down at his hand, pondering if he should rip out the cloth just to actually feel your skin.
When you didn't make a move to separate from him, he took a deep breath and, with his free hand, he pulled his mask up. Not all the way, you could only see his nose and his mouth, and a few curly hairs that stuck out from the back of his head and from under his ears. Ethan bit his bottom lip, contemplating showing you his whole face, but he wasn't ready. Not yet.
So he dropped the hand down to yours, linking your fingers together as you stared at every feature of his face available to you. He had a button nose, a few freckles near it, and you were certain that the mask still hid many more. His lips were chapped, like he'd been biting on them for a while, the bits of hair you could see seemed very healthy, and you felt like a freak for wondering what shampoo he used, if it smelled like him.
Your breath got heavier, just by looking at him. And Ethan finally let go of his own lip, parting them slightly. You moved your hand to his wrist, holding yourself up while you got on your tiptoes. You were close, so close, and you tightened your hold on his arm.
Ethan yelped when the web-shooter shot a tissue up to the yellow construction crane that towered over your building, making him shoot up along with it. You stared up at him, cheeks hot in embarrassment.
"Oh, God. I'm so sorry," your voice cracked just a bit in shame as Ethan struggled to untie the webs that had swept him up. "It's fine!" he called out, finally dropping down to you. Upside down, one hand holding onto the string, along with his legs, and his free one doing a thumbs up. Well, a thumbs down from your point of view.
When Ethan realized, he flipped it around, and you smiled. He finally cracked into a grin, and you felt like your air was knocked away, taken back by his beautiful smile. He was gorgeous, the small part of his face you could actually see was gorgeous.
"C'mere," he said, reaching his free hand out to your arm, pulling you in so your face was met with his, finally at the same height, even if he was upside down. "The blood will rush to your head if you stay like this for long," you said nervously, feeling kind of shaky.
He shrugged. "Eh, Bug boy can handle it."
"Oh, is that your superhero excuse for everything now?" you teased, trying to lighten the tension between you two. Ethan chuckled softly, and you noticed his cheeks tinting slightly, even under the mask.
"Maybe," he replied playfully. Before you could think of a response, he reached for your face, awkwardly cradling it with only one hand and pulling you closer. You stumbled two small steps forward until your nose brushed against his. And he licked his lips before giving you another toothy grin which you were sure would knock you off your feet if you weren't so focused on imagining how he was going to kiss you, instead.
You opened your mouth, ready to say whatever nonsense was going through your head, but he stopped you by pressing a gentle kiss on your lips, pulling away and tilting his head to get a better angle. He let out a warm breath into your mouth as he relaxed into the kiss.
Afraid of him falling, you held his arm with your hand, your other one going to the side of his face to push his lips even closer to yours. He chuckled against your mouth, making you smile as well. Ethan's arm was growing tired, and his kisses started to get more sloppy and wet as he pushed himself closer to you, almost snapping the web in half by the pressure.
You pulled back, a small string of saliva separating you and Ethan as he grinned. His mask's eyes narrowing, showing you just how his smile covered his whole face. "You sure know how to make a girl feel special," you said, playfully wiping the saliva from your lips with the back of your hand.
"Sorry about that," Ethan said, still grinning. "I guess I got carried away."
You couldn't help but giggle at his adorable and slightly awkward response. "No worries, Bug boy," you teased, poking his chest playfully. "I think you've still got some superhero etiquette to learn."
"Oh, I'll make sure to work on my superhero kissing skills," he replied, feigning seriousness as he put a hand to his heart before gracefully dropping on his feet.
"Good to know," you chuckled. He licked the inside of his cheek, cheekily smiling at you as you teased him. He took one step closer and wrapped his arm around your waist, giving you one more wet kiss on the lips and then moving to your cheek before pulling his mask down fully. "Sorry," he mumbled.
But the way you stared up at him with a smile made him put the cloth up again, pecking your lips four times before stepping back. "Okay. I'm done," he promised, and you chuckled as he tightened his hands into fists, clearly struggling not to touch you again.
You couldn't help but laugh at Ethan's adorable struggle to control himself.

(3) TENDER LIKE A BRUISE ─── ethan landry 𖦹
ೃ⁀➷ “Let me hold your tenderness for a moment, Forgetting all pains that the tenderness has caused….” — Luffina Lourduraj
Tumblr media
pairing. spiderman!ethan landry x reader
warnings. heavy swearing, mention of blood+death, alcohol
summary. ethan calls during a patrol, frantic, and you have no choice but to find and save him. (1) (2) (3) (4)
a/n. another bit of the spiderman!ethan landry universe. i'm being pretty carefree about the timeline atm, so basically you and ethan have been fake-dating for a few months already. also, do tell if the relationship progression is too fast or too slow!
Tumblr media
iii.
Your fake-dating label has stuck, following you everywhere.
From having an awkward dinner with Ethan’s parents (which would have been one with his entire family, but Quinn could not keep a straight face and had to leave), having double-dates with Annika and Mindy, Ethan having to ward off weirdos hitting on you at parties (which, was actually rather welcome), and the like.
Sometimes, entirely to keep your cover straight, you and Ethan have to engage in some… physical contact. Mostly, it’s hand holding, or wiping something off his cheek, him tucking your hair back behind your ear, fixing his shirt collar, him tying your shoes — all the little intimate things that make your fake relationship seem so much more real.
It’s kind of sweet, actually, how in-tune you guys are becoming with each other. Like, Ethan knows how you like your coffee, and you know what shirts he likes to keep at your place more than the others. You can trust the boy to pick an amazing place to order food from, and he can trust you to wash his Spidersuit like no-one else. (Seriously, he is shocked at how you can clean it in forty minutes and he can spend four hours in his sink without doing much at all.)
However, once, you and Ethan had to kiss. Well, “kiss”. It was drunk couple stuff, trying to fly under everyone's radar.
Your friends were beginning to think it was a little odd you had never done anything while drunk together, because everyone did. Sure, you two could be very private considering PDA, but everyone saw how sweet you were in front of others, so it was getting suspicious.
To void these pesky suspicions, during a low-key drunk night between friends at Chad and Ethans place, you downed a full shot of gin, let it burn in your throat, and pulled yourself onto the equally drunk Ethan.
You had climbed atop his lap, his fatigued head thrown back against the leather couch. Your hands graced the sides of his face, and through your alcohol stained lips you whispered close in Ethan’s ear.
“I’m going to kiss you, Ethan. Fake, though,” You said simply, your mind addled with that familiar alcohol fog.
You waited for his familiar hum of acknowledgment, the one he voiced when he was brushing his teeth, or drinking something, all his little sounds you’d grown to know.
When he did, you leaned your head at just the right angle that to everyone, it looked like you were going to town on Ethan, when in reality you were pecking the side of his lip.
Your hands had carded through Ethan’s soft, curly locks, tugging slightly and repositioning yourself on his lap, his own hands settling nervously on your waist. You moved onto hovering around his neck, sending shivers down his spine with your hot breath on his skin.
Ethan could taste the citrus stains you left on the side of his mouth, and he was beginning to feel feverish. His entire body was incredibly warm, either from the alcohol, or how close you were to him now.
He gulped, watching you on his lap, pretending to do everything he had exactly zero experience in. You - this, made him so incredibly nervous, he was losing his mind over your touch.
And as soon as it started, it was over, and you pulled yourself off the flustered boy. Chad whistled at the intensity of the action, a “proud dad” moment of sorts.
Ignoring it, your hands itched towards another shot of alcohol. Through the corner of your eye, you saw Ethan, breathing heavily, eyes coursing over you.
His gaze, low and deep, made your heart skip a tender beat, beginning to thump louder in your ears—
You downed another shot, and let it wash those thoughts away. Perhaps it is denial, or perhaps you don’t want to lose him.
(Somewhere deep in you, you’re terrified of losing him. Literally and figuratively, you could lose Ethan in so many ways it's beginning to hurt.
One of those ways comes far too soon for your comfort.)
-
It’s Halloween.
You’re stuck in someone's house, and a drunk girl you don’t know the name of is regaling you on her outfit choices for the night.
Quinn and Mindy are fighting over who's the better superhero, Spiderman or Iron-Man (and when Quinn heatedly declares Spiderman is some friendless, familyless freak, you snort), Tara and Chad are… doing whatever their newly blossomed situationship requires to make even more tense, and Annika is passed out on Mindy’s shoulder.
Ethan is on patrol tonight, after he left you alone in the middle of the party. Apparently, it had something to do with candy and costumes making criminals more “devious” (whatever that meant).
Sometimes, you really wish trick-or-treating wasn’t just for kids.
You slip away from the drunk girl, whose friend group has since found her, and sneak into the very same bathroom Ethan had jumped out of earlier. In the mirror, you finnicked with the costume you were wearing.
“I couldn’t exactly find anything similar, so I made it myself.” Ethan had said a few hours ago, holding up the costume. It was an odd black-and-white version of his Spidersuit, with a white hood and pink underarms.
“It’s made of a mix of spandex and a flexible carbon-fiber I stole from the evidence locker at the NYPD - the same stuff as my suit. And, I know, not morally great, but whatever, I’ll make up for it by catching the criminals who owned that stuff.” Ethan continued, stretching the fabric.
You raised a brow, taking the slim piece of fabric off his hands. “And why exactly do I have to be some Spiderman dupe tonight?”
Ethan scratched his cheek, gaze veering from yours.  “If I’m wearing this, you’ve gotta wear that. To keep the cover, obviously.”
You two were sitting on your bed, Ethan already decked out in his own well made Spiderman “costume”. Everyone else was dressed, too, just waiting for you to finish.
“So,” You leaned in closer to Ethan, “this is just a matching couple costume… for the cover.”
Ethan nodded rapidly, still avoiding your eyes.
You surveyed him for a moment: his brown eyes were coursing across the whole room, on anything except you, lips bitten between his teeth, hair askew, slight blush blazing across his face.
Something about that look of his just got to you, and the sound of the blood rushing to your face was positively deafening.
You pulled back, trying to ease your stuttering heart. “Isn’t this a bad idea? Wearing the suit and all, aren’t you scared of someone finding out?”
“I think it’s ironic.” Ethan said under his breath, a small smile gracing his face. “And it’s the opposite. If I pretend to be some superfan, people won’t think I’m him.”
You puffed up your cheeks, blowing the air out. “Okay, fine. I’ll wear your couples costume. Just don’t, and I mean it, Ethan, do not leave me alone at the party to go on patrol.”
“[Name]. You know I can’t promise you anything, I mean, what if there's a dog or something getting stolen out of an apartment—“
Without thinking, you stopped his rambling by pulling him close to you, hands gripping lightly at his arms. The two of you held still for a moment, staring deep into eachothers eyes.
You would have been ready to say anything, but the heartfelt words you had thought of, the feelings you knew were burning in your heart, about to burst at any moment, died in the sudden hesitance you felt from Ethan.
Unknowingly, your face contorted into one of hurt. “I know. I know, I’m sorry, I - I know that's selfish of me to ask, I just…” You let go of him, “there will never be enough time in the world for you to be both Ethan and Spiderman. Which one - which life, relationships -  do you value more?” you turned away, whispering under your breath.
And if Ethan had heard you, he didn’t say anything. Tension settled in the room, with a terribly miserable air of regret.
Suddenly, Mindy had called out from the living room that you’d all be late to the party if you didn’t hurry up. Ethan exited your room quietly, and you didn’t see him look back at your door with so much guilt it was choking him.
Remembering that bitter start to the night, you sighed, patting down your spandex suit.
Then, someone on the other side of the bathroom door started banging it, but you couldn’t make out what they were saying under the blaring music reverberating throughout the entire house.
“Wait a minute!” You shouted, straining your throat. You began to continue in the loud tone, but the familiar buzz of your phone interrupted you.
Quickly, you fished out the device from a sleek thigh pocket you were thoroughly impressed with Ethan for designing, and clicked it on.
“Speak of the devil,” You mumbled to yourself, seeing the ever-present contact name of ETHAN LANDRY buzzing atop your phone screen.
You answered, pressed the phone to your ear. However, before you could get a word out, Ethan began frantically shouting into the phone.
“[Name]! Goddam—it, okay, I need you to - to - I left my backpack at your place, and I can’t do this without—“
“Ethan! Ethan, Eth— slow down, I can’t—“
“Get my bag, please, and don’t find me, just— leave it at Blackmore, near the fountain, I’ll swing by— and— oh, for fuc—“
And then he hung up. Or, more precisely, probably broke his phone swinging away from whatever was causing him to act like that.
You felt your heart drop, finally registering the intensity of Ethan’s voice. The boy was often lighthearted and dorky, extremely endearing in his polite awkwardness, so hearing how alarmed he was now was sending you for a loop.
You shook your head, storing such feelings away for later. You made a mental note of Ethan’s requests: bag at your apartment, leave at Blackmore fountain.
Nervously, you cranked open the window in the bathroom, eyeing the slingers attached to your wrists. You’d found out entirely by accident after sticking to a beer bottle that Ethan hadn’t merely created a fake pair of web slingers for the costume — he’d supplied you with a functional pair of his own.
Ethan had done a full run-down of his suit once, entirely fascinated with the thing. He was so proud of his own creation, rambling about how the web-fluid took ages to perfect, and about the one time his father got in trouble for “forgetting” to keep track of evidence from the NYPD locker.
This identity was entirely Ethan’s own, and he was so incredibly happy with it. You realized then how selfish your comment had been, how it must have stung him so.
You bit your lip, and pushed yourself back on track, slipping on the matching mask the costume had. Surprisingly, the vision in it wasn’t terrible, and it was merely a little foggy.
Then, at the window, you decided you needed to use the web slingers. You knew this could go extremely wrong, seeing as you obviously hadn’t been bit by a radioactive spider, so your agility, physical build, and pain tolerance were at an all time low in comparison to Ethans, but you remembered how frenzied the boy-hero was— and swung out the window. Time was of essence.
You finnicked with the webs, feeling the cool night chill bite your face, and tried desperately to replicate how Ethan so easily thwipped building to building. You just barely made it into an alley a few blocks away from the party-house, and almost hit your head on a lamp post on the way there, so you knew after this incident you’d never even approach the web-slinger cuffs.
You ran the rest of the way to your apartment, climbed up your fire escape, and shimmied the small gap for Ethan in the glass window open with your foot. After a moment of scanning, you nicked Ethan’s characteristic green canvas bag, and braced yourself to swing once more.
Your web made a slippery connection with the building in front of you - Danny’s apartment - and you swore you saw your life flash before your eyes when you almost fell.
After several moments of climbing down the wall with webs, a situation which closely resembled rock climbing with a rope, you broke into another run, heading to Blackmore University.
You would have felt dead tired by now if not for the adrenaline pumping through you, your anxiety for Ethan up to your ears. That, and maybe the amateur web-slinging that almost killed you, were the only things keeping you upright as you ran around New York.
However, as you made quick shortcuts through other alleys, you heard a familiar cry come out from an approaching block.
“Fucking—“ You heard the boy cry out, heaving, alongside the sounds of an intense scuffle.
Without any acknowledgment of doing so, your body pulled itself to the dimly lit backstreet lane, and you found yourself watching Ethan, partially unmasked, fighting a group of several masked people, weapons and duffle bags of money thrown on the ground. In the distance, you could vaguely hear an alarm — perhaps a banks — beeping on and off.
“E—“ You stopped yourself mid sentence, breath catching in your throat, and when one of the men threatened to grab the pistol lying haphazardly to Ethan’s side, you shot a web at the gun, bringing it to you.
Quickly, you slid the offending weapon away, and did as much as you could to help the still-fighting Ethan. From throwing measly punches of your own, tossing weapons away, or pinning the burglars to the wall with webs, you did it all, until it was just you and Ethan, sitting on the cobblestone, breathing heavily.
He slipped his mask fully back on, and turned to say something to you, obviously seeing your own mask on, as well as your use of his web slingers.
But, then replacing the bank's alarm in your ears, several police sirens could be heard making their way down to the backstreet lane you were occupying.
“We have to go. Can you swing?”  you said to Ethan between gasping for air.
“I’m out of web fluid. It - it’ll take too long to refill,” he pointed lazily to the long-forgotten backpack.
“I’ll do it, then,” You said, trying not to show your hesitancy. Before Ethan could voice his own surprise and fear, you wrapped an arm (and several webs, as you knew you could not fully support his built body) around him and shot a thick string of webs at the closest tall building.
“You’re—“ Ethan’s eyes were wide open, “doing it wrong! We’ll— fall!”
“Just—“ you swung to the next building, completely unaware of how terrifying your technique was to an expert, “bare with it! I promise not to - kill us!”
“I’m unsure how - trustworthy - your - words are!”
“Stop - distracting me!” You said, making a close call on a parked garbage truck, before making your last swing to the fire escape window at your apartment.
Thank god the bank was not all the way across the world to your apartment, for you didn’t know how long your poor swinging skills and decent luck would last.
You two entered your room, and you immediately ripped off the white hooded mask you were wearing, taking in fresh bouts of air like a fish entering water. You felt extremely relieved that you two had made it back safe, alive — but Ethan clearly felt differently.
He tore his mask off, rapidly turning to face you. “I thought I told you to leave the bag at Blackmore!” Ethan’s finger was pointed accusingly, “I told you not to find me, for fucks sakes, [Name]!”
“Excuse me?” You said, in shock. “If I hadn’t found you — and I was going to Blackmore, I was taking fucking shortcuts, Landry — if I hadn’t found you, alright, you could be dead right now. You said it yourself, you were out of web-fluid!”
“Not then! I would’ve made it out fine!”
“Is this fine to you?” You gestured to his bloodied state, beaten up and bruised. “What? Were you gonna drag your broken bones up my fire escape, ask me to fix you up again?”
Ethan’s eyebrows creased. He had no answer for your words. “Just— I fucking told you not to fucking find me!”
“Jesus christ, Landry, you are fucking stubborn. I did find you, okay, but not on purpose— I fucking stumbled upon you. So don’t get all up on me for something you did.”
“You didn’t have to help either,” he said viciously, “I have escaped worse situations without your help. I have done this for years without you, okay?”
You let out an incredulous laugh. “Oh my god, are you serious right now? I wouldn’t have to help you if you didn’t call me, if you didn’t forget your web fluid, and if you just fucking listened to me and didn’t go on patrol tonight.”
Ethan went silent, digesting your words.
“You know this is your fucking fault, right?”
And as soon as the words left your mouth, you regretted them. You wanted to catch the air and stuff it right back down your throat, undo your harshness, realize how increasingly broken Ethan’s tone was.
Realize how he stared at your cuts and limp, realize how guilty he looked as he asked why you went to find him.
Why you put yourself in danger.
Ethan’s mouth opened and closed, unsure of how to tread further, his anger falling off him in waves, revealing the pain he held underneath.
“Fuck, Ethan, I’m sorry, I—“ you started, but stopped when Ethan looked you in the eye.
“You could’ve died,” he whispered, “and you were - you were swinging and fighting armed men, [Name], I—“
“Ethan, I wanted to. I wanted to help you, it was my own goddamn choice. My own stupid choice.”
“No - no, you were right. I should’ve never called you, I have done this all before, in worse moments, all by myself—“
“That does not mean you should, Ethan. Being alone in this kind of danger is not smart.”
“I’d rather be alone than endanger you.”
“Ethan, I’d rather be endangered than have to lose you.”
You stared deep into eachothers eyes, not unlike the way you did at the beginning of the night. Except this time something had changed, perhaps the way you unearthed your hearts to one another now made it so much easier to breathe, to feel, to do.
But there was still hesitation there. Untread territory and past regrets making things - this - so much harder to make real.
You and Ethan wanted to do so much more, to do all the things you pretended to do, but instead, you wrapped your arms around his broad back and hugged him like there was no tomorrow, like you were the last people on earth before a meteor struck. His arms snaked around your waist similarly, longingly, and terribly grievous.
It felt like connecting broken pieces of a heart together, and though you did not kiss, you felt so equally joined to him like you had. The hug was long and intimate, so close you could smell the dull impression of his cheap cologne from earlier, the lonely heat of your bodies joining to warm you both so completely.
You felt so at home in his touch. You could only wish he felt the same.
(And Ethan did. He melted into you, the only thoughts in his mind being that this felt right.
Somewhere, deep in his mind, where he kept his guilt hidden, he felt he was just going to lose another thing he loved. That this love was futile, fading, the loss inevitable.
But today Ethan wanted to be selfish, breathe you in, and be at peace, even for a second.)

Y/N SHOULDN’T FEEL SURPRISED FOR HAVING BEEN STOOD UP BY ETHAN, it seemed to be his favourite hobby lately. But when he came up to her with regretful puppy eyes asking for them to meet so he could explain the reason behind his behaviour, she really thought he would keep his word and show up to fix things.
But once again he failed her, and now Y/N was walking back home alone with mascara running down her face and with her chest filled with disappointment and sadness.
Y/N was walking through the dark and unsafe NYC streets, wondering what excuse her boyfriend was going to use this time, when she heard a whimper coming from the creepy unlit alley she was passing by. Her whole body tightened with fear, hands instantly became sweaty, her heart thundered dangerously fast and yet she stopped walking. Then the noise came again, this time more clear—it was a pained curse from a male voice.
The girl couldn’t decide if she was stupid or too brave, but she walked towards the person. Her eyes widened at the scene—there, sitting next to a container, was Spiderman; a bleeding Spiderman.
“Holy hell, are you okay?” she cried, inspecting the wound. “Of course you’re not okay! You’re bleeding a lot! A lot!”
Ethan cursed internally. Of all the people who could have found him, it had to be her. “Thanks for the calming words.” the superhero said between gritted teeth.
“Sorry! I shouldn’t have said that. I was exaggerating, it’s not that bad.” Y/N tried to convince him.
“You’re a horrible liar” his hands were shaking as he tried to put pressure on the wound.
“Okay, let’s get you out of here, the smell is awful.” the girl said, putting one of his—very strong and muscled—arms around her shoulders. “I know you’re in pain, but I need you to use a bit of your strength to help me lift you to your feet. Can you do that?” the masked figure nodded. “Okay, at the count of three.”
Ethan closed his eyes in pain as he let out a cry of agony. He had been walking towards the cafe where Y/N worked when he heard screaming. An old woman and her granddaughter were being robbed and it was his duty to save them. He would’ve made it to his date with Y/N if the thief’s partner hadn’t caught him off guard and sliced his stomach. Time didn’t matter anymore, he couldn’t show up wounded, and he didn’t have the energy to walk so he stayed in that creepy alley where Y/N found him.
“Ouch!” he yelled when the girl carelessly dropped him on her couch as soon as they arrived to her apartment.
“Sorry!” Y/N said guiltily. “My arms hurt.”
“It’s okay. Thank you, I just need to rest here for a few minutes and I’ll be out of your sight.” he panted.
“You can’t leave! I need to clean you up and then you need to eat something.”
“No, it’s okay. Look, just lend me a first-aid kit, I’ll do it myself. Then I’m leaving.” it wasn’t that Ethan was ungrateful for her help, he just didn’t want to be a burden. Also, if she was to see his body, she was going to recognize him instantly. And Ethan was not going to let that happen.
“Hey, you’re always saving our asses, it’s time someone finally takes care of you.” she smiled softly.
“I really appreciate that, seriously. But I’d be more comfortable doing it myself, if you don’t mind.”
“As you wish.” she said in understanding. And as he stitched himself up, Y/N went to the kitchen to prepare something for him to eat.
Ethan watched her from the doorframe. He wanted to close the space so badly, he wanted to wrap his arms around her waist and never let go. They saw each other everyday, but it’s been days since the last time he got to hold her, kiss her, touch her.
Y/N was really pissed at him, and with good reason. Countless were the times he had stood her up and he slowly—and absentmindedly—started to distance himself from her. And a few days ago, Y/N just exploded and they started fighting. Instead of telling her the truth (that he was a superhero and that the NYC streets were more dangerous than he had thought) he told her she was being dramatic and that he needed a bit of space. He regretted it instantly, and wanted to throw up as soon as his eyes caught her hurt expression. He was trying to keep her safe, but he handed everything in the worst way possible and ended up wounding the person that meant the most to him.
“You cooked for me?” he spoke up. Even though she couldn’t see it, she felt the smile on his voice.
“I told you, it’s time someone takes care of you.” she answered. “Is the wound okay? Does it hurt?”
“I’m fine. I’m a big tough boy.” he said in a teasing voice when she finished. “Thank you, Y/N. You saved me.”
“Anytime, Spider-boy. And honestly, you shouldn’t even thank me, you risk your life for us every- wait a minute.” she stopped when she realised something. “How do you know my name?”
Fuck, he cursed internally. He had messed up. “You told me.” he tried to sound confident.
“No, I didn’t. Do we know each other? Do we go to the same college?” Y/N asked curiously.
“I need to go.” he stood up abruptly, and a whimper of pain left his mouth.
“No! I’m sorry, I won’t press the subject.” she said, grabbing his forearms to sit him back on the chair. “I respect you wanting to keep your identity hidden. I won’t ask any more questions, but please stay. You’re still weak, you need to eat something.”
“You already did a lot. Really.”
“I swear to god, stop being stubborn.”
Who was he kidding with the hesitation? Just one look at her doe eyes and he was on his knees. As he ate, Y/N had her back to him so he could take his mask off. She could have turned around at any time and discover that the friendly neighbour hero was her boyfriend, but she never did. She respected his wish of not wanting to show his face, and that made him love her ever more.
“Your omelette was great” he said as he put the plate on the dishwasher. “Thank you.”
“You’re very welcome.”
“Why were you crying?” he asked, even though he knew the answer. Ethan and Y/N weren’t on speaking terms, so maybe by talking to her through his secret identity would give him an insight on how to fix the relationship he tore up.
The sad girl frowned and pressed her lips into a line. She didn’t talk to her friends much about Ethan because she didn’t want to put them in an uncomfortable position, as they were all friends, so she had been keeping her frustrations bottled up. And now there was this trustful kind stranger asking her about it, so she gave in.
“My boyfriend didn’t show up to our date. He has been acting so strange lately. He shows up late, he always has a different excuse and gets all nervous and defensive because he’s obviously lying, but most times he doesn’t even show up. Like today.” the exhaustion and defeat was evident on her tone and it broke his heart. “He was supposed to meet me today, so he could open up and tell me what’s going on in his life, but…”
“He let you down again.” he added in a sad tone. Y/N nodded, tears blurring her eyes. “What are you going to do?”
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath “I honestly don’t know. I love him, I really do, but our relationship has become one-sided. I’m trying to save it, but it seems like he doesn’t care anymore.”
Fear crept into his mind. Was that it? Was it their end? Was she going to break up with him the next day? He wouldn’t blame her. Yet, he couldn’t help being selfish—he did not want them to break up.
“Maybe there is something going on in his life… something that he can’t tell you for your own good.” he said, and he knew he sounded stupid.
“What could be so bad that he can’t talk to me about it? We have always been honest with each other. He knows he can tell me anything, he knows that he’ll have my support no matter what. I just want him to talk to me. I don’t know what happened with our relationship, but there’s nothing I can do unless he talks to me.”
“Things are going to get better.” the superhero said, rubbing her arm in a comforting gesture.
Ethan had multiple opportunities to be honest with her, to explain why he had become so distant and yet he held his pride and told her she was exaggerating the whole situation. So, as much as she tried to be positive and believe Spider-man’s words, she was scared the story of them might be ending soon.

ETHAN REACHED THE TABLE WHERE THE GROUP WAS SITTING AT and eyed the two empty spots left. One was next to Chad, who was talking animatedly with Tara and Mindy, and the other one was beside Y/N. His spot had always been the one next to hers, but with their current complications and not knowing exactly in which page they were at, he didn’t know what to do. Seeing the way she was nervously pulling at her clothes and tried to look busy, he ended up choosing the first option.
Even though she was trying hard to avoid looking at him, his presence was overwhelming and it took all of her strength to hold back from peaking a glance at his gorgeous smile and perfect curls. She was dying to know if the situation was killing him as much as it was killing her.
Little did she know the boy was losing his mind. The anguish was too much, so many thoughts were running through his mind. He was dying to let her know what was going on, but he was scared it was going to put her in danger. He would rather have her be angry at him than her getting hurt because of him. The wiser thing would be to let her go, to free her from the chaos that came with being involved with a superhero, but he the selfish part of him couldn’t break things up—Ethan loved her too much to give her up.
He needed to come up with a decision. This contest of who could act like they cared less needed to end and he could not tolerate the loud silence between them anymore. “Do you think we could talk tonight?”
“If you have the decency to show up.” she shrugged.
Her armour was up, and it was understandable. “I will. I’ll meet you at your apartment after Econ?”
“Okay.” Y/N nodded. “I’m serious, Ethan. Show up. This is your last chance.”
“I won’t let you down again, Y/N/N. I promise.”

ETHAN DIDN'T KNOW IF THE AREA WHERE Y/N WORKED IN WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS OR IF HE JUST HAD BAD LUCK, but every time he was near, something happened that forced him to step in. Thankfully, this time it was an inexperienced thief he easily managed to bring down but his wound wasn't fully healed yet so he was in a bit of pain after the fight. But the important thing was that he made it to Y/N's house.
The girl was unable to hide her relief when she opened the door, but it soon turned into worry. "Ethan, what the hell happened? You're bleeding!"
The curly-haired boy looked down to find a scarlet stain on his blue polo shirt. The wound on his abdomen must have opened while he was stopping the thief, and he didn't even noticed because of the adrenaline. "Um, it's nothing, I-"
"Sit down." she ordered right before leaving to grab the first-aid kit. When she lifted his shirt up, she frowned.
"What is it?" Ethan asked worriedly.
"Ethan, when did this happen?"
"Um, I was robbed while making my way here." the lie slipped off his tongue in an instant.
"You keep lying to me." she let out a humourless laugh. "This has been stitched before, Ethan."
He sighed, thinking of another excuse. "Okay, fine. It's not new. I fell and landed on something sharp, and it cut my stomach."
"Okay, now I'm not only angry because you lied to me twice in the past sixty seconds, but also because you think I'm stupid."
"I don't think you're stupid."
"If you believe I'd buy that shitty excuse, then yes, I think you think I'm stupid." she spat. "Tell me the truth. Right now, Ethan."
Silence embraced the room. As Y/N worked on the wound, Ethan tried to find the words to explain. "I don't know where to start."
"Let's start by telling me how did you get this."
"A thief did it to me." he said, and ignoring his girlfriend's warning glance, he continued, "but he wasn't robbing me. He was stealing from an old woman and I stepped in. He cut me while I was distracted."
Y/N's eyes widened in surprise as they scrutinised his face, trying to spot any sign that told her he was lying. She find none. "You fought them?" she asked in disbelief, and Ethan nodded. "That's... that's really brave. And stupid."
"It's my job." he blurted out, making her look at him in confusion. "Well, it's not a job job, because I don't get paid. Not that I'd do it for money, even though I need it-"
"Eth!" she interrupted him. "I love it when you ramble, you're adorable, but could you please explain?"
"I missed you calling me Eth." he whispered, caressing her right cheek. "I miss you."
"I miss you, too, Eth. But we need to talk. Well, you need to talk. What is going on with you? Why are you so distant? Why do you keep missing our dates? What did you mean by 'It's my job'?"
"I'll tell you, but I need to warn you first. You were in danger before knowing this, but after I tell you... you are going to be an even bigger target. And you can't tell anyone, okay? No one knows, and no one has to know."
"Okay, just spit it out, Ethan."
"I'm Spider-man."
It was as if their surroundings had frozen, and minutes felt like hours. Y/N sat on the couch, dumbfounded, and Ethan's leg bounced as he bit his nails.
Meanwhile, Y/N's brain worked at a fast pace, trying to connect the dots. Now, in hindsight, everything made sense. His bruises, his wounds, why he was always in high alert, why his walls were up, his grades dropping, his tardiness... he became the friendly neighborhood spiderman. The vigilante she had found bleeding the previous night.
"Hey! You used your secret identity to get information out of me, asshole!"
"That's all you have to say?!"
"I mean, no... but I don't really know what to say."
"You're not mad?"
"I don't think so. I really wish you would've told me, could've saved up lots of arguments, but I do understand why you didn't tell me. I'm glad you opened up, tho. I am really tired of missing you and not kissing you."
Ethan laughed. “I love you. I missed you like crazy, and I'm sorry for everything.” he hold her close to his chest and let himself relax for the first time in weeks. “By the way, you need to quit that job. I swear there’s a robbery every five fucking minutes.”
“Have you been following me?” she arched her eyebrow.
“Keeping an eye on you.” he corrected. “I can’t let anything happen to my girl, and like I said, it’s a dangerous area.”
Y/N laughed and kissed his lips tenderly “I love you, my little stalker. Don’t keep secrets from me ever again.”
“Never. I promise. We’re a team.”

It had been the same for months now, Spider-Man enters your apartment, gets patched up by you, and then swings his way out your window with unsaid words.
But you didn’t know anything about him. All you knew was that he was the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. You wanted to know more about him.
Every night, you awaited for the familiar knock on your window.
Hell, you even stayed up for him. You liked the fact you could talk to him and he’d talk back with you in a actual conversation. Your friends never done that. But he did, he listened.
So you waited, like every other night for his knock, and eventually you heard it, which made you basically leap off your mattress to your window which was covered with your curtain.
You didn’t hesitate to move the fabric aside and open the latch to your window.
You see the masked vigilante waiting there, “Hey,” You greet him as you open your window further, letting him in.
“Hi.” He nods, clutching his side.
“What happened this time?” You ask, your eyes dripping in concern as you eyer his slightly slumped figure.
“Long story.”
“I have time.” You nod for him to sit on your bed, “Let me patch you up, too.”
“I promise you it’s not that bad.” He tries to assure you but you wouldn’t budge.
“I don’t care, I don’t want you swinging around New York with a kidney popping out.”
If you could see his face, he definitely screwed a face at that, “I don’t have a kidney popping out.”
“I don’t care, sit.” You point to him, then your comforter as you go through to your bathroom, but then you pop your head back in the door, “I swear to god, if you bleed out on my bed you will have a kidney hanging out.”
Spider-Man just nods, seemingly to be intimidated at your words.
