YOU SHOULD KNOW: If you cast Levitate 1 sec on Target on a cliff racer, it will fall out of the sky and die because Levitate replaces its regular flight speed, and when it loses Levitate, it doesn't get it back. If you hit it with the spell while it's high enough in the air, the fall damage will kill it.
Thanks to /u/JaxMed from reddit for this trick

Magic for Recentering During Times of Conflict
Note: I am writing this immediately following the November 2024 election cycle, but this is not meant to be specific to this time. Nor am I inferring that magic can solve all of our problems. Please seek out help from a professional if you need it.
One of the deep truths that I have uncovered in my life is that when I am unbalanced (emotionally, physically, spiritually), I am of no use to myself or to others. When something rocks me to the core of my being as this election has, I need to feel all of the feels first and foremost. Then, I need to find a way to move on from the immediate (VERY VALID) emotional turmoil so that I don't get stuck in a pattern of rumination or pathological catastrophizing.
These are some of the ways that I do so. This list is not meant to be exhaustive and, of course, I do not expect every one of these to work for everyone. That is okay and expected. I'm also not including medical, psychological, or court-based interventions because I am not a doctor or a lawyer. Some of these tips are purely magical in nature and some are what I would call magic adjacent - they are mundane actions that are cleansing in nature.
Feel your feelings. I know I said AFTER, but I feel that I need to reiterate this. These steps are unlikely to work until you have worked your way through the first stages of rage, revolt, grief, name your emotion here. How long this takes will be different for everyone. Don't rush this.
Breathe. When I am really In It, I find meditation nearly impossible. I need to be reminded how to take deep breaths. This is when I get help—I use the Tide App for this. I set it to "Breathe," a fifteen-minute timer, and balanced breath. If you're new to breath work, start with five minutes. This is very simple: The app makes a sound for inhalation and one for exhalation. For many people, deep breathing helps to bring your nervous system into balance.
Change. This isn't a tip for everyone, but you know who you are. (I'm definitely guilty of this) If you've been wearing the same clothes for a week, stewing in your emotional turmoil, it's time to change them. Every single item you've been wearing. This may go to blankets or bedding, too. Put them all in the wash and give yourself a fresh set and a fresh start.
Wash. Take an intentional bath or shower. Wash every part of your body, focusing on removing the bad emotions with soap and washing them down the drain. You can add oomph to this by using soaps with cleansing scents (think lavender, citrus, lemongrass, sage, etc.).
Cut or Dye your hair. This is a deep take that will only work for some people, but if you're like me, cutting your hair can be a big release. It doesn't have to be a big change (though I find the bigger the cut, the bigger the release). Sometimes, making a visible change to your appearance can change how you feel. IYKYK
Small Cleansing Rituals. These will vary greatly depending on your practice and culture. If cleansing yourself with smoke or crystals really gets you, do it.
Clean Your House - stale energy is stale. Part of getting over an emotional episode, for me, is getting the energy in my environment flowing again. Open some windows. Wash your floors. Pick up the mess you created when you were too In It to do anything more than feel. This could be your bedroom, house, or space in which you spent the most time while you were down for the count. You can add oomph to this with Cleansing Vinegar.
Big Cleansing Rituals—When something is really stuck, we need the big guns. This could be cord-cutting or cleansing spells, whatever works well for you. I have a spell that works for this here.
Flush it out of you. (TW: alcohol) If you're the potion type, you can make a cleansing potion to move the emotions through your body until you eventually pee them out. This doesn't have to be alcoholic, though I like alcohol for its mild diuretic effects in this scenario. Think cleansing with citrus here, especially. My long-form lemonade will definitely work here, as would many types of tea. I have a seasoned cocktail specifically designed to do this here.
Banish it. There are too many ways to do a banishing spell for me to list them all here. But, since we are talking about explicitly banishing something from your own body - I suggest using food. Onions and black pepper are good banishing ingredients that taste great, too. I have a French Onion Soup banishing recipe here.
I want to reiterate here that if you are still dealing with your emotions stage of things right now, that is completely okay. This isn't meant to rush anyone through this process. We are all different people with different needs. It's also okay (and probably expected) that all of these things listed above won't work for all people - after all, they are things that work for me, specifically.
You need to find out what works for you. If don't know where to start right now, I hope this gave you some ideas. And, as always, if there's a method of getting through the hard shit that you'd like to add to this, please do! We could all use some new ideas for the hard road ahead.

There's something interesting I've noticed in my spellcrafting experiments. I do a lot of food magic, turning meals into spells and writing recipes specifically for magical purposes.
When a dish takes more time and effort to create, I find it has a greater magical "punch." Quick and easy dishes done with magic work just fine, of course. I wouldn't do them if they didn't. But their effects don't last as long, I've found, and they tend to not have as drastic results as something that takes a lot of energy.
Once I noticed this in my food magics, I started seeing it elsewhere, too. I tested it with my money bowl by going from a single tea light candle lit once per week to a large taper candle lit every day. Not much else changed about the bowl itself, but I also decided to physically write out a petition instead of just thinking what I wanted during the casting.
It's had drastically different results. Money comes in quicker, easier, and in large quantities. I think it's in part because the set-up of the spell took more effort (the petition) and because it's taking active, concentrated care every day (lighting and babysitting the candle). The energy input matches the output.
Now, I do think this means that low-effort spellwork would yield smaller or shorter-term results. That doesn't mean it isn't worth doing. Performing a bunch of little spells for the same purpose builds up that effort and energy over time, compounding into a bigger and bigger result.
But the effort put in tends to match the results gotten out of spells. The more care taken, the more effort it takes, the more attention it gets, the better it'll do.
Obviously, this is based on observations done on my own spellwork and practice. It makes sense that effort = results in my practice, since I'm pulling fatestrings and so forth, and the harder the pull, the bigger the movement. So YMMV, etc.
I'm curious, though, has anyone else noticed this same thing? And if so, what sort of paradigm are you working with?

Morrowind's Constant Effect Enchantments
In Fallout universe, the Supermutants who use stealth technology, inevitably become addicted to it, manifesting maladaptive behavior, paranoia, delusions, affected speech, brain damage, and most commonly of all, schizophrenia.
In Morrowind, players often try to outdo each other with the cumulative magnitude of their constant effect Chameleon enchantments—a spell which grants them near invisibility.
Collate 1 and 2, won't you.

Send me your unique spells!
I'm looking for inspiration in spell design and I'm very bored with the typical 'light the candles say the chant' structure. There's nothing wrong with those, I love doing them, but I'm trying to break out of the box. Send me your favorite spells please, I'd love to hear!

for like the fifth time I'm going to try and say my feelings on "you have to do physical support actions or your magic won't work"
if you're not familiar with this it basically means performing regular ""mundane"" actions that correspond with your magical intent. Cast a house protection spell, but also lock the doors. Cast a job spell, but also apply for jobs.
At face value it does not seem like very bad advice and in fact I do think that for many people it's decent advice, in fact I suspect it's helpful for many,
but I find an intense difference between these two statements:
"Mundane supportive actions can be a helpful technique for manifestation. It's something you might try as part of your magical experiments or for troubleshooting when your magic isn't working well,"
and,
"You must perform corresponding physical actions or your magic will not work."
And I think that most people just sort of automatically assume some version of this to be true without ever really thinking about it. And today I'd like to tug at some of this base assumption yarn and see what the cardigan looks like when we're done.
Here are some things I see said about this:
"Magic follows the path of least resistance [assumption of its own, but let's roll with it] and taking mundane supportive action reduces resistance against the spell."
Well, does it though?
Let's assume that magic takes the path of least resistance
(and gods, spirits, and entities always, universally, and unfailingly function in a way that simply takes the least amount of energy possible and never behave in unique and unpredictable ways according to their personality and whims)
and that the path of least resistance for a job spell is that the delivery person is going to hand you a package at your door and say, "hey, we're hiring, I get a bonus referral if you call this number by Friday."
Okay, so that's the path of least resistance. By, like, a huge margin. Let's say that path has 5 resistance points (low!).
And you applying for jobs online or in person has 750 resistance points (holy shit, that's quite high).
Like, right now, for whatever reason, you're just not getting hired when you submit your resume (*your "best friend" hid swear words in your job experience column as a "joke").
For this thought experiment, the spell is simply going to manifest by the delivery person handing you a referral printout.
So let me ask you this
Is going out to apply to jobs with your resume actually reducing "resistance" in a way that matters at all?
In fact, in some scenarios, is it possible that the actions you take (turning in your tainted resume) increase resistance, even though from our perspective it is supposed to be helping?
In this thought exercise, these mundane actions which are supposed to be helping are either irrelevant to the path the spell is actually going to take, or are actually increasing "resistance."
So -
Are mundane actions always necessary to compel spells to manifest?
And if they are always necessary, what is the mystical function which links unrelated and unhelpful actions to the actual manifestation of the spell?
I've never seen anyone explain that part. Because I think people would say something like
The Universe wants to see you work towards your own goals
In which case, that is the spell, I've already done that, it was me casting the spell!!!!!
(Also I'm not New Age, I do not believe in a conscious or co-creating Universe in a way that matters, and my spiritual beliefs about the Universe do not intersect with my magic)
or maybe they'd say like
Splashing around in the pond of Applying For Jobs somehow causes ripples in the Jobs pond that makes it easier for the spell to manifest,
like apparently there's some sort of surface tension that we need to break in order to allow the spell to manifest at all.
And to be perfectly honest,
yeah.
I believe in that one.
I believe it helps!!
It's the equivalent of a cartoon where a big cloud of dust kicks up and then something important is swapped out behind the scenes but we don't really know how it happened.
But!
I don't believe it helps all of the time!
I don't believe it is necessary all of the time!
When facing a very stagnant or resistant situation, I personally find that a valid magical technique is splashing about in the pond and getting the silt stirred up and then bippity boppity, the change happened!
This of course implies that such actions may be unnecessary and even very unhelpful when:
Situations are rapidly changing and fast-paced
Situations are very delicate and it was already never safe for you to take the only available mundane options
...you didn't need to do so, because the spell was going to manifest just fine anyway
The splashing is actually getting directly in the way of causing manifestation
Let's revisit that job spell where your ""friend"" fucked with your resume.
Now let's say that your job spell has specific requirements.
Let's say that you must have a work from home position in your niche field.
The only way to get these jobs (besides in-person networking, which you can't do because you are disabled) is to apply online.
And in this field you do not fill out little job apps. You always send in your resume.
Every single time you send in your resume, you are unknowingly sending a tampered resume that uses extremely inappropriate language.
Because you have been told you must take mundane supportive action or your spell will not manifest, you actively seek out employers and send them your resume. They never reply.
Once you send in your resume, even employers who were talking to you stopped contact.
Someone on Twitter reaches out to you! Unexpected! Great lead! You send in your resume (you must perform physical supportive actions or your spell will not manifest) and...
They block you.
"Now hold on," perhaps you are saying, "this is such a specific situation. And not very reasonable, either. A majority of people will be able to perform physical supportive actions that are actually helpful."
In which I return to point #1, where if the only way the spell was going to manifest was via the delivery driver, how do you know any specific action you are taking is actually helpful?
And waving back to point #2, which is, it is reasonable, actually, for people to be doing everything appropriate and reasonable to support their spellwork, but unknownst to them there is some hidden problem that is causing mundane actions to fuck up manifestation,
whether or not it is a simple and obvious problem like a fucky resume, or whether it is a very obscure and esoteric problem,
But then also let's roll right into point #3, which is,
I just don't believe that a majority of practitioners, even very good practitioners, are so adept at spellwork that they know exactly the "path of resistance" their spells are going to take,
because for some reason when people say "path of least resistance" apparently they're envisioning like 2 or 3 huge macro channels we can get in there and dig out with shovels,
and not ten thousand cracks the size of spider legs smashed into the mirror of reality,
each one almost as equally likely as one another,
running into each other like colors in a liquid prism,
many of which may not respond at all to our clumsy actions,
may be specifically resistant to our actions,
or operate on planes of existence so Other that it is a miracle the intersect with physical reality at all, and yet are as alike as any crack to shunt our manifestations to our feet.
"Magic follows the path of least resistance" is a delightful nod at Newtonian physics, and doesn't actually imply that, like, these paths are things we can necessarily interact with in a way that matters,
are large enough that we can adeptly manipulate them with our mountainous, clunky bodies,
are channels we recognize or personally believe in,
or even exist within our realm of comprehension.
The "path of least resistance" could be nine hundred thoughts flitting through a series of retail worker's minds, one secret shopper not being able to find the right brand of salsa, a dropped cigarette, and an exasperated manager finally turning to Annoying Chad and saying, "you said you can get your friend to work here, right?"
well, anyway.
Thoughts like these are why I question this magical "law" as being a law in the first place, and why some of the stuff we take for granted in manifestation not really mattering at all, sometimes.
I just believe that magic is supposed to work.
I do think that very often, and for mysterious reasons of mystery, mundane support actions can help. (splashing in the pond, &etc)
I think that if you are personally having trouble manifesting, or if you are new to magic and you're not sure what to try first,
experimenting with mundane support actions is just dandy.
I think that if you're more experienced in magic and looking to try something new, experimenting with magical support actions is a nifty way to flesh out your personal praxis.
But I think that unless you are specifically working with a magical tradition that requires mundane support actions,
then this is not an actual rule or law at all. It's just a technique, and like any other can help, harm, or do nothing at all.

Have you ever done tarot spells? If so, how? Like what do you do and who do you use them in spells?
Some friends and I are running a lil experiment and we're using the cards very loosely like how people do crystal grids, but I'd love to hear how y'all use tarot in spells.

Introducing a spell type I've been developing for a while: Mana Weaves.
As an introduction, a Mana Weave is working on the Principal of Mana's Centrality, or the idea that Mana is the substance of magic, and the matter your soul is made of. Under this philosophy, the process of casting spells of any kind is understood to be an act of Mana Manipulation. In the Mana Manipulation framework of practice, the Law of Three Fold applies, though I've found in my own experience that there are two ways to cast: cast with the ambient Mana in the environment, or cast with your own Mana, and the universe is much less quick to smack you if you cast from your own Mana.
Problem: I need to science up my magic by compulsion, I need to understand and iterate, but that takes a lot of Mana to use.
Solution: Mana Weave creates a bubble of partially your Mana and partially the ambient Mana, and it amplifies it in a contained work station in three dimensional space.
Setup: (only necessary to do once per wand)Take a dedicated wand and meditate, focus on bonding the wand to you so you can feel it as a part of your Mana essence. For this to work, this wand must be made so close as to feel like another organ in your soul's body. Then, find a point on your wand and ensure it is a point where you can easily place your index finger on on your dominant hand and hold it there for extended periods of time. (If you've played VRChat and used the markers, this is the rough visualization you're going for.) Focus your Mana from your belly and visualize it following a path around your heart and down your arm, into your hand and wand, then draw that path out from the tip of the wand. This is to give a focusing point. After creating that path, focus on moving the line where your fingertip rests in 3D Space to instead be bonded to your fingertip. Then, once the line is set, focus on cutting the points either side of the wand so that the path is a broken circuit. Once the connection is severed, that point where the line is bonded to your finger lets you complete the circuit and allow Mana Flow in a controlled way.
NOTE: Ensure you draw that Mana line through the point where your finger will rest on the wand and ensure that point is not at the tip of the wand.
Function: Ley lines naturally firm when Astral Caves flow near enough the Physical Plane for Mana to flow thick through the planar barrier. Over time it creates a selfperpetuating cycle of Mana from the Astral and Physical Planes blend and create a vortex. This vortex flow creates a field that sucks in Mana and amplifies it's energy output, or a "Locational Mana Density Shifting Field" that increases the Mana Density of an area that functions as a storage location, and thus amplifies the output energy draw and thus stronger magic you can cast. This weave functions by creating an artificial network of Ley lines in an ordered and repeated pattern as opposed to the more chaotic and random patterns of the natural ones. This allows the field it creates to be stronger and more structurally sound while being shrunken down.
Procedures: Take your wand and draw a mesh in 3D Space, then draw a circle around it while focusing your intention on bonding the mesh into a solid three dimensional weave. After this, you can draw circles in the air and draw Glyphs inside them. When creating the circles, focus your intention on letting what's put inside move as one piece that can jigsaw into place with other circles. (This last part is the foundation of my craft. All of my spells are comprised of Sigil Glyphs that can work together as building blocks. Think molecules and letters for how this modular images system interlocks together.) Place each Glyph in the weave and the Glyphs will draw from the Mana your weave draws in from both the environment and from you. The weave creates a self contained bubble that gives a space of super strong amplified Mana output, but fully workable as a work station safe enough for novices to practice most lone witch spells. After you place the Glyphs into position, place the Mana Weave in it's place wherever the spell requires, and then you just put a tiny bit of your own Mana into the weave to activate it.
Example Spell: Potection of My Soul
Cast Mana Weave around head and place the Glyphs inside, then grip the weave and mold it to your head shape, ensuring it is completely immersing your head in the Mana Weave boundary. Doing this ensures the effected enclosed space creates a saturation therapy of sorts and ensures that the spell is saturating your head, amplifying it and ensuring it's effects permeate your flesh. This can also effect the entire body, just mold the weave to the body and head together instead.

Welcome to thought experiments with Minx, Part 5,678
I had a random thought last night that I want to discuss:
So I believe that if a person is allergic to lavender (as an example), lavender becomes a baneful ingredient SPECIFICALLY targeted towards them.
But could they counter it by taking antihistamines every day? Like as a default? Do antihistamines protect from the energetics of lavender as well as the physical?
Or, on the other hand, would that person have to enchant the antihistamines in some way to gain that effect?

Looking for advice for a binding spell to be used on a trickster spirit that has been causing problems in my home. We have tried reasoning with them and being diplomatic but they are not respecting our house rules so we are going to try a binding spell, as they have been there longer than we have and we’d prefer to not banish them if we can avoid it.
My current plan is to create an effigy to represent the spirit, bind it in thread or rope and place it inside a container sealed in wax. I think I will put a paper inside the container that says the conditions of the spell and other materials like maybe black salt.
I would love any advice from someone who has dealt with a similar situation or just knows more than me about this type of spell :)
