Here's what I've got so far:

2. Wear long clothes which can sometimes resemble a skirt
3. Talk about ethics and the proper use of human power
4. Know every fact about your fursona
5. Also be super good at some other non-anthropomorphic skills
6. Be a good judge of character
7. Have a dog named "Sherman" (after a dog name from A Child's Garden of Verses), who is an old man, short, has a funny accent, likes playing fetch, etc.
8. Be super chill
9. Be a programmer and sometimes go by "nostalgebraist" (because I also named my fursona after the mathematician)
10. Also be good at other things

I mean, this is basically what I said about why I think the evil personality is cool?
A lot of people talk about evil as having motivations, as opposed to being a purely destructive force, but I think the former characterization is pretty much correct. An evil person might want other people to suffer because they find it amusing, or because it makes them feel powerful and/or invulnerable, etc.
Evil is just another psychological quality like any other. The thing to remember is that it's just one of many, and they don't all cohere well. The "evil" part of my personality that wants to pour oil in the ocean has to balance itself off against my desire not to flood the ocean or other people's property (which I would want to avoid even if it would make my personal life a bit easier, because I like that stuff), my desire to not make people sad, my tendency to like to look cool in front of other people, etc.

On the whole dust specks vs. torture thing:
Replace "50 years of torture" with "permanent death in a car crash", which has even less utility, and you'll find that the scenario doesn't actually violate your revealed preferences.
When was the last time any of you got dust in your eyes? I bike home from school, and today I went past 2 people with leaf blowers aimed at the street.
(What kind of jerk business-owners decided that the best time to pay people to use leaf blowers was right when the major street that the leaf blower users would be working along was filled with pedestrian and car traffic because a high school with thousands of students just got out? Jerks.)
Apparently, I found the prospect of getting a speck in my eye to be unpleasant enough to warrant increasing my risk of death by traffic accident by some marginal value. (I reduced my field of vision a lot to avoid the specks, and my eyes may have been closed at points. This is not a safe behavior when you are biking in traffic.)
Clearly, this shows that my instinct is to accept a very small risk of a very large personal disutility for a guaranteed absence of dust specks. 1/3^^^3 risk of 50 years of torture for a guaranteed absence of dust specks is a better (read: higher expected value) offer than the choice I made.
If 3^^^3 people make the same choice that I made by instinct, that on average amounts to one person being tortured to prevent 3^^^3 people from getting dust specks in their eyes.

I've only done two or three gourmand runs so far, but it seems like scavengers are either totally innocuous or a literal death sentence, with no in-between
I'm kind of surprised I haven't run into any, though I suppose they're pretty easy to avoid

In Scott's examples, both the number of people and the duration change exponentially, which is how he gets a monotonic function. You get 2^n * 50 * (0.999)^n = 50 * (1.998)^n, which grows exponentially for all n. You made the people grow linearly and the duration decrease exponentially, which is different.

Utilitarians and Intuition
 The whole "speckgate" thing nostalgebraist has been talking about reminds me of one of the problems I have with utilitarianism, namely that it seems to have a very ambiguous attitude towards intuition.
For those who haven't been following it, the argument is about whether 3^^^3 people each suffering a single dust speck in their eye is better or worse than one person being tortured for a lifetime. If you think you can just "add up" suffering from person to person, then it seems clear that 3^^^3 is such an absurdly vast number that even an absurdly small inconvenience for 3^^^3 people is a worse outcome than just one person being tortured. For a lot of people, though, this is very unintuitive, and thus people are motivated to propose different rules for summing suffering besides "just add it up" that solve this problem.
The thing is, there's a sum rule that trivially solves the problem and leads to the correct intuitive result: multiple peoples' suffering only matters to the extent that one person can imagine it.
That rule automatically satisfies any and all moral intuitions. If you weigh 3^^^3 people suffering dust specks against one person being tortured and think the torture is worse, this rule says that itself is evidence that it is worse.
I don't think many utilitarians would accept this rule. Even those uncomfortable with torturing one person for the sake of 3^^^3 dust specks would argue that they could be mistaken, that in general one person's imagination of others' suffering is often incorrect.
But here we get to the fundamental problem: if your intuitions were an acceptable reason to try to find a new sum rule, why aren't they an acceptable basis for a sum rule? Put another way, everyone seems to be acting as if there's a very obvious line at which intuitions stop mattering for moral philosophy...while having no clear agreement where that line is.
This is a problem for other moral philosophies, but not for all of them. If you're Kant, you honestly believe that your moral philosophy is a direct consequence of the definition of moral obligation, no intuition needed. If you're a dedicated intuitionist or a moral descriptivist then you just chalk everything up to intuition and once again you know where you stand. Utilitarians, though, are in the middle, and generally don't have a clear conception of where this line is.
I should add that, while this sort of thing bothers me when moral philosophers do it, for some reason it bothers me a lot less in other branches of philosophy. Analytic philosophy these days seems to generally stick to a rough balance, where intuition is important for proposing general principles but those principles still have to be expressed and enforced in a more logic-driven way. I think part of why this only annoys me in moral philosophy is because in other branches it seems to be working a lot better. That is, most other branches of analytic philosophy today can justify themselves in the same way mathematicians do: they pick axioms largely intuitively, and stick with them based on which ones lead to interesting results. So for example, you can propose a largely intuition-driven concept of identity, which allows you to derive the cool result that the world contains a posteriori necessary truths. I feel like I haven't really seen the same thing come out of moral philosophy, but maybe that's just because anything weird gets interpreted as a paradox or a problem, not as an interesting weird result. Then again, that seems to indicate that intuition is playing a different role.
In conclusion, utilitarians, if you could all just agree on what role intuition plays in your meta-ethics I'm sure everything can be resolved. Probably. ;)

Hey Frank!
If you could design a perfect world for us all to live in, what would it be like? What would your life be like in this world?
I'm not sure I'd say "design" -- I'd want to change the world in a way to approximate a particular picture in my head.
I'm not sure I have any unified concept of "the good life." I can write specific stories about specific individuals, but I'm not sure what they have in common.
How about this:
Everyone lives in houses, big houses (rooms for individual family members, as opposed to "the whole family shares a bedroom").
Students/interns/volunteers have housing at places where they work, except they are treated much better there than in their own homes. This is seen as a huge perk by everyone who gets it. In particular, housing at workplaces is connected to the work they are doing; if you were a housekeeper in my ideal world, you'd be paid more, because you'd have a nicer room and stuff. (Would this make people reluctant to do the more "unpleasant" jobs, though?)
If you don't have housing at work, you can get housing nearby but at a lower cost, and with a lower income, because prices have been lowered substantially for most consumer goods.
People have plenty of spare time (how much is the question).
All consumable goods, especially food, are very cheap; most people don't work because they have enough money to live, and because they have other things they want to do, including (of course) reading and intellectual discussion.
People's lives aren't massively constrained by "survival mode" -- life is not massively hard, the quality of life is high, people are very civilized and have time to be nice to each other.
Employment is no longer the main mechanism for producing income, but it still exists.
People have hobbies, some of which involve making money, but that's not the main purpose of the hobbies.
Technology has made many things much easier to do, and people can use those technologies to achieve many more goals than they used to. (I'm envisioning some sort of [very advanced?] digital personal assistant.) The idea would be to give people the ability to use their time as effectively as possible so they could get the things they really wanted. People would find all sorts of ways to use this new leisure time, even when they're not "exercising" the new abilities.
Making the world more technologically advanced to this degree would make many things more possible, not just more convenient, but that's just my personal hunch.
For myself, I would probably teach math and live with many other people who were similar (professors, grad students, people who do non-academic things I'm interested in, etc.) at some giant sort of "collective house" thing. We'd have more couches and bookshelves than desks and computers, since we wouldn't really need the latter. Certain people would have rooms they could seal themselves in, but they would usually be doing work and not go in there unless they had to. (Or they would be eating things that produce flatulence.) If they were free, everyone would sit around, talking and reading and walking around and so forth.
