Is there any idol or idols that you particularly enjoy writing? If so, what's the reason?

Excellent question, Elysia. Before I give an specific answer I'll give a generic one: I really enjoy writing idols that are over 30 years old, because they allow for more mature stories and idols from 2nd generation groups, to introduce them to new audiences. It's the whole reason I created my Legends series: to pay homage to them.

Now on to specific idols

Karina leads all idols in appearances in my fics. I really liked creating a character development that matches her own evolution as an idol, slowly growing into a more mature personality. It also helps she's quite popular and got really big tits.

Sana is a very fun idol to write because you can combine her duality of being a cute girl and an alluring vixen at the same time and create very volcanic stories.

Yuna fits perfectly with stories where you just let her loose and do her thing to create an unstoppable force of sexiness.

Chaewon was the subject of my first fic here and I love to highlight her transformation since joining Le Sserafim, going from the cute pie in Izone to the sexy killer of today.

Yeji is a perfect fit for stories where she's the dominant alpha woman and pushses everybody around her to the maximum. Love write about her.

Momo just fits perfectly for any mindless hardcore scene where you just use her hot body for your pleasure until you get completely drained

Eunbi is obviously my ult and the personification of a mommy. She hasn't even turned 30 yet but I already have placed her in my mommy pedestal and love writing any scene where she showcases her strong personality and big assets

I know it's very stereotypical to write Somi as bratty blonde bimbo but she fits the role perfectly and that makes writing any smut of her quite hot.

Last but not least is an idol that I think following the evolution of her will lead to some very enjoyable stuff to write about. Obviously talking about Wonyoung. I have done 3 fics with her already but I feel we're just starting to see her full potential. She's already a legend but is only going to grow bigger and I'm ready to register it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Bitches and Bastards, Witches and Wizards, Mothers and Fuckers. Esteemed robot enjoyers, I present to you a semi-accurate height comparison of Bumblebee across the multiverse (as of July 2024). This really helps visualize the truly staggering differences between universes, at least height-wise. Also, three of these characters are Canonically the Same Guy; guess which ones.

I spent way too much time on the chart in the back it's not even funny. I will probably make more height charts for more TF characters and universes in the future. Don't expect it soon though, because when I make these, I am fueled by pure I-Got-Bored-At-Work-And-I-Have-Decided-To-Fool-Around-With-Robot-PNGs, and that fuel supply is inconsistent at best.

Hey Fun Fact, Did you know that Generation 1 Optimus Prime is around 19 Feet Tall? Bet some of you already knew that. I have no ulterior motives for bringing this fact up, what are you talking about.

My height explanations are below the cut, because you couldn't shut me up if you tried.

In an order:

Gen 1 - ~10 feet (the wiki says greater than 3 meters so I rounded up to the first whole number because round)

Netflix Cybertron Trilogy - ~10 feet (He looks identical to Gen 1 so... the reason his photo looks weird is because I couldn't find a good full body photo with him standing straight up facing the camera so I put two images together to make the worst looking photoshop job you have ever seen)

Earth Spark - 10 feet (There is no confirmed height yet but using a screen shot of him standing in front of a barn door I was able to make a reasonable guess.)

Animated - 12 feet (I have no genuine source for this, I think this info is just someone's guesstimate, but it seems reasonable. He's a tiny two door mini car, how big could he be)

New Live Action - 15 feet (The wiki hath declared. Also do we have a name for this universe because we need one I don't want to keep saying like 6 words to differentiate this one from bayverse)

Bayverse V1 - 16 feet (This is like the first 3 movies minimum, I don't remember when he hits his growth spurt. also wiki my love)

Cyberverse - 18 feet (I'm gonna be honest, the only info we have is from a really shitty screen shot of a magazine. SO if any one has a copy of this book from the video below, a high quality scan would be greatly appreciated and I will kiss the ground you walk upon. Yes I found the video where the screen shot comes from leave me alone)

Bayverse V2 - 18 feet (movie 4-5 I can't remember which one, I'm not re-looking this up. I fucking love the bayverse tho, this is the only universe with concrete and consistent this-character-is-this-height info)

Aligned Cont. WF/FOC - 20 feet (video game info screens you god send, kiss me sweetly)

Aligned Cont. TFP/RID15 - 21 feet (I do not know exactly where these numbers were found, but I fully fucking believe them. Just by looking at these characters on the show I can verify these numbers in my mind. They made specifically this universe to be full of freakishly tall robots for some fucking reason.)

And for any one who doesn't know, the three tallest are the same guy. Like the 20 feet tall one and the 21 feet tall ones, same guy. The ones in three wildly different art styles and designs. Let that sink in...

Prince Lacroix, Lord Bullingdon, and the troubles of not being the right kind of a man.

Initially, only having seen young Leon Vitali's lovely visage in photos from the movie 'Barry Lyndon', I wondered if Brian Mitsoda attributing his inspiration for prince Lacroix to said character, meant it came from the overall vibe of Lord Bullingdon; a prissy petulant noble with a pretty face, quite fitting for prince Lacroix in appearance and attitude, but whether the game's writing was deliberate in its nuance regarding Lacroix's presentation or not, his character mirrors Bullingdon and larger themes of the movie, on a deeper level than I had initially believed.  

Spoilers for the movie 'Barry Lyndon' and 'Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines', from here on. Mentions of homophobia, misogyny, and child abuse.  

Prince Lacroix's capability as a leader is often doubted in a very particular way throughout the game. Specifically, it's his masculinity and perceived lack of it that come under scrutiny, often by those whose masculinity is unquestionable. He is referred to as 'nancy pants', 'prince priss', 'a fop', 'a powdered wig', and other epithets that have often been applied to queer men, and particularly, to men perceived as effeminate. His emotions are also ridiculed and perceived as embarrassing, and he is even compared to a 'little girl'. And except for Damsel, a woman who is trying to cultivate a rather masc image and a tough exterior, these insults come from men who view him as unworthy of reigning over them. And while their general disdain for the Camarilla is to be considered, they also clearly despise the fact that specifically someone like Lacroix could oversee them. 

Before I talk more about Lacroix, however, I need to turn to the characterisation of Lord Bullingdon, and his story.  

To give a (relatively) quick overview of Lord Bullingdon as a character - he is a child when we first meet him. He is described as shy, quiet, and melancholic, and 'much too attached to his mother'. As he gets older, he remains 'too attached' to his mother, always seen nearby, holding her hand, or merely keeping her company.  

After his father's death, Bullingdon refuses to accept his new stepfather - Barry Lyndon, and Barry begins to abuse him to beat him into submission. But despite Bullingdon's perceived 'weakness' and effeminate disposition, he never submits to Barry. This, however, does nothing for Barry or those around them, to see him as a man worthy of respect. His femininity bars him from that acceptance by 'proper' men by default, as his mother's womanhood bars her from being seen as anything but a decoration, compared by the narrator to a fancy carpet or a painting, in the eyes of her new husband.  

Barry cheats on his wife, spends her money without care, beats and otherwise abuses Bullingdon, but he comes to adore his own new-born son. Because, it is HIS son, and not a boy that belongs to another man. His son, Bryan, is spoiled rotten and he is growing adventurous, headstrong, and sporty, as his father would want him to and Bullingdon eventually leaves his own home, decried as unworthy of love by his own mother, whom he spent his entire life loving and protecting to the best of his ability. But his mother's happiness lies with her new family, as does her status, and acceptance by those around her. Being married and bearing an heir to the man by her side is important for her continuous enjoyment of and the approval among the high society, even if she is miserable in her marriage.  

However, after his young brother's tragic death, and his mother's attempt to end her own life, despite everything, Bullingdon returns home to take care of his mother and to get rid of the man who wrought them both so much strife. Barry is devastated by the loss of his son; perpetually drunk and now in massive debt after years of his foolish spending, as well as his failed attempt to attain a noble title to claim Bullingdon's inheritance for himself. He agrees to Bullingdon's demand for 'satisfaction' and is willing to duel with him.  

But, before I get to the duel, I must touch on Bullingdon's perception of himself. Bullingdon is VERY aware that he is seen as cowardly, and that he is hated even by his 'friends' who feign concern and sympathy for his predicament. Lacroix is also VERY aware of the fact that he is hated by everyone. Even if you pass the speech check and attempt to reassure him that people respect him, he won't believe you. He will tell you he's had his fill of sycophants, and he needs someone he can trust.  

Realistically, Bullingdon removed himself from a situation where he had been physically and emotionally abused since he was a small child, and he allowed himself to stop protecting his mother and think of himself. And he feels guilty for it. He knows that she is helpless and alone. Especially now, after the loss of his brother, she is completely alone. And he is willing to put himself in harm's way, to protect her once more.  

Bullingdon is a typical noble, on the surface. A caricature of one, even. He is soft and shrill and there is a sense of learned helplessness about him that comes from extreme privilege. But he still shows bravery and love that makes one sympathize with him. In fact, despite everything, Barry can't bring himself to kill him. 

Bullingdon screws up his shot and as Barry's turn is next; Bullingdon is TERRIFIED. He can't face his death head on, and he can't bring himself to look at Barry. He throws up from anxiety of anticipation of his impending doom. The men around him look disgusted and embarrassed at the display, as he is not behaving as a man should. But he doesn't run. He doesn't weasel out of it. He doesn't beg. He accepts that he will die. And then, Barry deliberately shoots to the side and doesn't kill him.  

Bullingdon is shocked, and he should be elated. But he refuses to claim 'satisfaction' as their witnesses suggest he does, and he shoots Barry in return, wounding him, and causing him to lose a leg. He doesn't do so deliberately, make no mistake. He is simply a terrible shot. But he uses this situation to reclaim his home and get Barry out of his life for good, taking his place by his mother's side, once again.  

The thing is, Bullingdon is not truly a coward or a weakling. He endures abuse from a man older, stronger, and more experienced than him; from his childhood to adulthood. He is the only support his mother has since she remarries, and despite her callous remark to him and obvious preference for her new family, Bullingdon still dutifully returns to her when she needs him. He IS a strong man in his own right. He is just not the RIGHT kind of a man who could be respected or looked up to in the society he exists in.  

Similarly, prince Lacroix is implied to have reached his position in an 'unnatural' way. He likely backstabbed, manipulated, and paid his way through, as characters in the game suggest. His accomplishments ARE impressive. He must have had no small amount of courage, willpower, and intelligence, to execute his schemes (as well as the audacity ;) ). But he is also not the RIGHT kind of a man. He doesn't throw punches and doesn't speak in a way that men around him are going to approve of. Interestingly, he also allies himself with a woman to accomplish his goals in the game, and they both play others and one another in a way that is traditionally seen as 'feminine', while the very much masculine Sheriff fulfils his need for someone who will instill fear in his enemies for him, in ways that he is unable to do, himself.  

His obsession with power and security takes a more interesting tone, if you look at it past a generic archetype of a 'power-hungry ventrue'. Whether he is weak or not, he is SEEN as such. He very likely knows WHY he is seen as such. And his over-reliance on domination likely stems from his inability to instill fear and respect into his subjects because he is not the kind of man these kindred would obey or see as one of their own. He won't handle your rejection, because he doesn't have to. At least, not anymore. He can make you submit to him, in his own way. Not with a physical beating or threats of violence, but by exercising his own will over you.  

It is also worth noting that Lacroix, who is open about his place of birth and his military service, does not name his sire to us, nor does he give any details about him outside of establishing him as a noble. And while I won't claim it was intended to be taken this way, I can't help but think of Barry and Bullingdon, and if Lacroix's relationship with his sire was more than a little strained, and if he felt that much like Bullingdon, he was alone in what he had to accomplish; to learn to play by the rules of a society that saw him as weak and undesirable, and find his place in it, preferably far above those who slighted him.

One thing that I dislike about Twst fanon (or fandoms in general) is how quickly people are to jump at one another for not sharing something that is a part of the status quo. I really think it's unproductive but inevitable for a fandom to have this, especially if the series is new/gaining popularity. I hope this message doesn't come as redundant

I’m not sure if this is referring to a specific incident but yes, that is certainly a trait that had become associated with fandom. I don’t know if I would say it’s more prominent in new or upcoming fandoms though; in my experience, it’s typically the fandoms that are already well-established that have opinions formed and dislike change or dissent. For example, when EN was first announced (and then again with the anime announcement), already existing Twst fans worried about the fandom being “ruined” by new fans (even though the fandom already had its ugly spots). I have also been talked down to and know multiple creators who have had similar experiences for expressing that they dislike certain popular characters, headcanons, or ships, things part of the status quo or whatever is largely accepted by fandom. It’s… not pleasant, to say the very least 😅 Of course, there’s also fans who will get upset and act out even if you happen to disagree with an uncommon opinion. It’s unavoidable, I suppose.

Like you said, that kind of behavior really is very unproductive. The people getting upset over differing opinions should realize that this is normal and expected human variance, and that this shouldn’t impact their own enjoyment of the media 🤷‍♀️ The only person keeping them mad is themselves for not properly moderating what they consume and not controlling their emotional reactions, which 💦 makes the mad persona also more miserable?? Which I do not understand. Why waste the time and energy being upset when we could all be so much happier sticking to what we love instead of going out of our way to attack what we don’t?

Turning Off Your Brain and the Critical Lens

Alright, let's start with this: there is a thing called a critical lens. It is a way of looking at a piece of art, examining what it's saying to us about itself or its subject or themes or whatever.

There are many critical lenses. Because this is something that's mostly only taught at the college level, most of them are (in my opinion) mired in academic language and not actually all that interesting in and of themselves: I think if you read a dozen stories through a feminist lens, you really start to think "okay, yeah, I get it". Different readings of different texts through different lenses can be great fun though, and it's one of my favorite parts of media criticism, and something that I wish people were more explicit about.

I'm going to talk about the Barbie movie, because it's easy. The feminist lens is obvious and in my opinion intended: it's the thing that the movie is most trying to be about, and as a consequence, it's something that probably has the most critical meat. But you can also read the movie through other lenses, and ask what it has to say about capitalism, about race, about neurodivergence and queer theory and game theory and a bunch of other things.

Some of these readings are Unintended. The author (in this case, hundreds of people working together on the film) did not intend for you to look at the movie to see what it's saying about, say, American Imperialism. Probably.

I personally enjoy unintended readings. I like teasing apart a book to see what it's saying about different things, and how it's saying it, and what the assumptions it's operating under, and whether this creates anything interesting when I bring a different set of assumptions. I think the writers and actors of Winter Soldier were not trying to say anything in particular about masculinity, but fuck it, let's watch the movie and think about it.

Sometimes people will watch something and recommend that you turn your brain off. Sometimes they'll say this to you just as you're about to start in on some critical analysis of something that definitely was not made with that critical analysis in mind.

Here's how I think of "turning off your brain": it's a critical lens. It's not a critical lens in the sense that academics might use it, but you're looking at this piece of media from a specific viewpoint, and that viewpoint is "omg they're in love" or "fuck yeah" or "no, don't go into the basement!". There are certain pop genres that greatly benefit from being viewed this way, at least in terms of pure enjoyment.

When I sit down to watch a romcom, I can do it with male/female social dynamics in mind, or I can do it with "aw, I hope these kids get together" in mind. One is the intended reading, and I don't think that it should get all that much privilege for it, but I do think generally it can result in better enjoyment. I love media criticism and consider it to be one of my main hobbies, but if you fall in love with one particular way of viewing media and only use that single one, you're going to have a bad time.

I write and generally enjoy rational fiction, which comes with its own lens, which I guess we can call the rational lens. If you sit and view a work through the rational lens, sometimes you can have fun with it: you try to work through the systems as presented and the actions of the characters and think about how you could make everything make sense. The way to do this that's not very fun is to look at a work through the rational lens and conclude that the author is dumb, the characters are dumb, and the worldbuilding is shit. I guess this can be fun if you have a sense of smug superiority, but I personally do not.

One of the things that I love about media criticism is that you can sometimes extract weird and new things out of a work. One of the things that I love about fanfic is that you can take a deliberately strange reading of a work and then write as though that reading was true. You can look at Batman and say "what does this say about income inequality" and then start writing and say "this is about income inequality now". You can look at Winter Solider and find a reading where Cap and Bucky are gay and then write it out.

Where I think people fail in a way that's personally annoying to me is that they take their preferred reading and then loudly claim ("ironically" or not) that this is the One True Reading against which no other readings can stand. Sometimes "that is not The Point of [thing]". I think you get that a lot from the "shut off your brain" crowd, but I've seen it from other places too, and I would attribute it to people talking past each other, sometimes not even realizing what critical lens they're using.

If you're talking to me, you can just say "non-preferred lens" and I'll understand, or maybe I'll say "wat" because I might forget this blog post moments after I write it.

Hinata Shoyo - gym teacher, middle school

he is the type of teacher to make you run 5 laps at 7 in the morning argue with the wall.

really likes his job and is passionate about it, man takes it SERIOUSLY. (maybe a little too seriously sometimes..)

he's a pretty fun teacher, changes up the lesson sometimes to make it more enjoyable

understands the kids a lot

i think he bonds better with middle schoolers as high schoolers are a bit too mature but elementary school kids aren't able to keep up.

likability: 7/10. (the kids sometimes thinks he is a bit too much, but once you get to know him more he's a really fun teacher)

Tsukishima Kei - Honors Literature teacher, high school

oh man. bad news.

he is that one teacher that assigns so much work, but also is nice in a mean way.. but then again his entire routine and existence runs on caffeine since he doesn't ever sleep.

he is the type of teacher to assign homework every single day, keep the kids on track, but he is really good at his job as he teaches really well.

i think his students like him as a person, but not as a teacher. he's kind of mean when he's in a bad mood.

insanely fast grader. argue with a wall. this man has no life outside of his job.

likability: 5/10. (most of his students don't open up to him because of his humor and his rigorous coursework, but the ones that do find him a nice teacher. honestly I think if it wasn't for him getting fired he would be a lil mean on purpose)

Sugawara Koushi - Preschool teacher, preschool

are you kidding me right now? this man was born to be an adult figure for children

pure angel I swear

the sweetest teacher ever.

the kids love him and he is very patient with his students

loves to host fun parties for his class, and takes class on fun field trips

never raises his voice, and gets the kids to listen most of the time.

parents, children, staff, everyone loves him, he's a pleasant, neat and kind person to be around.

likability: 10/10 (who doesn't like him is the real question)

Yamaguchi Tadashi - engineering teacher, college

honestly I'm not too sure about yamaguchi's subject.

he gives me history teacher vibes, but then again I half expect him to whip out 5 different languages and somehow has 4 degrees as if he's living too many different lives.

well anyways, if he was an engineering teacher, I believe that he would engage with his students a lot.

he cares about his students, and there is a level of respect, but he isn't close close with anyone (like they don't really make small talk and stuff like that)

i am a firm believer he is a SLOW grader.

likability: 7/10 (no one really dislikes him for any reason, but it's not like he is the favorite either so..)

Daichi Sawamura - History teacher, middle school

now this man screams history teacher

specifically history teacher, wears fancy shirts + ties, and has a wife and 3 kids type history teacher

but he is a very fun teacher, hear me out.

he would be the type of teacher to make all of the boring units fun by incorporating acting, watching fun documentaries, and making fun projects

assigns work every single day, even if it isn't a lot.

he would definitely change up the plans if the class seems boring, he really cares about his students.

he is strict at times, but most of the kids like him and don't misbehave, so no one really has a problem with him.. (he's terrifying when he's mad D:)

likability: 9/10 (idk I feel like he's very likable but that one point might be deducted for strictness)

Chikira Ennoshita - algebra teacher, high school

have any of you guys have that one teacher that looks like they want to quit their job? well that's him.

honestly he wanted to be a math professor at some college, but he somehow ended up at the high school

he would teach all levels to be honest

very good teacher, explains things very well, but looks like he hates his life half the time because he's tired

he just assigns work, and if the class finishes early he just lets them do whatever they want..

Asahi Azumane - orchestra teacher, high school

this man is a saint, the nicest and calmest teacher out of everyone

he is so patient and he rarely gets mad, he is very gentle (no one ever heard him raise his voice at a student before..)

genuinely loves his job, and grades only on effort

rarely assigns tests, but occasionally does

makes the class a very fun environment

many kids look up to him and admire his patience

really good at finding nice pieces

likeability: 11/10. no questions or comments needed.

Tanaka Ryunosuke - band teacher, middle school

honestly he is just cool

he would have a very cool band, and anyone taking his class is considered cool

prioritizes having fun over learning, but his class still gets a lot done

i feel like he would either play with the drums or the electric guitar

he would very vibe with every single kid, even if they are rude to him

likability: 10/10 (honestly I don't have much to say about him other than he's cool because he is..)

Kageyama Tobio - geometry teacher, high school

don't get me wrong, he's trying his best, but he just needs a little bit of guidance

Nishinoya Yuu - Chemistry teacher, high school

do I ever see him studying chemistry? absolutely not. I don't even think he would be a good teacher.. (no offense I love this man)

but if he did, he would definitely teach a very fun subject like chemistry.

he would assign a lot of crazy projects and encourage his students to be creative and run fun experiments/labs often

honestly a very slow grader, but he is not strict at all

Kiyoko Shimizu - AP literature teacher, high school/college

honestly this baddie only teaches the smart kids

she doesn't tolerate any mischievous in her class

the type to just send the kid to the principal's office after a few warnings (miss girl doesn't tolerate or have patience)

she is a very stern and serious teacher, so a lot of kids are intimidated by her, but she loves her students a lot.

the students that do have her do very well in her class, and they are the very smart nerdy kids

she's a quick grader, and a very good teacher

she is the type of teacher that can explain very complicated things insanely well

Hey, so I made this account because I thought it was the best place to reach you for this. I was able to attend EVO2024 and got to talk with a lot of the devs for 2XKO. I thought you'd like some of the insights I found based on your latest Braum trailer reaction.

When asked about the more pastel style for the new beach background, they said they were experimenting with slightly different styles for Bgs and seeing what fits (they also mentioned how the map felt like a breath of fresh air given how little moving parts there were in comparison to the others). They actually have a whole post-processing system in place for backgrounds to quickly adjust color values, shadows, and lights in case visual noise does become a concern.

You were also spot on with the difference in facial bone density between Braum and the other more serious characters like Darius or Illaoi. Braum was specifically modeled for that expressive animation fitting for a strongman.

Interestingly, a lot of the LOR elements from Braum's kit were actually a necessity in redesigning his move-set for a fighting game. Designers needed to come up with new ideas to fill in certain gaps in his playstyle, and looked to LOR and other media for inspiration. This feels a lot more natural then Riot forcing the homogenization of the leauge universes which I do not think was a factor in creating Braum afaik.

A final thing I'd like to add is there are actually very few animators working on the project (around 3-4). Since 4-5 champs are constantly being worked on at the same time, animators are constantly jumping from champ to champ as bits and pieces of each character's kits get finalized-- which I thought was a very cool pipeline structure.

Ladies of WOT - a potential community ?

Hello fellow WOT show enjoyers!

I am deliberately not tagging the show because I am aiming for a very specific demographic. Among those who watch WOT and are talking about it in different spaces (discord, twitter, here), I've noticed that people are having very different experiences watching the show, depending on what they want the focus to be on; to the point it might sometimes feel like we're in very different fandoms.

I realise the show is a book adaptation and I understand why people would expect more attention to be given to Rand, or Perin, or Mat, because those are the names who often come back, rather than some of the Aes Sedai who aren't as fleshed out in the book (I'm looking at you, my beloved Liandrin), but I have no interest in developing a sense of community with people who are watching the show for very different reasons than I.

I am absolutely not here for the men of the show, it's fine if you are, good for you but don't come at me. There are some men whose stories I enjoy following, but I'm here for the aes sedai, the forsakens (I can't wait to really meet Moghedien next season), the younger girls, the seanchans... and I would very much love to be able to share my love for the show and those characters, and to enjoy the show with people who share a similar enthusiasm.

Here's my issue, though, I find it hard to build a sense of community on Tumblr, interactions are limited by a very poor comment section, which is a shame.

I don't believe Twitter should be the main place for fandoms, because there's no room for in-depth conversations and everything has to be done quickly, It's more about posting and liking than engaging together.

I enjoy Dreamwidth and it would be, I think, a lovely place to build a community (besides, there is some WOT content over there) but I know it's not the most popular place, and it works more as a forum, which might lack the spontaneity of conversations.

Then there's Discord, and I am conflicted about Discord, on the one hand, it's convenient to chat and it can be well organised, on the other hand... I have wandered on quite a few fandom servers and they weren't for me, except for one. They're usually too crowded and I found that, in some places, the conversations are overwhelming in quantity but there aren't any real discussions.

As for that ONE server that worked for me, that one is quite special. You see, it's a small fandom of a show with a lot of wasted potential, but it's also the best fandom I've had the pleasure to join. People really interact, most of us know each other at least vaguely, we have a general idea of what are people's likes and dislikes, even when they aren't people we've chatted a lot with, and the mods always come up with fabulous events to keep the community living and it does keep on living, even after the show got cancelled in 2022. This discord doesn't have that many people in it, we talk a lot about the show, we also talk about specific characters, talk about ships in their dedicated channels, chat about our progress in our fic/gif/edits and support each other... people are interacting and we're all loving it. And those same people participate in fandom events because what unites us, even if we don't love the same characters or ships, is our love for that same show.

This is this sense of community built on the common love for a show and its potential that I would like to find for WOT, and more specifically in this case, about the women of WOT (but of course, talks about the show as a whole are always welcome and encouraged, it's just that watching with a preference for the female characters really change the conversations ones might have...) Especially with the new season coming in March, with all those new intriguing women that joined the cast, it would be lovely to have our little corner somewhere to chat together, as a small part of a bigger fandom, rather than individuals floating in the big WOT show tag and struggling to connect.

(And maybe those places already exist and I just haven't found them yet and I'm the only one struggling to connect. In this case, if you know places, please fill me in, I am dying to connect with fellow ladies of WOT lovers.)

So I guess that's it. I would love for us to get a chance to better connect, as show lovers (book readers are welcome, but please, be really mindful of spoilers, I am sick of being spoiled things even though I muted tags because people believe using emojis to talk is good enough to prevent spoilers, like we don't have functioning brains enough to put 2 and 2 together...).

To sum up my wish list: I wish we, those of us with similar interests (I don't care which women you enjoy in WOT, I love them all and they're all interesting, even if I have my own preferences I will gladly chat about any of them with you), could create a little corner in this big fandom so we can start acting as a community rather than separated individuals scrolling through tags. But a community who takes its time, to have nice little chats about the show and its women, to discuss our ideas and hypothesis, to share our thoughts and headcanons about our favourite ships (and yes, please, let it be plural and not just one ship) and characters, to support each other's in our writing, drawing, giffing, editing... all that, free of the drama that too often seem to happen in fandoms. A little place where we could always find someone who's up to chat a little about the show, and its women.

(Little place, because I really think once you're over 100 persons in a discord server (and probably less) it becomes nearly impossible to really get this feeling of a community).

So I'd love to know your interest in building such a place, and where you think it would be the most convenient for you!

Like Crazy MV Analysis Part 3: Symbolism and Thoughts

Thoughts on the MV’s Storyline and Symbolism

The opening sequence being our introduction into the world of this MV gave me my strongest theory about the plot of the MV. My main theory is that the Jimin in Set 2 is the present Jimin, attempting to recall the events of the rest of the MV. This is supported by the quote I’ve included below from the MV shoot sketch. He appears to be wanting to stay dreaming of when times were enjoyable, despite being aware of the underlying rot in hindsight.

Jimin says something interesting in the Like Crazy MV shoot sketch. I haven’t watched the movie Like Crazy, and so can’t comment on the exact scene he’s discussing, but he says that the concept used for the MV is a scene where the characters say something like the dialogue he includes in the opening of the song, which is back-translated in the subtitles of the sketch to, “You don’t have to worry, I won’t leave.” So Jimin himself says that the main storyline of the MV is a crumbling romantic relationship, even if it’s a literary device for a deeper meaning in the song. Again, a disclaimer: I am not saying that this is Jimin’s experience, just the character and storyline he’s acting out. He himself clarified that the MV was a dramatization with a lot of artistic license.

I’ve read the summary of the movie, and basically the couple break up due to an immigration issue, get back together and married, remain separated by the immigration issue, cheat on each other when apart, and then reunite to the open ending of a crumbling relationship. I’m assuming that this scene he’s referencing is either in the portion where the couple are getting married, or at the end of the film as the relationship falls apart. If you’ve seen the movie, please correct me if you’re more aware of what he’s talking about specifically.

The biggest and most obvious piece of symbolism running throughout the music video is the mud. Jimin says in the shoot sketch, “You’ll be able to see my room and my hand turn to mud because of a variety of emotions and memories”. He doesn’t specify what these emotions and memories are, so let’s look at what mud symbolizes.

Depending on the source, mud has a lot of symbolic meanings in literature, poetry, and dream interpretation. Given its placement in the MV, I’m going to focus on the negative meaning of mud and not the positive ones like rebirth, new life, etc. In this MV, mud can be interpreted as corruption, toxicity, stagnation, misery, or chaos. My best guess is that it is intended to be cross between all of these interpretations. The woman who pulls him into drunken escapism is not a good influence (corruption/toxicity), he becomes trapped in a cycle of escapist behavior (stagnation), this behavior gets out of control (chaos), and it ultimately makes him deeply depressed (misery). So the mud is intended to be the most obvious clue that this is not a happy storyline, and that there is an underlying darkness to the whole piece.

The piece of symbolism that I feel we as fans should be discussing more is the use of smartphones and the camera lens itself to represent the intense surveillance Jimin is under. This is the one piece of symbolism that I feel is not a reach to relate directly back to Jimin and not just the character he is playing. Even when Jimin’s character gets drunk and lets his guard down, people are recording and judging him. If he chose to make his character easier to play by also making him famous and surveilled in his private life, as Jimin has been experiencing for over a decade, that was a very pointed creative choice. Perhaps, instead of a visa like in the Like Crazy movie, the character Jimin is playing and that character’s love interest were separated by privacy and surveillance issues, or the difficulty of finding genuine romantic partners when famous.

I do feel that the woman we see briefly in the MV is intended to represent the female protagonist of the Like Crazy movie. The frequent scenes with Jimin wandering the crowd searching for someone, the juxtaposition with the woman in the crowd doing the same during the interlude, and the fade to black as soon as they lay eyes upon each other that felt to me like an implication of a time-lapse gave me the idea that, even if she is representing the escapist tendencies he was going through in the storyline of FACE or his reflection, she’s also a love interest in this MV. So I interpret their encounter as fleeting or unhappy enough to leave him having an existential crisis in the bathroom in the next scene.

The character also seems preoccupied with human connection. If we are not watching the character looking desperately lonely, we are seeing scenes of the kind of human connection that is ubiquitous for young adults in clubs and bars: short-lived friendships, conversations, romantic encounters, dancing together, etc. The whole video alternates between loneliness and needing liquid courage to initiate human interaction, which is something very relatable for anyone on the shyer side or who experiences social anxiety. My interpretation is that the character is not so much afraid of losing the specific relationship with the love interest, but is simply unwilling to be alone in a crowd or at home with his thoughts again.

The final device I’ll touch on here is the use of camera techniques such as blurring out the background actors, the thermal camera, and extreme color-grading to anonymize the crowd in the way memories become blurry after excessive drinking. The way the entire album treats drinking culture is powerful, in my opinion, because despite the prevalence of social drinking, FACE takes a fairly negative tone regarding excessive alcohol consumption. Every time it looks fun, we get scenes of loneliness and depression contrasting that glorification of clubbing culture. Jimin clearly feels using alcohol as a crutch is a bad, unsustainable habit, and he was remarkably frank for a K-idol on how bad of an idea it is to remain on that path.

Jimin was fairly trepidatious about how the acting in this MV would turn out in the shoot sketch, but in my opinion, the combination of his personal acting style and the excellent editing and direction teams he clearly utilized made a beautiful piece of cinematography, that illustrates the central themes of the song perfectly.

Extra Observations

I was aware of Jimin’s tendency to use his head and neck to emphasize certain moves in dance choreographies, but he does the same constantly throughout this video. I initially started a tally for the amount of times his head rolls around, but quickly lost count. It’s so effective from a storytelling perspective, but as someone who also suffers from chronic pain I was wincing in sympathy, because if that many head rolls made it into the MV, how many additional takes of rolling his head were there?

Did he intentionally include a left shoulder liberation in both FACE MVs as a bone to throw to fans?

Did anyone else catch the two books on the table in Set 2? The white one appears to be “Beyond the West:New Global Architecture”, but the only thing I could read on the cover of the grey book is “Atlas”. I think they’re nods to the central conflict in the Like Crazy movie being visas, because I feel that choosing English-language books with coincidentally relevant titles takes a lot more effort than finding Korean books of the right color palette and size.

Here comes my review (mostly writing & lore) of the Mass Effect Official Cocktail Book. I also included a list of all characters named with all page numbers related to their mentions.

I’m including this for our Andromeda Appreciation Week because the last part of the book is Andromeda-related :)

Introduction:

Cassandra Reeder is the recipe developer and Jim Festante is the writer.

The book is written by two writers in-universe. The first one is an asari calling herself “Ambree T’Sia” who is a lot like Gossip Girl (“you won’t guess and I’ll never tell” is an actual line in the book). We have to guess her identity but she doesn’t mind spreading a lot of stories about people and their drinks. 

The second writer is an angara called Roa who decided to add recipes to T’Sia’s existing ones, but more adapted to the Andromeda Galaxy. Roa dreams of a better world for everyone. He’s friend with Dutch and Anan from the Vortex.

Each writer presents drinks based on locations: bars and spots in the two galaxies. There also some snacks recipes as well.

Review: 

It’s hard for me to say anything about the recipes, though I will say it seems like there are different ingredients so a bit of everything for everyone. The difficulty can be adjusted: I thought some drinks looked really complicated to make (and some use other drinks in the books as base), but if you want to do a simple cocktail/mocktail, there are at least 10 good options.

Some recipes are directly named after characters or inspired by characters, so it might be fun to try some based on your favs. 

One drink seems weird to me, and that’s the N7 Shooter (mostly because of the mix of ingredients). If you try it, tell me what you think. 

Regarding American measurement: if you want to be precise, I would wait for a translation. Otherwise, I would get a cup and google some stuff before making it.

My review is more about the lore and the writing.

I found the witty tone enjoyable. I like that there’s a distinction between how T’Sia writes and how Roa writes at the end of the book. T’Sia gossips a lot but there’s no malice. Roa is very earnest and seems quite adorable to me.

You’ll see I wrote down all the characters named and the pages, sometimes it says something about the writer, sometimes not.  A good example: Samantha is mentioned 5 times by T’Sia. She finds her charming and young, and mostly links her to drinks and other people (a full EDI/Traynor-like drink is in there). Meanwhile, Drack is mentioned 4 times, Vetra 3 times, but Roa has an entire page about how fascinated he is by Vetra.

Regarding what we learn, lore-wise: not a whole lot. It mostly plays on what we already know. 

What we do learn has to do with some characters. Without being too spoilery, it’s very light and fun for the most part - like Joker and Steve having a challenge, Vega seducing T’Sia, characters loving specific drinks (like Traynor), etc. Some characters (like Kaidan and Miranda) are sharing their woes or backstory. Roa, in the later part of the book, talks a lot about Dutch and their meeting is very very cute.

My favorite anecdote is that Liam’s movie night spreads to the Nexus and becomes a tradition :)

Some characters are very absent while others are more present. I would say it’s logical in a way, but it’s one thing to be aware of. If you’re a fan of Jaal, there are no mentions in the book. Though, like I said, a mention doesn’t always mean a lot: Peebee is mentioned once but we learn nothing new.  I also found it a bit sad that Ashley is not in the book. Obviously, I’m happy to have Kaidan there, but Ashley would have been a wonderful character for fun anecdotes here.

a/n: we've made it to the end of 2024, folks!! and what better way to celebrate than by finally continuing this fic that i haven't stopped thinking about since i got that first prompt request almost two years ago. since the first two chapters were mostly standalones, i'm thinking that most of the continuing ones will be as well. updates for this story are not going to be regular and probably won't follow the timeline chronologically either, but we'll see what next year will bring. either way, this is already way too long for an author's note, happy to have you along for the ride 🫶🏼

One thing was for certain: Hugh Ransom Drysdale had always taken great pride in not giving a damn about anyone but himself. So far, it had served him well.

That wasn't really a surprise. His family had been throwing money at every obstacle they came across for decades now; it'd be idiotic not to take advantage of that.

And Ransom was definitely not an idiot.

That’s why he'd soon stopped begging for everyone’s attention and instead made them listen. If that got him into trouble, why would he care?

A Thrombey was untouchable, even if he had a different surname.

Whenever life got too boring, he'd find a new way to keep his mind from wandering, from wondering; his brain was kept occupied at all times. That's how he liked it—sweet diversions filling the silent gaps in his life.

This was just what life was supposed to be, wasn't it? Absolutely no fucking problem in the world that couldn't be disappeared with a healthy serving of dough before he was left to his usual ways once again, mindless and sinfully enjoyable.

Except …

Except sometimes a thought did make it through the walls he'd built around the most vulnerable parts of himself, the parts of him he'd love nothing more than to forget about. An unbidden, uninvited thought that stabbed right through like a well-timed vicious whisper, slamming him out of whatever stupor he’d put himself other:

Is that really all?

Usually, that thought was easy to keep down. It was quiet, after all, and the world he liked to live in was loud and vibrant and perfectly distracting.

There was only one problem: You wouldn’t leave his mind.

Ever since that night that’d ended with you in his bed, traces of you lingered all over his house. An echo of the sounds you made when he was rutting into you. The memory of your eyes rolling back while you were sprawled out on his sheets. Images that, no matter how many times he jerked off to them, would not leave him the fuck alone.

It was ridiculous.

You were nothing more than an intern, for god’s sake. Easy on the eyes, sure; real damn easy. But just a girl. A random nobody with the most beautiful curves and the loveliest eyes he’d ever—

Jesus, there was something wrong with him.

That was how he found himself at the party of one of the friends he'd made by being rich and handsome, drowning out any reminder of you with too-loud music and another drink. He'd not gotten high in a while but maybe he should text his guy again; that was usually a surefire way to turn off any coherent, unwanted thought in his head.

For now, though, he couldn't be bothered to make the drive. Besides, he'd come here with one specific goal in mind: He had to get you out of his system once and for all, and do it fast. Judging by the past couple of days, that was the only way to get his life back to the way it used to be.

Replace the delicious memories by making new ones. Better ones.

Better. Faster. More.

Ransom took another swig from his beer. It really was such a drag that all the women at this party seemed terribly dull. Not that any of them had approached him; all his annoyingly persistent musings had put a scowl on his face, and that had been enough for most people to give him a wide berth. This was just great.

It was true what they said: If you wanted something done right, you had to do it yourself. And what he wanted, no, what he needed right now was to be sucked into oblivion.

Just so that he wouldn't see your goddamn face every time he closed his eyes.

Later, he’d tell police that he’d been provoked and that none of this was his fucking fault, and as far as he was concerned, that was the truth. After all, he’d barely slept in days. He definitely wasn’t to blame for any of this.

In any event: Despite his earlier public session of self-pity seemingly giving him quite the disadvantage when it came to getting laid tonight, Ransom knew exactly how to turn on his charms in the right moment, and so it didn't take him too long to find a girl who was just pretty and willing enough to turn his night around. Even better, she didn’t look like you in the slightest; her voice was rough and she smelled like cigarette smoke and too-sweet apple cider, and her name disappeared from his mind as soon as it left her lips.

This was what it was supposed to be like, he thought as he grabbed her by the throat and pressed her against a nearby wall. Just a way to get his rocks off. He was just about to suggest moving things upstairs when his spine went rigid.

Someone behind him had just mentioned your name; your full name, so it couldn't be a coincidence, either.

Of course, that had nothing to do with him. He was busy right now.

But something about those guys talking about you rubbed him the wrong way and he couldn't help but continue to listen, even as he was still trying to stay blissfully distracted.

"—about me, the bitch, I mean, what the fuck," one of the voices said, followed by an echo of snickers and a petulant, "I know, right?"

That whiny little thought perked up again, and any attempt to smother it only resulted in him listening in on more of that conversation, despite his expressed indifference.

"—definitely sleeping with the professor—"

"—that stuck up nerd? Nah, she’s—"

"—honestly pathetic—"

Something hot and ugly was twisting in Ransom’s guts, and even know there was no rational reason for it, it had to do with the grating voices of those frat boys. Finally, though, he'd heard enough.

"Excuse me," he told the girl and not too gently removed her hands from his collar, not even sparing her a second glance as he turned and fixed his hair. Then, before he could think about it twice, he strode over to the group. "Who're you guys talking about?"

"This bitch in my microbiology class," one of them said, rolling his eyes. "You know her?"

"Do I look like I know her?" Ransom replied, and they all laughed as if that was a hilarious answer to a rhetorical question. God, he was surrounded by morons. With a tightlipped smile, he waited until Microbiology made eye contact with him again, mouth still parted in the same malicious grin, too drunk or too dumb to recognize the inexplicable ire he was staring at.

"Anyway."

And then he punched the guy in the face.

as a big enjoyer of suicidal evil characters i LOVE when fans actually put care into depicting jimmy... he's an awful human being but in a v specific and impactful way,... like pre-crash curly unambiguously liked jimmy and was closer to and prioritized him above the rest of the crew (that fucking psych eval... lmao...) which is RLY IMPORTANT to getting exactly how bleak anya's situation was...! anyways ummm i like how you draw anya and curly's noses. also that drink comic of yours is one of my all time fav  shitpost jimmys. that semi-not-joking mass death ideation + halfhearted backtrack is so choice

i think its valid to not want to depict jimmy, especially bc he is a terrible person whos done incredibly upsetting things that lots of people have experienced. but i think its important to not just label jimmy as a monster in general and then set him aside, but to acknowledge that hes a person that continuously choose to do bad things in efforts to self serve and shift blame, and that there is a method to his madness. theres a lot of really fucking interesting characterization going on with jimmy, and while he uses that all to be a shitty abuser, hes still a compelling villain protagonist. its a shame that this fandom is so hostile to any sort of delving into him, to even mention him, unless its surrounded by 300 warnings and disclaimers. understandable, but a shame.

the way jimmy wormed his way into positions of power over others due to the neglect of pony express and curly's desire to "fix" him, how jimmy had his talons deeply sunk into curly who just rolled over for him when it came to his assault on anya. how jimmy was able to use swanseas solitary personality and daisukes naivety to exert his dominance and desire for control over anya and the tulpar which he was never capable of handling in the first place due to his lack of responsibility and selfishness, which ultimately brought everyone down...oh that is wonderful tragedy. the trainwreck, the facade, the hubris, the unreliability. a big house of cards posed perfectly to be knocked over in an instant. sadly everyone knows an incompetent idiot who thinks hes the shit and makes it your problem, everyone knows the guy you have to warn new people about. not as fun when its in reality. but i think exploring these ideas in fiction can help prepare, notice, and prevent jimmys from ruining you and others lives.

You feel her body leaning into yours, her breathing slowly slowing down. Her heart still thunders against her chest, but her mind isn't racing anymore. She is relaxed, and completely in the moment.

For the first time in a long time, she is not worrying about the future or her past. She is safe in your arms, and happy as she can be.Your hands running through her snow white hair brings a comforting sense to Shenhe. Her body relaxes even more into you, her head resting against your chest, letting out a relieved sigh.

Her breathing grows even more quiet than before, her eyes closing in content. She has not been this comfortable in a very, very long time. "Enjyoing yourself?" Shenhe lets out a soft and breathy 'yes' sound as she answers you, her head nuzzling deeper into your chest in response. "Mhm," she answers quietly. Her words are little more than a whisper, her voice muffled from where her face is pressed against you. Shenhe moves to rest her head on your shoulder, her hair gently sifting through your fingers.

She does not speak. She simply exists in this moment with you. And in this moment, his mind is quiet and content.

This is where she feels most home.

Xinyan - If there's fire in your soul, you gotta rock 'n' roll.

Your body against her is warm and tender, like a nest of blankets. She buries his head into you, wanting your comfort. Her whole body feels lighter now and she is eager to spend every moment wrapped around you.

Rosaria can hardly remember what life was like before you. Before she’d known your touch. Your warm embrace, the comfort of your presence. When she holds you close, all the troubles of the world vanish for a single, precious moment. The memory of you lingers in the air around her like a perfume. Your breath on her neck, your fingers in her hair. Your heartbeat against her chest.

She breathes your name; a sound like a prayer, a plea. “My love.”

"Yes" you answer, eyes closed as you both hold each other. You're enjoying it just as much. "Stay with me." There is a softness in Rosarias words, a quiet plea that she doesn’t think he can survive being apart from you. She doesn't often say things like these, you're not even sure if she ever had asked you for something like this. But you aren't complaining.

"Please," she urges gently, hand rising to caress your cheek. "Don’t leave me alone."

"Never" Rosaria wraps her arms tightly around you once more. She is a woman made of stone and steel, but when confronted with your love, she becomes like a girl. A girl who has just been told that she is loved back.

"I love you." She whispers, eyes closed, face buried in the crook of your neck. "I don't know what I'd do if I did not have you at my side."

She breathes, then, "You… make me whole."

Mona - Fate is called as such, for it cannot be changed, nor can it be reversed. It can only but be accepted.

She breathes in, her body trembling in your arms. She is still in a way that you would never suspect, but her soul? Your fingers, your touch, your voice? It's as if they've been her guiding light in a galaxy of millions of stars. "Your touch," she breathes, her eyes still shut. "Yours," she whispers, almost to herself, breath soft against your shoulder as she nuzzles into your neck.

"I have so badly wished to feel it."

"You like it this much in my arms?" Mona nods, breath catching as a faint blush appears on her cheeks when you speak. Just now she realized how blod she actually was. "I am content." There's a smile that blooms on her lips when she finally opens his eyes. She is close to you now; your hands can feel the rise and fall of her breath underneath your fingers.

Mona’s body presses closer against yours, seeking comfort in the warmth of your body. The faint blush on her cheeks has only grown more intense as she stares at you, unmoving, her eyes searching your face, studying every inch of it once more with a deep reverence. As if she had never studied it in the first place.

"When I look at you," Her voice is a whisper. "What I feel… it is much more than content." And look at her now, hiding her face in your neck to stop your burning gaze upon her blushing face.

Lynette - Staying silent is beneficial for maintaining focus and gathering intelligence
