Colour Capabilities and Specs
PA32DC features a wide color gamut including 100% sRGB, 99.obe RGB, 99.I-P3, 80% Rec.2020, allowing you to work in a variety of reference spaces. It also has a true 10-bit color depth with 1.07 billion colors, supporting 10-bit content and ensuring smooth gradations. Asus Proart Displays are pre-calibrated at the factory to ensure industry-leading color accuracy, with a color accuracy of dE < 1. Rigorously and carefully tested to ensure smoother color gradations, and each level of the grayscale is carefully measured and adjusted to meet DICOM medical-grade standards. If needed, the OSD menu also offers a wide range of adjustments and controls. This model comes with a shielding hood that protects the screen from light and gives you even more control over your working environment.
Tumblr media
It is also worth noting that the display supports HDR10 and HLG formats for HDR content, and Asus plans to add support for Dolby Vision through a user-updateable firmware update around the third quarter of 2022. The screen has passed VESA's "DisplayHDR 400 True Black" certification. Multiple HDR10 features are supported, including PQ hard clip curve, PQ Optimized and PQ Basic, all to meet the needs of content creators and ensure compatibility with video streaming services in a growing list of games. HDR compatible. The PA32DC's HLG support means it is also ready for professional use in the TV sector, allowing users to view and create content for broadcast and satellite television such as BBC iPlayer, Japan's NHK TV and DirecTV.
Some people may be concerned about image retention and lighting when using an OLED panel. Asus has included the usual reduction features, including the ASBL setting called "screen saver" in this review, which thankfully can be turned off; and the pixel converter you'll find in most OLED displays. In addition to the usual panel features, Asus has included a proximity sensor to turn off the screen when you're not using it. An ambient light sensor can also help control the screen brightness better if you want to light up the closet.

Take Your Girlfriend To Work Day
Rating: E (it’s smut with a little bit of plot thrown in)
Fandom: Mass Effect Andromeda
Ship: Sara Ryder/Suvi Anwar
Summary:   Sara Ryder has Concerns™ about taking Suvi with her on a mission. But she's always wanted to show her the badlands of Kadara. What could go wrong?
Linkage: clicky
Note: Written for FallingOverSideways over at @spectre-requisitions-exchange. Now that reveals have happened, I can finally share this all with you!
-*-*-*
Sara would give Suvi the entire galaxy right now. The way she stretches across the tangled sheets, the light of a distant sun making her hair glow like fire. How the light glistens on her sated body, and catches in her eyes like the pools on Kadara. It’s probably why Sara sticks her foot in her mouth while her breaths are still ragged.
“I wish you had been there with me.”
Suvi’s smile vanishes and Sara feels it like a pain in her gut. “Sorry?”
Shit. “I’m not mad.” Sara swallows, pushing an errant lock out of Suvi’s eyes. “It just would’ve been nice to have you on Kadara with me, before the vaults went online.”
“When the water was toxic with sulfuric acid?” Sufi’s brow wrinkles like it did when she poured over the Scourge data, looking for solutions to a big-ass problem.
Just keep digging your grave and lie in it, Sara. “I mean. I loved the look on your face when you looked over the data I gathered.” Sara traces the line of Suvi’s swollen lips, smug knowing their romp made them that way. “It would have been even better for you to see it in person.”
Suvi’s lips twist as she bites the inside of them in thought. “I’m sure there’s still useful data for us. Maybe we could go together next time?”
“I would love that!” Sara rolls them so that her hands are braced on either side of Suvi’s pillow, and she peppers her face with kisses, imagining them swimming together in a hot spring, or a cold one, with bikinis on, or not. Drying off on a ridiculously large beach towel and licking that now potable water right off her--
“You’re going tomorrow, right? Maybe I could come with you.”
Sara’s lips freeze on the hollow where her neck meets her shoulder, and Suvi giggles at the slack-jawed expression she gives her. “Tomorrow?”
“Aren’t you going to Ditaeon to talk with Tate about trade?”
“...Yes.” Christmas Tate’s not what sets the Pathfinder's heart racing. It’s not his colony, either. It’s all the mayhem around it. Sara can all too easily imagine an eiroch crushing her girlfriend against a boulder or rylkor whipping her off a cliff with its tail. She needs to find a reason for Suvi to stay behind. Maybe she needs more arms training? Or they could wait until they fit her with some armor? Watch some training vids?
“Why don’t I go with you?” Suvi trails her fingertips down Sara’s spine, and suddenly she’s spineless.
“Sure!” Sara says brightly. This is a bad idea, isn’t it?
----
Turns out Cora’s not much different in height or build than Suvi, so the human commando loans her a set of armor, and a manual on how to care for it. Suvi walks around in it stiffly, and Sara would find it comical were it not for how the components accentuate some of Suvi’s best features. As much as she shouldn’t, not right now, Sara can’t help but imagine removing it piece by piece as she kisses her senseless.
“Worried about me, Ryder?” Suvi says as they make their landing.
The airlock disengages, and Sara looks around for any sign of danger. “Just don’t lick any rocks,” she says wryly.
“But--”
“No, Suvi.” Both her and Vetra say it together.
“Fiiine.”
-----
Suvi loves Kadara. Or maybe she loves being on the ground for a change. Either way, Dr. Suvi Anwar sits on her knees, scanning a small rock, and Sara Ryder can’t look away. The sun catches in Suvi’s flame-colored hair, making Ryder wish she had brought her here sooner. She aches at the soft smile on her face, the warm glow in her blue eyes. Ryder’s in the middle of pulling out her omni tool to take a picture when--
Sara. There are weapons warming up behind you. It appears they are aiming for you, Vetra Nix, and Dr. Anwar. I suggest--
“Got it, Sam.” Sara Ryder says nothing to Suvi, only dropping her in a tackle and ruining the picture-perfect moment. Actually, whatever exiles who were shooting at them ruined the moment, and the thought makes Sara’s blood boil.
Suvi squeaks from underneath her, but she doesn’t protest, especially after the first rounds hit the rocks behind them, and their shields shimmer with the ricochets. “Pathfinder?” she whispers cautiously.
“Exiles,” Sara growls under her breath. This is not how she pictured pinning Suvi on Kadara.
“I thought--”
“They’re still around. Still wanting to shoot us, apparently.” Sara shoves Suvi behind a bolder, and squats next to her, pulling out her pistol, and deploying her combat drone. It dashes over, firing beams at their assailants, the cool evening air warming in its wake.
Vetra looks at Sara sideways. “Really, Ryder? A drone?”
“What? Peebee showed me how to use it last night.”
Suvi glances between them, her eyes widening. “Sara?”
“It’ll be fiiiine.” On cue, the drone crumbles to the ground. Peebee will kill her later. “Well, shit.”
“We’re doomed.” Vetra sighs, powering up her assault rifle.
“Oh ye of little faith.” Sara switches to her shotgun, firing off shots while her biotics cool down.
Suvi giggles, and Vetra groans. “At least one of us is having a good time.”
Ryder really shouldn’t have brought Suvi with them. A little skirmish like this rarely fazes her anymore--more like target practice than a fight worth worrying about. Waste of ammo, really. But her heart thuds in her chest and her neck and shoulders tighten up at the thought of a bullet hitting the scientist next to her. Suvi’s so gentle, and kind. She’s not made for violence like this. Sweat gathers beneath Sara’s hard suit and her under armor, and itches around her joints. Her arm aches and her temples start to throb. Just a little bit longer---
There.
One exile remains, a sharpshooter with a sniper rifle that tries to pick them off like drops of water torture. Ryder ducks back behind their bolder, counting the seconds between shots. One Andromeda...Two Andromeda...Three--
Sara Ryder charges full force into her enemy, smashing him with a nova that sends his innards flying every which way. Turning with an adrenaline-fueled, shit-eating grin on her face, Sara looks at the boulder, craning to see the look on Suvi’s face. “Not bad, huh?”
“RYDER!  MOVE!”
The ground rumbles beneath Sara’s feet, throwing her off balance. Enemy Krogan.
“Shit!” Ryder screams as the berserker hauls her up in the air. Blood rushing to her head, Sara looks down at the battered Krogan growling up at her. “I thought I put you down already.”
“RAAAAH.”
“Shit’s right! I’m out of ammo.” Vetra glowers, letting out a litany of Turian words SAM can’t translate.
Don’t panic. Just grab your pistol and--One problem. It must have fell from her holster when she left the ground. The Krogan swings her back like a wet towel.
Don’t panic. Don’t panic.
Her biotics won’t fire--still cooling down. Ryder’s neck and temples still flare with heat.
Sorry, Suvi. I--
A shot rings out, and Ryder sucks in a breath, bracing for a bullet wound.
The Krogan drops her, and Sara rolls out before his body falls on top of her. What the hell??
Her eyes meet “SUVI??”
Nudging the Krogan’s body with her toe, Suvi blows the steam off the barrel of her pistol, and holsters it. She glances down at Ryder, a shy smile on her face. “You alright, Sara?” Suvi reaches out with her hand to help her up.
“Damn, Anwar. Didn’t know you had it in you.” Vetra comes out from behind the boulder, brushing herself off.
Sara doesn’t take her hand, too busy doing the math in her head. “Who taught you how to shoot?”
“Drack. He took me out on Elaaden. Said it would help my skills as a geologist if I learned how to shoot rocks.”
“Of course he did.” Ryder groans as she stands, checking herself for injuries. Her shoulder throbs from being yanked around like a rag doll, but other than that. “Anything I should see Lexi about, SAM?”
My scans indicate nothing but some swelling and inflammation. Though a visit would--
“I’ll see her later, SAM.” Sara has an idea. “Hey, Vetra. I think the Nomad needs an oil change.” She walks over, rummaging through the storage compartment for a very conspicuous picnic basket.
“The Nomad doesn’t even...oh. Yeah. I’ll get right on that.” Turians don’t roll their eyes, but the way her mandibles twitch, Ryder bets Vetra would be right now if she did. Swinging into the driver’s seat, she starts the engine, and Sara scrambles to get the storage compartment shut in time.
“Catch ya later!”
-----
“Do you ever miss them?” Their picnic long over, Sara and Suvi stretch out on the blanket, watching the sun set.
“My parents?”
“Yeah.”
“All the time.” Suvi stares out across the lake, and Sara gets the feeling she’s not watching the clouds change color.
“How did you find the strength to leave them?”
Suvi says nothing, and Sara wonders if she went too far as she listens to birds call in her silence. When she finally does speak Sara strains to hear her over the lap of the shoreline. “I couldn’t stay behind when there was a whole galaxy out there to explore.” She looks at Ryder, sorrowful, but without regret in her eyes. “I was miserable when I considered staying behind. My parents could tell. I was making them miserable with me.” A small laugh escapes her mouth. “It was them who told me to go. Told me they’d miss me if I left, but they’d miss me even more if I stayed with them.” Her smile slips away, and Sara would give anything to bring it back.
Think, Ryder, think. “Nice shooting earlier. You saved my life.” Sara runs her fingers down Suvi’s cheek, holding her breath as she waits for her face to change.
The smile doesn’t come back. Suvi pulls away, looking off towards Kadara Port. “Sara, I don’t think violence suits me.”
Sara drops her hand. “Oh.”
Suvi immediately draws it back to her cheek. “Don’t get me wrong. I admire what you do--the risks you take, the hard decisions you make.” She closes her eyes, taking a settling breath. “But I’d rather make my hard decisions in a lab, not with a gun.”
“I understand.”
Biting her lip, Suvi dares to search her eyes. “You do?”
“Yeah. We’re different. I’m better out in the field kicking ass, and you’re better in the lab…. doing...sciency stuff.”
Suvi’s laugh spills from her mouth like a bubbling brook. “Ryder.”
“I mean it.” Sara takes her chin. “I don’t want you to change who you are just to please me.” She’s already nose to nose with her before Suvi realizes she’s being kissed. And Sara wouldn’t have it any other way.
While Suvi’s usually slow to kiss back, when she does, she makes up for lost time, always. She presses in, already reaching for Sara’s hair tie, pulling her hair out of that perky ponytail and winding her fingers through her hair. The motion pulls Sara closer, tighter against her mouth and she can’t help but part Suvi’s lips with her tongue, grabbing the collar of her uniform in her fist, and holding her close.
Their hands and mouths move like binary stars, so close, but never close enough. Sara groans in frustration as her fingers roam across Suvi’s lab coat, searching for that elusive zipper. Suvi giggles, taking her hand and guiding the zipper down with her, her eyes dark with want. As the uniform falls from Suvi’s shoulders, Sara traces her tongue across her now bare skin, smiling at her goosebumps and drinking in her sharp breaths. Each freckle pattern forms new constellations, and Sara writes the racy mythologies to go with them.
In Suvi’s sighs and goose-bumped skin, Sara finds a paradise better than the Initiative could have ever hoped for. She unhooks her bra, and finds the path between her breaths, scanning the terrain with her eyes and making contact with her hands. Suvi arches into her touch, and Sara smiles against her skin. “You mean the world to me, you know that?”
Suvi opens her mouth, but her sweet nothing is lost in her moan as Sara’s lips close around her tit. She should really take her time. They have little to interrupt them here, with the Tempest far away and Sam scanning the perimeter for trouble. But it’s been days since Sara had the chance to make love to the center of her universe, and so she dives headfirst into the gravity well, pulling the rest of Suvi’s uniform down with her.
“I’ve missed you,” Sara whispers, trailing her lips down Suvi’s stomach.
“Ryder. You see me every day.”
“Not the same thing, and you know it.” Sara gives her a pointed look, and she can’t help but smile at Suvi’s parted lips. She sits up, running her fingertips up and down Suvi’s thighs, outside and inside, gently nudging them apart.
Suvi sucks in her breath, and Sara pats her skin as she leans down. “Breathe, Suvi. I swear the air here is safe.”
“Shh, you.” Suvi chuckles.
Sara breathes in the scent of her pubis mons, grinning wickedly. “Make me.”
Suvi’s eyes widen, and for a moment Sara wonders if she should apologize, but then Suvi’s fingers grip her by her ponytail, pressing her between her legs and it is glorious. Holy shit holy shit holy shiiiiiiit. She never took Suvi for a dominant one, but Sara definitely want to explore more of this side of her. Tasting her, Sara gives her folds those nice long licks that Suvi loves so much. Her pushup routine comes in handy as her lover writhes beneath her. Just as Suvi starts to moan louder, Sara pulls back to wet her finger.
“Is this too much?” Suvi asks breathlessly.
Her own mouth feels dry, and Sara reaches over to gulp some water from her cannister. “Not at all. Keep going.” She blushes at her own words.
Suvi pushes her hands away, sitting up. Sara blinks, watching her go. “Actually, I have new experiment I want to run by you.” Grabbing Sara’s shoulders, Suvi presses her onto her back.
Laughing, Sara replies. “Oh? What’s your hypothesis?”
“That you’ll love me sitting on your face.” Suvi’s cheeks redden as much as her hair.
“Mm, that’s hard to quantify.” Sara smudges her lips together playfully. “But we can try it.”
Suvi crawls over her, and Sara groans as her scent overwhelms her senses. She whispers her name into her folds, sliding one finger, then two into her warmth. Gasping, Suvi grinds against her, gripping the top of her head. Sara fingers faster and harder, sucking on her clit until Suvi’s nails dig into her scalp and she calls out her name.
The sun’s far too bright when Suvi rolls off her. “Holy shit. Holy shit,” Sara swears breathlessly.
“Mmhm.” Suvi kisses her sloppily, running her hand down Sara’s side. “And what are...mm... our findings?
Sara laughs into the crook of her neck. “I think your hypothesis may be right. But further tests are needed.”
“Mm.” Suvi presses a finger to her lips, looking up at the clouds as if the answer might be found there. “Perhaps we should increase our sample size?”
That notion jolts Sara off her back. “You mean like a threesome?”
“No!” Suvi laughs so loudly Sara swears the whole valley can hear them. “I meant you. Sitting on mine.”
“Oh.” Sara stretches. “Maybe next time.” She kisses the pout right off Suvi’s lips. “Right now, I want to kiss you while you…” She grasps Suvi’s hand, guiding it between her legs. “While you…. demonstrate your expertise on the subject.”
“Sara!” Suvi shakes her head in mock humility. “I’m hardly an expert.”
Sara leans over, stealing another heated kiss. “Then maybe you should…” She can’t help her laugh. “....do a more in-depth study?” Their laughs sink into moans as Suvi trace and probes between Sara’s legs, putting just the right amount of pressure to make her beg.
Suvi grins against her mouth, teasing her long and light, until Sara’s gripping her so hard, she swears she’ll leave bruises. Thank the stars Suvi wears long sleeves. “You like it rough, Sara?”
“Yes, please. Please.”
Suvi’s teeth graze the skin of her neck in reply, hooking her fingers inside her and beckoning her to come undone.
Maybe it’s minutes, maybe it’s hours later, when Sara’s always pushing Suvi’s bangs out of her eyes just to watch them fall again. “Y’know. I definitely learned something today.”
“What’s that?”
“I should bring you planetside more often.”

Witches & Witch Trials in History
Hex Positive
Ep. 3 - Hex Positive June 1, 2020 Bree delves into what it means to be Hex Positive, as well as discussing and dismantling some of the confusion surrounding the use of hexes and curses. Just what IS the Threefold Law, anyway? The answer may surprise you.
Ep. 19 - The Trouble with Tarot August 1, 2021 Tarot and tarot-reading have been a part of the modern witchcraft movement since the 1960s. But where did these cards and their meanings come from? Are they secretly Ancient Egyptian mystical texts? Do they have their origins among the Romani people? Are they a sacred closed practice that should not be used by outsiders? Nope, nope, and nope. This month, we delve into the actual history of tarot cards, discover their origins on the gaming tables of Italy and France, meet the people who developed their imagery and symbolism into the deck we know today, and debunk some of the nonsense that’s been going around lately concerning their use. The Witchstorian is putting on her research specs for this one!
Ep. 20 - Witchcraft and the Law September 1, 2021 A discussion of the history of witchcraft-related laws and how changing views on magic, religion, and superstition first denied the existence of witches, then panicked over their alleged activities, and finally settled into something resembling common sense. This is a long slog, encompassing over 3000 years of history from a broomstick-height view, and I get off on a few tangents where history crosses paths with modern issues. But if you’re a history buff, you’re gonna love this episode!
Ep. 21 - Witchcraft and Modern Law September 21, 2021 A follow-up to Ep. 20, this time dealing with modern legal codes that may affect our practices even if they don’t deal with witchcraft directly. There is also some discussion of 20th-century events missed in the previous episode, as well as a brief overview of witch hunts still occurring in some parts of the world today.
Ep. 22 - Bree and Lozzie vs the Witch Hunters October 1, 2021 Bree NicGarran and guest host Lozzie Stardust run down the history and many misdeeds of notorious witch hunters Matthew Hopkins and John Stearne.
Ep. 23 - The Name of the Game November 1, 2021 Bree delves into the history, myths, and urban legends surrounding Ouija boards. Along the way, we’ll uncover their origins in the spiritualist movement, discover the pop culture phenomenon that labeled them portals to hell, and try to separate fact from internet fiction with regard to what these talking boards can actually do.
Ep. 28 - The Easter-Ostara Debacle April 1, 2022 Bree puts on her Witchstorian hat once more to delve into the origins of both Easter  and Ostara and to finally answer the age-old question: which came first  – the bunny or the egg?
Ep. 036 - Margaret Effing Murray with Trae Dorn July 1, 2023 Margaret Murray was a celebrated author, historian, folklorist, Egyptologist, archaeologist, anthropologist, first-wave feminist, and the first woman to be appointed to the position of lecturer in archaeology in the UK. So why so we get so annoyed whenever her name is mentioned in conversations about witchcraft? Well, it all has to do with a book Margaret wrote back in 1921...which just so happened to go on to have a profound influence on the roots of the modern witchcraft movement. Nerd & Tie senpai and host of BS-Free Witchcraft Trae Dorn joins me in the virtual studio to discuss the thoroughly-discredited witch-cult hypothesis, Murray's various writings and accomplishments, and why modern paganism might not have caught on so strongly without her.

Ep 03: The History of Wicca October 06, 2018 On this episode Trae digs deep into the history of Wicca, and tries to give the most accurate history of the religion as they can. I mean, yeah, we know this is a general Witchcraft podcast, but Wicca is the most widely practiced form of Witchcraft in the US, UK, Canada and Australia… so how it got started is kind of important for the modern Witchcraft movement. (And trust me, there aren’t any pulled punches here.)
Ep. 28: The Burning Times May 30, 2020 On this installment of the podcast, we tackle probably one of the more controversial topics in the modern witchcraft movement: The Burning Times. What were the actual “Burning Times,” where do we get that phrase from, and what really happened? Also, how has this phrase been used in modern witchcraft? It’s a heavy one, folks.
Ep. 33: The Wheel of the Year March 27, 2021 After two fairly depressing episodes, it’s time to move on to something a little less bleak. This time around we’re talking about the Wheel of the Year! Well, at least the basic idea. Where did it come from, who slapped these eight holidays together, and are they really something every witch needs to give a crap about? (Minor spoiler, the answer to that last question is a firm “no.”)
Ep. 39. - Mabon and Aidan Kelly Sept. 25, 2021 In the last few years there has been some minor push back against using the name “Mabon” for the Autumnal Equinox. In this episode we’re going to talk about how Mabon got its name, who came up with the name, and why exactly a small group of British Traditional Wiccans are so mad about it. (Spoiler: it’s because a bunch of Gardnerian Wiccans are mad at Aidan Kelly.)
Ep. 43 - “Lilith” Jan. 29, 2022 As long as I can remember, people have been debating whether or not it’s okay for non-Jewish witches to incorporate Lilith into their practices. Is Lilith closed? Is it cultural appropriation? There’s so much misinformation in new age and poorly written witchcraft books on Lilith, it’s hard for some witches to get a clear picture. Like I’ve run into folks on social media talking about Lilith as a “Goddess,” which she very much isn’t. Let’s dive into the origins of the folklore surrounding this figure, and I’ll let you decide whether or not it’s okay to work with Lilith. But, uh, spoiler – I don’t think you should.

Ep. 54 - A Conversation with Aidan Kelly Dec. 31, 2022 Trae sits down with Aidan Kelly (yes THE Aidan Kelly) to discuss the September 2021 episode listed above and set the record straight about Kelly’s new Wheel of the Year.
Irish History Podcast - The Kilkenny Witch Trial of 1342, pts 1-3 Dec 20, 2018 - Jan 28, 2019 One of the most famous or perhaps notorious incidents in Kilkenny’s medieval history took place in 1324 when the Bishop of Ossory accused Alice Kyteler, a powerful merchant in the city, of heresy and witchcraft. This sparked a lethal struggle in the town that would end in shocking brutality. The consequences for those caught in the middle would be devastating.
Historical Blindness, E105 - Omens, Charms, and Rituals: A History of Superstition Nov. 8, 2022 If you’ve ever wondered about common beliefs about what’s good or bad luck and what might be a portent of doom, then this episode is for you. In it, host Nathan Lloyd looks into the murky origins of superstitions and the folklore it’s related to, like jack o’lanterns, will o’ the wisp, and the fearsome Black Shuck.

The Dark Histories Podcast - Benandanti: Anti-Witches & The Inquisition June 20, 2020 The witch trials throughout medieval Europe have become renowned for their relentless, brutal torture and widespread execution. Whether floated as a form of class warfare, patriarchal dominance, or religious persecution, the stories that remain are pitch black with their depictions of callous violence. Likewise, the legacy of the Medieval Inquisition is too one of severe brutality and overzealous, corrupt authoritarians crushing those with differing beliefs and lifestyles. Despite this, there is one story from history of a group of individuals in Northern Italy that whilst crossing over with both The Inquisition and witch trials, somehow came out the other side with relatively few casualties. So unbelievable were the stories that came from the individuals involved that the Inquisitors themselves wrote many off as simple fantasies in the face of their sincere admissions. Known as the Benandanti, this was a group of people whose story was truly one of the strangest in the myths, legends, and lore of historical witchcraft.
Ridiculous History - Brooms and Witchcraft, Pt. 1 & 2 Oct. 13-15, 2020 Most people are familiar with the stereotypical image of a witch: a haggard, often older individual with a peaked hat, black robes, a demonic familiar and, oddly enough, a penchant for cruising around on broomsticks. But where did that last weirdly specific trop of flying on a broomstick actually come from?  Could the stereotype of witches on broomsticks actually be a drug reference? Join Ben, Noel, and Casey as they continue digging through the history and folklore of witchcraft - and how it affected pop culture in the modern day.
Stuff You Missed in History Class - A Brief History of Tarot Cards Oct. 26, 2020 How did a card game gain a reputation for being connected to mysticism? Tarot's history takes a significant turn in the 18th century, but much of that shift in perception is based on one author's suppositions and theories. (This show has many episodes on witchcraft and witch trials.)

Historical Blindness - A Very Historically Blind Christmas Dec. 18, 2018 An exploration of the origins of Christmas traditions, with special guest Brian Earl of the Christmas Past podcast. (There is also some mention of Christmas witches!)
The Conspirators, Ep. 63 - The Last Witch Trial Nov. 26, 2017 England’s official laws regarding the prosecution of witches dates back to the 1600s. Those very same laws would also remain on the books until well into the 20th century. In 1944, a psychic medium named Helen Duncan would gain notoriety by becoming the last woman to be tried under England’s witchcraft laws.
The Conspirators, Ep. 217 - The Half-Hanged Oct 16, 2023 In this episode, we’ll explore some of the ways people throughout the 17th century punished accused witches. The host also guides you through the story of the Salem Witch Trials, as well as an earlier tale that helped inspire one of our most famous modern day authors.
The Poisoner’s Cabinet - Alice Kyteler and the Kilkenny Witch Trials May 21, 2021 Witches and heresy and devils, oh my! We are heading right back into the 1300s to tell the tale of alleged murderer Alice Kyteler who was accused of being a witch - and sparked quite the row across Ireland.
The Poisoner’s Cabinet, Ep. 132 - Halloween Special: The Pendle Witch Trials October 28, 2022 Sinead and Nick sit down to discuss the story of the so-called Pendle Witches. What led to so many people being accused of witchcraft in 1612? What crimes were committed? And why are all these names so incredible?
Wine and Crime, Ep. 253 - Witch Hunts Jan. 20, 2022 This week, the gals conjure up some tragic tales of suspected witches. MORBID: The St. Osyth Witch Trials (Mar. 15, 2022) Alaina brings us the true story of the The St Osyth Witch trials this week. It all starts with a "naughty named" woman, Ursula, potentially causing the lameness of another woman called Grace. Causing the lameness of another was grounds for being charged with the very serious felony of Witchcraft, and really it all went downhill from there. In the end fourteen were accused, two were hanged and many more died in prison.
MORBID: New England Witches (Sept. 12, 2022) Alaina brings us the stories of the first four women accused of witchcraft in Boston, MA. It gets pretty heavy, so at the end Ash will give us a little spooky witch’s tale as a bit of a palette cleanser.
MORBID, Ep. 496 - Half-Hanged Mary (Sept 21, 2023) In the depths of American history, there are few examples of mass hysteria that loom larger than the Salem witch trials of 1692. As horrific as it was, it was far from the only example of witch-hunting in Massachusetts’ history. In fact, ten years before hysteria over evil magic gripped the village of Salem, similar accusations of witchcraft were aimed at Mary Webster of Hadley, a small village in western Massachusetts.
MORBID, Ep. 503 - The Torsåker Witch Trials (Oct 16, 2023) When it comes to the horrors of witch hunts and trials around the world, Sweden is not often cited as one of the more aggressive or egregious nations. Nevertheless, the Torsåker Witch Trials remain a shocking example of religious hysteria due to the way in which they unfolded, which included local leaders defying the Swedish Crown and taking it upon themselves to identify, try, and execute supposed witches without proper authority. Moreover, while the Torsåker case may have unfolded like most others across Europe, it remains an outlier in that those responsible for starting the hysteria weren’t just held accountable for their false accusations, but were in fact murdered.

Both Man and Witch: Uncovering the Invisible History of Male Witches Sept 13, 2020 Since at least the 1970s, academic histories of witches and witchcraft have enjoyed a rare level of visibility in popular culture. Feminist, literary, and historical scholarship about witches has shaped popular culture to such a degree that the discipline has become more about unlearning everything we thought we knew about witches. Though historians have continued to investigate and re-interpret witch history, the general public remains fixated on the compelling, feminist narrative of the vulnerable women hanged and burned at the stake for upsetting the patriarchy. While this part of the story can be true, especially in certain contexts, it’s only part of the story, and frankly, not even the most interesting part. Today, we tackle male witches in early modern Eurasia and North America!
Doctor, Healer, Midwife, Witch: How the the Women’s Health Movement Created the Myth of the Midwife-Witch Sept 6, 2020 In 1973, two professors active in the women’s health movement wrote a pamphlet for women to read in the consciousness-raising reading groups. The pamphlet, inspired by Our Bodies, Ourselves, looked to history to explain how women had been marginalized in their own healthcare. Women used to be an important part of the medical profession as midwives, they argued — but the midwives were forced out of practice because they were so often considered witches and persecuted by the patriarchy in the form of the Catholic Church. The idea that midwives were regularly accused of witchcraft seemed so obvious that it quickly became taken as fact. There was only one problem: it wasn’t true. In this episode, we follow the convoluted origin story of the myth of the midwife-witch.

“Wicked Practises and Sorcerye”: Cunning Folk, Witch Trials, and the Tragedy of Joan Flower and Her Daughters Sept 21, 2020 In 1618, the Earl of Rutland and his wife accused three women of bewitching their family. They believed that bewitchment was the cause of death of their first son, and the long-term illness of their second. The women in question were former servants of their household at Belvoir (or Beaver) Castle near Bottesford, England: John Flower, a Bottesford cunning woman and her two daughters, Margaret and Phillipa.
Francis Manners and his wife, Cecily, were convinced that their family had been cursed, but historian Tracy Borman suspects foul play of a non-magical sort. Ultimately, the motive mattered little to the Flower women. Their accusers were too powerful to be denied a conviction, and they were too inconsequential, with too few friends, to survive a witch hunt.
Remember Rutterkin? Witch’s Familiars, Religious Reformation, and Sexy Beasts in Early Modern Europe May 8, 2022 Toads, dogs, cats, ferrets, rats, and occasionally even butterflies were depicted in the 16th and 17th centuries as “witch’s familiars” throughout Europe. A servant of the witches, whose purpose was to help them stir up trouble and cause harm in their enemies, familiars were particularly important in English witch lore. Some were conjured by witches, some sent by the Devil to tempt a woman into maleficence, some were supposed to be the Devil himself in the form of a common black dog. Whatever their origin and intent, familiars were not just background characters in English witch trials. They were presented as evidence and used to sentence hundreds, probably thousands, of people to death for witchcraft – in England. Not so in France or Denmark or Italy. It was only in England that the familiar’s significance was codified in law. Why, you ask? Great question. Let’s find out.
Cheesecloth, Spiritualism, and State Secrets: Helen Duncan’s Famous Witchcraft Trial July 3, 2022 Helen Duncan was charged under the 1735 Witchcraft Act, but her case was no eighteenth-century sensation: she was arrested, charged, and ultimately imprisoned in 1944. Of course, in 1944, Britain was at war, fighting fascism by day on the continent and hiding in air raid shelters by night at home. The spectacle of a Spiritualist medium on trial for witchcraft seemed out of place. What possessed the Home Secretary to allow this trial to make headlines all across the UK in 1944? That’s what we’re here to find out.

The History of Witchcraft Podcast, hosted by Samuel Hume Witches didn’t exist, and yet thousands of people were executed for the crime of witchcraft. Why? The belief in magic and witchcraft has existed in every recorded human culture; this podcast looks at how people explained the inexplicable, turned random acts of nature into conscious acts of mortal or supernatural beings, and how desperate communities took revenge against the suspected perpetrators.

Modern History - The Satanic Panic
(Please note that any report on the Satanic Panic is likely to include discussion of potentially triggering topics, including but not limited to murder, violence, sexual assault, and abuse of children and animals.)
American Hysteria - Satanic Panic, pt 1 & 2 Dec. 10 2018 - Jan. 07, 2019 This two-part episode covers perhaps the most mystifying moral panic in US history, the 1980s and early 90s ‘Satanic Panic.’ For this episode, Chelsey covers the rise of organized Satanism beginning in the late 60s, as well as the adversarial countercultures of the hippies and the metalheads, and their apparent Satanic crimes that would be hailed as proof of their evil, as well as proof that teens, as well as children, were in serious moral peril. Satan was allegedly hypnotizing the youth with secret messages in backwards rock songs, teaching them occult magic in Saturday morning cartoons, and causing suicides through a popular role-playing games, all while helping religion blur into politics for good.
For part two, Chelsey will cover what came next, a serious investigation into an imagined network of Satanic cults ritually abusing children in daycare centers all over the country. Chelsey will try to understand this shocking decade in history, why it really happened, and the cultural issues it was really about.
American Hysteria, Eps. 64-66 - Chick Tracts, pt 1-3 March 20 - April 03, 2023 In his own lifetime, Jack Chick was one of most prolific and widely-read comic artists in history. His company, Chick Tracts, published hundreds of millions of copies of pocket-sized bible comics, filled with lurid illustrations of cackling demons, wicked witches, and sinister cults, all hell-bent on corrupting any hapless mortal they could get their hands on. These tracts were meant to be left where they might be found by a sinner in need of salvation, with a scared-straight morality-play approach to Christianity that contributed in no small part to the period in the late 20th century we now call the Satanic Panic. (There’s also a follow-up two-part episode about one of Chick’s “occult experts,” who claimed to be, among other things, a real-life vampire.)
BS-Free Witchcraft, Ep 10 - The Satanic Panic April 27, 2019 The Satanic Panic of the 70s, 80s, and 90s shaped the Modern Witchcraft Movement in a lot of unexpected ways. Its effects still ripple through a lot of our sources, so in this installment of the podcast we’re digging into this extremely weird part of American history. It’s a bit of a doozy, after all.
BS-Free Witchcraft - Ep. 32: A New Satanic Panic? Uncover, Season 6  - The Martensville Panic Throughout the 1980s, Satanic cults were widely believed to be preying on children — torturing and terrorizing them as part of dark rituals. Across North America, there were hundreds of false allegations, scores of unjust criminal trials and countless lives torn apart. But never any real proof. By the early 90s, the panic reached the tiny Prairie town of Martensville, Saskatchewan. And nearly 30 years later, the people touched by it all are still picking up the pieces. So what happened? And why do so many still believe to this day?
CULTS - Satanic Panic miniseries, Pt. 1-5 Oct. 05, 2020 - Oct. 27, 2020 In the 1980s, “Satanic Panic” was a mass hysteria that consumed communities and ruined lives - all over things that never even happened. In this new five-part series, we’re examining the origins of the panic, tracing back through the decades to see how the fear of Satan’s influence in society swept across America.
You’re Wrong About... - Michelle Remembers, Pt. 1-5 March 26, 2020 - April 30, 2020 Intrepid hosts Sarah and Mike delve into one of the foundational texts of the Satanic Panic - “Michelle Remembers.” A young woman spends a year undergoing hypnosis therapy, which uncovers repressed memories of shocking and horrifying abuse at the hands of a Satanic cult. The book became a foundational text for both mental health professionals and law enforcement attempting to grapple with an alleged nationwide network of insidiously invisible child-abducting cults. The only problem is...none of what Michelle remembered ever actually happened.

This is followed by a discussion of the Cornerstone Magazine exposé that brought the facts to light and thoroughly discredited Warnke’s story.

Dig: A History Podcast - The Demonologist and the Clairvoyant: Ed and Lorraine Warren, Paranormal Investigation, and Exorcism in the Modern World Oct 3, 2021 In the 1970s, Lorraine and Ed Warren had a spotlight of paranormal obsession shining on them. In the last decade, their work as paranormal investigators–ghost hunters–has been the premise for a blockbuster horror franchise totaling at least seven films so far, and more planned in the near future. So… what the heck? Is this for real? Yes, friends, today we’re talking about demonology, psychic connections to the dead, and the patriarchy. Just a typical day with your historians at Dig.

Dig: A History Podcast - Plastic Shamans and Spiritual Hucksters: A History of Peddling and Protecting Native American Spirituality July 24, 2022 In the late 20th century, white Americans flocked to New Age spirituality, collecting crystals, hugging trees, and finding their places in the great Medicine Wheel. Many didn’t realize - or didn’t care - that much of this spirituality was based on the spiritual faiths and practices of Native American tribes. Frustrated with what they called “spiritual hucksterism,” members of the American Indian Movement (AIM) began protesting - and have never stopped. Who were these “plastic shamans,” and how did the spiritual services they sold become so popular.
The Conspirators, Ep. 238 - The Anthology July 29, 2024 In this special episode, host Nate Hale brings us three stories revolving around some of the ways magic and mysticism played a role in WWII - The Cone of Power, The Fuhrer’s Psychic, and The Astrologers.
History Uncovered, Ep. 117 - The Real History Behind The Mythic City of Atlantis June 12 2024 First mentioned by Plato in “Timaeus and Critias,” the lost city of Atlantis later became a widely-debated topic among historians. But is Atlantis real? (Spoiler: No. No, it is not. But it sure turns up a lot in modern paganism.)

tbh I've never heard about spec fic but it sounds super interesting! do you have any recs? or favourites? (both literature and movies) thanks and have a lovely day!
hello! I can and with pleasure! also you definitely have heard of it! I forgot to mention in the other ask that spec fic is more commonly known as 'Dystopia' or 'Near Future' fiction and includes things like The Hunger Games, Fahrenheit 451, 1984 by George Orwell, Divergent 🤢, etc. I just prefer the term Speculative Fiction because it allows way more nuance than 'Dystopia' but is a more specific term than Science Fiction.
Anyways, here are my movie/book recs
Children of Men (the book and the film). Both the book and the film are quite different but not in a bad way in a way that shows how one story sort of has to be told differently on different mediums. Literally my fave book and movie ever though.
The Purge Films - specifically, the original trilogy. These are considered pretty graphic in their violence though so fair warning. BUT I really love The Purge as spec fic that specifically looks at the intersection of how government sanctioned violence discourages class consciousness
Brave New World (2020 TV series) - this probably leans a little more to the scifi side of spec fic, but it's a watch you won't forget. I really loved it because it did away with a lot of the racism/eugenics untertone of the novel and just focused more on the social absurdity of a society where people are essentially products produced and raised by the state and traditional means of having relationships/raising children is prohibited. It's really funny as well as fascinating.
Never Let Me Go - either the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro or the 2010 film. Both are really great (devastating, stunning) and deal with a near future where cloning technology has advanced far enough that people are cloned and raised purely for organ donation. The story is from the perspective of the clones and how they understand who they are. The movie stars a baby Andrew Garfield if that encourages anyone to watch.
what I like to call Andrew Niccols holy spec film trinity: The Truman Show, GATACCA and In Time. I feel like if there was a director most known for this genre it's him. Truman and GATACCA especially are considered iconic films in this genre and their influence is undeniable
Soulmates (TV) - this is an anthology series in the vein of Black Mirror, but every episode deals with people living in a version of society where there is now a test people can take to match them with their biological soulmate ie your soulmate and you both share a "soulmate gene" unique only to the pair of you. Every ep follows a story exploring how different elements of society would change if this happened. It's written by Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein. The vibes are immaculate.
Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse - this BOOK is AHHHHHHH. nothing NOTHING is more powerful than Afro-indigenous fiction. This book is a post-climate diaster story about a version of so called America where the climate crisis allowed Natives to take back their lands. It's also got some nice fantasy elements because the main character is a First Nations monster hunter for hire called Magdalena, and she's my wife.
Night Raiders (2021 film) - speaking of Indigenous spec fic, this is one of the best films of the year. Set in a future where the government removes all children from their families once they turn 10 so they can be trained to fight in Climate Wars, it's about an Indigenous resistance group trying to rescue their kids from one of these training facilities. It's an outstanding film.
They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera - this book is a little divisive because a lot of queer folks just see at as Bury Your Gays the novel which is fair. However, I love it a lot and believe it's not as simple as that. It's set in a world where there is a system that let's people know when they're 24 hours away from dying. They never know how, but they know when. The book is about 2 young moc who fall in love in that 24 hours, but it's really interesting to read all the little world building vignettes of how a society that can notify people of their death would change. I love it so much it's like a speculative take of Aristotle and Dante
Reminiscence (2021) - I fucking LOVED this movie idc that it was panned by critics. Miss Lisa Joy knows the vibes. In this movie, Hugh Jackman runs a technological program called Reminiscence, technology which allows people to relive and project their memories with perfect accuracy. Nostalgia has become quite lucrative since Climate crisis has left the world to a miserable way of life (people can't go outside at all in the day, also sea levels have flooded cities), but the film focuses on Hugh Jackman trying to find a missing person using Reminiscence. I love it. Hate COVID so much for preventing me from seeing it on the Big Screen.
Snowpiercer - either the comic, film or TV series. All of them are excellent. I feel the show is the most fleshed out logistically though so it has the most room to actually fully explore how the whole of society's survivors being confined to a single train actually works. It's most described as a class allegory and it is but the TV series deals with that more intersectionally in relation to eugenics, race, sexuality. The comic/film don't do that cos they don't have the time but still are great class allegories.
I also reccomend Utopia (the 2013 tv series, NOT THE 2020 ONE) and Station Eleven (the novel) for some A+ spec fic. HOWEVER, they deal pretty heavily with pandemic paranoia and while I do love these stories very much they're quite Difficult™ to stomach whilst living in a very real pandemic so take care of yourself with those.
Finally, I feel it's very important to acknowledge authors like Octavia Butler, Ursula Leguin and Margaret Atwood who are foundational influencers and pioneers of this genre. Parable of the Sower, The Left Hand of Darkness and The Handmaid's Tale are at the roots of this genre as much as the works of George Orwell, Ray Bradbury and Philip K Dick. What I listed above were stories I personally love in this genre, but if you're looking to learn about spec fic, it's important to look at its pioneers too.
I feel like this ask is not the place for me to rant about my fave subgenre of spec fic: The Fertility Crisis Cinematic Universe, but I'll save that for later.
Honestly I'm still learning about and exploring this genre too so if anyone has recs or I've missed something critical, I'm all ears!!

The Witcher - Favorite reads masterpost
Tumblr media
Like much of Tumblr, I have recently fallen down the delicious rabbit hole of the saga of Henry Cavill’s abs in form-fitting leather, aka the tv adaptation of The Witcher. As always, that means semi-obsessive fic reading which in turn means recs! So, here’s a non-exhaustive, always evolving list of my favorite Witcher fic.
As of right now it’s...well, almost exclusively geraskier, because shipping is my primary reason for reading fics and also the Witcher (TV) tag is one of the most uniformly slashy ones I’ve ever seen, but there will be other kind of fics too. Hope you’ll enjoy :)
Tagging @nyliekeo because I’ve been saying I’d give you a rec list for a while and I’m finally (beginning to) deliver. Other stories will be added as I catch up with my reading and/or discover new ones.
Now with a Volume 2
Last updated Feb. 20th 2020.

the world will follow after - friendlyghost

When the Morning Light Shines In - QueenForADay
Specs: 2 760 words - General Audiences - Morning After, Lazy mornings Summary: Jaskier can’t think of any point in their travels together where he has woken up before the other man. In mornings where they were surrounded by trees, or half-way up a stupid, fucking mountain because of a stupid, fucking quest posed to them by some stupid, fucking man, he’ll always wake to the sound of Geralt moving around: whether it’s rolling up his own tent, or taking his blades to a whetstone, or fixing the last of Roach’s gear. He remembers Geralt telling him about not being able to sleep. Until then, he supposed, Witchers might not have needed it. Then again, until he met Geralt, he can’t say for certain that he knew exactly what a Witcher did and didn’t need. He can’t think of any point in their travels together where he has woken up before the other man – except for now.
The Knack of Acting Normal - KeriArentikai
Specs: 4 407 words - Teen & Up - Geralt is bad at feelings, but he gets better Summary: It's been almost two years since the last time he's seen him. Jaskier looks the same to Geralt. Maybe a little older, he supposes. Happier, certainly, than when he turned away on the rocks. [Geralt is sad. Jaskier is sad. And then after a while they are both happy.]
Weak, My Love, and I Am Wanting - TabbyCat33098
Specs: 2 443 words -Teen & Up - Getting together Summary: Jaskier has written a lot of ballads about some woman who has stolen his heart. The thing is, he's been on the road with Geralt for the past month. He hasn't had any time to court a woman, much less have his heart broken by her. So who is this woman? The answer may shock you. // “There’s no lady,” Geralt says. Jaskier trails off. “Well, of course not,” he says instead. “I imagine a woman would take grave offense to the frequency with which we give our patronage to brothels, not to mention your unseemly habit of bathing in monster blood and other revolting gunk.” He wrinkles his nose. “Perhaps I should write an ode to your masterful powers of observation next.” “But you were talking about a woman tonight,” Geralt continues, ignoring Jaskier entirely.
there’s not a word yet for old friends who’ve just met - theredtailedhawkwithjewelsforeyes
Specs: 2 469 words - Teen & Up - Not really a character death Summary: “I wonder,” says Dandelion, lounging under a tree- his lute is in his lap. Geralt is cleaning his sword and stealing glances at him every few moments. “I wonder why it is some people feel so familiar. I could swear I’d never met you, Geralt, but you’re- maybe it’s just from those old songs.” He strums a chord, and when he starts on Toss a Coin Geralt grits out a “stop it” before he can even think.
Where the Field Meets the Forest - karcheri
Specs: 782 words - General Audiences - Flowers meanings Summary: Jaskier has been putting flowers into Geralt's hair. He catches on.
Speechless - Silverynight
Specs: 1 371 words - Teen & Up - Emotional repression Summary: The first time Jaskier wakes up next to Geralt he tells himself it’s an accident, even though he knows it doesn’t make any sense. Of course he’s attracted to his friend (the witcher would never admit they’re friends because he’s an idiot, but they are friends) he’s been attracted to men before, however… He’s never actually slept with one before, only women. Perhaps that’s the reason why he hasn’t said anything since he woke up. He’s still trying to think about what happened. Not that he didn’t enjoy it, quite the opposite in fact, it’s just… Jaskier thought he’d never sleep with a man.
a broken pot can still hold water - MarionetteFtHJM
Specs: 28 742 words - Explicit - Jaskier makes Geralt grovel a bit. Summary: Despite what his outward code of conduct would have you thinking, Jaskier knows when he is not wanted. He allows himself the exact amount of three days of wallowing in that small town before he packs his meager possessions and hits the road like nothing happened. In those three days he sings and dances for his food and drink, fucks the pretty barmaid and sleeps off the hangover before heading out in the morning of the fourth day. He travels alone for the first time in a while but it’s alright. Now, if only people would stop telling him that the Witcher asks about him - that'd be swell.
Surprise, Surprise - Laylabinx
Specs: 1 732 words - Mature - Graphic depiction of violence Summary: Even in the dim light, he can see that Jaskier is absolutely covered in blood. His clothes are splattered with it, his face is streaked, there’s even blood in his hair. His arms are slick and saturated up to the elbow and the sharp, polished blade Geralt had given him before he went into the cave is still gripped tightly in one fist like he can’t let it go. His knees are drawn up to his chest like he’s trying to make himself very small and aside from his quiet, hitched breathing he doesn’t move at all.Jaskier blinks at him and his expression crumples just slightly as he stifles back a sob. “I killed them.” (Or Jaskier is forced to kill in self-defense and does not handle it well. Geralt helps him pick up the pieces.)
Opulence - QueenForADay
Specs: 7 237 words - Explicit - Praise kink, some plot. Summary: In private, and sheltered from the wandering eyes of stablehands, Jaskier presses a light kiss to Geralt’s neck. “Please?” he mumbles against the skin, smirking as he trails his nose along a tendon there. “For me?” Geralt turns, catching Jaskier’s lips in a kiss that, if he wasn’t completely aware of how discreet they have to be, would become so much more. Jaskier still doesn’t move his hands though; one on the small of Geralt’s back, and the other holding on to a forearm. When he pulls away, Jaskier tries to follow, but a barked order from one of the grooms to a nearby stableboy makes him pull away. “Siren,” Geralt sighs. He would follow Jaskier anywhere. The bard knows that. He’s abused that fact. But the city they’re heading to has a reputation; draped in gold with springs of silver in the main square, it’s opulence at its finest. And Geralt is pretty sure that, although he’ll appreciate the comfy bed and the nice food, he’s going to fucking hate the rest of it.
Here’s a safe place (to lay your heart down) - Some_Dead_Guy
Specs: 1 439 words - Teen & Up - Hurt/Comfort Summary: “My mother used to do this for me, when I got headaches.” Jaskier murmurs, his voice quiet and soft, “I was a bit clumsy as a child, still am now I’m sure you’d say.” Jaskier chuckles and Geralt can feel the puff of his breath against his face, “I hit my head a lot, and this would make me feel better. Not sure how well it works on Witchers but–” “Works just fine.” Geralt mumbles, and his head splitting headache has dulled to a barely there throb under Jaskier’s fingers. Or, Geralt has a headache and his bard comes to the rescue.
I spoke your name (out loud to the room) - objectlesson
Specs: 1 151 words - Mature - Unrequited love Summary: You wish Jaskier would leave you the fuck alone, but he clings to you like ash after flames have laid waste to a village, like clotted crimson after you have killed something with your bare hands. However, you can scrub blood out from under your nails. Jaskier, so far, has proven to be far more indelible.
To Sleep Perchance To - Sospes
Specs: 16 955 - Mature - Graphic depiction of violence, torture, PTSD Summary: Jaskier gets kidnapped and tortured. Geralt comes to rescue him. Except it's not quite that simple.
Scales and Songs - TeenyTinyTony
Specs: 4 640 words - Teen & Up - Siren!Jaskier AU Summary: Geralt had known from the moment Jaskier introduced himself that the bard wasn't human, but he had seemed harmless enough and Geralt wasn't one to chase something that wasn't hurting anyone. It was easier not to mention it.
Starving on Scraps of Kindness - penguistifical
Specs: 4 388 words - Explicit - Orgasm delay/denial, not entirely human!Jaskier Summary: "It seems obvious in retrospect, but Geralt didn’t realize Jaskier’s true nature until the two of them encountered a succubus."
Benefits - ShastaFirecracker
Specs: 3 319 words - Explicit - Friends with benefits, coming untouched Summary: Whenever Jaskier's mouth isn't occupied, he talks. Low, easily, about anything. Sounds to soothe. And the thing is – unlike all the rest of the time, Jaskier is pretty sure that when he talks while he's chasing Geralt's pleasure, Geralt listens. It's a heady drug. And yes, Jaskier is becoming addicted.
Sleepsong - QueenForADay
Specs: 1 643 words - General audiences - Geralt wakes up from a nightmare, Jaskier helps. Summary: Some part of him wishes that people could see this – the man that they all fear so much, the Witcher, a hunter of the supernatural and evil, placated by his bard’s voice, melting into his arms. All he’s missing is hearing Geralt purr like a housecat. Every so often, Jaskier’s ears prick at the sound of a murmur of a hum leaving the other man, particularly when Jaskier presses a kiss to the crown of Geralt’s head, or runs his foot along the length of Geralt’s bared leg.
And at the same time, he would gladly pick up a sword and kill anyone who even thought of intruding on a moment like this.
When sorrow sang - Ailendolin
Specs: 11 184 words - Teen & Up audiences - Regret, pining Summary:  Alone, with only his trusted lute as companion, Jaskier sat in front of a pitiful fire, strumming his instrument with almost absentminded fingers. His hands were trembling, something Geralt had never seen them do before, and that was startling enough to make him pause at the edge of the clearing, just out of sight. “I’m weak, my love, and I am wanting,” Jaskier sang softly, and his voice broke with so much sorrow Geralt could feel it in his very bones. After their fight it doesn't take long for Geralt to stumble upon Jaskier again. There's only one way down the mountain, after all. What he didn't expect was to catch him in an unguarded moment - one that changes everything for both of them.
Neither one prepared - Sevent
Specs: 10 050 words - Mature - Idiots who don’t know they’re in love, semi-slow burn Summary: Between the Djinn and the Dragon Hunt, Geralt and Jaskier share many encounters on the road. A collection of coincidences, through Jaskier's eyes.
look what you made me do - cicak
Specs: 6 569 words - Explicit - Farce with porn Summary: “Like that dandy has ever bedded a woman,” the woman at the next table scoffed. “All those sexy songs of his are about that Witcher.”
The Love of a Bard - SpaceSexual
Specs: 2 103 words - Teen & Up audiences Summary: "The pen is mightier than the sword - and so it would seem, is the lute." Jaskier's a bard, a truly exceptional model of his vocation. He writes songs that bring crowds to their feet and thinks his time spent with the Witcher has let him learn a step or two of his own. However, some dances require one step forward, and a few very rapid, fear-filled, paces back.
Priorities - Penguistifical
Specs: 2 590 words - Teen & Up - Geralt cares and so does Jaskier Summary: Geralt’s getting used to a certain bard's company, but he can’t help but notice that Jaskier takes better care of his lute than of himself.
Curiosities - Luddleston
Specs: 3 109 words - Teen & Up audiences - Banter, witcher biology Summary:  "Geralt, let me ask you a question." "No." "Oh, come now. It's nothing ridiculous." Jaskier does his research, Geralt is tired of all the questions, and the questions get more and more personal along the way.
Woodash and iron and leather - LokelaniRose
Specs: 9 874 words - Explicit - Mutual admiration - Mutual pining Summary: Jaskier is the only person Geralt's ever been around who doesn't smell of fear. Russian Translation here Korean Translation here
lay (not) your heart against him - theredtailedhawkwithjewelsforeyes
Specs: 1 368 words - Teen & Up audiences - Geralt of Rivia is bad at communicating, scenting Summary: He’s a brave man but the core of it is that he trusts Geralt to save him before anything ever gets too close. It’s- Well. Geralt thinks the last time someone trusted him as far as they could throw him was when he was still a child. Before Kaer Morhen, before anything. His world is a cruel, cutthroat one. He doesn’t know what to do with this unceasing, unspoken dedication. So he doesn’t mention it. Probably Jaskier doesn’t even realize what he’s doing.
The Ballad of the Bard and the Moon - Ravenheart
Specs: 2 605 words - Mature - It’s all about the YEARNING Summary: If the moon allowed it, Jaskier would call himself a worshipper for as long as he lived. And that, he guessed, was the problem. Because the moon could keep you company, but it couldn't worship back. It might give you direction, and you might even be blessed with its protection, but it would go its own way, whether you followed or stayed behind. Stubbornly determined to walk the night at its own pace, painting its own path. (Alternatively: Jaskier spends over 2k trying to figure out that he's in love with Geralt, and then he does something about it)
in restless dreams i walked alone (the sound of silence) - august_embers
Specs: 16 136 words - Not rated - Mental health issues, suicidal thoughts (but no actual suicide attempt), Jaskier is not okay sometimes Summary: "Geralt is able to scent the guilt on a lying man from ten feet away, to catch sight of half a pawprint in the undergrowth in the dead of night, to know when to lean back before the coming blade can cut through his throat.  Much of it comes from his training at Kaer Morhen, where his instincts were honed and enhanced, but even more comes from his travels and experiences while walking the Path.  Geralt notices things, because not noticing means death. He does not notice the lack of singing." Something is very wrong with Jaskier.
front row praises - The_Watchers_Crown
Specs: 25 098 words - Explicit - Porn with feelings Summary: The girl rolls her eyes at him. “If you’re just going to stand here ogling the witcher, maybe go and do it out of the way.” “Ogling.” Jaskier scoffs. “Who’s ogling?” She looks unimpressed. “Have you told him you want him to fuck you?”
Inspiration - CobaltCephalopod
Specs: 1 131 words - General audiences - Magic, musical instruments Summary: Between all the half-hummed melodies and scratched out words to be had over the course of decades, Geralt knows how Jaskier’s songs work and how they are made. He’s the subject of them, more often than not, and he can’t count the number of hours spent falling asleep to Jaskier’s strumming while he huddles closer to the dying fire to read what he’d scribbled so far. Or: I figured Filavandrel's lute probably has some kind of magic in it.
a fool by profession - besselfcn
Specs: 967 words - General audiences - Jaskier tells his problems to a horse Summary: “Make sure my horse gets a bath,” Jaskier mumbles, in a poor imitation of Geralt’s distressingly low register. “Who does he think he is, honestly? Man has one bloody popular song written after him and he thinks I’ll attend to his beck and call, is that it?” He gives pause for Roach to weigh in, if she’s inclined. She snorts.
i’ve never been there bu i know the way - theredtailedhawkwithjewelsforeyes
Specs: 2 525 words - Mature - Basically jaskier starts being competent and Geralt is like. huh. Huh. Summary: On the left hand of the noble, however, is Jaskier. His charm is turned up to eleven, and Geralt could swear he’s batting his eyelashes, and his voice is all syrupy-sweet. He squints at his bard to no avail- Jaskier is very determinedly seducing this damn noble. And what’s worse is that it’s working. Somehow, improbably, Jaskier is charming him through shockingly well delivered compliments and subtle little flattering remarks. It’s such a far cry from the stuttering, irritating bard Geralt knows that he feels almost offended, like this has been purposefully hidden from him just to pull out at the most fucking inopportune time he could possibly find.
Tinseltown - LaurytheLatrador
Specs: 16 545 words - Mature - Alternate Universe - Hollywood Summary: Back when Jaskier was a small town busker he hooked up with Geralt, an MMA fighter gaining renown. Now Jaskier's a musician struggling to keep his head above water in Los Angeles, while his ex is one of the most famous actors in the world. He never expected their paths to cross again, but there wouldn't be any stories if life went the way we expect.
Where there’s a Witcher - ghostinthelibrary
Specs: 61 278 words - Mature - Alternate Universe - Modern setting Summary: Jaskier is a twentysomething recently unemployed journalist and amateur musician looking for his big break. So when he’s saved from the jaws of a wyvern by the infamous Butcher of Blaviken, Geralt of Rivia, he comes up with a brilliant idea: he’ll follow the Witcher around and sing about their exploits. He’ll gain fame and fortune and Geralt will get a much needed image rehab. Everyone wins. Unless Jaskier goes and falls in love like an idiot.
The Witcher Wolf - im_fairly_witty
Specs: 11 448 words - Teen & Up audiences - Geralt accidentally becomes an emotional support animal Summary: It’s been two weeks since Geralt shouted Jaskier away from him on that mountain and Jaskier has been handling it like a champ by forlornly wandering alone in the wilderness with his lute. When he (literally) stumbles across an injured white wolf he decides to take a chance and see if he can help it, appreciating the irony of the situation but not quite realizing why it is that the wolf’s golden eyes look exactly like his Witcher’s... Inspired by @kayivy's lovely art on tumblr
home is nowhere, therefore you - Ark
Specs:  18 134 words - Explicit - Fairytales, love confessions Summary: "Right, well," Jaskier says, when he halts before Geralt. Up close, he looks much more nervous. There is sweat on his brow and his collar is damp with it, and his teeth keep catching on his lower lip. "True love's kiss. There's—ah—there's nothing to it." And he bends, the utter imbecile, and kisses Geralt full on the mouth.
Two Halves of a Whole - penguistifical
Specs: 3 450 words - Teen & Up audiences - Alternate Universe - Daemons Summary: Geralt doesn’t take much notice at first when the small brown bird alights on his table.
Second Refrain - Kenjiandco
Specs: 7 006 words - Explicit - Siren magic has unexpected effects on witchers Summary:  It’s been...Gods, it’s been more than a year since their paths last crossed. Since Geralt emphatically un-crossed them, one could say, outside another cave high up on a windy mountain top.  And here they are, trapped like a couple of treed cats in this little hole in a cliff face. No horse, no pack, no potions, no swords. Just a rapidly dwindling handful of dried meat, a useless hunting knife, a festering bite in his side that hurts much more than it should...and Jaskier, the surest omen that everything in his life is about completely stop making sense. Again. In which back-to-back encounters with a siren, a wyvern, and an old, old friend leave Geralt in need of a rescue. Just not the one he thought he needed.
is there a person more cherished - nowherebound
Specs: 629 words - General audiences - Just Geralt and Jaskier loving each other very much Summary: Geralt is the most fond of him. Fond, fond, fond… fond of his chestnut hair and sloped eyebrows, smoothed back by two gentle thumbs; honest eyes and sweet voice, bathing him in praise; slender waist and soft belly, perfect for resting his head on; petite hands, fingertips calloused from lute strings. How pretty, how divine, how lovely that Geralt is the one who gets to hold him, to love him. Yes, he is the most fond.
Food of love - tanktrilby
Specs: 22 485 words - Teen & Up audiences - Magical bard Jaskier, Renfri lives Summary: I brought a dead princess back to life through the power of song is the kind of thing that would have got an eyebrow raise even from the stone-faced Geralt of Rivia, so it's a good thing he and Geralt will probably never see each other again. (or: the one where Jaskier channels magic through his songs, and it almost never goes as expected.)
You Suffer Alone, Not Anymore - Sevent
Specs: 2 719 words - Teen & Up - Roach is an emotional support horse Summary: There's much Geralt is willing to put up with. The trials and tribulations of his witcher youth prepared him for a lifetime of cruelty and scorn. No one ever prepared him for kindness.
Guide - TenSpencerRiedPlease
Specs: 2 740 words - Not Rated - Alternate Universe - Sentinels and Guides, Protective Jaskier Summary: “Oh for the love of god Geralt, could you cooperate for like five minutes?” Jaskier asks as he pushes Geralt to sit on the ground. He doesn’t look impressed about it but if his ass wasn’t constantly going into some type of zone out or sensory overload this wouldn’t be an issue. They’ve already had to mute all the colors on the TV, it never plays very loud, he’s only just gotten used to sun light of all things and he can sit on the ground because Jaskier has long ago discovered that if he’s touching Geralt he doesn’t lose his focus in another sense so much. Geralt glares at him the whole way down but he does go.

Favorite Books of 2020
Okay, so I don’t usually year-end rec lists because I often get to media a bit late, and this year especially, I haven’t been great about watching/listening to things. But! I have been reading more this year, and I do love hearing myself speak, so let’s do a rec list!
I’m counting any book that I read in 2020 that was published in September 2019 or later (because I’m sure I’m not the only one who rarely reads books immediately after they’re published). About half of the 38 books I read this year fall into that category, and about half of those got at least 4 stars from me on goodreads. I’ve split this into 5-star and 4-star categories and put the 4-star books under a cut, but otherwise, this is in no particular order.
5-Star Reads
Gideon the Ninth/Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir - Read Gideon in May, read Harrow pretty much immediately when it came out, and I just have to say that Gideon was amazing, and Harrow was even better. These books are darker than tumblr made me believe, but they just are so well-crafted. I think in particular, if you’re the sort of person who likes sort of weird spec fic where you’re not always sure what’s going on, Harrow the Ninth is an amazing read.
Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall - This is a m/m contemporary fake dating romance, and my main selling point is that it is so funny. Seriously. I started laughing hysterically reading this book multiple times. But beyond that, I think that this did tap into something real about the experience of being a disaster gay in your mid-to-late 20s, and I really loved it for that.
The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow - This is a book that is about portal fantasies, but it isn’t really a portal fantasy novel in the most straightforward sense, so be aware of that going in, but it’s really a lovely book. The writing style is fantastic, the worldbuilding’s quite good, and everything came together in a really satisfying way. (Did I cry while reading this? Yes. Do I cry a lot in this hell year? Also yes.)
4-Star Reads
The Duke Who Didn’t by Courtney Milan - I love Courtney Milan, and I think this is one of her stronger books. Beyond the fact that it’s really cool to have the traditional Victorian England histrom setting but with Chinese leads and set in a town of mostly POC, this was a really fun, sweet childhood friends to lovers (and oops, one of them might secretly be a duke) romance. It was nearly five stars, and it will make you want Chinese food. Also has a really fun take on the “there’s only one bed” trope.
Axiom’s End by Lindsay Ellis - I really like Lindsay Ellis’s video essays, and I was not at all surprised that her novel was basically “What if Transformers was moderately thoughtful?” This was a pretty solid take on the first contact genre, and it also got the linguistics right when it touched on that topic, so it gets bonus points for that.
One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London - This book follows the first plus-sized star of a serial-numbers-filed-off version of The Bachelorette, and mostly this was just a lot of fun and a super fast read. Also did a pretty decent job of having an aro ace side character, which was a highlight, and it had a pretty solid cast of characters overall.
You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson - I feel like I’m outgrowing YA (especially YA contemporary), which is a shame, because I feel like it’s doing much better on the diversity front than adult romance/fiction. This book follows a Black girl in an Indiana town where prom is super important as she runs for prom queen and also falls in love with the cool new girl at school. I think I would have absolutely adored this if it had come out 5-10 years ago, but as is, it felt very YA but also very cute and fun, so I definitely still enjoyed it.
Beach Read by Emily Henry - Probably the best m/f contemporary romance I read this year (and I’ve been reading a fair bit of them for... reasons). This follows a romance author who moves in next door to her former college rival, who is now a literary fiction author. Since they’re both struggling with their next books, they decide to swap genres. I have a few minor quibbles with how they executed the premise, but mostly this was just really well-written, and the romance was really solid.
Slippery Creatures by KJ Charles - I love KJ Charles. If you like high plot/intrigue romance and have any interest in m/m histrom, please read some KJ Charles. I read a lot of books by her this year, and I don’t think this cracks the top 3, but it is the newest, so it makes the list. This is KJ Charles leaning very hard into genre-blending, since it’s as much a post-WWI spy thriller as a romance. (The first book doesn’t even have a HEA, though she’s promised the trilogy will.) Good plot, really great characters, overall a great read.
Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed - I feel like Becky Albertalli has become weirdly divisive lately, but I’ve never not enjoyed one of her books, and I really love this trend she’s been on of collaborating with other authors. (This is not to minimize Aisha Saeed’s writing here, it’s great, I just haven’t read her other books and have less to say.) This is just a really solid YA romance, and it’s exactly what I needed in April in the early pandemic days (and it might read even better now, since it focuses on a Georgia election).

Fic Rec Friday (5/22/2020)
Tumblr media
Spitfire By: @pinecovewoods
Fandom: Newsies Pairing: Racetrack Higgins / Reader Word Count:  2,600+ Rating: G Possible Triggers: A tiny bit of fighting and blood.
Summary: "You don't think that's them?" Specs whispers, trying to keep himself from being overheard. "I mean, she's from Brooklyn, and she took down the Delancey's by herself." "I ain't heard nothin' 'bout Spits bein' a girl," Mush replies, "but I suppose it could be."
Read It Here on Tumblr
Read It Here on AO3
Tumblr media
This fic is an absolute gem, you guys.  The tough reader that can kick everyone’s butt and still has mystery around her is such an interesting character to read.  As soon as I started, I was absolutely captivated by the reader and her dynamic with all the boys.  She could kick anyone’s butt, that’s pretty obvious, but she’s also just a kid that has the same feelings of hurt and fear and concern as everyone else.  It’s really nice to see what’s hiding behind the tough exterior.
Her anonymity is also amazing!  That’s really such a clever touch to add.  Everyone being afraid of Spits and not really knowing the truth about Spits makes her even more fascinating and makes her position in Brooklyn even more cool.  And, honestly, I could read about a badass girlsie all day long (and daydream that I could ever be so tough).
There’s also a twist @pinecovewoods throws in about Race’s background that I absolutely adore!  I’m all here for (spoilers ahead!) Brooklyn born Race going back and forth between Brooklyn and Manhattan in his youth.  It makes his loyalties to Jack and the Manhattan newsies make even more sense and explains his quick to jump nature.  The whole headcanon is one I’m absolutely here for.
The writer also creates the accents so well!  It’s written just enough to see the accents well and notice their differences, but not so much that it’s distracting or difficult to read.  And, I may be a little biased, but the accents are absolutely amazing so it’s always lovely to see them included and written well.  But it’s not just the accents!  All of the dialogue is written wonderfully and the characterizations are fantastic!  Jack’s sass, Race’s nervousness, the reader’s defensiveness, it’s all written so well with so many little details that bring us back to their emotions.  We get to infer and understand what’s going on just from the way they behave, their nervous ticks, and that’s such a delight to read.
And the ending line?  Who can’t love the ending lines???  Talk about kick butt!  Compassion and strength all wrapped up in one!  Brilliant!
All in all, this fic is absolutely 100% worth reading.  I could honestly read about Spitfire all day long; her backstory and Races are both so interesting.  If you’re looking for something from the Newsies to read, I highly recommend this fic.  And, of course, if you’re wanting to feel a little more like a badass, I’m sure this reader insert will certainly do the trick!  It’s definitely a story that deserves all the love.

Happy first BFSN of 2020! And the year of the last season!!! I’m feeling a bit nostalgic about all of it tbh, I’ve rarely ever watched a show to it’s finale while it’s live (we don’t talk about Game of Thrones lol) so this feels really cool. I still remember randomly stumbling upon The 100 on Netflix a couple of years ago while trying to find something to watch while I wrapped Christmas presents. I immediately fell in love with all of the characters and the story. And now here we are!
I can’t wait to create more content this year! With the season EVENTUALLY coming (where is our trailer???) I suppose I should work on my canon-spec Bellarke fic asap asdfkls. I’ve also been so blown away by the response to my arranged marriage/royalty AU, “Traces of You,” so far!!! I’m currently restructuring the next chapters so we’ll see where it ends up soon. I’m also still plugging away with my rewatch gif set series – I’m aiming to be done by the new season!
I’ll have some more fic recs soon! I’ve been training for my first half-marathon (it’s this weekend AH) so I’ve been a bit scattered. I’m also editing my gif tutorial for my 1k celebration as well! 2020 is off to a busy, productive start which is exactly what I was hoping for!
The world is in a rough spot right now so remember to love yourself and to be kind to others while we navigate all of this. Do what you can to help others and to protect your circle. Love y’all 🖤

Seven comfort movies/shows
Tagged by @textsfromumbridge
A bit late, but I’m finally doing it, because my Pookie tagged me <3
1. Star Wars I - VI
I’ve been a Star Wars fan for over 15 years now. I’ve delved deep into the lore and have spent many a lonely nights reading about lightsaber dueling forms (Jar’Kai FTW) and designing my own light freighter a la Millennium Falcon (yes, tech specs et all).
Then Disney decided to fuck everything up and I am now too disillusioned with the franchise to go beyond my current knowledge, though I still read up on ‘Legends’ trivia every now and then. But the real original Star Wars films will always mean a great deal to me.
2. Sherlock (BBC)
Listen. LISTEN! A curly dark haired Benedict Cumberbatch acting his ass off and looking damn fine doing it is my SHIT! Also, fucking Sherlolly killing me with OTP delights! It really is a great show, and damn fun.
3. Les Miserables (2012)
For those who know me, need I explain myself? And even if I tried, I don’t think there are words to describe my love for Les Mis. (Also, Enjonine) And yes, 8 years later and I am still a hardcore fan.
4.  Princess Bride
This movie just makes me happy. Y’all know why, don’t pretend like you don’t know what I’m talking about.
5. Pride and Prejudice (1995)
The BEST P&P version out there. It’s perfection. Fight me on this! Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy tickles my loins like nothing else, I tell you.
6.  How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)
Yes, I know this is a Christmas movie, but I watch it every year on Christmas Eve. No exceptions. Also, I cry at the end every. damn. year!
7. Emma (2020)
Newest addition to my comfort movie list. I LOVED this movie! It was so much fun and colorful and just a complete DELIGHT! If you haven’t seen it yet, please do so. It’s amazing.
I probably have a lot more shows and films that give me comfort, but tbh, these are the ones that came to mind. Though I prefer reading nowadays, it’s still nice to re-watch some of these every now and then.
Thank you @textsfromumbridge for tagging me, I love you!
I’m not gonna tag anyone, because I haven’t been very active on tumblr for a while and everyone has changed their usernames and I am very confused. But please pick this up even if you are not tagged, who knows, one of your recs might become someone else’s comfort, and that’s something we need right now.

no one will win this time by @alexiablackbriar13 | Arrow | One-shot
Summary: Canon divergent from COIE Part 5.Instead of targeting the Paragons, the pissed-off Anti-Monitor sends shadow demons after Oliver’s loved ones. Realizing two of the people Oliver loves most are vulnerable currently out in Bloomfield, dealing with the archer’s death, Sara rushes to protect Felicity and baby Mia, and bring them back to Star City so they can keep them safe.

Spec Recs 2020 Clarification Post #1
Please change these nominations to be more specific. Failure to change these nominations by the final day of nominations (January 19) will result in them being declined!
Avitus Rix & Ryder – Please clarify which Ryder are you requesting: Female Ryder | Sara, Male Ryder | Scott, Ellen, or Alec
Illusive Man | Jack Harper/Shepard - Please clarify whether you want Male Shepard or Female Shepard.
Kai Leng/Shepard Clone - Please clarify whether you want Male Shepard or Female Shepard.
Miranda Lawson/Original Character(s) - Please clarify which kind of original character is desired, eg Miranda Lawson/Five Batarian Soldiers, Miranda Lawson/Female Alliance Recruit, etc.
Miranda Lawson/Miranda Lawson's Rogueishly Handsome Trans Clone - Please specify which gender the clone is.
As a clarification note for trans characters, please nominate trans characters under the gender identity that is preferred by/for the character (ex: for a trans! female Shepard that was assigned male at birth but is/identifies as female, please use "Female Shepard"). To ensure the character is seen as trans, please write in optional details that you would prefer to see this character as trans and DNW: non-trans/cis interpretations of [Character]. We do not use the "Trans [Character]" label firstly because we do not believe a trans character should be segregated from other characters of their chosen gender, and secondly because this allows a wider potential range of possible trans characters - by leaving it in optional details, any character can be seen as trans.
