This is a great original blue and white enamelware bread bin or bread box from England that dates to the 1890-1920 during the late Victorian or Edwardian eras in a rare blue spatterware or blue graniteware color.

The spatterware or marbled enamel bread box has indented white letters, applied strap handles, black trim and a white enamel interior. The antique shabby and chippy enamel bread bin measures 13 inch high with handle by 13.5 wide by 9.75 deep.

DIY doll camp stove

Let’s check in with Antonia! Here she is at breakfast in her campsite at Arches National Park. 

She and her grandparents are visiting many different national parks in their RV, although Antonia prefers to sleep outside in her little pup tent. But the whole family cooks and eats outside, and today it’s Antonia’s turn to make pancakes, eggs, oatmeal, and coffee.

Here’s the detail on her camp stove. I made it myself from thick pieces of scavenged Styrofoam, some baking soda-cornstarch clay mortar, paint, wooden dowels for the iron grate, painted wire for the iron hooks, and it’s all covered in stones and held together with hot glue. The wooden logs inside are just gathered sticks (please try to pretend there’s a fire in there; I didn’t want to expose any of this to real flames). The dishes are from a Dollar Tree set as well as some trimmed-down measuring cups. I painted all but one of them blue to imitate vintage spatterware. 

I modeled it after Maryellen Larkin’s camp stove that American Girl sells for $50. The whole set reminded me so much of dishes my own parents used when I was a kid and went camping with them, and the stove looks so much like the old ones that national parks used to have before widespread drought across the mountain west made fires so dangerous. I seriously pined after that camp stove. 

But I thought that was way too much to pay for some plastic, and it wasn’t at all proportional to a child, so I decided I would make my own. 

First I cut down the piece of Styrofoam, which the wind had blown into my yard, into four pieces. I glued them together using hot glue. Then I mixed up a mixture of cooked baking soda-cornstarch clay, kneaded gray paint into it, and got it good and wet. I slathered it onto the foam pieces, then pressed stones into it and let it dry. For the grate, I painted and trimmed down some wooden dowels and glued them into a grate pattern. Then I cut down some thick wire, painted it black, and glued that onto the grate.  

I spent no more than a few bucks for all the materials. It was much easier than I thought it would be, and I’m pleased with how it turned out. 

So is Antonia! Here she is checking on the pancakes. 

I also made her camp chair from painted craft sticks and hot glue from a tutorial on the American Girl Ideas YouTube channel. Her tent is Our Generation brand, and her outfit is from American Girl.

Looks like it’s ready to eat!

Her plate is a Mason jar lid that I painted. Her fork is from some historical character’s set I think? and her pancake is made of painted clay. For the syrup topping I mixed food coloring with some clear gel Tacky glue and carefully drizzled it on top. Her mug is some kind of measuring scoop that I found in the dish section of the thrift store. I removed the plastic handle by heating it with a glue gun and snapping it off. The curved mug handle is a piece of rubber I glued on and painted. 

More coffee! Antonia drinks decaf, but having coffee with breakfast makes her feel very grown-up. 

There’s nothing so refreshing as breakfast outside. Now it’s time to pack up camp, and you’ll hear from her next from Great Basin National Park in Nevada!
