spartansandkrakens replied to your post “just wanna say thanks for all the posts about smush face dogs! I was...”
From the (brief) reading ive done (mostly around scotties, which have something like a 50/50 c-section/natural rate, maybe over) it seems like typical c-section breeds tend to have multipe factors playing in? ie broad head is one factor, but it appears to often be paired with birth canal defects or pelvic issues. but those tend to not be visible, ofc, so i guess it makes sense that the head shape is the reason that people remember and talk about.
Yeah there’s other problems too as well, plain genetics and stress on the mother and size of the puppies compared to the mother and more. People tend to focus on head shape and size, and yet forget that problems can occur simply because the mother was stressed and new and doesn’t know how to deliver in the first place. I saw someone posting a correlation once between bitches who are shown frequently (in any sport) and bitches that cannot deliver properly and have a hard time conceiving and staying pregnant... that’s all stress induced, so these factors have to be considered too.

God I feel u on the job thing 😂 Ask for advice and they tell u only 1 in 30 get a job in our field, and those of us with degrees in it are just sitting around twiddling our thumbs and waiting for the older generation currently hogging all the work to retire or kick the bucket. It is what it is 🤷♂️
Yep! And it sucks. I certainly don't want to not go back to school and get a degree. I enjoy learning and I want to do something new and I want a bit of a challenge and I certainly won't get that if I keep working at a gas station. These old people need to retire already and let the young people in. It's getting ridiculous already.

Hi! I hope you don't mind getting another age-related question. I saw you post that you thought Cinnabar was at least 8 months old when you got him, and wonder if there are more ways to gauge age than growth? Similarly, I got my betta (metallic halfmoon kinda thing, my first indoor fish!) in Sept '17 and he hasn't grown since, but has had ongoing fin issues so they're not really helping. Also: I remember when you got Cinnabar and I can't believe it's been a year already!
Hey, there. :)
Most of it is based on body size and fins, unfortunately, and even those indicators aren’t guaranteed. Really, unless you get your fish from a breeder who knows the exact hatch date, there’s always going to be guess work. Like, I’m GUESSING Cinnabar was at least 8 months old but, who knows, he could’ve been younger or older, and is just a big boi!
I mean, even with my Betta smaragdina guitar, there’s such a big size difference in some of them that would definitely throw me off if I hadn’t raised them myself! I have a couple that are still tiny for six months old and others that are at least three times as big. They all get the same care, but it was probably exposure to each other’s hormones when they were initially raised together that caused some to be more stunted.

lol i mean i'm pretty sure the correct english term for a group of dogs is either a pack or a kennel, so you can pick which'll be less misleading to people i guess :P
yeah! i think of kennel as more ‘outside’ dogs and pack as more ‘inside’ dogs. is that weird?? kennel just seems so.. like outdoor runs and stuff.

for what it's worth, in the years i've followed you, you've never seemed "full of yourself" or "harsh," and if anything our responses to such messages have always shown diplomacy and groundedness. you're allowed to speak passionately about the things you care about and have confidence in your knowledge and experience. i have heaps of respect for you and how you conduct yourself in this space.
TBH it’s likely because I don’t take anyone’s shit, I don’t roll over at first sign of confrontation, and I don’t tolerate bad behavior so that people won’t see my more negative traits. Nope. You [general] don’t get to misbehave and not get called on it. There’s a blog I follow and really like and someone got confrontational with them and they got confrontational back, then deleted everything and expressed frustration that they run too popular of a blog to be allowed to be angry where the public can see them. Fuck that! You’re [general] allowed to be human! I’m allowed to get mad if someone’s being an asshole to me! I’m allowed to call them on it and tell them I think their behavior is awful. I’ve gotten hate because I’ve told anons it’s rude to demand to know what someone’s disability is, I’ve gotten hate for telling anons that they were being racist. And if someone’s mad that my followers hopped on something with zero prompting from me after acting out against me and being told by me to knock it off, that’s on them.
I appreciate the kind message. I know my reputation is in the shitter and that I’m “well known” for being aggressive and mean and loving drama. It’s 100% because of the above problem. You’re not allowed to have boundaries on this site without getting some form of backlash for it. And it doesn’t matter how nicely you phrase something, you’ll still get someone angry about something. Hell, I’ve had entire periods of me interacting with literally no one and I still got anon hate and smear campaigns posted against me on a monthly basis last year. I’ve never cared what strangers think of me and I’m not about to start caring just to “fix” my reputation on a website that actively punishes people for being too popular or expressing themselves in a way that someone else popular happens to dislike.
#remember that time when I was minding my own business and staying in my own lane for months#and suddenly got several hate messages because a pet care blog namedropped me as a problematic person#because I purchased my dog already cropped and docked#and all of their followers hopped on the hate train#and when I expressed frustration#I was just called a dramamonger and got even more hate#but they got off scot free#do you remember that because I do#do you guys know that I get multiple race-based hate messages every week#and if they're not race-based they're homophobic or transphobic#or just the standard kys or go die type#and you wonder why I get tired of it and eventually call people on it#sorry sorry your message was nice I'm just really frustrated#spartansandkrakens#asks

Hey! Not a question or needing response, just wanted to take a sec to apologize for any and all of your clients who think they know more than you, because I've only had to deal indirectly with one coordinator who "has been a cat owner for 20 yrs" with like "15 different cats" and "how long have you been a vet for, huh?" and I've never wanted so badly to drown someone in the ocean (I didn't, btw. She's fine.) May your weekend be good and your patience plentiful. Ur a good egg. Great egg, even.
Ah, the benefit of going grey is that nobody says “so how long have you been a vet then” because I look old. Also, the benefit of being fat is that Ive never looked ‘young’ so I’ve not often had my experience questioned.
My preferred answer is “Well, my Mum’s had kids for 30 years, and she’s been a primary school teacher too, but that doesn’t make her a doctor.” This is a little less snarky than “Well if you’ve had fifteen cats in twenty years they’re either not living very long or you’re a hoarder” and more effective than telling them about every single cat you’ve ever had growing up.
Alternatively, you can try “Well, you’re here because whatever you’re doing now isn’t working, so let’s try X instead” as a more productive response. That would probably be wiser and more diplomatic.

i'd like to submit to you, daemon oracle, a spart and a lune (as you may know them from my blog, spartytheshelp)
im too deep in this. someone hire me
spice cake: i could see her with a common kestrel bc she can b Fierce and a bit dramatic. or go for something more gentle with like, a snowshoe hare; im not sure which side she displays the most on a daily basis so feel free to discuss
moonbeam: first thing that comes to mind (especially after writing a two page long essay about them) is a small bird like a finch. fits her overall bubbly personality i think! other options include meerkat and squirrel monkey
