Man, people just whip out some absolutely fire speeches at the drop of a hat in this series, don't they?
Also, I hadn't really forgotten how much I love Mira, but the reminder makes heart beat stronger.

sure gladiator 2 looks serviceable, but nothing will top the sheer scale of spartacus the tv show, there's no way it's gonna have half the intensity, the oiled up guys, the drama of its fight scenes, all those queers, the tension build, the violence, the emotional everything, the myth-making, that tv show was a piece of high camp fucked-up gold. will they even have nagron?
#WILL THEY EVEN HAVE NASIR/AGRON THOUGH#spartacus#if anything it's making me want to rewatch spartacus#wanna see my beloved naevia... gannicus.... saxa.... crixus.... oenomaus 🥺#and my evil beloveds lucretia and ilithya 😈

spartacus seasons 2-4 was where all the cool story stuff happened but s1 had something they dont have and never could have had. and it's andy whitman my best friend andy rip king you were the only one who could possibly infuse that character with such mystic sadness. like a pilgrim or some kind of warrior monk. mcintyre doesnt do a bad job at all but his spart is just. like a sort of headstrong fighter. andy's spart was a paladin. i dont know how he did it but he gave this performance that was wildly elevated for the kind of show he was in. his spartacus came off like he really was a man of ordinary, melancholic emotions born into a classical tragedy and forced to live with it, balancing on the knife's edge between myth and humanity. mcintyre's version is an action hero with depth. andy's is a new senecan tragedy
#he really rolls with the stylized language and direction in a way some of the cast don't know how to#some of them compensate by getting as much realism into it as possible - manu bennett manages that balance particularly well#im rewatching that first season rn because i never finished out the show#and man he's good.#like i LIKE his spart. as a person . liams is tolerable like i dont DISLIKE him. but i dont feel warm and effusive either#spartacus#q

All characters on Spartacus are dicks but the way Caesar has Kore's corner has me hitting the like button, I'm not gonna lie. Upon knowing she's been raped his eyes well up and he rages on her behalf, immediately lashing out on Tiberius. He cares to investigate what happened and grieves for the prostitute that gave him answers after Tiberius violently retaliates by having her murdered. Caesar gives in to Kore's plea to see Crassus and again calls out Tiberius. He covers for her when she kills Tiberius and tries to stop Crassus from hurting her by revealing the truth: that she's a victim, the boy forced himself upon her, she is not to blame.
The whole thing aligns with own interests (re: getting rid of Tiberius), sure, but he seems genuinely affected by Tiberius's treatment of Kore. He openly and vocally disapproves of rough treatment of women, of female slaves even. He goes out of his way for Kore numerous times, he comforts Flavia before mercy-killing her and cries over her suffering; he speaks gently to Laeta, seemingly not very happy that she's to be branded a traitor and slaved to Heraclio.
The writers of Spartacus did a fucking fantastic job at creating round and interesting characters. Banger series.
#i like this series more with every rewatch#and i LOVE the dialogues#the dialogues get so much heat but i fuck with heavy stylisation#''but the lack of historical accuracy!'' go eat a documentary then bro idk#i came here for the drama and stayed for the characterisation and the gorgeous GORGEOUS people#elle.txt#series#spartacus#he fucking cries over kore dude. he cries. he cares. it's such an interesting trait for him to have#love a series where every character is legitimately hateable and likeable#except for crassus he can eat a plaster dick ✌️

love wasting time at work by comparing characters from asoiaf with characters from shows no one but me cares about!!!!!
battlestar galactica ruined me forever because it had a perfect redemption arc in baltar and then the shittiest redemption arc imaginable with boomer, and since got went the boomer route of "actually true redemption is too hard, it's better to just die in your toxic shame spiral" with Jaime, Sandor, AND Theon, I am having a constant anxiety attack that I'm going to get the shitty boomer ending for everyone and not the superior "what even IS redemption, can you even BE redeemed when you've caused suffering on such a massive scale, but can you call yourself someone who is learning or redeemed if you don't attempt to be part of the real, true solution, but isn't every life worth saving regardless of whether they've earned that saving" that baltar had!
it's a little difficult to draw parallels to spartacus because most of the mains are slaves (and the mains that are free are NAWT good guys, lol), but i feel like i could straight up map crixus' storyline and jon's storyline right onto each other's, it's not even that they are similar characters (crixus is a slave albeit one with some power and faces a level of dehumanization that even a bastard does not face) but the way both of them internalize violence and the lessons of personal responsibility is fascinatingly similar, like i can practically see jon repeating crixus' "you opened my eyes to this spartacus do not ask me to close them again" speech to his father's ghost.
the one driving me crazy is theon greyjoy and john crichton because i just started up a farscape rewatch! farscape is difficult to compare because these people are all essentially villain protagonists but not in the way the lannisters are where there's a sad "oh no the generational curses got us" energy, but more of a "sometimes the only heroes the universe gets are a bunch of fucked up pathetic bad guys" type way, but JOHN AND THEON SPECIFICALLY. john is tortured a lot throughout the series but the event that haunts him happens in s4, where he's repeatedly raped by a female villain. it takes him the entire last season to work himself up into actually saying the word "rape" because he's a southern, ostensibly cishet dude born in the 70s and Men Aren't Raped, and it's a genuinely amazing story arc watching him completely unravel and then not so much put himself back together but force himself to keep trudging on for the sake of his family and THAT IS WHAT I WANT FOR THEON. Also I think Theon and John would kiss with tongue, personally, i think they'd both enjoy it.
#i have much longer rants in the drafts aldjfkljsd#getting on my soap box#battlestar galactica#farscape#spartacus#also hard to compare the villains in spartacus to the villains in asoiaf bc they are just meant to play vastly different roles#lemme finish my rewatches and i'll start ranting more tho.#watch me start to compare to shitty ya fantasy next.

on the last two episodes of blood and sand of my Spartacus rewatch. Every time I watch this show I learn something new about it. Mira is making more appearances, she's one of my favorite characters and I wished the relationship between her and Spartacus was more of genuine love rather than a contract that turned into friendly affection. Gonna watch the prequel afterwards, I usually watch it first but I decided to watch it as the 2nd season by the suggestion of someone on reddit (where I spend a lot of my Spartacus fangirling time at the fandom is live there). The actual season 2 is hard for me to get through with all the actor switches and the Ludus taking a back burner but I'll get through it, it always gets better towards the end.
Until then here's Mira she's great.

Wow, the foreshadowing in the birthday party episode is laid on a LOT more thickly than I remembered. RIP.
Dude, poor guy's been lying in the infirmary how many days? Maybe sponge him off, at least, he doesn't need to be covered in blood for him to be obviously in a bad way.

There’s a lot of things that don’t work about the last two seasons of Spartacus.
But the fact that back in 2013 they said: „Hey guess what? Only the girls and gays survive!“
Yeah, that was pretty rad of them.

I'm attempting to rewatch The X-Files again but the first couple of episodes are always so hard to get through because I've seen them SO MANY times when I have attempted rewatches in the past.
"Just skip them" you might say, "and you won't have this problem"
No. I cannot skip on a rewatch or else I will be incomplete and uncomfortable
#dot txt#or maybe i'll rewatch spartacus instead#which means i will end up watching the first 5 x-files episodes AGAIN before stopping

MY HOLY TRINITY (REWATCH EDITION)
1. Sihtric Kjartansson, The Last Kingdom
2. Daenerys Targaryen, Game of Thrones (Hate her endgame, but she's still gorgeous)
3. Athelstan, Vikings
BONUS
4. Rhaenyra “Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lady of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm" Targaryen, House of the Dragon
5. Nagron, Spartacus (I had to pick them togheter, they're my everything)
6. Harald Sigurdsson, Vikings Valhalla
watching/rewatching a show when you already have an established favorite character is great because every time they come on screen it's like

You know what I find so interesting about the show Spartacus. Every time one of the characters gets a wound in battle, the makeup department makes damn sure to put the scar on the actor's body. I just love that attention to detail.
