21. SPAIN Miki - “La venda” Autoqualifier

ENTRY ANALYSIS

Is it just me or have the Spanish fans mellowed down this year? They haven’t been too annoying and it’s odd because “La Venda” really is the perfect Spanish entry to me: cheerful, summery and totally not winning, ever. It’s a burst of uncoordinated energy, WAITING for a spark to fully ignite it into a fiery reggaeton blaze.

I’m not going gaga over it though. Having my summers terrorized by “Despacito” and a particularly agonizing Flemish cover of Alvaro Soler’s “Sofia” have rendered me oversaturated with reggaeton for the remainder of my lifetime. That said, “La Venda” is a good song and that doesn’t embarras on impact and that’s more than half of the battle for Spain. 😊

Actually, the journey to how we got to "La Venda” is arguably even better than "La Venda” itself, so I won’t withhold that from you. 😈 

I assume you’re heard of the early Spanish fave, “Muérdeme” by Maria? Good, because I haven’t heard a second of “Muérdeme”  nor do I plan to. Lol, honeys, it was the fave of the SpanishFans. How good can it be?

Anyway, Maria’s sudden rise in popularity, which would lead to the usual Spanish trajectory of winning Objectivo and becoming a registered ESC flop bitchn had her a TERRIFIED to the point she actually started to BEG HER OWN FANS to not vote for her  😂😂😂😂. The Maria fans... continued to cheerfully vote for her anyway. 😂😂😂 Some guy named Famous volunteered to win O:E, and the Maria fans shot him down for some reason (he’s is black 🌚). In retaliation Maria then FEIGNED SICKNESS (😍) and started rehearsing poorly ON PURPOSE 😍😍😍 and BLACKMAILED her fans into voting for Miki instead (the threat was that she wouldn’t get a doctor or smth if they kept voting for her 😍😍😍😍) Some of her fans FINALLY conceded defeat and Miki won. (I say “some” because Maria still finished second by wide margin anyway LMFAO SPAIN 😂❤) 

So all in all, I am eternally grateful Miki tempered the, ahem, passión caliente of the average spanish fanboy by merely existing. It makes the Spanish entry so much easier to digest. 

Autoqualifier Odds: Average

As counterintuitive as it may seem, Spain might actually... not embarrass themselves this year? “La Venda” is pretty good for its genre and like I said, really easy to get into when there aren’t any Spanish people around cawing “Our entry from Espain is SO GOOD. You see we win jajajajjajajajjaja”. "La Venda” also received a clever facelift, putting Miki’s voice central stage (lol the Spanish Fans HATED the revamp at first, even though it drastically improved “La Venda”’s chances of getting outside of the bottom five. Never change <3)

As for results, I don’t expect anything major. “La Venda” is an obvious midcarder if there ever was; It won’t finish at the very bottom and it won’t finish at the very top. It’s fun, energetic and uptempo and there’s always a market for that.  “La Venda” will make pleasant fun finale filler, which I’m sure you’ll agree is always preferable to being fan-flop fodder. 

Projected placement: 13th-20th place in the Grand Final.
