sometimes i feel like toby fox made spamton and the addisons especially for people to hyperfixate on. everything about them seems so perfect for people to go rabid about its insane to me

for one, spamton himself pretty much counts for 4 people, those being addispam, big shot spamton, in game spamton, and spamton neo. now sure you mostly see people going rabid about in game spamton but ive seen plenty of people who are obsessed with a version we dont get to see on screen

secondly, even the main in game spamton himself is kinda up to interpretation. loads of people characterise him differently. if i compared two aus to eachother theyd often be very different and depending on the ones i chose could be almost like 2 different people, and then if i compared those to in-game spamton, theyd still be very different. also since you dont see addispam and big shot spamton on screen you dont even know what they acted like so again basically you can make your own guy to fixate on with a few prompts as to what he was like

dont even get me started on the addisons. now im biased as fuck here seeing that ive been fixated on the addisons for like 6 months now (send help) but toby fox basically gave us 4 templates for us to have fun with. sure based off of in game dialogue you have a bit to go off of when it comes to their personality (pink being an asshole and blue being caring for example) but even then every addison in every different au is slightly different and i have never seen two addisons turn out exactly the same. ALSO you dont even know the relationship these characters have to spamton meaning you can have them be siblings, you can have them be friends, or you can ship them based off of what you enjoy. OR you could just ignore them altogether (which a lot of people do lmao)

also another thing is the fact that you dont necessarily need to have your addisons' personalities just reflect off of spamtons. I mean the main 4 addisons give you enough to go off of to make your own, and you are given cyber city, an entire fantasy world for you to put them in. cyber city again is up to interpretation, some people have it be like a normal city, some people make it a utopia, some people make it a hellscape. the choice is yours!!

and even then in game spamton is so versatile. he is perfect for angsty stuff, fluffy stuff, or jsut silly stuff, and none of it is out of character. you couldnt really make an angsty spongebob edit could you, itd be weird and out of characer and no one would take it seriously. but also you couldnt make a silly walten files video, sure people do but its out of character and wouldnt actually happen canonically. but spamton on the other hand. hes the kinda guy who you can draw holding a wallet in his mouth like a cat and generally being silly but also you could draw him sobbing at the bottom of dumpster and neither would be out of character!! AAAA

also extra thing i thought id add but his backstory is also very up to interpretation, like i dont think ive ever seen two people who think spamtons rise and downfall went exactly the same. sure everyone has the same general idea of how it went but some people believe in acid theory, some people believe in puppetification theory, some people have a mix of both, some people have their own idea of how it went down, and with that you can project different parts of your own trauma onto whatever happened to him.

THE ADDISONS! i like them a lot. i don't think i need to reinvent the wheel much though and claim that i have my own totally unique avant garde nouveau interpretation. i think people have done a really good job over the years of extrapolating what little dialogue we have of the addisons to think up some character traits The Addisons may have as a group of, say, five entities. one for each colour we see.

speaking of them as a group:

i headcanon them as a group of coworkers rather than siblings!

i prefer a more humanoid look for the addisons (given my track record) and i like it when people make them luminous/glowing. its fun!

i give them little cheek marks for fun. ive been calling them addison cutie marks

i'm of the belief that spamton was one of the orange addison's mannequins brought to life, and that's why he's so short/gains more doll features later on- his inherent differences are invisible at first (i draw him with very faint mouth lines and a far dimmer glow than the others as well as with no cheek marks) but the further he slips, the more they slip out. it makes sense to me because as a spam email he's inherently more malicious/less desirable than regular ads and it isn't until he slips through the cracks that he stops being able to mask as a regular addison

(yeah im drawing a bit from neurodivergence here. "for some reason he's different from us" being echoed by the addisons and nobody can really see why until it gets so bad that spamton's different traits have no choice but to bleed through because he's going through a total meltdown)

pink:

diva. catty diva. ambitious to a fault- a lot like spamton

based on the fact that pink is the one to have the lines that outright imply jealousy towards spamton when he got big, and also the fact that pink is the one who offers kris and noelle the freeze ring

he and spamton had a homoerotic rivalry where they were always butting heads and annoying each other, even including picking up stock of two rings nobody wants, but pink doesn't realize how much he really liked spamton until spamton's gone

but at that point he and the others had already walked away from him. it'd be a blow to his pride to ever reach out. not his fault spamton went wrong anyways. he made his choice

blue:

bleeding heart. bit of a pushover. kind but that kindness won't kick in until it's too late

based on the fact that his role is one that literally gives people stuff for free (free samples) and the fact that a blue addison is given the lines about going back to check in on spamton after everything's said and done

enjoyed spamton's company and worried about him but he was never able to grow a spine and make things his problem until it was too late. he's a bystander and that's the problem

tended to coddle spamton a little bit

orange:

the one who introduced spamton to the others, cos obviously i think it was HIS mannequin

the addison with the biggest ideas and the biggest quirks

if pink has spamton's ambition, orange has the same outspoken eagerness spamton does

fashion mogul (is the one with the mannequins!)

treated spamton as a bit of a "mini-me" because of being the one to find him, but that meant he never really saw spamton as being able to be on the same level as him

probably shied away from even thinking of spamton because he thinks "well HE messed up but that would never happen to ME". self recognition through the other (derogatory) basically

takes the biggest risks (aside from spamton) so he's about middle of the road in terms of profits cos he gains and loses a lot

yellow:

quiet, a bit distant, more businesslike

based on the fact that the yellow addison can only be seen from behind in the trash dump after spamton neo is defeated. perhaps he's more on the managerial side of things? or in even higher company than the city?

the one who most openly views spamton as a level below the rest of them thanks to his failing profits

still, he tries to rein in the others like pink from trying to push him down. wanted to see spamton prove himself once and for all

saw spamton's fall and disappearance as being unable to make it in the business world once and for all. that's showbiz, baby.

17. What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?

See this is a tricky question bc I wouldn't say I truly LIKE any spamton ships really; they all don't work for me for one reason or another. But I'm fine with seeing some* of them regardless because I do view a majority of them as having been a part of his history? Like him and swatch for example. I do not enjoy that ship or actively take part in it but do I think there was something going on there during spamtons big shot years??? Yeah. Do I have a problem with anyone that does enjoy it? No. Kind of a non-answer but it's the best I've got

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to ths character? Something you don't like?

OH BOY AM I A FIC READER. For the past month or so as my hyperfixation on spam has ramped up in severity again I've been trying to read every spamton centric fic that's ever been written and wow has it been a journey. So as for what I like!! The easiest answer to this is probably just the general statement of "when people write him how he is in canon." It's surprisingly rare to see him written in such a manner but is always a nice surprise when he is. Not only do I say this in relation to his character as a whole, but his speech patterns too! Which- admittedly- are extremely difficult to get the hang of! So I understand if people aren't super well versed in it and can't write him accurately in that manner. But it's my favorite thing ever when people do.

As for the second part of this question, I think the most glaring thing I hate when it comes to fics about him is just how often he's infantilized. It's SHOCKING how often it happens. Sure sure, he can be silly no doubt about it, but he's a grown man in his 40s and has experienced so much awful shit. Can we knock it off with treating him like he's a newborn or is stupid?? In the same breadth is when people make him excessively kind or sweet right off the bat... like is he not kind of an asshole??? I think its perfectly fine to embrace that fact; him being morally gray adds SO much to his character! Dare I say a lot of people who enjoy his character wouldn't have been intrigued by him without it, so I don't know why that element of his character is so often neglected. Same with his small moments of kindness/humanity; they wouldn't hit as hard if he was like that the whole time. Idk. I'm kind of picky about writing and literature so I have a lot to say sorry lol

If we're talking about canon art of him only then I will forever be thinking about this gif of him. It makes me crazy. Same with this drawing toby did of him, you people have no idea the damage it does to me

If fan works are included... then this piece by @fatspamton is my absolute favorite picture of spamton EVER and it has been for the longest time, no question about it. It's exactly how I see him in my head and he looks so charming in it T_T <3 All of this artists spamton art (and other art/music too!!) is absolutely worth looking at if you ask me; the way he draws spam is unbelievably perfect, I think about all of its works of him very often :"^]

Going to be honest I've been stumped on this one. I don't think I have any answer?? There's no guy that takes up my brain space which is similar enough to him for me to say in full confidence "yeah x is like him," sorry!

YIPPEEE, my designs of the main four Addisons! Headcanons + Individual information under the cut :) (Long Post, as usual).

I think I started working on this in January?? In any case, THIS TOOK TOO LONG BUT I AM SO HAPPY ABOUT IT!!

Sample James (The Blue Addison) [He/Him]

I am not immune to Blue Addison = Oldest and most responsible propaganda. So... yeah! Sample is the eldest / second-eldest next to his twin, Broadcast, of the group! He's an employee of a gift shop / Cyber Shoes location (the shop that gives out free samples!) They're the most level-headed of the group, being the type to offer gentle advice, comfort, and care, along with a listening ear and a calming presence. They're not exactly... enthusiastic about their job? But it pays the bill, so he doesn't try to find a new one that fits into his purpose within Cyber City's Addison workforce. Sample also has pica, so occasionally he's selling / giving Lightners (like Kris) products from the gift shop like they're comsumables rather than items.

Sample is closest with his twin, Broadcast - in fact, they're the only pair of Addisons to have spawned in at the exact same time on the same day in Cyber City. Even if they're not biologically related, they still consider themselves twins, and they were the first people that each other saw. Broadcast is a bit like the Yin to Sample's Yang, as they're an influencer to getting Sample to be more outgoing, while Sample is the influence that (sometimes) mellows Broadcast out.

Sample's advertisements tend to hinge between survey advertisements (like sample sizes) and advertising websites that work with coupons and saving money like Honey and Rakuten.

Broadcast Nikola (The Yellow Addison) [He/They]

In my interpretation of the main four Addisons, Broadcast is, as his name suggests, a commercial broadcaster! Tehy work very long hours at Cyber City's TV station as the sole host of Cyber City's shopping channels, advertising products sold by Addisons across the city nearly 24 hours a day. Despite the long hours, he's a huge ball of energy, constantly speaking quickly and fidgeting with a pair of metal spheres that they carry everywhere. In addition, they're... very much a coffee and sugar addict, keeping a thermos on him at all times that's filled with coffee mixed with obscene amounts of cinnamon and sugar.

Of course, they're closest with their twin, Sample. Most of their free time off work is spent with him. Broadcast is also the type to wear Hawaiian shirts and meme clothes (like that one ADHD shirt that parodies the ACDC merch), and was the one who suggested they and Sample dye portions of their hair in the other's colour, and the one who suggested the family spend their Friday nights at the Cyber Grill (a lot of the time, he was singing at the karaoke stand with Spamton or Banner).

As you probably guessed, Broadcast's advertisements are all television / video based, with commercials on television and advertisements on websites like YouTube.

Target Tourmaline (The Pink Addison) [He/Him]

Target is the middle child of the main four Addisons! He runs a combination jewellery store / Cyber Shoes location - the place where you buy the Freeze Ring / get the pitch for the Dating Shoes. He also runs the tea shop, so he is a bit of a workaholic. He's very no-nonsense and by-the-book, and VERY strict with time management since he already runs three stores. He's also very picky about what he eats and drinks, watching the amount of data that consumables have and pretty much only drinking tea and occasionally battery acid.

Out of the main group, he's the most powerful with his magic, having studied and practiced with it for a long time. Outside of being very uppity, he does care a lot about his siblings, and is usually the one to be called for tough love and harsh truths that need to be heard. He's the closest with Banner, but was also pretty close with Spamton in more of a teasing older sibling - egotistical little sibling dynamic.

Their type of advertising is targeted ads, giving Lightners ads based on their browsing data. He and Spamton used to run a dating website where he did the matchmaking, and Spamton sent out the emails to promote the website.

Banner Hestia (The Orange Addison) [They/Them]

Banner is the youngest of the main four! They run the shop where you buy the Mannequin, and is the most successful of the group with a very popular boutique. They tend to hyperfixate HARD on their clothing designs, and brings a sketching tablet practically everywhere with them. They can make clothes and designs very VERY fast, buuuut tend to fall asleep at their own desk late at night.

They're the closest with Target, usually going to him for advice and just general hanging out, but it's very well known that Banner wears their heart on their sleeve, and cares deeply for every one of their little family - to the point where it may be a little bit obsessive / possessive. They're known for their excellent customer service and speed at getting work and commissions done, being very helpful and supportive towards the customers that come to their shop. Simultaneously the most and least salesman-like of the group since despite their great success they still form a lot of connections with customers and clients and never just like another sucker to buy their stuff.

Banner's type of advertising is, of course, banner advertisements. You have them to thank for the absolutely insane amount of banner ads covering most of the Fandom wiki.

Explaining how my Deltarune "au" works bc yes

Okay, this is gonna be long but just stay and read pls.(rest under cut)

This is set about one year after chapter 2(might change when chapters 3-5 come out), and this "au" is mostly centered around the secret bosses(Spamton + Jevil + OC's)

In Castle Town, Jevil's past cell has been repurposed as a cell for all secret bosses, so Jevil and Spamton are basically roommates.

Both are definitely more tame, and Spamton kinda resembles when he was an Addison in personality. Jevil is just Jevil but less loud and more friendly, he also repeats words less unless he's nervous for whatever reason. Both look the same as in-game in appearance, except for some of just how I design them.

Now, for the OC's:

Meowsk - Meowsk is a robot Darkner from the Cyber World, similar to Spamton, except with metallic gray skin instead, and cat ears and tail as cybernetic enhancements. Was friends with Spamton and the Addisons in the past, and was the only one who stayed with Spamton in his Big Shot era. Worked at the Card Castle as a patrol guard and mechanic after Spamton disappeared and ended up meeting Gaster and going insane. He uses his claws to fight. Met the Fun Gang in Cyber City while hiding in an alleyway(which ends up being the same alleyway that Spamton used to live in) and fought them near Castle Town. Some other guards found Meowsk fighting the Fun Gang and dragged him away from them as he came back to his senses and screamed for the Fun Gang to help him and apologizing profusely, and he ended up getting locked up with Spamton and Jevil. Very flirty and suggestive in nature, but sometimes completely afraid of any physical touch because of past trauma. Loves cuddling up to both Spamton and Jevil, and is just about completely enamored with the two of them.

Tree-Cat - Tree-Cat, or just Tree for short, is a young, light blue humanoid cat secret boss that lives in Castle Town. They think of Seam as a bit of a parental figure, though more like an older sibling, and is extremely clingy towards them. They're also a Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel OC so their isn't as much info as I'd love to give bc I don't wanna confuse the people who don't follow the fandom. Tree hasn't fought with the Fun Gang yet, and is extremely paranoid about even meeting them in fear of being put in the cell without Seam. Sometimes extremely depressed or stressed out, and is easily affected by other's emotions. Disassociates at times and cna snap out of it after a few minutes or even half a day. Has plan-related abilities, plus can use green fire similar to Seam, and will usually just use rose thorns to throw at people they dislike for fun, or Jevil as the Devilsknife if they plan on inflicting serious damage on someone. Will also sometimes go to Jevil if they're feeling down and don't want to bother Seam. They're also kind of a self-insert.

hi chat, this is the post where i talk about deltarune addison lore that exists only in my brain

so yeah uh all five of these guys are siblings!! though it's kinda only through association, as all five of them were made as part of the same batch of addisons. ( maya and spamton are actual siblings, and percy and rodney are also actual siblings. cam's the twins' half-sibling i guess. )

now for my weird ass addisons-as-a-species thoughts ;

addisons usually work for about ten years, and then retire and make a new generation of addisons to work. it's kinda?? like mating i guess?? though it's mostly just for the art of the deal.

most addisons kinda just. spawn their kids and leave each other to continue work until they retire.

addisons are typically made in small batches, and said batches are basically a family unit.

newly-spawned addisons can take months or even years to become conscious. the sooner an addison is conscious, the better, since that means more time to pass down knowledge onto them and let them practice.

there's more than just the five colors we see in deltarune, addisons can be pretty much any color.

adding onto the last point, colors are genetic!! but it works in weird ways. it's completely up to fate if an addison will only inherit one color from their parents, or a mix of them. maya and spamton are good examples actually!! their parent addisons were a dark blue and a white addison. maya is a mix of them, while spamton only got the white genes. same happened with percy and rodney, percy is a mix of an orange and yellow while rodney is only yellow!! ( cam got the single-color gene as well )

eyes are also genetic, but there's only two types; line eyes, and eyes with whites. punnet square type beat.
