HM Engineering take on The Green Hell!
HM Engineering to take on the GTR24h Nurburgring!
The Indonesian based simulator design company and esports team will be taking part in this weekend's 24-hour race at the Nurburgring, fielding a team in the SP9 (McLaren 720s) and SP7 (Porsche Cup). With only becoming a proper eSports team this year and making waves in the pinnacle of iRacing and rFactor 2 leagues in the first half of 2020, HM Engineering will look to continue there ways of big events this weekend. The driver lineups both having plenty of experience running the Nurburgring 24h layout, with rF2 GT Pro driver Peyo Peev heading the Porsche Cup team alongside iRacing experts Jordan Weekes and Norbert Leitner, with Ferris Stanley coming in for a one-off drive with the team bringing his tintop expertise. Harris Muhammad (owner of HME) will be driving alongside countrymen Rifqy Afiyat, both done plenty of laps around this place, with veteran Rudy Cuppen joining the Indonesians in the Mclaren 720s who has shown his talent in many series and leagues around the world with these cars. Build-Outs Of Summer: Congregation Coffee Roasters In New Orleans, LA
With the autumnal equinox but a few short days away, we’re in the 11th hour of the Build-Outs of Summer, so we’re heading to a place that has a bit of a summer feel to it all year round: New Orleans, Louisiana—The Big Easy—home to Congregation Coffee Roasters.
We’ve featured Congregation previously here on Sprudge, profiling their original Pelican Ave location. And now they are back with a brand new cafe. With the new spot, Congregation is looking at the all-day cafe model, starting off in the morning with a pastry-forward menu that transitions into more substantial noshes around lunchtime; think roasted pork and eggplant sandwiches on brioche buns. And I know this is a coffee shop, but how could you not get a sweet tea while you’re there? Truly there are options aplenty, enough to justify a coupla three visits or so to the brand new Congregation Coffee Roasters in New Orleans, Louisiana.

For those who aren’t familiar, will you tell us about your company?
Congregation Coffee Roasters is an artisan coffee company in New Orleans. Its name comes from the collective noun for a group of alligators. The company was founded by a New Orleans native and a transplant from coffee-loving Seattle, who hatched a plan to bring specialty coffee to the New Orleans area and beyond while working together at Cochon Butcher. They launched the company out of a shed behind a shotgun house in April of 2015, later moving to a full-size roastery and retail location on Algiers Point.
Can you tell us a bit about the new space?
The space at 644 Camp St has been a cafe, restaurant, and/or coffee shop since the 1800s, and Congregation is keeping that tradition alive with its second location. The newest outpost of Congregation offers a casual “all-day cafe” model, designed to offer a little something for everyone in the CBD, be it a grab-and-go coffee and pastry in the morning, or a relaxed sweet tea and breakfast sandwich for lunch!
What’s your approach to coffee?
The company focuses heavily on crafting consistent blends as well as a wide range of single origin offerings for restaurant, wholesale, and retail. We believe in making specialty coffee accessible to the public, using thoughtfully designed flavor profiles that bridge traditional and modern trends in coffee. While most of our coffees fall in the spectrum of medium and light roasts, we are sensitive to the history that dark roast and chicory plays in our market, so we do our best nod to traditional palates while at the same time pushing the region’s boundaries.
Any machines, coffees, special equipment lined up?
Since we forecast a high volume cafe, we went with a “tried and true” line up of equipment: La Marzocco Linea PB, Wilbur Curtis G4 Therma Pro and hot water tower, Nuova Simonelli G1 grinders, Mahlkönig EK43 filter grinder, and the Marco SP9 Twin pour-over brewers. The goal is to showcase our coffees without taking the barista’s focus away from the customers.
How is your project considering sustainability?
For environmental sustainability we do all the things we can, like using post consumer recycled paper products, recycling our plastic/paper/etc, and being part of the local compost network for our grounds, chaff, and food waste. But we are also looking at another definition of sustainability, one that is rooted in the health and well being of our team. We decided to bring the “service charge included” model to our Camp St cafe so as to remove the power dynamic between service provider and guest. We hope it will help temper the mental exhaustion that being tip reliant can bring, and offer our staff a more stable, predictable income.
What’s your hopeful target opening date/month?
We opened our doors on July 26th.
Are you working with craftspeople, architects, and/or creatives that you’d like to mention?

Porsche mit Platz zwei und Pro-Am-Klassensieg beim 24-Stunden-Marathon
Stuttgart. Porsche hat bei den 24 Stunden am Nürburgring nach einer nahezu fehlerfreien Leistung den 13. Gesamtsieg nur knapp verpasst. Die neueste Generation des Porsche 911 GT3 R mit der Startnummer 911 vom Team Manthey-Racing lag in 105 von 157 gefahrenen Runden in Führung und musste sich am Ende mit Platz zwei begnügen. Drei Stunden vor Rennende verlor der bis dahin souverän führende Neunelfer nach einer Zeitstrafe die Spitzenposition und konnte den Rückstand aus eigener Kraft trotz der schnellsten Pace im Feld nicht mehr aufholen.
Von Beginn an hatte die Besatzung mit den beiden frischgebackenen Sportwagenweltmeistern Kévin Estre (Frankreich) und Michael Christensen (Dänemark) sowie Laurens Vanthoor (Belgien) und Earl Bamber (Neuseeland) keinen Zweifel daran gelassen, dass sie das prestigeträchtige Langstreckenrennen in der Eifel gewinnen will. Nach einem sensationellen Überholmanöver übernahm Kévin Estre nach gut fünf Stunden die Führung, die er mit seinen Fahrerkollegen zwei Drittel der Distanz mit fehlerlosen Stints und einem perfekt eingestellten Porsche 911 GT3 R sicher behauptete. Mit 8:17,745 Minuten fuhr Estre in seinem letzten Stint zudem die schnellste Rennrunde. Die harte Zeitstrafe von 5:32 Minuten aufgrund einer übersehenen gelben Flagge machte jedoch alle Hoffnungen auf den Sieg zunichte.
Jubel herrschte beim zweiten Porsche 911 GT3 R von Manthey-Racing. Das Fahrzeug mit der Startnummer 12 belegte den fünften Platz im Gesamtklassement und sicherte sich gleichzeitig den Klassensieg in der Pro-Am-Wertung. Die beiden Porsche Young Professionals Matteo Cairoli (Italien) und Dennis Olsen (Norwegen) zeigten zusammen mit den erfahren Piloten Otto Klohs (Ludwigshafen) und Lars Kern (Weissach) großen Kampfgeist. Bereits eine Woche zuvor beim 24-Stunden-Rennen in Le Mans konnte ein Porsche-Team den Sieg in der Amateurwertung für sich verbuchen. Die Mannschaft von Iron Force by Ring Police mit Jan-Erik Slooten (Neuss), Lucas Luhr (Koblenz), Steve Jans (Luxemburg) und Adrien de Leener (Belgien) steuerte seinen Porsche 911 GT3 R mit der Startnummer acht auf Platz zwölf, was den vierten Rang in der Pro-Am-Wertung bedeutete.
Doch nicht nur die insgesamt sieben Porsche 911 GT3 R drückten der Veranstaltung ihren Stempel auf. Auch in den seriennahen Kategorien waren es zumeist die Fahrzeuge aus Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, die das Tempo machten. In acht von 24 Klassen wurden Porsche-Teams als Sieger gewertet.
Stimmen zum Rennen Sebastian Golz (Projektleiter Porsche 911 GT3 R): „Wir haben über 24 Stunden eine extrem gute Perfomance mit dem Porsche 911 GT3 R gezeigt. Ein starkes Team hat toll zusammengearbeitet und die Leistung auf den Punkt gebracht. Das Glück war aber nicht auf unserer Seite, und zwei kleine Fehler haben am Ende dazu geführt, dass wir den Sieg nicht holen konnten. Ein guter zweiter Platz und der Klassensieg in der Pro-Am – in Summe ein gutes Wochenende für Porsche.“
Earl Bamber (Porsche 911 GT3 R #911): „Ich denke, wir hatten das beste Auto und die beste Crew in der Pitlane. Wir haben einen Fehler gemacht und der hat uns den Sieg gekostet. Wir standen 5:32 Minuten in der Box und haben mit einem Rückstand von gut 40 Sekunden verloren. Das zeigt deutlich, wie stark wir waren. Jeder von uns hätte den Fehler machen können, der zu dieser Strafe geführt hat. Es ist sehr schwierig, alle Slow-Zones und gelbe Flaggen zu sehen. Aber so ein Missgeschick spornt uns zusätzlich an, im nächstes Jahr kommen wir stärker zum Nürburgring zurück.“
Kévin Estre (Porsche 911 GT3 R #911): „Wir haben das Rennen über einen langen Zeitraum deutlich angeführt und hatten ein sehr gutes Auto. Leider hat uns ein Fehler den Sieg gekostet. Am Nürburgring ist es nicht immer leicht, die Flaggensignale zu sehen, besonders nachts ist es ein herausforderndes Rennen. Wie gut wir waren, zeigt meine schnellste Rennrunde, die allerdings heute leider zweitrangig ist.“
Michael Christensen (Porsche 911 GT3 R #911): „Das war ein verrücktes Rennen. In 24 Stunden kann so viel passieren, aber die Fahrer, die Mannschaft, alle zusammen haben das toll hinbekommen. Unser Auto war perfekt vorbereitet, die Ingenieure und Mechaniker haben uns optimal unterstützt. Es war heute einfach nicht unser Tag.“
Laurens Vanthoor (Porsche 911 GT3 R #911): „Wir haben im gesamten 24-Stunden-Rennen nur einen Fehler gemacht. Ich habe die gelbe Flagge nicht gesehen. Ich weiß nicht, warum mir das passiert ist. Ich habe die Szene noch vor Augen, aber selbst da habe ich sie nicht bemerkt. Leider hatte das schwerwiegenden Konsequenzen. Das Rennen war ansonsten perfekt – bis auf die übersehene Flagge.“
Nicki Raeder (Manthey-Racing): „Das ist schwer zu verdauen. Irgendwie eine Duplizität der Ereignisse. In Le Mans lagen wir auch lange Zeit in Führung, ehe eine Strafe uns zurückwarf. Man muss jetzt aber über die erste Enttäuschung hinwegkommen, denn ein zweiter Platz bei diesem Traditionsrennen am Ring ist ein Wahnsinnsergebnis und sollte gefeiert werden. Besondern freue ich mich darüber, dass wir mit Otto Klohs und seinen Jungs die Pro-Am-Klasse gewinnen konnten. Auch darauf können wir stolz sein.“
Sven Müller (Porsche 911 GT3 R #31): „Ich war in meiner Karriere im Motorsport noch nie so enttäuscht wie heute. Das ganze Team hat alles gegeben, das Auto war mega zu fahren, alle Boxenstopps waren perfekt. Wir hatten heute eine echte Chance auf den Sieg und dann stoppt uns ein Defekt, der die Folge eines Reifenschadens war. Einfach unfassbar.“
Robert Renauer (Porsche 911 GT3 R #30): „Für uns ist es leider nicht gut gelaufen. Wir hatten zwei Mal den gleichen Defekt, das ist sehr enttäuschend für alle, denn wir sind fehlerfrei durch das Rennen gekommen. Manchmal hat man das Glück aber nicht auf seiner Seite. Trotzdem hat es sehr viel Spaß gemacht und es war toll, ein Teil von Frikadelli Racing zu sein.“
Dennis Olsen (Porsche 911 GT3 R #12): „Wir freuen uns riesig über den fünften Platz. Unser Ziel, die Pro-Am-Klasse zu gewinnen, haben wir dadurch erreicht. Außerdem sind wir wirklich stolz, als Am-Fahrzeug in der Gesamtwertung so weit nach vorn gefahren zu sein. Und das mit dem Vorjahresmodell des Porsche 911 GT3 R.“
Jörg Bergmeister (Porsche 911 GT3 R #44): „Das Rennen ist nicht so gelaufen, wie wir es uns erhofft hatten. Aufgrund der Reparatur nach dem Reifenschaden haben wir zu Beginn des Rennens relativ viel Zeit verloren. Die Pace wurde mit zunehmender Renndauer immer besser, das war eine positive Entwicklung. Dass wir so kurz vor Rennende von der Strecke geflogen sind, ist natürlich sehr ärgerlich. Aber so ist das im Rennsport.“
Lucas Luhr (Porsche 911 GT3 R #8): „Am Anfang hatten wir ein paar Probleme mit der Balance und mussten einiges am Auto verändern. Das hat viel gebracht und auch durch die verschiedenen Reifenmischungen wurde unsere Pace besser. Die Strafe für eine Kollision in der Boxengasse war hart. Mittlerweile ist das hier ein Sprintrennen und fünfeinhalb Minuten Penalty kannst du dir nicht erlauben. Wir sind hier das erste Mal als Team an den Start gegangen und dafür ist unser Ergebnis sehr ordentlich.“

Build-Outs Of Summer: Greater Goods Roasting In Austin, TX
As Austin continues to bloat with newcomers, the boundaries of what is considered to be “far away” expand. East Austin used to be “all the way over there, by the airport.” Now it’s just East Austin and it’s actually quite popular. It is also the new home of Greater Goods Roasting Co.
Hailing from Dripping Springs in the heart of the Hill Country, Greater Goods is making the jump to the big city and is the new furthest east specialty coffee shop in Austin, just edging out Fleet Coffee. The 6,000-square-foot space will also be one of the largest in the city, and they’ll be putting it to good use. On top of a cafe and roasting facility, Greater Goods will also home to a new SCA training facility. With all these new folks flooding the city, there’s going to be a need for lots of new coffee shops. Luckily, Greater Goods is up to the challenge.

For those who aren’t familiar, will you tell us about your company?
Greater Goods is a small-batch roasting company based in Dripping Springs, a town just outside of Austin known to Texans as part of the “Hill Country.” Established in 2015, we are newcomers to the Austin coffee landscape. We are deeply committed to quality and emphasize giving back to our four local charity partners.
Can you tell us a bit about the new space?
The East Austin location will be a flagship cafe, training center, and our second roasting facility.
In addition to the coffee bar and patio, it will be a SCA campus for certification courses and public classes. We plan to host events including cuppings, workshops, panels, and latte art throwdowns. We aim to embrace the coffee community in Austin and be a space for baristas from different shops to mingle, learn from each other, and uplift the entire industry. Thankfully we have folks like Austin Coffee Society and SheBrews ATX doing awesome work in bringing people together already. We’re happy to further support their efforts.
Other than coffee activities, one of the greatest features of the property is the parking lot. With its history as a tow yard, it has room for 28 parking spaces! The original building was a steel structure used as an office, and we’re currently replacing the roof and walls. The total building spec is 5,595 square feet.
What’s your approach to coffee?
Our goal in roasting is to consistently find the sweet spot for each coffee. Our team is very critical during production cupping and we’re always seeking to improve and make adjustments.
In serving the Dripping Springs area, we love connecting with our neighbors who may not have tried lighter roasted coffees before. It makes our day to win them over!
We offer a range of coffees to satisfy all palates, from everyday chocolate notes to fruit bombs. We source both directly and through trusted importers and provide transparency information on our retail bags with more details on our website.
Any machines, coffees, special equipment lined up?
Here we go… We’ll be roasting on a 15-kilo Loring visible from the cafe area.
The main bar will feature a gravimetric Victoria Arduino Black Eagle, Marco SP9, Curtis G4 twin brewer, and Marco Mix for teas. The grinder line-up will be the Nuova Simonelli Mythos Clima Pro and Compak PKE for espresso, and a Mahlkönig EK-43 for batch brew and pour-overs.
The training lab will have a UNIC Stella di Caffe and another Simonelli machine. The grinder line-up will be the same as the main bar, along with Ditting grinders for cupping.

Walkenhorst Motorsport followed up an assertive win in Saturday’s six hour ADAC ACAS Cup with their N°34 BMW M4 GT3 earning another victory in the ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen Sunday to close out the twelve hour weekend domination of the 2023 Nürburgring Langstrecken Series.
