Souyorise idea.

Yu starts dating Rise first. When there are others present, Yosuke is all "ughhh coupless keep rubbing it on us singles' faces why don't you" and nobody really takes him seriously. It's Yosuke, he complains. (Not like he's the only one who's a little bit annoyed.) But when it's just him and Yu.. Yu notices that it like, actually bothers him quite a bit.

Now, Yu is an intuitive person. It doesn't take him long to notice there's something more to Yosuke's jealousy than he willingly lets on. So he takes it up with Rise; he would love going out with him too, but obviously he'll forget all about it if Rise has even the slightest opposition to it.

And Rise knows he means it. She isn't thrilled about the idea of sharing her boyfriend, but she also knows Yu wouldn't be able to just let it be. He can't leave people alone with their sorrows; it's what she likes about him in the first place. She's a bit apprehensive, but she wants Yu to be happy, and she knows he couldn't be, knowing someone else is sad and there's something he could do about it. Yu has too much love in him to constrict it to one person.

So they have this arrangement. Yu goes out with both of them, mostly one-on-one, and the Investigation Team still has its group outings, but the three of them start spending more time together as a trio as well. Yu is already a confidant to them both, but they also get to see sides to each other they couldn't before.

And so it just happens that their feelings develop (if "change" is too drastic a word; they did like and care about each other already, after all). The arrangement is arranged a little more, so they're all going out together. There are three couples, and one entity. Nobody really saw it happening when they started out, but it's a positive development. I don't know how to wrap this up bye

I Regret Everything - Quick Fanfic Rant

My biggest regret- throwing Marie into this SouYoRise poly. Like her character is daunting to write. I purposely throw her to the side and claim she's never around because she doesn't really develop much, the "Tsundere" archetype is just making excuses for her narcissistic behavior, and the vibe just doesn't click.

Like Rise may be obsessed and all "Senpai, senpai" but she also acts as the mother of the group and offers support even in times outside her bubbly personality. Meaning- her serious moments really count and hit hard. Her words can really cut deep when they count. She can have additional story that offers to her personal growth.

Yosuke had a LOT of development and growth where he can still be an asshole but sweet at the important times. His internalized projection of his sexuality is what makes him so fun to write.

Yu - I sort of had fun writing "blank slate" characters where in Arena and Dancing, and especially the original anime he had a lot of personality traits to go off of, and making a "troll" and "goofy" protagonist character is super fun to do. In a way he was like writing "Nate" (The Sole Survivor) but with sarcastic F4 dialogue, which is why I loved his character in the anime more than in-game.

Marie? I have such a hard time writing her in that it just feels better to toss her to the wolves.

If people like Marie that is totally fine. I thought she was okay in the game but the Golden Anime really, REALLY ruined her for me. It makes me regret the Crunchyroll subscription.

i'm kinda stuck on who Yu ends up with in my AU cause like... i like both SouYo and YuRise and i intially wanted a polycule between the three of them (SouYoRise, i think that's what it's called) but like... then i eventually had the idea of just having Yu and Yosuke be just friends (like Kotone and Junpei) and even wrote out a bunch of stuff of how Yu and Rise get together (in contrast to the game, Rise doesn't instantly begin with calling Yu her senpai)

persona 4 is so insane how basically all of the main characters are gay caricatures who arent actually gay lmfao. yosuke is so misogynist hes gay but he also believes gay men are predators. kanji is a victim of said belief because his shadow is basically rupaul but dont worry he falls in love with a girl. and that girl? disguised themself as a man for years to be taken seriously by their adult peers, despite said peers still not taking them seriously because of their age, so this excuse doesnt make sense under any scrutiny. chie is masculine and sporty for a girl so obviously she is deeply insecure about possibly being seen as too butch for guys. yukiko seens chie as her prince but not in THAT way. and rise is also there
