Ron what are your top 10 favorites movies ever made
This is not a definitive list I love too many movies too much but here is a sampling:
1. Head - self explantory
2. Bull Durham - the greatest baseball movie ever made. even if you don't know anything about baseball you will love this movie. it will lovingly teach you all you need to know which is that baseball is sex and sex is baseball. Susan Surandon and Kevin Kostner mildly kinky sex with heavy saxophone. Wear garters to pitch better. The beauty of the minor leagues.
3. Benny and Joon - this movie is just... delightful. It knows exactly when to take itself seriously and when to be whimsical. Being something of a Joon myself I formed an emotional connection to these characters at a young age when I originally saw this story as a wonderful musical premiere that unfortunately never went anywhere. I still mourn those songs. Benny Joon and Sam are adorable and the conflict makes sense and I like everybody in this movie. Ugh. So perfect and sweet.
4. Maurice - E. M. FORSTER. I will always be a room with a view girly but this movie is better sorry. The movie that annoying gay people asking for happy ending would like if they understood the concept of class conflict. So good so wonderful. Alec Scudder you will always be famous.
5. My Cousin Vinny - Italian Americans, Jews, the south, what could go wrong? One of the funniest movies of all time and one of the sexiest movies of all time. Marisa Tomei perhaps I am not a homosexual. Ralph Macchio. Fucking stunning. A film that doesn't need to be as gorgeous as it is but serves and slays at every turn. Thee courtroom comedy.
6. Army of Darkness - I can't watch scary movies luckily this movie isn't scary. I love hot men doing dumb shit, I love king arthur, I love Sam Raimi, I love boiiiiiinnnngggg sound effect. This movie is EPIC. Smart stupid fun.
7. Parting Glances - Steve Buscemi gay AIDS comedy 1986. No one has seen this movie because I don't think it got a wide theatrical release its one of those movies I am lucky to know about because my parents went and saw every independent movie released from 1984-2002 at our local art theater (RIP). This movie is sweet and thoughtful and hysterical. One of my moms favorites one of my favorites. Dump him, fall in love with your best friend.
8. Arsenic and Old Lace - I have to have at least one extremely old thing on here (honorable mention to bringing up baby). This movie is fucking hilllarrrious. Jonathon Brewster and Dr. Herman Einstein are the greatest homoerotic villain duo of all time. Carey Grant for God's sake!!!! A horribly dark comedy about the two sweetest old ladies you ever did meet.
9. The Lost World: Jurassic Park - what if Jurrassic Park starred Dr. Ian Malcolm. Are you stupid? Jurassic Park is a perfect film but this one is My Favorite. The power of gymnastics can ward off a dinosaur.
10. Pacific Rim - the characters in this movie blow all its peers out of the water. Raleigh Becket? Mako Mori???? Stacker Pentecost? Newt Geizler? Helllooooo. Dr. Herman. Gottlieb. What if an action movie was good? I can't believe no one had thought of that until now? Not a kaiju guy sorry. Not a Jaeger guy. Just a freaky little characters guy and boy does this move have them.
Soooo many more: Moonstruck, Raising Arizona, Pride and Prejudice, Lancelot of the Lake, The Sting, Slap Shot, Barefoot in the Park, Excalibur, Re-Animator 1&2, Evil Dead 2, Bill and Ted, To Wong Foo, Repo Man, I could go on forever.... I love the movies.....

Down by the River — Nanami Kento x Tiana (Disney)
Summary: In the early 1930s, Nanami embarks on a business trip to the South, where the Crescent City awaits. His journey begins with new connections and the enticing allure of Southern cuisine. America might not be so bad after all.

a/n: The fan edits got me. My Elsa x Jack Frost shipper is jumping out for this. I have to say... this is easily the most random thing I've ever written, but it helped break my writer's block, so woohoo! Write weird shit more often, y'all. Also posted on AO3.
America was Nanami’s least favorite place to travel.
Work had taken him all over. He’d seen all of Japan, every nook and cranny—old and new. He’d been to China more times than he could count; his Cantonese was better now than before, and he could make his way around without an attendant. Asia was his domain; he’d grown used to recognizing the surnames and affiliations that mattered, what gestures were niceties in one place, and a way to get mowed down in a fit of rage in another.
America was a different beast altogether. It was a wild and enigmatic land that kept Nanami perpetually on edge and consistently uneasy in his own skin. The places were chaotic—New York and San Francisco. Wall Street and Pacific Heights, most often. Two opposing coasts, filled to the brim with people capitalizing most on those with the least.
White-collar crime and cocaine—that was what Nanami knew of the States. It made him wish he hadn’t learned English; he wouldn’t have to live with as much as he knew if he hadn’t.
Despite not liking it, he’d grown used to it though—the coasts and the insanity that happened on each of them.
The South, in contrast, was wholly unfamiliar territory. He’d never been and wasn’t quite sure what to expect as the steamboat continued down the river, churning water and whistling every few minutes as it continued down the path. He'd heard of the common things: the chambermaids and the sharecropping, the stark divide.
Asia had its things, too, though, so he tried not to judge. He was headed to New Orleans for one simple thing: to meet with the sugar baron and solidify a trade deal. His sugar for their textiles.
Simple, tedious. Safer than sorcery.
The ride into the city was surprisingly comfortable. He lounged in a reclined chair on the deck, his eyes hidden behind shades that concealed his exhaustion from the arduous journey across borders—across seas. The sky painted itself in alluring hues of lavender and rose, casting a serene glow over the waters of the Mississippi, like spilled oil paint.
The air hung heavy with the scent of magnolia blossoms, their perfume an intoxicating blend of sweetness and decay. Spanish moss, soft as bundles of silk, swayed languidly from the cypress trees that lined the riverbank, caressed by the gentle breeze.
The Crescent City, that’s what his boss had called it. The birthplace of jazz.
Nanami couldn’t say he wasn’t intrigued by the prospect of it.
"Please collect your belongings, everyone," a petite deckhand announced, dressed in long corduroy trousers and a cute puffed hat. "We'll be docking in port in five minutes."
Nanami adjusted his glasses, straightening out the legs of his slacks as he made his way to the port side of the boat and watched the city come into view along with the sound. The bustling swing of music was expected, but Nanami hadn't anticipated enjoying it so much. The masterful wail of saxophones, the sultry croon of trumpets, and the deep, resonant throb of bass greeted him as he filed off the boat.
Other men exited the boat before him. Some wore business suits, while others wore Navy uniforms, and a few were in Army attire. Most bobbed their heads along to the music, while some outright danced. People lined the port, leaning on the ropes to catch a glimpse of the arrivals they'd come down to the harbor to greet and welcome home.
The city had a vibe reminiscent of New York, perhaps, but it felt more homey. It felt good in his soul.
"Hello, gentlemen. Good to see you all safe and sound!"
Among the welcoming crowd, a young woman stepped forward with a beaming smile, scanning the group until she spotted Nanami, skipping over to him. Her big blue eyes shone as she looked up at him, tilting her body to get a good look at his face. “You must be Kento, right?” Nanami nodded. She must be the daughter. "Wonderful! My name's Charlotte," she introduced herself, coupled with a sweet giggle. "You can call me Lottie, though. Everybody does."
Nanami tipped his head in a subdued bow, a gesture that the American women found charming.
“Pleased to meet you, Lottie.”
She smiled like a young girl, all cherry pink cheeks and tight lips. It was cute, demure in a way that spelled immaturity rather than modesty.
Not Nanami’s type.
“My daddy told me to come ‘round here to collect you. Is this all you brought with you?” She pointed to his briefcase and the small musette bag on his shoulder. He nodded again. “That’s light. Are you hungry? Have you eaten? That Trans-Pacific is a long way’s journey to get here. I bet you’re starving.”
Nanami hummed, acknowledging her observation. "I could eat. It's been a long day."
"A long few months, I reckon." Lottie placed a comforting hand on his back, gently steering him further into the bustling city. "My good friend works at this little ol’ restaurant down on Lafayette Street. It's just a hop, skip this way, and we can get you some good eatin'. Have you had Cajun before?"
Lottie's words tumbled out rapidly, but Nanami managed to keep up. He shook his head, allowing her to guide him through the lively streets.
"Oh, you're in for a treat then. This here is the best food you'll ever have. Just wait until you try a beignet." She playfully wiggled her brows, her enthusiasm infectious.
Though Nanami didn't understand the term "beignet," he took her excitement as a promising sign. "Whatever tastes good, I'll try."
"That's the spirit!" Lottie gave his suit jacket a friendly pat as they weaved through the crowd, exchanging greetings with any familiar faces she spotted.
“Here we are, mister. Hope you brought a loose pair of britches 'cause you’ll need ‘em.”
Nanami looked up at the building, taking off his shades to read the chalk writing fixed onto the side.
Duke’s. Charming.
The ambiance inside was a perfect mirror of the outdoors. People packed in from wall to wall, and the music from just outside the rear of the restaurant wafted inside, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
“Let’s go sit you down at the bar, get a nice cold one and some grub in that belly. Tiana!”
He sat, slipping off his jacket to drape it across his seat, while his glasses found a home on the bartop. His bag hit the floor with a thud as he dropped it to rest between his feet.
“Hey, Lottie,” a sweet voice floated from the kitchen, followed by the source of it. The woman—slim-figured with rich brown skin—gave Nanami pause. She was beautiful, not unlike many of the women he’d met with her complexion over the years, but she was more, in a way.
Perhaps it was the curls. Nanami had developed a liking for women with thick, coily curls. They framed her face exquisitely.
“Hey, Tia. This is Kento.” Lottie placed a hand on Nanami’s chest as she introduced him. "He's a business friend of Daddy's. Take good care of him for me, will you? I have some business to attend to myself while Daddy’s out at the shooting range."
Lottie winked, and Tiana—Tia, as she called her—responded with a gentle smile.
“Can do,” she assured Lottie before turning her gaze to Nanami. “Give me one second, sugar, and I’ll be right with you.”
Nanami nodded, settling into his seat. A group of soldiers occupied the other end of the bar, rowdy as they sang unfamiliar songs. There was a little curse lazing on the bartop, slumbering against one of the soldier’s arms—surprisingly harmless.
He left it alone.
“Have a nice meal, Mr. Kento. I’ll be ’round to come get you a little later tonight,” Lottie purred with a natural pout, her lips reminiscent of a porcelain doll's. “Don’t have too much fun without me, y’all.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Tiana replied with a warm smile, disappearing into the kitchen to retrieve a full round of plates.
She moved through the bustling restaurant with a graceful rhythm, her deft hands skillfully balancing trays filled with tantalizing cuisine—Creole, Nanami assumed from the building sign. He couldn’t quite understand the difference between that and Cajun, but all the food that passed his nose smelled heavenly all the same.
The spice that clung to the food was present in the air, pleasantly familiar, like the hawker centers in Singapore or the night markets in Taiwan. He still harbored dreams of visiting Malaysia, indulging in street food, experiencing Mamak stalls, exploring mosques, and paying his respects to the land.
His boss informed him he was slated to go to Germany next, for what he didn’t yet know. He could dream about Malaysia in the meantime.
He took out his pocket notebook to jot the thought down.
“Order up!”
Nanami followed Tiana's graceful movements with his eyes, catching glimpses of each dish she served, the way she bantered with the other patrons and had every man in the place hanging off of each word. Her presence was striking and commanding—a woman in charge.
That’s what it was—what made her so beautiful. She was a woman. The kind Nanami did like.
The meticulous care she took in plating the food made it as visually inviting as the enticing aroma was to his senses. Her apron bore the telltale signs of ware of a kitchen in perpetual motion, a fragrant cloud carrying the essence of spices and sweetness floating around her.
As she passed by him their eyes met, and a knowing smile graced her lips.
“So, you’re from out of town, huh?” she said, tawny brown eyes looking up at him through wispy lashes. She cleaned a mug, stuck in a constant stream of motion that made it hard for Nanami to look away.
Nanami nodded, and she placed the cup under the beer dispenser, pouring him a tall glass.
“Thank you,” he acknowledged, accepting the beer when she set it in front of him, accompanied by a shaker of flavored salt.
“How far out of town?”
Nanami hummed thoughtfully, trailing his fingers through the condensation dampening the sides of his mug.
“Asia. Here on business.”
“You’re from Asia?” Tiana's eyes sparkled with intrigue as though she were solving a puzzle. “Which part? Can I guess?”
Nanami jerked one shoulder. “Go ahead.”
“Maybe the Philippines?” she ventured, passing around more beers. “Lots of business types love the Philippines. The soldiers never shut up about it.”
Nanami quirked a brow, aware of why soldiers held such fondness for the Philippines. “No,” he replied, hiding a smile behind his cup. “Try again.”
“China?”
“Nope,” Nanami stated before taking another sip. “Been there a lot, mainly Hong Kong. I’m not from there, though.”
“Japan?” she guessed, her eyes squinting, her brow raised.
Nanami thumped his finger against the glass with a soft clink, clink, clink. “Japan.”
Her triumphant smile was indeed beautiful, with pretty teeth providing a striking contrast against the fullness of her lips and the warm tone of her skin.
“Got a wife hidden over there or something?” she teased, a sweet smirk gracing her lips. “How many kids?”
“No kids, no wife,” Nanami responded softly, feeling the tension in his body from the long journey. “My maternal grandfather was half Dutch, half something else. My grandmother was Japanese, and my mom married a European man in Japan. They stayed there my whole life, so… Japanese.”
“Fascinatin’. What business brings you here? If you can tell me. First time?”
“I can,” Nanami said, taking a few more gulps. The beer tasted different than what he’d had before in the States, less malty and a hint sweeter. “It’s my first time in Louisiana, but not America in general. I’m here meeting another businessman—sugar cane.”
“Ah, that explains Charlotte. I thought she’d just taken a liking to you; she’s always good at finding the handsome ones.”
Nanami perked up at that, a hint of a smile gracing his lips, fueled by the warmth of the beer. Tiana, with practiced ease, poured him another glass.
“I’m handsome, then?”
Tiana rolled her eyes. “You know you are, with your dapper suit and those eyes. Women must throw themselves at you.”
Nanami tilted his head, a little maybe present in the motion. He didn’t indulge nearly as often as he could.
“Have you met Big Daddy yet?” Tiana questioned, and Nanami almost spit out his beer.
He knew enough of what American women liked to call men that they fancied. He’d never heard the term out in the wild, though.
“Oh, excuse me. Eli La Bouff,” Tiana clarified with a teasing laugh, her lips even prettier when she smiled. “Lottie’s father. She calls him Big Daddy, usually. You’ll see why when you do meet him.”
Nanami nodded, a soft chuckle passing through his teeth. People in the South were different, then. Lighter, more hospitable.
Tiana leaned in closer to the bar, narrowing the space between them as she addressed Nanami. “You look hungry. What can I get started for you, sugar?”
Nanami met her gaze, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "Surprise me," he replied, his voice low and smooth. “I prefer savory, but I’m craving something a little sweet.”
Tiana hummed, tapping her chin. “How about blackened salmon with a sweet bourbon glaze, red beans and rice, and piping hot Andouille sausage and chicken gumbo to get you started? We’ll pair it with zucchini, corn maque choux, slow-cooked collard greens, mac and cheese, with some fresh beignets to top you off for dessert,” she said, leaning over to glance at Nanami's stomach, subtly assessing the fit of his dress shirt against his well-defined physique, “if you have any room, that is. How’s that sound?”
“That sounds divine,” Nanami said, solely because of the silky tone Tiana said every word with, not because he knew what any of the dishes were. “You make everything sound good.”
“I made the recipes, so it will be.” She smiled; Nanami returned it. “Wait here, get comfy. You have a long journey ahead of you.”
Nanami leaned back slightly in his seat, his eyes following as she went to put his order in with the kitchen. It was then that he noticed a little curse on her back, small—the size of a quarter. It was the curse of abundance. Blessed for riches through hardship.
A lucky curse, Geto would have called it.
Nanami left it alone, too, sipping his beer as he waited for his food.
He couldn't help but smirk to himself; Tiana’s words took root in his mind. So did she, it seemed.
Do not perceive me for this 🙈 Come say hi on Twitter!

I’m writing a little research paper on ep and one of my main points is his influence on 60s counterculture so i was wondering how u think he affected the decade since u seem to know a lot ab that time !!
Oh wow, I am sooo behind on asks but I couldn't resist this - can I ask if this is for a class or for fun? Elvis was sort of a pioneer of 1950s rock hipster counter culture, but even then, it's hard to suggest Elvis had a one-way influence on counterculture in the in the 1950s or 60s, but rather, that he engaged and changed it, popularizing in the 1950s a sort of androgynous sexuality and style, and breaking the color line by incorporating the Black Southern culture he grew up in into his music and mixing it with country and blue grass, creating a racial hybridity that really reflected where he was from. He had a lot of privilege to do this as a white performer, but also we cannot discount how Elvis' engagement and history in Black spaces, culture and his collaboration with Black writers and musicians violated segregation norms and upset a lot of the white supremacists in the South.
As for the 1960s, there is his legacy in rock and roll and pushing the boundaries of musical expression, sexual and gender norms, and youth culture that I think really impacted the 1960s counterculture's slang, fashion and music and style, not just from his 1950s work but also from his performances in films and coverage of him in the press. His style reflected and influenced all the different counterculture movements of the 1960s, the beatniks, the mods and later psychedelia and hippie culture. He was also a student of alternative spiritualism schools, read a lot of books on different spiritual pursuits and was very involved with the Self-Realization Fellowship in Pacific Palisades (a corner of LA between Santa Monica and Malibu).
Big figures of 1960s counterculture, such as John Lennon, Bob Dylan Simon & Garfunkel and Jim Morrison have all said they were deeply influenced by Elvis, and they were all about 15 years old when he became a big deal in the late 1950s, so I don't think we can underestimate his important influence on them at that stage of their creative taste and development. If you look up early Beatles photos they were all essentially cosplaying as Elvis.... and Bob Dylan talks about Elvis' influence on him in his most recent book.
I recently heard an interview with the author of this book and she makes the argument that Elvis' fashion involved performers like David Bowie and Harry Styles...
Then there is just the recognition and valuing of youth culture in general, and female pleasure, through his films, which were the most visible way people interacted with Elvis in the 1960s, and I think many cultural critics used the way his films appealed to youth and female youth specifically to denigrate him but I think we should exult this, because I love romantic comedy musicals and I hate that they were/are not taken as seriously as films like Beckett because I would argue just as much creative work can go into them.
And of course this brings me to sex! My favorite topic....A lot of people think of the 1950s as a time of conservative sexual politics but this just isn't the case, ask the flappers! I think we can probably trace the popularization of liberated women and sexual politics back to the first wave movement (liberated women have existed as long as time itself.... but it became much more socially acceptable during the 1910s and 20s). And its no accident the suffragate movement happened at the same time women began working in pink collar jobs in droves in the 1890s and after, and when we started to share popular culture through film (precode Hollywood was all SEX) and radio and lots of other historical changes that took place in the 1910s and 20s. If you are interested in female sexuality from a historical perspectiver this book is good.. i started reading t when i started writing fic that took place in the 1960s... but it is also something i was interested in....
I think Elvis' appeal to and the way he very visibly valued female fans and also made visible female sexuality is really really important to the sexual revolution of the 1960s. I think this, along with the way his music and style was very much culturally hybrid between Black and white southern music and the fact that he came from such a poor background was what really scared conservatives and elites. Greil Marcus has talked about how Elvis brought out the racial fears of a lot of people...
I haven't even gotten to the 1968 Singer Presents Elvis (often called the Comeback special but I am a crazy person and it was officially Singer Presents Elvis.... #tv history )
And the way this tv show both reflected and rearticulated social issues like the Civil Rights movement and women's lib... would Elvis say he was pro women's lib? No, but a lot of men at that time might have said one thing, while regularly working with and supporting and dating working women who were clearly at the very least benefiting from women's lib....
This is only the garbled mutterings of a sad history nerd.... I haven't really studied Elvis in an organized way, only as a hobby... but i'm tagging some of the other people on here who I've seen discuss this or who are smart @loving-elvis @missmaywemeetagain @whositmcwhatsit to see what they have to say..... and anyone else who wants to comment should!!!
And we're just not gonna get into his anti- hippie, pro Nixon stance in the 1970s because 15 years on speed makes you do questionable things....

Ray Walston started his acting career as a spear carrier with a local stock company. When the family moved to Houston, Texas, Walston's father wanted to teach him the oil business, but Walston instead joined a traveling repertory company (selling tickets as well as acting).
Prominent in Walston's career was an association with director George Abbott which included appearing in five productions over a span of 20 years. They began working together in 1949, around the time Walston was cast in "South Pacific." Then, in 1955, Walston won a Tony Award as best male musical comedy star in the Abbott production of "Damn Yankees," a role he recreated in the 1958 film version.
Walston came to Hollywood in 1957 for "Kiss Them for Me" (1957). His other films included "The Apartment" (1960), "Portrait in Black" (1960), "Paint Your Wagon" (1969), "The Sting" (1973), "Popeye" (1980), and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (1982, below). The role of Mr. Hand in the latter was originally offered to Fred Gwynne who turned it down due to his objections over the tone of the sexual content in the film.
In 1963, he began the television series "My Favorite Martian," which ran for three years."I never should have done 'My Favorite Martian'. I didn't work in television or film for three years after. Everyone thought of me as a Martian. Do you know what it's like to go to Madrid, Spain, on vacation and have a guy yell out, 'Hey, Martin!' and put antennas behind his head? When that happens, you know your career is dead."
Walston won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series as Henry Bone on the drama series "Picket Fences."
"I'm an actor and that's it -- period. Producers and studios have thrown many things at me over the years: comedy, tragedy, drama, drawing-room comedy. I've managed to keep my head above water in most of these genres, but I don't put myself in any one category like 'comic actor' or 'musical-comedy' actor." (IMDb)
Aloha, Mr. Walston! Happy Birthday!

★ i am an avid remy enjoyer and i think emile picani is cool.
★ i do a lot of canon-deviant headcanons such as race headcanons, pronoun headcanons, and disability headcanons. i am very respectful of these things and do lots of research, mainly because such headcanons are usually projections of myself and my own experiences.
★ i write a lot of sanders sides fanfiction and roleplay ideas, as well as aus. feel free to use anything you'd like for inspiration as long as you give me credit! i've had my work stolen before and it doesn't feel good.
★ my favorite ships (in no particular order) are roceit, prinxiety, logince, literally all poly combos of roman/logan/janus/virgil, intrulogical, analogical, dukeceit, remy/roman, remy/remus, remile, roman/emile, and loceit!
★ my least favorite ships are pretty much all patton ships and remrom. i'm not a remrom destroyer who will burn down your house if you ship remrom (as long as they're like- not explicitly brothers) but i'm an identical twin so the idea of them being in love is super weird to me lmao. i can't take it seriously.
★ i love talking about sanders sides please talk to me about sanders sides! especially if it looks like we have a lot in common!

One of my favorite games outside of The Simbs 4 is Baldurs Gate 3. I, a basic bitch, switch between romancing Shadowheart and Karlach from save to save. My favorite boy character is Mr. Blade of the Frontiers Wyll Ravenguard I feel like we'd be pretty good friends and also he seems like an ideal swing dancing partner
I'm a scorpio
My favorite musicals in no particular order are The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Hadestown, and South Pacific

I’ve been told I have bde even though I am lacking very much so in the d department
I’ve been playing sims since the wee old age of 11
I constantly have the most random songs stuck in my head. Right now it would be push it to the limit from that one jump rope movie on Disney Channel

July 27 - Rice County School, Wuling Green Tunnel, and Aboriginal Museum
Today was a great day because we finally were able to get back out and explore Taiwan. Despite the fact it was raining all day, everyone was still excited. The first place we went to was the rice county school. It really ended up being more like a small museum. We walked around and learned all about the different kinds of rice and process it takes to get from farm to table. Completely unrelated to the school, there was also a cat and an old piano there. The cat obviously stole the show, as it should. I was also excited to see the piano, cause I haven’t played any music since leaving the states. Me and Jack sat and took turns playing some songs while we waited for the rest of the group.
After we departed we had to make one stop before going to lunch, and it was the Wuling green tunnel. It’s a shame it was raining so much, because we weren’t able to stay out for long. Either way, it was still nice to drive down the road and take in the scenery.
After lunch we went off schedule to check out the Prehistoric museum. I was surprised at how different it was from the indigenous people museum despite the two having some overlapping topics. The museum also had a Pacific Islander section, and my personal favorite, a natural history section. Being from Florida we don’t deal with plate tectonics at all. In Taiwan it’s of course a much different story, so I enjoyed reading and learning about the formation of the island and all the ways it is affected today.
Later that night, we swung by 7-eleven to grab dinner again. However, having eaten almost only convenience store food for the past four days I was begging to go a bit insane. So I skipped the food there and walked to find a restaurant with some other people. We ended up stumbling on a nice place nearby. The food and drinks were good, definitely better than anything from 7-eleven, but the best part was the pig they had outside. It was so nice and would oink and wag its tail when we gave it attention. Between all the cats and the pig I saw today, it was a good day to see cute animals.
The topology of Taiwan is something I find very interesting and definitely wasn’t expecting to be able to learn about on this trip. To my surprise, the museum we went to today had an entire subsection dedicated to the formation of the island. I’ve taken a few classes at UF that deal with geology and plate tectonics, so I was familiar with the processes that lead to islands like Taiwan, but I was excited to learn the specifics. Taiwan was formed by a process known as orogenesis, which is when mountains form from plates converging. For Taiwan’s case, it was the Eurasian and Philippine Sea Plates. According to the museum, the eastern coastal range is still moving at a speed of 6-13 cm a year in relation to the central range, which is the reason Taiwan experiences so many earthquakes. According to google, there were two detected earthquakes in the past two days, one in the northeast and another off the coast to the south. Hopefully we don’t get a big one while we’re still here!

HI NIC I'M GOING TO GO WILD WITH THE QUESTIONS so feel free to skip this in case it's overwhelming or anything! favorite books? favorite music genre, song, and artists? favorite season and month? do you prefer cats or dogs (or neither, or both!) what are your hobbies? what's your favorite show? what is your least favorite show because it didn't meet your expectations? who is your favorite character in every fandom you're in? what headcanons do you have for your favorite characters? CAN I HEAR MORE ABOUT YOUR LOTF OC IF YOU HAVE MORE CONTENT OF HIM? (sorry i just adore him!)
KUNI ILY THANK YOU SO MUCH
favorite books: lord of the flies, les mis, good omens, enders game, and the house on the cerulean sea
favorite music genre: i like indie soft punk, anarchist early 2000s rock, and musical theatre!!
favorite artists: i adore green day, death cab for cutie, queen, aaron tveit, ben platt, mccafferty, marina, lincoln, cavetown, ricky montgomery, and penelope scott!
favorite songs: good old fashioned lover boy, riptide, trees, be nice to me, lotta true crime, american idiot, basket case, my heart is buried in venice, line without a hook, boys will be bugs, paul, twin size mattress, drink with me, stars, are you satisfied, i will follow you into the dark, the village, and so many more!!!
favorite season: late fall/early winter
cats or dogs: dogs i guess!! i love both but i’ve always been more of a dog guy
hobbies: art!! drawing, painting, sculpting, writing, singing, acting, etc
favorite show: GOOD OMENS!!! i also enjoy our flag means death, the umbrella academy, and the simpsons
least favorite show: not a tv show, but south pacific (the movie/musical). the ending is so wild and sudden and poorly done!
favorite characters for each fandom: aziraphale (good omens), simon (lord of the flies), grantaire (les mis), alai (enders game), lucius (ofmd), five hargreeves (umbrella academy)
character headcanons:
lotf:
simon survived his wounds on the island, and was secretly cared for by roger (not really “cared” for, just “kept alive”). however, he is left partially paralyzed in one leg and has chronic pain because of it. when they return to civilization, he uses a mobility aid
the choir doubles as their schools honorary gsa
jack is openly trans and jokingly blames transphobia whenever he doesn’t get his way. this infuriates piggy
simons guilty pleasure is fast food. he has strong opinions about what makes a good french fry
maurice makes british jokes and sam has to gently remind him that they are all in fact british
good omens:
crowley has trouble seeing because of his snake eyes. he misses the stars dearly. once, aziraphale brought him to an observatory on the top of a mountain and crowley cried because the stars were just bright enough for him to see
crowley also gets excited whenever humans discover new telescopes or ways to take pictures of other galaxies because it means people are getting closer to seeing more of his creations
aziraphale invented macadamia nuts (reasons: they’re buttery and soft and light and are really nice to bite and i like them)
les mis:
grantaire makes music. 3 am guitar recordings and random voice memos of lyric ideas. most are about enjolras
as a smart person and a victim of police brutality, valjean is a firm acab believer. he likes giving large anonymous locations to the les amis
marius is the token straight friend, even though he himself is a trans man. there’s such a lack of cishet folks in their friend group that the token straight is literally queer
enjolras is terribly allergic to cats but pets grantaires pet cat anyway. he suffers constantly
other hcs about my lotf oc: he likes swimming but hates the feeling of dried salt water on his body, he likes to paint his nails, he chews his hair and nails when he’s nervous (someone needs to introduce this boy to oral stim toys), and his favorite color is baby blue!
again, thank you so much for the asks!!! <333

Hi! I'm a watcher from YouTube who then moved to Tumblr because it looked really wholesome from your shorts. It's a bit intimidating tbh.
Anyway, for the question? Have you watched/participated in any musicals/plays, and if so, which ones? Which were your favorite?
I did participate in my community center's theater program when I was a young teenager! They put on plays and talent shows and lots of musicals, and I had a lot of fun acting with my sister and brother in them. I performed in Grease, South Pacific, and High School Musical!
I think HSM was my favorite, because I remember *really* wanting the lead role of Gabriella, because she got to sing all the best songs, but it went to someone else, and I was a small secondary role, which made me really sad... but thankfully I got over it. I became good friends with my understudy, and I got a small crush on the boy I was partnered to dance with in the show. I was too scared to ever make anything out of those crush feelings, and I doubt he was ever aware of how I felt. Oh well, they still made for great memories, all those weekly rehearsals, remembering dance choreography and lines. It always felt so chaotic, but then the performances always managed to go surprisingly well. ^_^

DEobrah Kerr and Yul Brynner have fire chemistry
3.Sound of Music 1965
Of the big screen Rodgers and Hammerstein films this is by far the best

What’s your favorite musical? (If you have one)
Not to sound like a stereotypical tumblrite, but Hamilton!
Though, actually, I didn't listen to the soundtrack until after I saw it performed live (I was very, very, very lucky to have been able to go). Soundtrack pales in comparison to the live show tbqh. Still cool, but ain't the same.
I've only seen a handful of musicals. I don't watch musical movie adaptations because I believe in experiencing the medium as it was created to be experienced. So I've seen My Fair Lady, South Pacific, Singing in the Rain, classics like that, almost all of 'em from community or school plays. Played in the pit orchestra for Peter Pan and The Secret Garden.
My meme-y answer is Cats. Never watched it. Actually hate the sound of the music in that show. But the bizarre appearance of those cats, and the completely stupid lore, is mesmerizing ROTFLH. It's EASY to get sucked into discussing all the characters. The Cats fandom has fun, y'all, and I love watching 'em. "Are you more like Grizabella or Skimbleshanks?" Let's talk about that.
#Hamilton#Cats musical#ask#ask me#blabbing Haddock#about me#I guess hahahahaha#music#non-dragons#ask meme#as a kid I would've said Phantom of the Opera for the music#and the music still slaps#if we start talking about operas then La Boheme fo sho
