I wanna learn to cook a bit better, and I like learning about other cultures through vtubers, and thus I got the idea to try cooking stuff from my faves' countries! Since there was a South African restaurant I wanted to try the other day and didn't get to, today's experiment (in careful consultation with the Nekocord) is BOBOTIE. Made with turkey because I don't eat beef and the grocery pickup subbed out my chicken >_>

Bruce Jack Wines
We are a winemaker-driven, family business and we believe the concept of “value” is as important when enjoying an everyday wine as it is when tasting something rare and very expensive. We take our winecraft very seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We believe in having fun, but we also believe in standing up for the underdog and doing the right thing. We believe the best wine always portrays the hallmarks of authenticity and honesty. We believe wine should add joy to life.
The Jack Journal
When Bruce Jack’s not making wine, he’s thinking about ways in which he can bring wine to life. To Bruce the world of wine is a way of exploring almost everything else in life, from religion, to science, to socio-political angst, to geology, to imagination, to breathtaking adventure, to rich history, captivating wildlife, to business, to cultural eccentricities, to inspiring art, music, soulful poetry, food, beer, social upliftment, the environment, surfing… to the very source of life. Thus, Bruce’s Jack Journal was born, an eclectic magazine about the world that wine tries to live in. If we are inspired by what comes out of a wine bottle, what inspires the people that drink it? The newly released Jack Journal Volume 7 is available at Exclusive Books, selected Woolworths, Spar, Pick ‘n Pay and CNA stores.

Is South Africa expensive for American tourists?
A Cost Guide for American Tourists: Navigating South Africa
Exploring the vibrant landscapes and rich cultures of South Africa is a dream for many travelers. From the iconic Table Mountain in Cape Town to the wild safaris of Kruger National Park, this diverse nation offers an unforgettable experience. However, one question often looms large for American tourists: Is South Africa expensive?
Let's delve into this topic and provide a comprehensive guide for American travelers planning their African adventure.
Tumblr media
Understanding Currency Exchange
The first step in assessing the cost of traveling to South Africa is understanding the currency exchange rate. The South African Rand (ZAR) is typically weaker than the US Dollar (USD), which means American tourists may find their money stretches further in South Africa. It's wise to monitor exchange rates and plan accordingly.
Accommodation Costs
Accommodation options in South Africa vary widely, catering to different budgets and preferences. From luxury lodges to budget-friendly hostels, there's something for everyone. Expect to pay more for accommodations in popular tourist destinations like Cape Town and the Garden Route, while rural areas and smaller towns may offer more affordable options.
To get an idea of prices and to book accommodation, websites like Wild Voyager offer a range of options tailored to different budgets and preferences. Wild Voyager provides valuable insights into African tours and accommodations, helping travelers make informed decisions.
Dining and Food Costs
South Africa boasts a diverse culinary scene influenced by its multicultural population. Dining out can range from inexpensive street food to fine dining experiences. Traditional dishes like braai (barbecue) and bobotie (a savory meat dish) are both delicious and budget-friendly options.
To save money on food, consider dining at local eateries and markets rather than tourist hotspots. Also, self-catering accommodations can help reduce expenses by allowing you to prepare your meals.
Transportation Expenses
Getting around South Africa can be affordable, especially if you're willing to use public transportation. Major cities like Cape Town and Johannesburg have reliable bus and train networks, while intercity buses offer a cost-effective way to travel between destinations.
Renting a car is another popular option for exploring South Africa, providing flexibility and convenience. However, fuel costs and rental fees should be factored into your budget.
Activity and Sightseeing Costs
South Africa offers a plethora of activities and attractions, from wildlife safaris to wine tasting tours. While some experiences can be pricey, there are also plenty of free or low-cost activities to enjoy. Hiking in national parks, visiting museums, and exploring historical sites are all budget-friendly options.
For those interested in wildlife encounters, safari tours are a must-do experience. Prices vary depending on the duration and level of luxury, but there are options to suit different budgets. Booking tours in advance and comparing prices can help you find the best deals.
Safety and Health Considerations
While South Africa offers incredible experiences, it's essential to prioritize safety and health during your travels. Certain areas may have higher crime rates, so researching safety tips and staying informed about local conditions is crucial.
Healthcare standards in South Africa are generally high, but travel insurance is recommended to cover any unexpected medical expenses. Additionally, vaccinations may be required depending on your travel itinerary, so consult with a healthcare provider before your trip.
Conclusion
In conclusion, South Africa offers a diverse and rewarding travel experience for American tourists. While certain expenses like accommodations and activities can add up, careful planning and budgeting can help you make the most of your trip without breaking the bank. By leveraging resources like Wild Voyager and being mindful of exchange rates, you can enjoy all that South Africa has to offer within your budget constraints.
Whether you're marveling at the majestic wildlife or savoring the flavors of local cuisine, your African adventure is sure to be unforgettable. So pack your bags, embrace the spirit of adventure, and get ready to explore the wonders of South Africa!

From bustling cities to serene countryside, here’s a comprehensive guide to the best places to visit in South Africa, along with insights into its culture, food scene, and navigating the roads as a foreigner.
Culture: A Tapestry of Diversity
South Africa’s cultural landscape is as diverse as its geography. With 11 official languages and a melting pot of ethnicities, the country celebrates its rich heritage through art, music, and traditions. Explore the vibrant neighborhoods of Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban, where you’ll encounter a fusion of cultures, from Zulu and Xhosa to Afrikaans and Indian influences.
Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in local traditions by attending cultural festivals, such as the vibrant Cape Town Carnival or the colorful Ndebele festivals in Mpumalanga. Visit historical sites like the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg and Robben Island in Cape Town to gain deeper insights into the country’s complex past and its journey towards reconciliation.
Cuisine: A Gastronomic Adventure
South Africa’s culinary scene is a reflection of its diverse cultural heritage. Indulge in a culinary journey that tantalizes the taste buds with a fusion of flavors and influences. Sample traditional dishes like Bobotie, a savory minced meat dish with spices and egg topping, or Bunny Chow, a Durban specialty featuring curry served in a hollowed-out loaf of bread.
For seafood lovers, the coastal regions offer an abundance of fresh catches, including crayfish, snoek, and kingklip. Pair your meal with a glass of South African wine, renowned for its quality and variety, or savor a refreshing Rooibos tea, a local herbal infusion.
Best Motorways for Road Trips

Driving as a Foreigner
Driving in South Africa offers the freedom to explore at your own pace, but it’s essential to familiarize yourself with local regulations and road conditions. Foreign visitors can drive in South Africa using their valid driver’s license from their home country, provided it’s printed in English or accompanied by an official English translation.
While not mandatory, it’s advisable to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) before arriving in South Africa, especially if your native license is not in English. The IDP serves as a translation of your license and can facilitate communication with law enforcement officials if needed.
Applying for an International Driving Permit (IDP) in South Africa
To apply for an International Driving Permit South Africa, follow these steps:
Visit the Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) website or a local AA office.
Complete the IDP application form and provide the required documentation, including a valid passport, driver’s license, and passport-sized photographs.
Pay the applicable fee for the IDP issuance.
Once approved, you’ll receive your International Driving Permit, valid for one year.
With your International Driving Permit in hand, you’re ready to hit the road and embark on an unforgettable journey through the diverse landscapes and cultural wonders of South Africa.
Conclusion
From the vibrant streets of its cities to the untamed wilderness of its national parks, South Africa offers a captivating blend of culture, cuisine, and natural beauty. Whether you’re exploring the bustling metropolis of Johannesburg, savoring a traditional braai under the African sun, or embarking on a scenic road trip along the Garden Route, South Africa promises an adventure of a lifetime for travelers from around the world.
