Deucalion: Why do you feel like your opinions are inalienably the best and the rest of us shouldn’t bother. Sebastien: Because only I matter and the rest of you are phantoms conjured by my mind to keep me from insanity.

Hihi! Because I‘m Chinese, I enjoy a ton of holidays that the majority of you don’t know about. One is the Mid Autumn Festival, which traditionally is a harvest festival, but is most known for being believed to be the day of the year when the moon is at its brightest. This year, it’s on the 17th of September, so I figured I would do a 7 day countdown series to the festival, with 3 of my mutuals *cough* @maolonq @rmbme-imxoxo -@somerandomchaosmachine *cough*who will make a post on the day of.
Today, we're kicking off the series with the classic Chang E story. This story has evolved for over 2000 years, appearing first in the West Han Dynasty.
Chang E had a very honorable husband(Hou Yi)who was a master of archery(he shot down 9 suns). For his archery feats, the West Queen Mother gave him 2 immortality pills(or elixirs or pearls) as a reward as he saved the people of China multiple times. One version says a thief snuck into the house while Hou Yi was out hunting, and swallowed both pills to protect them. Another says she was curious and wanted to see what would happen if she consumed both pills. The story ends with her either being punished by being sent to the moon, or she was just “too” immortal so she floated up to the moon. On the moon, it is usually stated that Chang E lives in the (cold) Moon Palace with the Moon/Jade Rabbit. The Moon Palace supposedly houses Wu Gang, a Chinese version of Sisyphus who has to chop down an ever growing tree eternally. In some other versions of the Chang E legend, it is said that every Mid Autumn Festival, Chang E is allowed to descend from the moon to visit her husband, who (when he was alive) greeted her with a table full of food, especially mooncakes(which were her favorite).
In one poem written by Li Shang Yin, he describes Chang E upon the moon. The reader gazes upon a veil of smoke and wind which obscures candlelight. As the stars and the Milky Way descend,Chang E regrets ever stealing the elixirs *cough* many different versions *cough* as she can only sit in the palace, in solitude.(the solitude part is really important)
That is my take on the Millennia-old legend. If I made a mistake, please tell me and have fun!

Derek: You're really cool. I think I have feelings for you. Stiles: A black windowless van with no license plate has been following me the last month. It's parked over there. You see it too, right?
