this post is just some info on yesterday's DA:TV Fandom party at SDCC. :>
What was this party? [Here] is a post with the pre-event information that was made available. [Here] is a pre-event article that contains an interview with the organizer. And [this article] on the event contains some additional information, like on the versions of this party held in previous years, which helps for context. There was no new DA:TV information of note from the party
Links to Fandom (the company's) Twitter account, their Instagram. If you look at these (including on the Instagram Stories), you can see some pictures and stuff from the party. for those interested in watching a video version of some of these, Ghil Dirthalen posted a video recording that she made last night of Fandom the company's Instagram posts [here]. there are also more pictures and stuff from the party that you can see if you click through to [some of] the source links below here in the rest of this post.
As was previously reported the other week, Jason Derulo headlined the party (like as in a gig). Here's an image of him there [source] (the him singing DA stuff part was a joke tho btw hh). They considered having an orchestra because of DA's musical score but they got Jason Derulo
One of the party props was a big background of the DA:TV key art [source]. Here you can see the DA:TV logo on another backdrop. [source] This tweet contains both of these backdrops from a different angle
There was also an archway prop based on this DA:TV key art, and big screens which projected images from the game (including of Varric and this screenshot) [source]. It looks like these images were also projected to television screens? [source]
This tweet contains the questions and the answers to the DA-themed scavenger hunt (transcription of this at the end of this post), as well as a partial look at the map layout of the party
This is how photos taken in the DA themed photo booth look (this DA:TV screenshot was the backdrop) [source]
There was a VIP section at the party [source]. Gary McKay, the General Manager of BioWare, was there [source], as were John Epler and Zach Mendez (Lucanis) [source], Ali Hillis (Harding) [source], Nick Boraine (Emmrich) [source], Kari a BioWare Brand Director [source], Jessica Clark (Neve) [source] and Corinne Busche [source]. Erika Ishii (Rook) also visited but got kicked out of VIP hh [source]. Some cosplayers from the DA community were also personally invited by BioWare & PR at EA Games and attended! like Ladytoxie as Bellara ^^ [source, two], and some celebrities also, such as Doug Jones [source]
Ladytoxie mentioned that they will be posting a Vlog of their experience and coverage of the event, "probably next week" [source], having documented it at the time [source] (tysm!!)
Ladytoxie reported that it was a good, memorable experience and that everyone was lovely [source]
There was supposed to be some DA:TV-related pins and lanyards being handed out at the party, but these got stuck at customs, so there wasn't any goodies being handed out [source]
Links to some more images from the party: [one], [two], [three]

Dragon Ball (1986)ドラゴンボール
Director: Daisuke Nishio Screenwriter: Akira Toriyama Starring: Masako Nozawa / Nori Yanami / Tsuruhiro Mi Genre: Comedy / Animation / Fantasy / Adventure Official site: en.dragon-ball-official.com Country/Region of Production: Japan Language: Japanese Date: 1986-02-26 (Japan) / April 26, 1989 / February 7, 1996 / April 5, 2009 / July 5, 2015 Number of Seasons: 6 Number of episodes: 806 Episode length: 25 minutes Number of Movies: 29 Number of Games: 111 Also known as: Dragonball / Dragon Ball Z / Dragon Ball GT / Dragon Ball Z Kai / Dragon Ball Super IMDb: tt0088509 Type: Reimanging / Appropriation
Summary:
Earth, known as the Dragon World (ドラゴンワールド) and designated as "Planet 4032-877" by the celestial hierarchy, is the main setting for the entire Dragon Ball series, as well as related media such as Dr. Slump, Neko Majin, and Jaco the Galactic Patrolman. It is mainly inhabited by Earthlings (地球人, Chikyūjin), a term used inclusively to refer to all of the intelligent races native to the planet, including humans, anthropomorphic beings, and monsters. Starting from the Dragon Ball Z series, various extraterrestrial species such as the Saiyans (サイヤ人, Saiya-jin) and Namekians (ナメック星人, Namekku-seijin) have played a more prominent role in franchise media.
The narrative of Dragon Ball predominantly follows the adventures of the Saiyan Son Goku; upon meeting Bulma at the beginning of the series, the two embark on an adventure to gather the seven Dragon Balls, a set of orbs that summon the wish-granting dragon Shenlong. Goku later receives martial arts training from Kame-Sen'nin, meets his lifelong friend Kuririn, and enters the Tenkaichi Budōkai (天下一武道会, lit. "Strongest Under the Heavens Martial Arts Tournament") to fight the world's strongest warriors. When Piccolo Daimao, and later his offspring Piccolo, tries to conquer the planet, Goku receives training from Earth's deities to defeat them. Goku later sacrifices his life to save the planet from his estranged brother Raditz, but is revived after training in the afterlife under the tutelage of the North Kaio to combat the other incoming Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta. He later becomes a Super Saiyan and defeats the powerful alien tyrant Freeza; this sets the tone of the rest of the series, with each enemy the characters face becoming stronger than the last, requiring them to attain further training.
Dragon Ball Super establishes that the franchise is set in a multiverse composed of twelve numbered universes, with the majority of the Dragon Ball series taking place in Universe 7 (第7宇宙, Dai-Nana Uchū, lit. "Number Seven Universe"). Each universe is ruled by a number of benevolent and malevolent deities, respectively called Kaioshin and Gods of Destruction who are appointed by a higher being called Zeno, who watches over the multiverse.

shoutout to this fanart that made me wonder
Which species of dragons would our beloved huevos be?
(I'm going to use pokémon as base. Do not question. Also dragon and flying type are implicit on that oneKAKAK)
Alright, so!
RICHINHAS! already said in a stream that he wanted to hatch as a water dragon, and I think that's SO in character for him, while is SO ironic since he hates bath
PRINCESS SUNNY! I think it's kinda obvious but Sunny would fit a fire dragon sm. I mean, look at my girl. She would be flying around throwing fire balls at everything and burning everything down (do not blame her she's just a girl!!)
Also, nice time to say: I always thought abt Empy and Sunny as a sun and moon duo. Also, I think it just suits her and her personality a lot. So, yeah, Ice Empanada!!
Little Lullah! Well, she canonically attracts animals like the disney princess she is (source: QSMP wiki) and I always thought her as a nature dragon! But psychic as well!! Imagine her playing her flute or her maracas as the animals just follow her with curiosity.
Dapper!! Ghost and dark. Besides the obvious reasons, I think it's really funny he just scarying people around w/ the power of the grim reaper behold him
Our baby boy Ramón! Oh, well... I could say steel. But I also could say fighting. And electric. So... the three I guess?
Pomme: NOTRE LÉGENDE!! well, I always thought about Pomme as Ice type, like Empanada. But on the other side, Fighting and Fairy would be wholesome! (Also, because of Bad being her parent as well, she would be Ghost type too. But who knows!)
CHAY! OUR LITTLE WARRIOR!* (*Hey guys!! A nice soul told me that Chayanne said that he wanted to be a water dragon. (Also I JUST noticed the relation with the little duck float as well. Oops.)
LEO! LEONARDA! LEO BONITA!! I always saw Leo as a fire dragon, and now, I would add psychic as well!
PEPITUX!! I confess I thought a lot about the little one, But then, there you go! Water Pepito type! I guess Pepito clothing being canonically a sailor uniform helped me a bitKAKAKAKK
춘식: I honestly don't know that much about that young man, but he gives me water and psychic vibes!
For now, that's it! Any doubt, ask away!!

Dumbass Dragon ball z stans: well actually he’s not human so he can’t be a racist caricature. Everybody knows that a caricature has to be human in order to be offensive!
Also dragon ball z stans:
And these racist trash ass freaks wonder why people bullied them and called them fucking losers.
Also, lol using a FAN WIKI as a valid source for the notes to prove the op wrong. Fucking idiots.

Whilst the Tuffle story isn't perfect, I'll note the fandom makes it far WORSE.
Like look at Tvtropes, it claims that Lychee was lying about the Tuffles treating the saiyans well in the "Jerkass Has a Point/ Dragon Ball" Page and Vegeta proves it when this isn't true at all in the work and is basically just something the fandom made it up almost wholesale.
In Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, far from just Lychee, claiming that the Tuffles were treated unjustly, King Kai says the Tuffles welcomed the Saiyans onto their planet with images of the two shaking hands and Tuffles holding welcome signs.
King Kai than continues that after years of peace, King Vegeta rose to power and convinced the saiyans to wipe out the tuffles in a sudden attack. Every hero, but Vegeta, is horrified by this, with Goku openly saying he feels sorry for them, only Vegeta says tuffles deserved death because they were a weak race.
Now Vegeta does say at one point whilst attacking Lychee that the Tuffles always looked down on the saiyans, but no one is shown agree or even reacting to this, with Goku continuing to think the Saiyans actions to the Tuffles were wrong.
Clearly Vegeta's one random line being thrown out there is not this unquestionable source that the fandom treats it is, it also contradicts King Kai and Goku's stances as well.
Yet every fan work, I've ever seen, covering it, has the tuffles as the unambiguous villains that deserved genocide from the unquestionably heroic saiyans.
Even the wiki calls it "Saiyan/Tuffle War" as opposed to Frieza killing the saiyans being called "genocide of the Saiyans".
One last thing on Tvtropes stance of "Tuffles deserved genocide" stance is this entry on Kick The Dog For King Vegeta on the saiyan character page.
In Plan to eradicate the Saiyans, King Kai says King Vegeta convinced the Saiyans to wipe out their neighbors, the Tuffles, after years of peaceful coexistence. This talk is accompanied by a picture of Tuffles shaking hands with Saiyans and another picture of Barbaric-looking Saiyan males chasing after screaming Tuffle women in civilian clothes. Though admittedly, it's a little hard to tell exactly how much of his dog-kicking is and isn't canon, or if it was even even dog kicking to begin with.
Note the bolded links to "The Dog Bites Back", because killing old men, women, kids, babies and other civilians is "fighting back against your oppressors" apparently...
Oof. Protagonist-centered morality strikes again.
(There's no need to defend the Saiyans. The Saiyans are supposed to suck. It's kind of their thing.)

Hello there! Those are good in-depth character and ability examinations and explanations! I'm very happy to get to look into them!
I have a question regarding the Wolf Fang Fist. It's been a while since I've looked back to see it, but you said it functions similarly to the Kaio-ken technique, in that it increases Yamcha's strength, reaction time, and senses. Is there a particular source you're using for reference on this info, or is it an observation you made? I tried looking at the Dragon Ball Wiki, but I can't find anything about that bit of info.
Hey! And thank you!
To answer your question... There is no particular source that states what I claim. The similarity between the Wolf Fang Fist & Kaio-Ken is just an observation I made. However, what's said and shown in the manga is what lead me to the conclusion that the two techniques are similar.
A similar example is Instant Transmission. The Yardrats created the Instant Transmission technique that Goku knows, while the Supreme Kai have a similar teleportation technique that is far more advanced & doesn't rely on pinpointing the energy of someone you know.
Another instance is from the DBS manga continuity where Vegeta learns Forced Spirit Fission which is a technique similar to the Genki Dama/Spirit Bomb. There are other techniques that are similar to each other despite being developed separately & at different times. The Wolf Fang Fist & Kaio-Ken appear to be one of many instances of techniques being similar.
Both the Wolf Fang Fist & Kaio-Ken are techniques where the user enhances their battle power and physical abilities without becoming super buff like Roshi's Full Power form or SSJ Grade 3 & losing speed. The Kaio-Ken & Wolf Fang Fist share a similar principle to that, but they are techniques that not only increase strength but also speed.
WOLF FANG FIST:
The Wolf Fang Fist technique is shown in Dragon Ball chapter 8 & 37. The Neo Wolf Fang Fist is in 117. Yamcha channels a wolf spirit and his physical abilities are enhanced. We have never seen him use the technique combined with a ki blast. Yamcha becomes faster and stronger & reacts quicker. But as for how great of an increas this is? That is unknown.
KAI-O-KEN:
Similarly, the Kaio-Ken technique enhances the physical abilities, but also energy attacks. It is performed by controlling the ki in the body for a burst of energy.
The regular Kaio-Ken is like an advanced version of Wolf Fang Fist that can be multiplied. This is why I at times call the Wolf Fang Fist the "mortal Kaio-Ken." Same principles, but the technique King Kai taught is much more advanced.
I think it would've been cool to see Yamcha create a Wolf Fang Fist with multipliers after he trained under King Kai. Less stress on the body than the Kaio-Ken, but still gives an increase in power. But since enemies became so strong, not even techniques like the Kaio-Ken would have been much help for any character. Is it really worth it to damage yourself while fighting an enemy who is far stronger than Super Saiyans? The risk is way higher than the reward.
EXTRA:
Could Yamcha have possibly used a his Wolf Fang Fist technique or a twist on it after the Freeza Saga? Yes. Because most techniques don't have to be said in order to activate them. So, it is possible that Yamcha used an advanced version of the Wolf Fang Fist technique on the Cell Jr. he fought. But the Cell Jrs. can defeat Super Saiyans so... Using it against an opponent that strong doesnt add up to much.
The next time Yamcha used something like the Wolf Fang Fist was in "Yo! Son Goku & His Friends Return!" where a wolf spirit appeared behind him when he used the Spirit Ball technique to save Bulma, Puar, & Oolong. So lukely a mixture of the Wolf Fang Fist & Spirit Ball. Sadly, Yamcha doesn't fight in DBS even though he has regained his fighting spirit was shown in the OVA "Yo! Son Goku & His Friends Return!" & in the Tournament of Power Saga of the DBS anime (which was frustratingly played up for mediocre comedy). But we do get a scene in DBS EP 70 when Yamcha uses the "Wolf Fang Pitch."
I hope we see him use the Wolf Fang Fist again in the main series and that he has advanced it by learning how to multiply it or something.

『Dragon Quest XI∶ Echoes of an Elusive Age』 2D Mode
When Dragon Quest XI was released in 2017, it could be experienced with three distinct graphical styles across two different consoles. The PlayStation 4 version features beautiful HD visuals developed in Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4. As always, character designs were handled by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama.
While neither is as technologically impressive as the PS4 version, the Nintendo 3DS version features two different ways to visually experience the JRPG. The first version features low-resolution 3D graphics featuring chibi character models.
Additionally, nostalgic Dragon Quest fans can also experience the eleventh entry with SNES style 2D graphics. This mode was handled by a separate developer, ArtePiazza.
The 3DS version of XI was released exclusively in Japan and while the 2D mode would eventually become globally accessible via other consoles, the low resolution polygonal graphics remain a feature that's exclusive to the 3DS version.
Two years later, Dragon Quest XI would receive an updated release titled∶ Dragon Quest XI S∶ Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Stadia.
This new revision features updated versions of the HD graphics from the original PS4 release and the 3DS' 16-bit version.
Now being available for HD consoles, the 2D version allows players to see the sprite work in crystal clear detail. Additionally, the aspect ratio has been widened compared to the 3DS version.
In my opinion, the only real downgrade would be the font used. The new on-screen text ditches the 3DS' pixelated font in favor of a more traditional typeface.

Genshin 3.6 Livestream — quick notes
Uh oh… purple and white…
I’m kind of focused on other lore shennanigans right now so I don’t have much to say on the livestream (for once), but here’s a few random thoughts for funsies.
Pari
Oh hey, Sorush looks like the door at the sanctuary… kind of…
Pari seem similar to a Seelie… like how the sanctuary door seems similar to the dragonspine domain’s floor diagram…. I wonder if Pari, Seelie, and Devs (abyss monsters) will turn out to be 3 variations of the same source.
Devs/Abyss Monsters: festered dream (chaotic jnana energy… the “unseelie”)
Seelie: grounded dream (cast out of heaven, trapped on earth. Regular transient dream energy)
Pari: ascended dream (maximized Jnana energy)
Anyways, that’s really it on that topic for now. Wiki Links I haven’t really looked into yet but seem related:
Peri — Sorush — Perispirit (the last one is unlikely, but since we don’t know much about Pari/Sorush’s purpose yet… and I’ve apparently had the tab open on my phone on Perispirits since Oct 2021… dropping the link in case maybe it finally matters 😅)
Abyss
The portal is a triangle in a circle at first… familiar much? Yes, yes it is. (Think darshan logos and iron coins)
Red + Blue = Purple… yay color coordinated triangle
More seriously (but only a little), the stars in the portal look closer to the starry pattern seen when walking on the eternal oasis water than anywhere else… imo.
Speaking of portals… is the dendro energy holding the portal shut? Hm…
Apep
I’m not going to go over the helix and spiral moves because I think we all get the point that spirals and helixes matter.
Instead…
LOOK AT THE SHADOWS ON THE WALL
Is Apep in the wall? In the ball? Does Apep exist at all? … 🤡
LOOK AT APEP DISSOLVING MATERIAL FOR SUSTENANCE
This part could actually be more important than it seems because it isn’t sucking the life out of the plant like the withering would. Instead, itseems to be dissolving the plant for the material it is made out of… which per theory of forms, is elemental energy… which makes sense for an elemental dragon originating from the pre-ordered elements era…
Ok yeah that’s all I got right now… thanks for reading!

its so weird that shin is the only supreme kai without a canon name (well elder kai too). technically 'shin' was just an alias he made up for the tournament to hide his identity, and everybody calls him 'supreme kai', even other deities. the wiki has one of his alt names listed as 'Neptune' weirdly enough but theres no context.
Huh? You mean in 25th Budokai? I guess I have to rewatch stuff for more context. But, you know... this is Dragon Ball where everything gets constantly retconned to a point that it makes King Kai look line an insane bullshitter.
Anyway, U7's Supreme Kai did gradually got named Shin!!
Even official sources calls him Shin! (シン)
Before that Supreme Kais were all mysterious, I guess it was originally intended to keep him all mysterious but that just changed.
I used to call Shin just "Kaioshin" back then (oh god I'm getting old) because the fandom did. lol
No comment on Elder Kai... But it could be possible his name is Shin too since he's his ancestor. (This is also what I headcanon!)
I also like to add this:
Did you know that Kibito comes from Tsukibito which is Japanese for Attendant... Yeah. The naming wasn't very original to begin with.
Originally they were supposed to look like this too:
Blue Kibito feels so cursed for some reason....
Conclusion: The Dragon Ball series just being the Dragon Ball series.

FantasyInvader is right about the Witcher adaptation. Probably should use that as a good example.
Ooh!
Yeah when they confess it themselves it's kind of obvious lol, but I still don't think the persons who made Dragonball Evolution really liked or wanted to adapt the DB mangas/verse - at this point imo, it's not even not being "faithful" to the source material!
Granted, the wiki said the writer apologised for the film, he wasn't a fan but thought of himself as a businessman taking an assignment?
And yet, maybe it's my french ass speaking (since DB's reception was massive here!), but 2007-9 if you told anyone you're making a Dragon Ball movie, even if you're not a fan, you'd know it exists as a manga/anime and wouldn't make a movie with Goku in a highschool with his crush Chi-Chi.
#anon#replies#media adaptations#or it's like a fanfiction? At some point the characters are so OOC that you wonder if it's a fanfic about X or just an original fiction#that borrowed names and general 'settings'#but i'm more lenient towards fanfics because it's fans doing something#not a professional person being paid for that#what kind of reasoning leads someone to read DB and go 'ok but no i'm going to make a high school AU and earn money from this'?#There is a difference imo between not being a fan and trying at least to respect and fit in the verse

I really need to dig deeper into the Dragon Ball Wiki's cited sources because if wherever they're getting that info that Bulla's a December baby on their birthdates and ages page is reputable, then that changes a whole lot of what I've been writing.
Then again, there's no specific reference note on that (or on a lot of facts on that page; some of the lacking citations business across some of these wikis makes my librarian heart cry) and they even contradict themselves later down the page that both Pan (born in May) and Bulla are both 4 at the time of the End of Z tournament in May Age 784.
So, who knows.

The most delightful and frustrating parts about this show would be how many things that people don't talk about. For my first example: the setting of a peaceful suburban bureaucratic heaven over a bottomless pit that drops into hell is a fun yet intense visual.
Toriyama is a master of visual worldbuilding. This series, alongside his other work, is chock full of whimsical vehicles, charming settings, endearingly strange animals, and perfectly over the top casualwear.
(btw, if you look like this, DM me😈🐅🤓)
I think Snake Way is the biggest disconnect between what I think the show is trying to say on its own terms and how people talk about it.
A path so long that even your incorporeal soul gets exhausted is an incredible piece of tonal imagery, and the script is quick to remind you that this is Goku's soul as opposed to his flesh and blood. After a certain point any amount of effort can be mentally or emotionally exhausting, and that's the trial of Snake Way would seem to represent. I would go as fair to say the entire concept of the soul training arc pretty much confirms what I believe to be the message of this series as I understand it: "No matter how strong your opponent is you can fight back by having a bigger heart".
This quote about power levels really demonstrates the source of my frustration with the show's reputation as a Numbers Go Up Story.
Even something as emotionally striking as a seemingly endless path towards self improvement has been literalized and measured
Growing up on a specific slice of "nerd culture internet" I can say that this kind of YouTube video genuinely set the tone and serves as a time capsule of the discussion about dragon ball as I've been aware of it. I find the screenshot declaring the iconic "Over 9000" line read "false" to be especially striking. For as much good DBZ has done for people's lives, Goku dick measuring was one of the sparks that lit the powder-keg of our current wiki brained fandom culture where every feat, piece of lore and statistic is cataloged over and above discussions of themes and artistry. Goku dragging his soul across Snake Way through burning hunger and exhaustion is a mythological labor on par with Odin sacrificing himself for knowledge, and apparently Goku flew 307,000 km when he did it.
At its best Dragon Ball is a charming science fiction fairy tale, but frothing demand for more cool fights and an impulse to measure the marigolds ultimately limited the story's potential.
I don't want to sound overly judgmental of the people who do this. I myself am fond of similar arbitrary number munching, like the iconic cover where The Hulk Stands Beneath 150 Billion Tons.
However, I believe people can miss the forest for the trees when they love something.
I'll have more to say on the disconnect between Dragon Ball as it could've been and the Dragon Ball people asked for when I eventually see the Great Saiyaman's first appearance and the point where Gohan was intended to receive the torch of protagonist.
In the meantime, if you decide to revisit Dragon Ball yourself, keep an eye out for it's silly side. Sniff the flowers, but watch out for dinosaurs.

Watching a new cartoon today. I'm pretty sure this guy's 6 foot tall chickens are what FF14 characters eat. --Olimar
