Since starting development on HABROMANIA Alice in Wonderland-related media has consumed my life completely.

I always love seeing different interpretations of the source material. The Disney Alice is the one I grew up with and was most familiar with. I have never played Alice Madness returns, but everyone keeps recommending it and it's such a cool horror-y take on the concept. I think my Alice falls somewhere in the middle of the creepiness scale - it's not as blood and guts as the Alice Game series is but it's not as goofy and bright as the Disney version. I think mine is a little more uncanny valley horror, in that same, slightly off-putting way the Over the Garden Wall series is horror. You are not a highborn lady or any type of Targaryen or Velaryon Princess, you met Aemond in the bowels of Flea Bottom at a tavern by chance, not knowing who he was. The two of you connected, talking until dawn about adventure and the history of Valyria

Aemond was charmed by your ignorance of his standing in society, reveling in the secret but simple life affair

It wasn’t two months later that you figured it out. A gold cloak addresses him by his title out in the streets in a tavern. You’re not thrilled by this revelation and in fact swear to never see him again but he’s persistent, determined to keep you

It doesn’t take long for the two of you to resume your relationship and suddenly-

You’re pregnant a year into your affair with the one-eyed prince, he was overjoyed with the news but you were scared he was going to abandon you like his elder brother had done time and time again

You call him mad and laugh, thinking it's some sort of cruel jest when he confesses his intent to marry you and make you royalty. He will not raise a bastard, he says as you kick him out of your small one room

It takes a month before you finally accept his proposal, it took sleepless nights and worried days before finally talking yourself into his idea as a good one

There are no flowers except the ones he brought you at dawn on your wedding day, it is a warm sunny morning when you both enter the sept of Baelor, a skeptical high septon, and his sworn guard

It is rushed but Aemond is determined and ready as he swears his vows and barely waits for you to finish your own before kissing you hard

You have never met a dragon before when Aemond takes you before Vhagar and tells you that you’ll be riding south for a fortnight, there is no fear that runs in your veins but excitement

You spend a sennight in Dorne, hidden away from the world, unbeknownst to the wrath awaiting you and Aemond in the Red Keep

Alicent is cold and unwilling to understand the situation. It is not easy or happy meeting for you.

After the dance of dragons, criston cole is given a choice. To be stripped of his white cloak die within the cells of the Red Keep or to be stripped of his white cloak, return to Dorne and live a quiet life out of the realms politics. Cole chooses the latter, of course. It’s far more kindly than what he assumed would be his fate.

Dorne is not what he remembers it being, it’s dry and vast with little in it’s lands. Cole doesn’t consider this desert his home.

His father was not proud of him, but he needs to still secure the house lineage and secures a marriage pact

As the youngest daughter of house Dayne, you’re not thrilled at the prospect of marrying the fool (one of many nicknames they’ve aptly named Criston in Dorne). You have only heard of the most vile and selfish stories about your now betrothed.

When you first meet Criston Cole, you’re shocked. He’s attractive, his hair has grown out to his shoulders and there’s a scar running down his neck but the weeks leading up to your meeting you had envisioned all sorts of monstrosities, considering you and the realm had decided he was a cruel inept monster

He is quiet and replies with a soft voice, you’re puzzled how the ex-Lord Commander and Hand of the King for the traitor king is gentle. However it is hard to see past what he has done to tear the realm apart

When your wedding day comes around, he replaces your cloak with a rough cloth with colourless dots adorning the back. House Cole is not wealthy and the dowry wasn’t large.

He kisses you well not really. His rough hands squeezes your own gently and barely brushing his lips to your cheek

There is no feast, just a family meal that is supplied well with meat and wine in the gardens well into the evening

The bedding is just like his kiss, hardly anything to recount to your sisters or companions. It isn’t romantic and your sure he doesn’t even finish. You hope that this isn’t what it’ll always be

Growing up alongside your future husband isn’t the norm, but you are glad for it. As many ladies are stuck with brutes and old men for husbands

Jace has matured into a handsome man that you can’t bare to look at without blushing. With every look he gives you, you can’t help but turn your head with cheeks red

But despite your embarrassment, you are both more than excited to finally be married

You opt for a traditional Valyrian wedding, the same as Rhaenyra and Daemon had done. There was no fancy ceremony with cloaks of golden threads, just Jace and you

Sleep did not come the night before, as the excitement and giddiness ran through you like shots of lightning. You couldn’t even feel the exhaustion in your muscles as you readied yourself in the robes and headpiece

Jace could not find sleep himself, as he was too excited as well at the prospect of finally calling you his

Jace’s eyes watered while waiting for you, he choked on his Valyrian as you laughed at his sweet mistake

The kiss wasn’t needy or greedy, but it wasn’t the cordial kiss of the Lords & Ladies of the Seven would display. It was tender and loving and gentle.

The feast was celebrated through the night and full of laughter. When it came to the bedding ceremony, you and Jace instead fell asleep quite quickly in your now shared bed

Fandom Bingo: Alice in Wonderland

Welcome to Wonderland Bingo! Alice in Wonderland is one of my favourite children's novels, and I also love a lot of the adaptations inspired by it, especially if it's a darker take on the story, so of course, I have to do a flash bingo for it. This time, prompts are drawn not just from Lewis Carroll's original text, but also from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and American McGee's Alice + Alice: Madness Returns.

Since we have quite a lot of prompts, I've added the option of selecting just the general source category or cherry-picking your prompts, and everyone can sign up for a maximum of four cards this round.

As always, this event is multifandom, so you are free to sign up no matter what fandom you want to write for, and you can go for a Wonderland AU or something completely unrelated, it's entirely up to you.

Based on a poll I did awhile ago, have some small little thoughts I had :) I tried to do research since I'm not very familiar with the source material but what I essentially got from it is "it's meant to be chaotic and fun" so that is what I'm working with. I apologize for inaccuracies!

The Cheshire Cat is another important role in Wonderland.

Nea is the closest one to the "Guide" role compared to most locals in Wonderland, despite what others say.

She aids "Alices" as they walk through this realm of nightmares and twisted realities.

While she may seem helpful, she's still quite mischievous.

She's independent and often deceptive.

She often watches others carefully from the trees, taking the form of a human with cat-like features such as a tail and ears.

Perhaps in this world she even has the ability to have a fully cat form.

A small purple cat with a white scarf... often following you, her newest "Alice".

Nea knows you'll be frightened in this new world but encourages you to embrace the fun!

She often keeps close, be it human or cat.

She encourages you to smile and be happy!

Why else did you come here if not to have fun!

Nea doesn't mind if her "Alice" wishes to hold her in cat form.

If it brings you comfort then she'll comply.

Yet Nea is not without her games.

She speaks in riddles and mischievous pranks.

She purrs around you and often asks if you're enjoying your time.

She doesn't understand why you'd want to leave this realm of chaos.

Ryu Number: Alice (i.e. of Wonderland)

Okay, I know what you're thinking. K.C., are you really churning out a post on Alice's Ryu Number? Sora is in Smash, for goodness' sake. That's Kingdom Hearts, which gets you the Disney version split-lickety.

Yeah, that's true. And it would be perfectly reasonable to shut the book on the matter right there and shout, "Problem solved!" But here's a question: Are Alice of Wonderland and Alice Liddell the same person?

That's a rhetorical question, by the way. If a century of Alicologists aren't going to come to an agreement, an opinion off the end of a tumblr post is unlikely to set off a scholarly paradigm shift. For what it's worth, Lewis Carroll himself seemed to consider Liddell and the literary Alice as separate individuals—the latter as more of an idealization than any real person*—but he's got some investment in the matter, so he's not exactly a reliable source.

... But we're not here for literary analysis, of course. We're here for the Ryu Numbers. So what's Alice Liddell's?

The most obvious route, of course, would be through American McGee's American McGee's Alice and Alice: Madness Returns video games. The lore of the second game straight out gives Alice the surname Liddell...

... and the opening cutscene of the first game features a photograph in Alice's bedroom of someone who might be Lewis Carroll (which is a bit weird, but whatever), as well as an Alice storybook (meaning Alice exists one narrative layer higher than the literary Alice).

Game Alice seems to have had just the one sibling, an older sister named Elizabeth, and her father's name was Arthur—the real Alice, on the other hand, had nine siblings in all (jeez), with her only older sister named Lorina and her father named Henry.

(Also all the Wonderland elements explicitly take place in Alice's head, which means technically we shouldn't be counting Wonderland characters any more than we'd count characters that show up in dreams or hallucinations, but I'll pretend not to notice if you pretend not to notice, alright? Call it the Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. precedent.)

To get to something plausibly Liddeller, I'ma jump back to the Apple II/Commodore 64 era.

I never got an answer back, probably because I couldn't find any contact info for Laurence Yep and ended up writing to the most recent publisher of his works I could find instead. What I'm saying is that I doubt Mr. Yep ever laid eyes on my letter before it was slam-dunked into the nearest wastebin (Mr. Yep if you are reading this please DM me).

Anyway, shortly before Alice falls into the rabbit hole, gets swept up in the usual Wonderland annoyances, then finally makes her way up and out the same rabbit hole (i.e. no "it was all a dream," it's happening for realsies), Alice runs into a dude on a boat. It's Lewis Carroll, and you know he's Lewis Carroll because he says he's Lewis Carroll.

Add that that he's a teller of stories to this Alice, and and it serves as good implication as any that the player character is the historical Alice Liddell.

Alicent had seen how her children had descending into despair with Nora's kidnapping, she herself struggled to remain strong for them when she thought about what her beautiful girl would be subjected to under Rhaenyra and Daemon's hands. Aemond was on edge, trying to remain the only one with a strategic mind but was slipping into madness along with Aegon. Since her father had returned to the council he had said what she knew Nora would also say- that they must not hastily rush into battle when emotions run high- it must be a strategic endeavour.

Her poor, sweet Helaena spent days sobbing, and mumbling nonsensically to herself, and Alicent had not felt this helpless since the death of her grandson. Even with Daeron's return, he himself was at odds with Otto who insisted the boy go back to the Reach, yet he insisted that he go to Dragonstone for his big sister. She couldn't let her family fall into shambles, not again. Perhaps her actions were reckless now, too, but she cared not, as the blue cloak covered her hair as she was led into the halls of Dragonstone. She'd left her dearest children sleeping in King's Landing, knowing that one of them was probably in the dungeons of this very stronghold.

It was a long shot, thinking that this would work. That Rhaenyra would believe her. But Alicent knew if she could get Nora out, and back to the capital on her dragon, that her children stood a fighting chance against Rhaenyra, Daemon and their Dragonseeds- especially if she tricked Rhaenyra into thinking that she would the given the city. After all, they had a Dragonseed of their own, did they not? Hugh Hammer resided in chambers at the Red Keep with his wife and daughter, Vermithor's new rider, a dragon which Aemond had explained to her rivalled Vhagar and Cannibal in strength.

"I did not believe it when they told me you were here." Rhaenyra's voice made her turn around. Like was funny indeed- were it months ago, she would have felt something entirely different when she heard that voice. But the loyalties of her girlhood were dead, and only a Mother's loyalties remained.

"Stranger things have happened," Alicent stepped forward. "Like you dressed as a Septa in the Sept of Baelor."

"You think highly of yourself to think that I will not have you join your daughter in the dungeons," Rhaenyra said. "She is-" "Alive? Yes, she is." Rhaenyra replied. "What do you want, Alicent?"

"I did not wish for any of this to happen," She confessed, looking at Rhaenyra. "I- I did not foresee what my children would become- Aemond is..." She hesitated, before taking a deep breath for she knew in her heart despite the words of her mouth that they reigned above everyone else in her heart. "He has become something I dare not speak...and Daenora...her hands are as bloody as her brothers." "Too much has been lost," Alicent told her. "There is little that can be done now," Rhaenyra sighed. "More must be lost before this can all be over-" "But what if...it were not so?" Alicent said. Rhaenyra raised a brow. "Tis imposible-" "Aegon still listens to me...especially with his sister gone," Alicent told her. "He heeds my voice still, I can-" "And you would expect me to let him live? And Aemond, Daeron?" Alicent's eyes closed as she spoke the words that broke her heart to say even if she did not mean them. "The lives of few....for the lives of many- tis a sacrifice we must make."

"I will ensure you are given the city with no bloodshed....if you let me take Helaena and her remaining children and flee. You will never hear of us again. But you must let Nora go, return to King's Landing." Alicent looked into Rhaenyra's eyes. Her former friend remained silent for a moment, before gesturing to the guard at the door. The stood in silence until the guard returned, and Alicent gasped softly- her girl, her beauty, her Nora, in chains, with her riding leathers torn, body bruised- blood and dirt tainted her silver hair. "Mother?" Nora's voice, though weak, still exuded a strength as she did not tremble nor hesitate, and her eyes told the same story. "Wh- what is this?"

Rhaenyra stepped forward, and said to her, "You have spent weeks in my dungeons speaking of how you shall reign down fire and blood on me, and all my children, my family- but even your own mother would hand you up to the executioner's block, in exchange for her own freedom. Even she does not believe in you anymore- she does not believe in Aegon's cause." "No," Nora shook her head. "You lie."

Rhaenyra smirked at Nora, who looked at her mother standing there, silent, not denying Rhaenyra's words.

"Mother?" Nora whispered in a small voice. Rhaenyra walked over to Alicent, and pulled her into a kiss, and though Alicent's heart no longer warmed for Rhaenyra, she kissed her anyway- Nora had to believe it was done, so that she would fight with all she had. "How could you!" Nora screamed. Rhaenyra broke this kiss, and told the guards, "Take her down to the beach and unchain her. Her dragon should be nearby. Then take her chains and place them on the Queen Dowager."

The last thing Alicent saw were the purple eyes of her daughter, brimming with tears- with hurt, betrayal, and anger.

Rhaenyra's hand moved down her back and she did not feel a thing. It seemed she had completely given her heart to her children - and found herself without upset of that thought
