i got to play a bunch of rhythm games friday and 1. i want to get one of those e-musement cards so i can Git Gud and 2. sound voltex feels very unintuitive to me. i like the sound FX elements but it's really hard to understand the hand placement intuitively. i could learn but maybe its just not my thang...

i enjoyed wacca and chunithm tho i want to wear gloves next time to reduce friction. i like games where movement is a bigger factor. but also theres so many complicated gacha type mechanics like in chunithm picking a character with abilities and shit... i dont have time for that......... also i didnt get to play maimai cuz all the pro gamers were on it.

so this is prob gonna be a new series where tl;dr i glaze the art of bemani because theyre f'ing good (sometimes, thanks konami), and also because even tho not many people care about rhythm games, at least care about the art of it lol

i would also post the artist's name, but konami stopped giving the names of their cover artists a long time ago... only the song artists are named.

to give some context of this event, its basically a mashup of two songs (or mix-up), to make a new song, in order to unlock the boss song. why? i dunno ichika wanted to get some food and somehow found herself at a mountain

i can definitely tell they were copying both of the series's artstyle (they really just used a 3d render of TRAN and pasted it in lol), its still pretty dang good. the cat ear shaped v-disk is so funny to me idk why. the song itself however is really good imo, pls give it a listen.

so we basically turned back in time and stole the artstyle of Sound Voltex Vivid Wave and GITADORA Tri-Boost Re:EVOLVE lol. i really dig it tho lol, just like song (god they went hard on the vocal chops)

Kilonova (キヤロラ衛星の軌跡 x Pursuer)

so even tho this is one of the more forgettable songs (since no one other then ddr players care about ddr), they forgot to add in pursuer to this cover art lol. i dont like this one, but oh well lol

新蛇姫 (New Decade x BREDLI)

this is one of the more creative ones lol. New Decade (fyi released in 2010) with the 2020's art style, and BREDLI's snake obsession. i also like it how it conveys the songs dont like each other so they just show the mascots getting beat the shit out of lol

Metamorphic (ロミとロボの宇宙飛行 x MONOLITH)

this is just the MONOLITH but with a cuter artstyle and added some animals to give it WoNdeR. i quite like it, shows off the two songs very nicely.

Indigo Nocturne (蒼氷のフラグメント x REcorrection)

jesus christ they represented both of the games and the songs in the best way possible. like... this is so calming, just like the genre of REcorrection, "Fluffy Pop". the song itself is such a bop too.

輪廻の鴉 (RINИE x 鴉)

the best one out of the bunch. holy shit they went fucking hard on this one. i think they know it because this song is the only one with vocals lol. like... even tho they dont really reference a lot of the two song's artworks, they really took the time and effort to reference both Pop'n Music and Beatmania IIDX in the best way possible. like tran and mimi... TRAN AND MIMI LOOK SUPER GOOD HERE LIKE THEY SHOULD BE OFFICIAL CHARACTERS YOU CAN PICK IN POP'N (ik they exist already, but like its the duo as a character, not just one of them)

BONUS EXTRA STAGE: VOLAQUAS (Valanga x 海神)

sooooo.. how do you make a boss boss song? just combine two boss songs together not that hard lol. okay but in all seriousness, combining two boss songs that you made, and then it "YOUR NAME VS YOUR NAME BUT DIFFERENT" is the biggest flex because dj totto vs totto sounds sick af. the song doesnt miss as well lol, the genre is literally "EMPYREAL HYDRO ARTCORE". i wonder why the legendary mountain is underwater in the cover art this time... /s

alright since the event happened like two years ago already (jeez its already been that long? i still remember unlocking it myself like it was yesterday)

even tho konami fucked up in 2016 and 2017 and lost most of the magic tbh, i think this is a good event nonetheless. like the collabs are insane. ill give it a 5 pepperoni pizzas / 19 grapes (mostly because the songs that are mixed up are also added to the other game as well... and thats like.. good :)

it's about time for the end of the year... been quite a long one, huh? so many achievements this year, so many new people met and interacted with, so many chokes of despair and pain in and out of rhythm games... but in retrospect, i'd say it was All Worth It:tm:!!!

but!!! to conclusively wrap things up for the year and to scratch that 2024 itch one last time, i'm having my last arcade session of the year to see just how far i've come in rhythm gaming this year (and to give some of my arcade RG ratings a slight boost for the 2024 rhythm gaming recap >:])!!! while not as long of a session as i've had before, this one's still chock full of cool stuff based on suggestions from mutuals and friends on Twitter Dot Com !!!

warming up with the usual IIDX finger-training warmup, we have six banger scores over the course of two sets (with a tragic fail prematurely ending the second set), all AA and above... starting with my warmup song suggestion from twitter, an AA (AAA-24) on Speculation [SPH-9], followed by a bit of World Tourism grinding with an AAA on Rock It [SPH-8], and then with the REAL SCORES beginning from here on out!!! an INSANE AA UPSCORE on 199024club -Re:BounceKiller- [SPH-10], then ANOTHER AA UPSCORE on COSMIC V3LOCITY [SPH-10] (just ignore the assist-easy clear on it www), and then wrapping up the session for now with two incredible scores on two incredible songs for my second incredible set... a re-AA upscore on Y&Co. is dead or alive [SPH-9], and an all-new awesome AA on Dazzlin' Darlin [SPA-10]!!!!

and now, for some VOLTEX GAMING!!! this one's a mix of suggestions from my friend, as well as some random songs which i thought would bump my rating up a little as well... so as you can see below, MANY volforce upscores and many upscores (or generally just new scores) along the way!! we got some volforce from Sakazuki [EXH-17], nothing from Got more raves ? [EXH-17], and then some more volforce from a sightread AAA on Little princess has no identity. [EXH-17]... as well as even more volforce from a massive upscore on waxing and wanding [MXM-18]!!! ...oh, and the other scores? these are ALSO from a friend's suggestion, the song title being a somewhat confusing one for me at the time but the "Arr.Demetori" making it an easy search . i had no idea what i was getting into with this chart, and it honestly didn't seem all that bad when i was first playing...? but then came the crosshands and one-hands... and no matter how hard i tried to recall just before the patterns, i'd always end up choking them . so i tried and tried again, always messing up and not having enough excessive gauge to finish off the chart, but at the very end of a set where i played nothing but the song, i did it...! an AAA (just below AAA+ damnit) and Excessive Clear on Shinkou wa hakanaki ningen no tame ni ~ Arr.Demetori [EXH-17]!!!!

and now, for the moment you've allll been waiting for... DDR TIME!!! i was sorta avoiding DDR because the machines seemed crowded and the lines a bit too long, but i think it freed up enough at some point to play on rotation, and so i hopped in line and played a mix of suggestions and just stuff that sounded pretty good!!! very good choice, because as a result, i got Kill The Night [ESP-14] as 14 PFC #22!!! ...and some other cool scores ig,... hgjmsdmfdshj

GITADORA BREAK!!!! got yet another song suggestion for this game, but i also just wanted to jam out to some drumming tunes and this game was by far the best one to do just that :] well hey, i got my highest level clear(? is the 5.55 Advanced of Oh my! Lovely! Sweety! Darling! the highest? i don't remember...) out of it, so it all worked out in the end!!! other scores include getting a slight S-rank upscore on Pop music ron [ADV 4.60], a sightread A on Itte. (EXT 4.55, the aforementioned suggested song), and a sightread clear on Niji no saki ni nani ga aru ka [ADV 5.30]!!!

one last non-DDR intermission: a smaller series of Arcaea scores i got while waiting in line for my turn on the cab!!! now, given i'm just playing with thumbs on my lap and have no audio to work with, you'd think i'd be flopping and getting terrible scores the whole way through, right? WRONG!!! completely unbeknownst to me, these scores would be the best non-PM scores i'd had in a while... as i ended up getting a MASSIVE 991 -> 998 FULL RECALL upscore on La'qryma of the Wasteland [BYD-10], as well as... FINALLY GETTING AN EX+ ON WORLD ENDER [BYD-11]!!!! WE OUT HEREEEE

BACK TO DDR!!! by this point, i thought i was almost completely out of steam (fueled more by this somewhat poor score on AI [ESP-16] , but i think i just needed to wake myself up a little... because shortly after, it was all PFCs and all upscores!!! a re-PFC on Dance and Death (ESP-13, 49p -> 35p), a NEW ALSO-39p PFC on Kyuukurarin [ESP-13], and then an INSANE re-PFC upscore on Setsujou danka (ESP-15, 64p -> 40p) to wrap the whole set up???

quick move over to StepManiaX as i still had a few other song suggestions left in order to finally wrap things up across each game... i had a somewhat rough start as my legs were Still kinda feeling weak after DDR, but i persisted and was rewarded handsomely for said persistence!!! a 94.8k FC on The Saint Goes Marching (Helix Remix 2020 Edit) [WILD 21], an even cooler 95.2k clear on Gargoyle [WILD 24], and a best-of-all 96.9k FC on Xuxa [WILD 23]!!! ...unfortunately, however, it seems i hit the image limit with this last section, and thus i'll have to continue this in another post... but it won't be as long thankfully!!! just a few more SMX and SDVX scores, then a lot more sweet Arcaea achievements!!!

Phigros was a good game until they started locking whole chapters behind requiring high scores in hard songs. Mobile rhythm games everyone's playing on wildly different devices. Like yeah, if I had an ipad with a bigger screen and able to play with all my fingers instead of just my thumbs, I could get those scores. But I'm not. Like locking songs behind high scores is so stupid. An 850k should be more than high enough a score if you're gonna do that shit. Not whatever moronic high score they actually require. And then it's a fully f2p so I can't even buy that shit. It's pretty crappy tbh.
